I mean, what's your living situation? House? Apartment? Alone? Roommate? S/O? Pets? City? Burbs?
I live in a 3 bedroom cape cod style house with hubby, 2 cats & dog in the burbs. Typical post-WWII house, around 1000 sq. feet. We bought it about 4&1/2 years ago & will be putting an addition on in a few weeks to add a second full bath & make my bedroom bigger w/ a walk-in closet. :blob2:
We have a decent size yard & a 2 car garage. If we ever move, I will never go without a garage. Ever. Not having to clean the car off every morning is wonderful.
How about you? :wavey:

We have a ten room, 2 & 1/2 bath raised ranch. Four bedrooms. Two kitchens. 3 living rooms. 2 Car garage. It's grey with blue shutters  I live with my sister, parents, and dog. We have neighbors that are all older than 50 and never leave their homes except to work. And we live in Milford, CT. It's a small city, about 15-20 minutes away from New Haven or Bridgeport, depending on which way you are going. :wavey:

I live in a mansion in Beverly Hills...Marilyn Monroe lived here back in the day.
Yep.
Sesly, I live in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with my dad in North Texas. My parents turned the old closet that used to be in our den, into a 2nd bathroom a long time ago...thank God, because I would NOT wanna share a bathroom with my dad. I clean it every week and yeah, no freakin' way am I sharing. We have a dog, but she stays outside. We do have a 2 car garage, but one side is non usable because my dad had a spa room built in there and he wishes he hadn't bought the dang spa. Dippo.
My dream home will be 2 stories (I've always loved going to my friend's houses where they had stairs...I'm fascinated with stairs for some reason. LOL Even had a dream about a gorgeous stairway. I'm wierd. I want grey brick and I have the inside of my home kind of mapped out already. Now, I just need to win the lotto or something and I'm set. LOL

Currently I'm in a three- bedroom apartment in the burbs. Although, my BF and I are going to be moving to a new house in April. He's in England now selling and/or packing his stuff.
I can't wait. It's a fairly nice size at 2500 sq. feet ( two stories, 4 bedrooms & a 'loft'). The yard isn't very big though, but that can be said for most new houses in Vegas. We have watering restrictions due to the 20- something year drought, and even if you do have a big yard it has to be rocks. It does have a pool though, albiet a small one.
Oh, and I don't have any pets. My mother never let me have them growing up, and my BF will freak if animal hair gets on anything. :o Maybe I'll get a fish. But then again, I'm allergic to seafood and have kinda hated even looking at fish my whole life. :D

I live in a house/apartment. It was once a house - and is now two apartments - one upstairs and one downtsairs. I have the downstairs. It's pretty big for me - one bedroom - it's very cute...
I also have the basement which has the washer and dryer - and I have free reign over the back yard and deck (very nice wood deck in the back) - the yard is fenced so it's nice to be able to let Clancy (dog) out to do her stuff and not always have to go with her.
So I lived by myself until recently when I adopted Clancy - my dog - and now she shares the place with me -but is a great roomate...except for the excessive drooling and gas - but from roomate stories I've heard before it doesn't sound like I could do much better with a human ;)

I live in a very small midwest town with my husband and son. Right along the Missouri River. Good area for hunting artifacts. It's a farming community, corn & soybeans. We have several orchards, apples & peaches.
My home is a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath ranch style home. We just had a new front porch added a few years ago.
We have 2 bird dogs, Sam & Pat. 1 cat.......and a salamander.
I was born and raised a "Country Bumpkin"...... :p

I don't think you're weird at all. :wavey: I grew up in a ranch & my one criteria when we were looking for our house was that it was an "up & downy house." No split levels or raised ranches for me, though. I don't want to have to climb or go down stairs just to get into the house.

I live in St. Louis city. 2 bedroom one bathroom house with a finished basement. It's just me and my 3 year old, so it's the perfect size. The yard is decent, and I don't have a garage but I do have a carport in the back. :p Better than nothing I guess!

I live in the 'burbs on the west side of Indy in a 2200 sq. ft. 2 story with 3 bed, a playroom, and 2 1/2 bath (it's a bitch to clean by myself). It's just my daughter and I, the dog, and 6 fish. I have a 2 car garage, but I can barley fit 1 car in it because of all my **** that I need to get rid of! I have a kinda small yard... 1/3 acre? but that's OK because I have to mow and fertilize it. Damn, I need a maid and a lawnboy.....

