I have fallen in love with this song all over again lately and I thought it would be nice to get off Vegas for a bit so I wondered...what's your favorite version of BATB and why?

Mine has got to be Austin 1983.

By the way, has anyone got the Nightbird and Stand Back performances on SNL in mp3 they can shoot my way? Thanks.

My favorite is the performance from Oakland, CA., on October 4th, 1983... it's sheer perfection musically, vocally (though I believe some of the vocals were overdubbed for the radio broadcast), and emotionally.

I still am a sucker for the studio version. I tend to be a person that favors live music, but all the strings and such......wow... putting the "false pleasures and pain" line back in the mix is chillingly haunting.
I put second the "talking" version with Stevie talking it up with Tom Petty. The discussion about the movie, the evolution of the melody, the entire creative process lets you see a bit of what lies behind those eyes. if only more such recordings were found.

My favorite is also the 1983 Oakland version since I was at that show...at the age of 14. Stevie came on stage extremely late that night, around 11 pm, I wonder what she was doing :D

I missed 1/2 the show because I had to leave around 11:45 to be picked up by my parents. But I did get to hear BATB.

Maybe if she hadn't taken so long to tell the rambling story before the song (I um, just want to take a few minutes to, um, talk about this song....) I could have heard a few more songs before running out to catch my ride. :]

my fave was circulated on the 'piano demos' disc, very simple with a dash of synthesized orchestral backing. vocals are very pure, not quite as quivertastic as the album version.

I love the Red Rocks version as well. It's something about the "if you know tell her, tell her now" part that I love.

I also love versions where she says "and sometime she says, ahhhh" with Sharon on harmony...it gives me chills.

I love the Red Rocks version, too. I really love this song, actually. One of my favorite versions is from a master reel (hell if I know which one...I have it on the end of a Sleeping Angel master). It's a softer, simpler take...beautiful.

I'm feelin' the love for Red Rocks, especially that part where she starts to get all choked up near the end. I'm such a suck for that sort of thing.

I don't really like BATB so I don't have a favorite version. I'll listen to a certain version maybe once but that's about it.

This song can bring me to tears, literally. Not really the lyrics (which I don't think are bad or anything) more the music itself & the vocals.

I am really hoping she does this one in Vegas, since it hasn't been done in a while.

Definitely the album version. I haven't heard many live performances, and the ones I have heard weren't that great. And I have yet to see Red Rocks :distress: .

Anyway, the song is one of Stevie's most beautiful vocals IMO.

I believe that B&B willl make a comeback in Vegas. She hasn't played it since Timespace Tour in 1991 I think.

Can I get some Red Rocks love in here?

Ditto

Yeah the Red Rocks is the best, I like the part where she says "My darling lives in a world that is not mine, and it never was" the latter part sort of ad libbed and I love the footage of her and Mick in black and white.

I love the version on the Sleeping Angel Masters, but I have a soft spot for Red Rocks 2, the emotion behind it is just amazing

This is one of my alltime favorite songs of hers and unbelievably, I've never heard a version other than the studio one.
