Love to play porn star
http://www.news24.com/News24/Backpage/HotGossip/0,,2-1343-1344_1682166,00.html
Los Angeles - Courtney Love has agreed to play Linda Lovelace in an upcoming biopic of the infamous 70s porn star.
According to Variety the movie, called Lovelace, will be made by Jason Blum's Blumhouse Production company with Merritt Johnson as scriptwriter.
Lovelace, real name Linda Boreman, became a cult figure after starring in the 1972 porn movie Deep Throat which despite being banned in 23 US states went on to gross an estimated $600m.
The New York-born housewife, who claimed she was never paid for Deep Throat, later became a leading spokesperson for America's feminist movement and an anti-porn campaigner.
She died aged 53 in April 2002 after being injured in a car crash.
Love, 40, won acclaim for her role as porn publisher Larry Flynt's wife, Althea, in 1996's The People vs Larry Flynt.
I smell an Oscar nod. Hollywood loves that comeback ****.

For a pornstar role? In the year post Terri Schiavo and Pope's agony? They wouldn't have the courage. Even if I think that Courtney Love can be a great actress and deserved an Oscar for The people vs Larry Flint and did a wonderful job in Man On The Moon.

Of course they would. The Schiavo bull**** didn't stop them from heaping the awards on Million Dollar Baby. If Courtney pulls it off, which she probably will because she's a talented actress, they'll nominate her just for the story alone; they *love* that kind of ****.

As will the felonious La Ryder playing a loon in "Girl Interrupted" - one must wonder how much acting is involved with Love playing a drugged out slut or just a slut
I do like her though and hopr she is well and that this seemingly interesting comeback vehicle works for her.

Actually I agree with you. I thought it was okay at first but I have it on my iPod and everytime I have it on shuffle and one of the America's Sweetheart tracks comes on I almost break the damn thing trying to skip to the next track. But the artwork is fab, you must admit.
The artwork is great. But the singing and lyrics are atrocious.
I can't remember who attacked me for saying I liked Courtney, but they were all saying she's evil, a sociopath, she killed Kurt, blah, blah, blah - stuff like that.
I think she is completely nuts and at times a complete train wreck but she certainly makes the world a more interesting place.
All those conspiracy theories about her killing Cobain crack me up, they're so ludicrous. But to each his own, I suppose.
She's a total train wreck, but she's fascinating, she's got balls, and she has more personality than most celebs I can think of.

I think this is when she hit bottom, at least that particular bottom. No pun intended. The appearance was tragic but it was also very funny. Courtney managed to get the attention she was looking for and Madonna got to be the "better" star. MTV got a story. Everybody plays, everybody wins.

I remember reading an article about her trying to stay sober and she was walking around backstage at an awards show very quietly and keeping to herself instead of running around and acting like her usual self. It said that just drank soda and kept rebuffing everyone who offered her booze, and that she was getting annoyed with Anna Nicole for bugging her about partying with her that night. It toally didn't sound like the Courtney Love we know and adore.

Here is Courtney as "The Starlet" made up by Kevyn. Also, below I'm transcribing her words at the end of his book, "Making Faces" in 1997.
I was so excited to be involved with Kevyn in this book. I used to read about him with fascination and the first time I felt his hands on my face I remember feeling total trust. Kevyn is the first makeup "artist" I have ever known; by artist I mean purely involved with transformation that is genderless and boundless. He knows the art of transformation, whether it's anarchy or high glamour or mixing blackberries into Vaseline.
When Kevyn made me up for the Golden Globes, I remember looking into the mirror and starting to cry. I had never before seen myself the way he saw me and his hands made me. It was overwhelming and far deeper than I can articulate.
Makeup is deception. Makeup is intellectual. Makeup is probably one of my favorite things in its ability to communicate all of the archetypes of a woman. Makeup is a grand luxury; not an imperative. Kevyn breaks every makeup "rule" because he is an artist and like any master he knows the crazed masonic secrets whispered throughout movie studios and by Avon ladies in small towns for decades. To this secret woman's knowledge he brings his own genius.
The origin of the word "glamour" is the verb "to cast a spell", and for Kevyn I can only think of my favorite quote from Emily Dickinson:
Then Sunrise kissed my Chrysalis -
And I stood up - and lived -

I kid you not. He bought the rights to her book "Ordeal" years and years ago and has been trying to get it off the ground with Brian Grazer. Meg Ryan signed on a few years ago in an attempt to give her career a charge, but they couldn't get the right script, so it was canned. Then Angelina Jolie wanted to do it, but couldn't fit it into her schedule. Howard and Grazer eventually just made a documentary about Deep Throat that came out last month.

You know, the Lovelace Deepthroat debacle is very interesting to investigate. Apparently there's lots of mystery surrounding the whole thing like the mob ties, whether or not Lovelace was forced at gunpoint to "perform" in it by her loser boyfriend, how she got hoodwinked by him to appear in stag films and prostitution, her real stance on porn: was she really taking up the feminist anti-porn movement or was she just apologetic for ever having done it etc...fascinating indeed. A friend of mine who is a grad student in American Studies is doing her dissertation on Linda Lovelace, Deepthroat and American porn. Apparently she just recently interviewed people associated with the movie and I believe people who were close to Lovelace, perhaps family members. I can't wait to hear what she's found out.

It wasn't what I expected at all. Pretty much just a documentary on how if affected pop culture and American society in general. They essentially glossed over every one of Lovelace's claims, which made it pretty dull. It wasn't nearly as good as it could have been, but it had some interesting moments. Wait for DVD is my recommendation.

There's no question in my mind that was abused, but one has to wonder about the extent of it when you read her first book (I didn't know what to make of her beastiality claims when I wrote my paper, to be honest). She supposedly passed tens of hours of lie detector tests before the publishers would print her book, too. I'm likely to believe her because as soon as she left Traynor, she didn't do anything that had to do with porn. I did, however, come to the conclusion that she was used and abused by the womens movement just as she had been by the porn industry. They used her up when they needed her and then threw her out like garbage. She led a truly sad life.