1/3 of an acre is small, huh? My lot is 40 feet by 120 feet! Big enough for us , though.
I forgot that lots of people don't have basements! We do, half is finished into a bar/family room with a gas fireplace. Comes in mighty handy in the winter. The other half is just laundry & storage.

I live in a one bedroom apartment. It's one of those big old houses that was turned into way to many apartments. My stupid "kitchen" just starts at the edge of my frontroom, I hate that. But my bathroom is strangely giant, I love that. It's very long, a long hallway bathroom. I have a ton of windows, which seems neat, but really isn't that neat...in the morning, the sun shines directly into my eyes from the window across from my bed. The big house is right on a main street, but i am lucky, cause my apartment is around back and up the stairs - I am the only one that faces the tree filled hills, and I'm the only one with a tiny courtyard (with a giant tree in it), and, you have to go through two gates to get to my apartment, so people don't know it's there as much - everyone else's is basically visible from the street/sidewalk.
It's okay, kinda cute. I really, really, really, really need new carpet, though.
I am right on the Oakland/Berkely line, but it's a cute neighborhood, not too crowded, lot's of family houses and nice trees and stuff.

I live in a 4-bedroom 2-story house on a full basement (gotta watch out for those damn tornados here, too!). We have a 2-car garage too, which I LOVE! Our house is on 4 acres of land, which is great for me, since I have LOTS of room to plant flowers, but not so great for my husband who loathes yard work. But, hey, he's the one who grew up out here in farm county, and he's the one who chose to remain out here so....land, grass, etc. comes with the territory, bucko! We have 2 dogs and 4 cats, and since we're so spread out, they've got plenty of room to roam.
I love it here, really. It's very peaceful, and if I can just keep WallyWorld from backing a new SUPERCENTER up to my back door, it'll stay that way! Sheesh, those things are everywhere!!!!

I live in a 2 story, 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 2500 sq ft house, on 5 acres(mow 4, 1 acre of woods). Last spring, I added 650 sq ft onto my living and family rooms(on top of each other). Living room is big(26x25) with four skylights and gas fireplace. Family room is 35x25, with pool table, big screen, gas fireplace, and an oak bar that I built this winter. Detached 2 car garage, small horse barn(no horses though), and a pool.

Right, I have a fabulous roommate, but even she gets on my nerves sometimes. However, compared to my last roommate (the SWF  ) she's a complete .
We live in a 2 bedroom apartment in the city where the rent is under market because my roommate has been there for 6 1/2 years and the landlord has never raised the rent on her. It's a nice place. My room is too small and so is the living room. The LR is perfect for 2 people but we can't have guests over to watch TV or anything since we only have room for 3 seats in there. However, we have a strangely gigantic kitchen! Especially for my part of town, nothing is big here unless you are dishing out $2500 or so. So for what we pay, it's a palace. I really love the location. I just have to figure out how to live in that tiny room without making myself so crazy. It's only tiny cuz I've got a desk and a vanity in there. But there's nowhere else to put it. Diss, I wish I had an office, lucky!
Oh yeah, we have a water view (limited in living room and my room, my roommate really has the view from her bedroom, beyotch) and roof access. People who visit us love it and think we are living like princesses. I guess we sort of are. Except city life can be rough, you always park a block or 3 away. You have to lug everything up 3 flights. It is effin' loud with the drunks and the sirens. I don't feel as safe as in the 'burbs.
But I get to walk everywhere! Including home fom the clubs so i never have to worry about driving after drinking. Then again, I sort of have to walk everywhere. I can't just pull up with the car and grab groceries and park in my garage and complain about lugging them a few feet. That's what Peapod is for!
Oh yeah, we have a tiny bathroom which is fine. Someday I will move back to the burbs but I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to live here! :blob1:

We finished radiation a week ago. Thank god! That 6 hour (roundtrip) drive was killing me. Now, he's just doing a chemo treatment every three weeks, with my vet down the road. He's acting fine though. Lord, that dog loves to play. Before he was sick, I'd only play for 30-45 minutes, then MAKE him lie on the couch with me. Now, I play for the duration he wants to.....sometimes an hour or two, throwing a leather chew across the family room, for what seems like hundreds of times....
Hopefully he'll be lucky with beating this. If not, I at least hope I'm buying him some more quality time. He's my best buddy. :xoxo:

I may be the only real estate broker in the world who still rents an apartment! We hate our neighbors and try to get them to leave, but the apartment complex won't kick them out. We only pay $580 a month, and that's with an extra $15 fee for month-to-month. It is 840 sq. ft., 2 bed/1 bath, where I live with my BF of 3 years, and 2 cats, and is in an area a little west of Portland, even tho my address says Portland.
I want to buy a house with cash (no loan!) so I'm saving up. If anyone needs a broker referral please let me know. (Shameless business plug) I can connect you with a qualified real estate agent in your area (for you or anyone you know) and make a little money off of it.
Every little bit helps, and much of my business is referrals! I do want a large home, 2000+ sq. ft. because I got a lot of memorabilia from you-know-who. :woohoo: Please help your fellow Ledgie get out of her apartment.

