He confirmed that he indeed will be on tour with Stevie this summer! For some reason, when I first read that, I thought that you said you got a call from Don Henley confirming the tour. I was gonna say, "Um, April Fool's is over." Anyway, this is disappointing because I want to see Stevie solo and I couldn't care less about him. :(

Why aren't you?

can't really say? when i found out that FM were doing the september shows, i nearly choked on a sandwich (in a good way) and that's just not the case...

maybe it's because i know that the tix prices will be outrageous? maybe it's because i know that i'll vomit in my mouth when he mumbles 'dirty laundry'? maybe it's because i know that i'm not going to get (what i consider to be) the full stevie concert experience?

i'll go anyways, i'll go to any/all shows within reasonable driving distance...
i also know that i won't be paying hundreds upon hundreds of dollars for my seat...

Thanks, for the info. I wonder when we will get dates and venue info. I have a feeling that it won't be a long tour if he is going to be back with The Eagles in August.

I know - but it pretty much guaranteed they will come here to Atlanta as we have a variety of different size arenas and are a major market. But, I have to say, I do not plan to travel for this one. I mean China and Vegas have put a dent in the checking account already

I wish that we had a little more info on this tour before I can decide if I want to see a show or not. I am not going to travel at all for this bill but I still wish that we knew more. I only want to go IF they play Providence but I doubt that. I am NOT going to travel to even Boston to see them.

I like Don Henley but I would rather see The Eagles and after seeing all of those Mac shows I have to say that this bill just seems kind of dull. I am sort of disappointed about this but maybe Stevie will even tour with The Mac.

I am kind of wanting to see Joe Walsh solo this summer but I bet that he won't even come close to the east coast.

Of course it is Lindsey that I want to see solo, too. :blob2:

Boy, I really wish we had some INKLING of what her show will be like. Just a TINY clue would do!!

First of all, we need another box set release like Enchanted only with more unreleased demos, outtakes, rareities and B sides. Then at the shows she could do a few standards, a lot of ones she hasn't done it a long time and a few never heard before. Sound good?

I would go to one or two of those kinda shows, even if she doesn't get to be on stage for 2 hours.

Agreed on the Dirty Laundry thing.... GAG!!! (where's the puking green smiley when you need it?)

I'm on the same page as everyone else here. I'm having mixed feelings and even if I don't go to one of these shows then the fact that I will have just seen her in Vegas certainly softens the blow. I just think the whole thing sound uncomfortable. During Don's stuff all us Stevie fans will be miserable and during Stevie's stuff all of Don's fans will be in distress! I am confident she will also be doing some solo shows after this little tour with Don. I will go to as many of those as possible.

I am also fairly confident the songs she will be doing in Vegas will be a similar setlist to the songs she will be doing on tour with Don. So, the fact that I am going to Vegas makes me not crave this Don/Stevie tour as much.

You know what? I'll just take anything I can get. I'll be wanting to stick knitting needles in my eyes 'round about the time you all resurface with your Vegas reviews. So if I need to endure a little Don to get a lot of Stevie... I'm so there. My bet is on a mini-tour, too - maybe the month of July (which I've conveniently asked for off from work). The ticket prices will indeed be outrageous, but her touring years are fast fading... I'm not about to miss this...

but her touring years are fast fading...

That is a sad thought.

Can everyone stop saying this please! She has shown no signs of slowing down. She has been involved in touring at least every other year since the Dance so why is everyone acting like she is going to be in a nursing home soon? She is just in her mid fifties for crying out loud. And 50 is the new 40, so let's look at it that way! If she was a man no one would be saying this. No one is saying it about Lindsey and just how old are the Rolling Stones anyway? I'm just saying that being in your 50s does not automatically mean that your living on borrowed time.

I would assume (and of course, I could be wrong) that since it's his song, he probably owns the rights to it and he would have to be given compensation for allowing someone else to re-record his song much like Stevie made a lot of money from The Dixie Chicks version of Landslide. It's a cash grab...much like IMO, this tour will be.

That's one of the thoughts that popped in my head and made me decide for the Vegas option. Also, I'm long overdue for a regular vacation, haven't been to Vegas in longer than most of you are old and I missed the 2nd leg of SYW so never got to see Sara live. Vegas seemed a perfect fit. I may still go to a Don/Stevie show and get cheap seats again, or not. I've been a front-row fiend for so many years, the clamoring gets old... Cash grab is right.

I am hitting one show...and not travelling to do it.

I am curious why you guys think that Stevie will pick up and tour solo after this Don gig ends this summer? I dont see that happening at all..
It appears there other reasons behind this joint venture than the "love of touring". Like it or not. I agree her touring years are fading..I believe she has admitted that when talking about how good the Vegas residency looked to her.

