Hayley, this birdy & earthquake story is for you ... plus it's for all you skeptics out there.
BIRDY PREDICTS QUAKE & THE POPE SURFS OUT.
And now A birdy story --
The wild Birdy doesn't just cough up information. One needs wait until Birdy feels like it. When he feels like it is an indicator of the passing wave's characteristic either leaving or approaching.
I woke two days ago to bird song & thought of a main Birdy left back in town when I moved.
He joined the birdy breakfast club as an accepted outsider. He was injured with a sore leg & stayed behind after the flock talk whistled, tanked up on grits and dog food, then uplifted flew off on the day's business.
The injured birdy stayed behind & sat on the garage eave for the day, bent over in a crouch, fluffed up and as he healed he began to fly off after an hour or two. Nutrition goes far in healing wild birds.
I empathized with his leg problem greeting him by raising my forearm, opening my palm to him & spreading my fingers closing my hand into a fist.
He's a speaker bird but with the injury not in the mood for conversation. He spoke whistled in grackle morse communication several times after listening to the grackle winter breakfast club for a month & twice after I gave the opening hand greeting.
I thought about him before I rose then broke my schedule with a ride into town. On the way, I stopped to spread grits at a new feeding station, a parking island under a mangrove tree at the local shopping center. The grackles are mating. Well fed mating grackles are gliding posturing black velvet kites -- male grackles fly to mate while the females mate with any bird that flies along -- social structure.
Within the tree perched a perfectly preened speaker Birdy, positioned smack dab over the feeding island.
He whistled greetings, a full sentence of 3 longs one short, three shorts one long, & two longs: MORNING-HUNGRY-EAT!
He bill wiped on the branch, grinned at me & raised his foot. He waved it at me!!!