Here in the UK its a bit silly for renting, most very small flats throughout the country go for between $800 and $1500 a month, If you want to rent in the heart of London you are looking at somewhere around $4000 per week for an average 1 bedroom flat!!!
Fortunately I don't rent but the rent rates plus the stupid taxes we have over here are really making it tough for a lot of people..

I live with my boyfriend (of 11+ years  ) in a little one bedroom, one bathroom cinder block house. The bedroom, kitchen, living room and office are exactly the same size -- it's basically just a quartered square with a bathroom off the back. There's a big yard, though. Almost an acre, I think. We have one inside cat and three outside. Oh, and we're two houses down from my parents.
I live with a roommate in a small, 2 bedroom/1 bathroom cottage. It's 80 yrs old, but the landlord restores the whole place every couple years. It's quaint & cozy. And by that I mean waaay too small. But when the going rate for a 1 bedroom apartment in a decent area is $1,000 - $1,500 a month, whadda ya gonna do??? :distress:

I live in Sparkyland, which is in Los Angeles. Because I am hypersensitive to stimulus and noise, I live with my 2 small parrots on an acre in the hills, up a private driveway in a 2bd/2ba 2000 sq ft house. It is a modern house, a la Schindler, that is about 70% floor to ceiling windows. It's like living in a treehouse. No neighbors can see me, and I can't see them. I only see trees, deer, squirrels, skunks, and the occasional coyote. The best part - no one can see the swimming pool either. It's my own private little oasis, and helps keep me off the Xanax that living in such a chaotic city might require me to take otherwise.

I own a 1600 sq condominium on the fourth floor of a five story building in beautiful downtown West Hollywood. The view from my den window from left to right- The Mondrian Hotel, The House of Blues, The Continental Hyatt House, the back of The Standard and then The Argyle Hotel.
I have two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room, wet bar, balcony, fireplace and foyer. The building I live in was built in 1961 and was converted to condos in the late 70's. Donna Summer used to live in the unit down the hall from me during her salad days. We've upgraded one of the closet units into a laundry room, which really kicks ass to be able to do laundry!
The view from the balcony is pretty good. Because I'm at the base of the Hollywood Hills, I'm above street level so I can see all of downtown L.A, Bunker Hill, Park LaBrea, etc.
Average rent for a one bedroom apartment in my neighborhood is about $1,600.00 a month. Needless to say, I'm glad I own.

I live in two different places. My parents house is a standard (but f*cking ugly) four bedroom, two bathroom house in the suburbs.
We have a koi pond full of ogons, a giant schauzer, an adorable black cat, and a full grown ball python. Okay, we don't have any of that stuff. My Mom doesn't allow pets but those are all the pets I want. :(
Anyway, my dorm sucks, but I do spend most of my time there. No computer, damn it. Have to go to one of the university's labs for that. It's pretty damn ugly, too. And cheaply built. It's a unit with two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen-esque area with nothing more than a sink and some cabinets. That's a joke. My best friend lives in the other bedroom. The walls are covered with pictures of Stevie, Christine, Lindsey, Bob, Ani DiFranco, Carly Simon, Barenaked Ladies, The Beatles, and lots of others. And I decorate with stethoscopes, too.

Our block is about 800square metres...I don't know what they is as feet or yards or whatever you use in America, it is cosy but I think it is too small, and its a problem because it isn't finished.

I have a nice fenced patio and enough garden to be perfect for someone who works all the time. I also have a carport and I love that feature! I live with my family of cats and love it that way. I live near Washington DC, down near Fort Belvoir for anyone who knows the area.

The apartment I'm currently in is $1300 a month. It's really too much money for what it is. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, no view, and annoying neighbors :p . I think it's that much because it's new and there's alot of expensive houses in the area.
In a few weeks I'll be moving to a new house, so good riddance to apartment life.