Of course Don had to ok Lisa Marie using his song and he will make money from it. The kids on AI can't chose any song they want...they have to have authorization from the artist who wrote/recorded it before using it. Do you honestly think the Chicks just picked up Landslide and rerecorded it without authorization from the owner?

I think it's actually the publishing company that administers the rights for people or artists to use the material - these are the people they approach when they want to record something - they represent the artist by licensing their music and they keep track of it's use, keeping a portion of the proceeds for themselves of course and paying the artist a royalty. I'm sure Don knew about it, but whether or not he can vito someone using a song, I don't know....

Um, because she's in her mid-50s, and time doesn't stand still, my friend. It's not a slag at Stevie, or Lindsey, or the Rolling Stones. They're just plain growing more mature, man, as we all are. Stevie may be doing Vegas, she may well be doing a joint venture with Don, she may well go solo after that and even do another FM album and tour. But do I think there are years and years more that we will be seeing her hitting the stage? No, I don't. I think we'll have this summer, and maaaaaybe a FM tour next summer/fall. I still maintain that at the time she said that she meant to do it - but she got sick and had to extend the Amercian leg for make up dates (which included new dates), 9/11 happened, and FM needed her too badly. But, I think she was genuine in her statement that she planned to go. I think it just did not work out - and sadly so IMO.

Wow..interesting. I just watched those kids on AI discussing their song choices and they said they couldnt do whatever they wanted without the artist authorization. If Stevie owns the copyright on the words, I just don't see how someone can use them without her consent but maybe I am way wrong.

I heard Stevie say she needed a drummer until the end of the year but nothing about "touring" until the end of the year, unless I missed it. I thought the "needing a drummer" could be the Vegas thing too. I heard that was a semi permanent replacement type gig for when Celine and Elton are away. I really cannot see her touring with Don and then embarking on a solo thing but if ya'll see that happening..more power to ya. I would rather have her alone anyway.

How it works is as the owner of the song(s) you sign over your copyright to the publisher (bmi, ascap etc), who are responsible for tracking and administering the songs use and paying you your royalties, based on radio play, use in commercials, played in shopping malls... anywhere where there is an audience. The publisher collects the rate - keeps half the proceeds and the other half is given to the artist as royalties. The rate per song on an album used to be 7.5 cents per song, but it's probably around 8 cents per song now, and each time one of your cds is manufactured you are paid that 7-8 cents per song if you are the copyright holder - this is paid to your publisher by the record company... and again they keep half (for tracking and collecting) and you get the other half. Those are some basics.

I'm sure the artist has to give permission along with the publisher, like a partnership.

glitter_fades

I'm sure the artist has to give permission along with the publisher, like a partnership.

I don't think that's entirely true. The copyright holder gets paid when somebody uses a song, but depending on how the publishing rights were obtained, I don't think permission has to be granted by a songwriter for someone to use their song. If a songwriter sells the publishing rights to their work they often lose control of the work. I thought.

When MJ bought the Beatles catalog I don't think PM was too pleased that "Revolution" was being used to sell sneakers.
He obviously had no say in the matter.

Well, I for one am just glad to get anything out of the woman whether it be with Don or not. And the whole thing about this being a cash grab well maybe so but Stevie made what 20-30 million last year for singing songs around the world. Hello!!! Can someone sign me up for that???
If anyone hasn't noticed most entertaiment is a cash grab.
So even if the majority of us think Don is a prick, I'm not going for him I'm going to support Stevie. And has anyone thought that since Don goes back with the Eagles in August (or September, whichever) that Stevie might tour with him for June and July then come back through without him, since she said she would "need a drummer through the end of the year". But hey if some of you don't want to go, less competion for tickets for the people that want to go.

Can someone direct me to the quote or interview where Stevie says she is touring until the end of the year? Perhaps she will tour with Don for June and July, he will go do California with the Eagles in August and then he will team back up with Stevie? Perhaps she means she is doing more Vegas gigs? (I was told she has signed for a semi permanent engagement there by several people, not including the May shows, lastly Caesars when I called about tickets) Perhaps she has some benefits or private shows scheduled throughout the fall where she will need a band? I just do not remember her saying or implying she was touring as a solo act after this Don gig. I would much rather have that cause I cannot stand his music or his stage presense but..I am not buying it completely until I hear it from her. Did I miss this?
As for tickets...you are going to be completing with Eagles fans for these seats and Don's tickets are usually expensive. I doubt there will be more available seats do to the lack of love from 'some' Stevie fans. More difficulty in getting good seats, more money for the seat and less Stevie.

