Round 2 saw some BIGTIME match-ups that were literally back and forth all the way up until the end. A lot of favorites fell (at least mine...) but so be it. Here are the results...

So we saw Lindsey/Stevie trade off some big hits. SHN takes down Rhiannon and IKINW defeats Silver Springs but SOTM takes down Tusk. Landslide is, for me, the best song on the White Album, in fact I'd go as far to say it's one of the group's best ever songs.
GDW is good (esp the end) but it's not half as powerful as Landslide. That is beautiful in its simplicity. If only Stevie wrote more tunes like that - I never tire of it.

I agree with you, Sharon. Other than that, though, I believe dissention's predictions are dead-on.

I think people are just sick of it. I am, a bit, at least. But I think GDW is a very good song, the mood of the vocal strikes me more. Plus, there is yowling at the end.... :p

Used to love Landslide, but I got tired of it.
Maybe the final drop was when I heard my neighbours playing it, who usually play either loud bonking housemusic or some super commercial hitparadestuff.
(I don't mind either if I'm in the right mood for it, but not coming distorted through the walls, please.)

I do love the atmosphere and the venom in GDW but Landslide is just so moving. Even the lamest cover versions of that song still seem to retain something of its power. I think the lyric is a lot more universal too.
I can understand people tiring of it but there's something about it that remains magical to me.
I agree. Landslide is defiinitely a diamond. It really is a small masterpiece. Lyrically, heads and shoulders above most of her songs, if not all (I enjoy Dreams lyrically quite a bit). I just don't always love listening to it as much. :shrug: they're all hard choices, for me. :)

Ah, but Gerald, I started by hating the song during my younger days of listening to alternative rock noise. However these days I'm heavily biased when it comes to "Little Lies". The vocal melody is reminiscent of a traditional Finnish schlager, that's one of the reasons. Another reason, of course, is that it's the only song by the Rumours line-up that the radio stations here in Finland play.

But I think it's a bloody brilliant piece of arranging too, the gentle guitar in the verses, the faux-Asian passages, the jarring synth chord when the chorus begins, the way Stevie's warm vocal contrasts with Lindsey's intentionally robotic "tell me tell me lies", those rising "mmm-mmm-mmms" from Lindsey at the end of chorus, etc. And just like with Go Insane, you can't really tell for sure which parts are played by a guitar and which parts by a synthesizer.

I wouldn't call if unfair....just a way to express my shock that so many people prefer GYOW to GDW. Rather, a way to state that GYOW was winning against it. As in I said I thought it was one of the best songs ever, and a lot of people don't agree considering they voted for the other.