In terms of my living situation, I'm really really lame.
I still live in my parents' house (rent is OUTRAGEOUS in my area so I can't afford to move out) which is a crappy three bedroom/two bathroom maybe 1500 sq. ft. house in a sh*thole town called Vacaville (which has a prison that was once home to Charles Manson and is full of churches and gas stations and the only things to do here are eat, shop, bowl, and watch movies). I am the only child still at home. I share the house with my parents and my menagerie of two cats, four rats, four bettas, sixteen hermit crabs, and a frog.

I live in an apartment in downtown Seattle. It's a good-sized studio in a new, modern, eight-story building. I had a nice two bedroom, three bathroom condo out in the suburbs for a few years but I was bored and the condo was too big so I sold it and decided to try city life. My responsible side tells me that I should buy something instead of rent but I really do like having an apartment and not being attached to something. I like knowing that I could pack my things tommorrow and disappear. I know, I have issues. :) I love living in the city, there are hundreds of bars, restaurants, shops, theaters, etc. within walking distance, it's probably not for everyone but it's perfect for me. I live alone, I had roommates when I was younger but I can't deal with that anymore. I had a cat here but she died last year. :( I loved her but I'm done with pets, no more kitties for me.

I live in a perfectly boring one bedroom apartment in a perfectly boring suburb of Chicago. My apartment is in a totally anonymous building, part of a totally anonymous complex. I'm on the seventh (and top) floor of a building with about 100 units in it. Here's (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v103/rockonlily/DSC00428.jpg) a picture of my living room I took so my mom could see the new curtains I just made.
As for rent- I have an incredible deal on a 1-bedroom, and I pay about $700 a month. When I was in the city, the least I paid was splitting $1100 for a three bedroom in a crappy part of town. We were paying $1200 for a one bedroom smaller than my current place down in the South Loop a few years ago.
I'm visiting my parents in Kansas right now, and almost peed my pants when we drove past a (nice & new) apt. complex that was advertising a $450 rate for one bedrooms, and my cousin said "What a rip!"- I wanted to clock her.

It's actually just on the two walls you can see in the picture! It surprisingly doesn't get too toasty- but I rarely turn the heat up anyways. I think I keep the thermostat around 65-70, and half the time I crack a window anyways, even in the winter.
I lived for years with a freak of nature that paid electric bills in amounts of hundreds of dollars to keep the A/C at 60 degrees at all times, and would be enraged if the heat went above 65- so I just got used to it!

Here you can get a real small one bedroom apartment for around $450 a month. The last time I rented was about 5 or 6 years ago, and it was a pretty spacious 2 bedroom 1 bath, with a decent size kitchen, and and living room/ dining room combo for ...... $675? I can't stand the idea of renting when I own 2200 sq. feet for around $850 a month.
It cracks me up how the prices of renting/owning vary from place to place. In Arizona, a friend bought a house around the same size as mine here, and paid around $60,000 more then I did.

This has been a very interesting thread!
Let's see. I live in South Jersey, directly across the bridge from Philly in a place called Cherry Hill. (about a ten minute drive from Center City) I own a five bedroom, two bath house with a big living room, average dining room and kitchen. There is a huge porch that I turned into a play room and we have a partially finished basement and laundry room. My yard is really big as this was one of the first houses built in my neighborhood, the previous and ONLY owners had two lots. So, we have a big ole garage at the back of our property that holds all my husbands various tools, the pool stuff, bikes, Christmas **** etc. We have a pool for the kids, one big long haired black cat named Puddy, a littertrained bunny named Walley and one hamster named Cupcake.
My husband is a contractor so he has done a ton of work on our house. When we bought it, it was only three bedrooms but he finished the entire attic and put a bathroom up there so my two older kids have the entire attic for themselves. It is two bedrooms, a small little computer room and a bath. The other bedrooms are on the main level.
Thats about it. Oh yea I live about fifteen minutes from Marissa...the only Ledgie around here I know.

I'm glad I started this thread! *pats self on back*I think it's interesting to know where people live.
My new favorite TV show is Househunters on H&G. Each show, they show people go through 3 homes & pick which one they decide to buy. Plus, they show everything from small cottages to apartments to large homes. One show was a single guy looking for a cozy fixer-upper. Another had a retired couple whining that one house didn't have a big enough walk-in closet.
The only thing that pisses me off is that they never mention price on the show. And I'm a nosy bitch.
Hillary (I think it was you who asked, right?)- 2 BR apartments around here can be anywhere from $500 a month or higher depending on where you are. They just renovated several old manufacturing buildings downtown into very cool, very modern, very large apartments. Kind of like one huge room, with the bath & BRs separate. I think those are around $800 -= $1500 per month. My first apartment was a 2BR 1bath upstairs in a double home. We paid $375 a month (only 4 years ago.) I loved it, it was cute but not tiny, lots of woodwork & built ins.
One of the best things about my area is the price of housing. Cheap, cheap, cheap, compared to other areas of the US. I think our average home price is like $125,000 or something. I bought my house for $55,000. And no, I'm not in a bad neighborhood. It needed some cosmetic work, but nothing spectacular. I prefer older homes with charm - just not a fan of new-builds (not that I could afford it anyway, lol!)