Thanks for the info about publishing rights..it is fascinating. When you say MJ bought the Beatles catalog therefore McCartney lost his rights...did Stevie sell her catalog? Or does she lose some of those rights when she signs publishing over to Sony/BMi as Macman described?
It seems so odd that her intellectual property can just be used ....I remember that guy who has "Let's get ready to rumble" being really ticked and suing someone who tried to use something on a show that was similar. I guess that is different somehow than songs. I would love for someone to explain the part of DR when Lindsey is talking about being paid for the songs. I was left very confused when he said he would only be paid for two or three songs...who decides which songs they are going to pay for?

Totally. Last time Don did solo dates he was selling 12-1500 seats a night in venues that held 25-3000. Not exactly a hot seller.

Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to come to see them this summer (damn work, hope there would be soon another chance ) but the sensation is that Joseph K got a better treatment than Stevie deciding to take part to this tour. The positive (?) effect of this trial is that I feel the urge to listen more Don Henley's music :D . What albums should I get?

\Stevie made what 20-30 million last year for singing songs around the world.

Maybe in pesos. That tour last year, if my memory serves me correctly, grossed about 25 million. GROSSED. Minus 10% for management, minus 10% for agents and lawyers. Minus about 30% for operating expenses. That's 12.5 million. Split that by four. She made 3 if she's lucky. Nothing to sneeze at, but it ain't retirement money.

Who knows, maybe they'll just share the stage for three hours. Much the same way Sheryl did with Stevie on TISL. Of course Don would play a larger role. I could see them dueting on a few numbers(DESPERADO!) and each one doing solo sets throughout the show. Stevie could even slip into the backup singer role on a few of Don's numbers and vice versa, of course. If the price isn't too high, I may have to check it out. I never tire of seeing Stevie on stage. And don't forget, YOU'RE NEVER TOO OLD TO ROCK AND ROLL! :]

Yeah, but the royalties from Rumours sure are. This is what I've never quite understood. They are set. All five of them - and the songwriters more than John and Mick. Just on Rumours alone, these five would never have to work again. They've said as much (either Lindsey or Stevie at one point referred to it as "their pension"). Add on the White album, and Tusk, and yes, even their respective solo albums, etc. etc. Well, you get my point. Is it really sheer greed driving them? Seeing Mick do the wine and all the other foolishness, yes, I say, for him it is. I think he has been up front about squandering his money away. But Stevie owns property (I know we've had this debate, but I'm quite sure she owns the house in Phoenix and one in LA. Let's not have this debate again - it's not the point). I don't think she needs another several million. The point I'm trying to make is... I'm not sure I really think she's doing it strictly for the money. Perhaps I wear rose coloured glasses. But she is not young; her body hurts - she has said as much. Going out and singing night after night is not an easy thing - at any age. I think that just maybe she is doing this (performing with Fleetwood Mac, performing with Don) because A) she loves performing, B) she loves Fleetwood Mac, and C) she wants to get out on the road with Don one last time because she knows it will be the last chance they will ever have to do this, and after all these years, it seems the right thing to do. I just don't believe that for someone like Stevie, for whom songwriting and performing has always been a passion, that she would end her career doing it only for the sheer goal of making money. I just don't buy it.

I hear ya girl. And I have this vision in my head of Stevie going a little crazy on "Boys Of Summer"! Let's hope they do "share" the stage. I know Stevie made mention that when she "toured" with Sheryl they didn't want to have to worry about who was headlining, so they just came out together. I hope this is what happens with Stevie and Don. It'd be a million times better than each one just doing a solo set.

I have to say I agree with you. I mean what person alive does not do things for money - In fact, I know of no one who does not want to get paid the most they can for their work and certainly no one who works for free outside of some one off pro bono thing  So, I say as long as the demand is there and she enjoys what she does - why not tour even though personally I would like another solo record.

To me, that she can do what she apparently loves to do and get paid for it is a boon  Also, she loves Henley a great deal and apparently respects his work, which is a considerable volume. I tend to think people (certainly not all) have more of an issue with Henley himself and all of their past - than with the general idea of a double bill. I mean if La Nicks went on the road with Petty, as has been mentioned, I think people would perhaps see this as a better thing.

In the end, I will see the concert if it comes here and do not view this as selling out. and that is my $0.02 for anyone who cares :p

Well that's pretty much what everyone is taught and brought up to believe that we need to make the most... It's the carrot everyone is after [for the most part].

But frankly... I don't think it always IS about money... I mean the older you get, you realize that money isn't the be all end all and you do get to a certain point where you know what is enough for yourself... She doesn't seem to live too extravagently unless she's supporting her whole damn family, who knows.