Not without having 5 roommates in a one bedroom! That's what some people wind up doing. It really sucks.
My rent is $1300 for a 2 bedroom but it should be at least $1600 for the area. With the central artery down (Big Dig) and the parks being put in it is just going to skyrocket. I hope my landlord doesn't decide to sell! But if she does, I bet she'll make a killing.

My rent is $1300 for a 2 bedroom but it should be at least $1600 for the area. With the central artery down (Big Dig) and the parks being put in it is just going to skyrocket. I hope my landlord doesn't decide to sell! But if she does, I bet she'll make a killing.

No crap, they worked on that f*cking thing for 20 years and it's an absolute mess. :distress: Channel seven has dubbed it the "Big Lie".

Yep, it's twue. It's a bit cheaper here, across the bay, but still expensive. For instance, the studio below my porch is now renting for, like, $800. My one bedroom is $663 - I'm lucky cause i've been here five years....
The first time I read this I thought you wrote that the porch below your studio was $800. I thought, "Wow, that's a LITTLE ridiculous. "

Just spotted this thread. I've attached a picture of our house. It's nothing special... 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen, living room and dining room. We have a mortgage and houses are ridiculously expensive in the UK. We pay around £650 (around $1200) a month and this fluctuates with interest rates. And we certainly don't live in an expensive area or city. Go further south and the prices rocket.

I own my house, bought it in 1998: 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2-car garage, fireplace, pool and lovely backyard...I'm about 15 minutes from downtown Austin - about 12 minutes from where I work, so I usually come home for lunch every day. I live alone, but do have a kitty! So it's a lot of work, but I do enjoy it. In fact, it's a beautiful day - I should be outside RIGHT NOW getting my hands in the dirt and planting flowers and stuff....instead of wasting my time on message boards.... :D

My grandparents lived in it before we did....and the other house we lived in from the time I was born until I was 6, they and we lived in that one too. My dad knows how to get out of paying rent. LOL Kidding, he does pay her rent, unlike some OTHER people in my family who have taken advantage of my grandmother's generous nature.
My bedroom is on the end with that one window. I'm rarely in there though, except to sleep. I live in the den with this dang computer. I need help.

I live in a 4,000 sq ft. white house with black shutters that was built in 1735. It's a couple minutes from the center of our quaint little New England town. Emory Washburn was born and grew up in the house and he went on to be the last Whig governor of MA in 1858. It's got 5 bedrooms on the second floor and a 2 more on the third. There are four kids in my family and my grandmother lives with us as well. There was some asbestos in the cellar and things are basically falling apart everywhere. Worcester Airport took most of my grandfather's cow pasture by eminent domain, but otherwise there are some nice fields and woods around and I really can't complain. I'm very grateful for what I have.

I was going to post that your house looks pretty American too, Pip. I guess I thought everyone lived in old stone cottages in the UK.
I'll post a pic soon.

Are the prices dramatically different where y'all are?
They're building a new housing development next to mine. It was advertised to all of us that it would be low income housing. Everyone shuddered at the thought and the prospect of the crazies relocating from the city. However, this low income housing? begins at $250,000+ O_o Everything here is astronomical. If you want something for a few hundred a month to rent, you'd be living in a cardboard box. They've been selling townhouses around here for $200,000. Sick. Totally sick.

There's a crappy little neighborhood in our burb that's mostly row apartments, some homes. Some guy wants to come in, tear it all down & rebuild. Not a bad idea, since those apartments were supposed to be temporary housing after WWII  . But where is everyone supposed to go?
BTW - they want to build brownstones and "mid-price" homes. Of course, mid price starts @ $125,000. Oh so affordable for the lower-middle class

I live in a high rise. I used to live in a big ole house, which I still partly own. I am looking to lease the condo out and buy a town house. My life is a little complicated from a real estate vantage point

Well, as we say around here, "don't even get me stahted". If a corporation built it everyone would have been fired it was so badly managed. Mass. Transit Authority is a joke.