I think alot of why she's out there is that's what she does... that's what she's always done, and will continue to do as long as she can. It's probably alot easier at this point in the game to get out on the road and have fun, then to deal with a record company about putting out new material especially when they are so bottom line driven and she's not at the top any longer when it comes to record sales... And I'm sure her ego or what ever insecurities she has demand she be loved... so she get's back out on the road... In front of loving fans...

Now if she's supporting the whole damn family... maybe that's her sole motivation...lol

Wow... you bring up a good point... and to expound on that... girlfriend seems to be in fence mending mode and has been for the last several years. Maybe Don is a fence that she felt needed a little more mending and what better way for a performing musician to do that than go on tour together? It wasn't that long ago he was at AHI, maybe that's where the idea was hatched. hmmmm... :p

I think with the advent of net jets and the sort she probably does. But, she may fly commercial. Also, she could have use of the Warner planes

Interestingly, though all the jets and suites appear extravagant, to someone with her income, it is probably not that huge of an expense. I mean if she makes 6 million a year, that is 100 times a person making $60,000 a year and 50 times that if she makes only 3 million a year. So, in an economy of scale, that is not that huge of a financial burden, etc.

Hi,

I think Stevie is doing this tour because she loves to perform, probably has been itching to do some solo performing and not have Lindsey jumping all over her and getting her black dress all gross, and knows that she is getting older and who knows how much longer she can endure a tour.

The joint tour makes sense. It is how things are done these days. They put bands together to increase the chances of selling lots of tickets. Stevie and Don are a good match. Their music likely appeals to many of the same people, and they have duets from the past that they can perform together. At least it's not a stupid match like Def Leppard and Bryan Adams or whatever the pairing is.

I see it as another gift from Stevie. Of course I'd love to have a club or small theater tour, but I've come to accept that is not going to happen. Business is business.

All that said, I won't be going to any of the shows. The LV show scratches my Stevie itch. But the tour allows those who aren't able to get to Vegas a chance to enjoy her this summer. It's not perfect, but it sure beats a retired Stephanie Nicks.

I like Don Henley, but he should really stop all this touring and actually release an album. However, I don't think I'll be going to this outing- if it actually happens at all.

I don't think either Don or Stevie will get more than 75 minutes tops for each of their sets. Which to me equals.....

Nicks Shedding Gypsy Ways
by Shawn Sell

COLUMBIA, Md. - Like a 70’s flashback, Stevie Nicks is on stage again.

But behind her dated Dickensian, style - she loves those platform boots and fringed shawls so much she grocery shops in them - is a 46-year-old woman making some 90’s changes.

Such as taking a bus on her current Street Angel tour instead of a private jet. "It's cost-cutting," admits rock'n'roll's gypsy princess. "A difference between $700 a day or $5,000 a day."

She stopped smoking "December 12" she says, and her voice has never been in better shape.

And she left her rented home outside L.A. after the last big quake. "I found a house I really want, a very special house in Phoenix," confides the former Fleetwood Mac lead singer. "But my mom says I have to pare down - she says right now I couldn't even qualify for the mortgage."

Love how she says she can't even handle a dog right now. Lots has changed in 10 years, huh?

Well I would be VERY surprised if there was no fan greeting on the tour...She never really greets the fans on Fleetwood Mac tours, she didnt get down to the audience on the Dance tour either...keeps it as a solo thing...so, being tradition and all if she CAN at all she would need to get down there..cuz ppl will be expecting it, and a wave just wont do justice lol...

Also to add I'm sure Stevie DOES take a private jet wherever she goes...Like Strand said with a person of her income it's not that much of an expense...she should actually consider buying one...my aunt has a small learjet (15 passengers or so) and doesnt make quite as much as Stevie...
Just seems like it would be cheaper to own a small one or something..
I really cannot see Stevie going to the airport, going through security, getting on the plane, waiting for her luggage at baggage..lol just doesnt seem possible

In a later entry in Stevie's 9/11 journal at the Nicksfix she talks about flying to New York and back a few times, her first time flying commercial since the attacks. I think she only rents out a jet for her tours, when she needs to fly out of the city right after the gig, the "midnight plane".

LOL - I cannot either. But and having said that, I have seen many celebs in the Atlanta Customs barn at Hartsfield. One time her highness Dolly Parton was standing in front of me. I mean DIRECTLY in front of me with her husband. She was dolled up to the nines and just chattin' away with people. I LOVE her.

I ****ing LOVE Dolly Parton. :woohoo:

If I could meet any celebrity, it would be her. She's such a sweet girl with a huge personality. Oh, I adore her. Remember when Vanity Fair wanted to use her for a cover story on natural beauties and she sent them a letter saying "Honey, you think I look like this naturally?"
