okay, been holding it too long now :sorry:
a. i wish stevie won't tour this summer. i wish she'd spend her energies in the recording studio instead. it's been four years, and i'm getting older too...uh uh...
b. i pray to god that she won't become a vegas act. sharing honours with celine and elton is not really too grand an achievement to aspire to. love, let the grand costumes rest in peace, cher didn't ask for a replacement.
i'm glad that's off my chest now. thanx for listening.

I gotta agree with the Vegas thing. The idea of her doing some type of semi permanent residency thing there really turns my stomach. It's just so... ....whats the word? Commerical? Money driven? UGH. I hate the idea.
I would like her to record but girlfriend takes so friggin long to get a damn thing done on her albums it would mean her disappearing for two or three years. I am not sure I want that. I cannot imagine she is touring this summer without something to promote that is why I am thinking we might be getting some type of GH package or something. That would satisfy WB for awhile I guess. I was really having a hard time believing some of you guys were thinking she was writing and working away on her solo album all winter when she was in Hawaii. I doubt she has one song finished for the thing. :( She may have said she was gonna start it but she says alot of things.

What irks me is that she's pulling out all the stops for these Vegas shows for the VEGAS CROWD! What gives? What are the rest of us (the real fans who would appreciate these shows the most) left with? I know, I know, sour grapes....
I'm excited for the fortunate Ledgies that get to go. I just wish she'd do something like this for a larger, more varied audience!
Edit: But no dancers please! God, we don't need dancers and bull**** for a Stevie Nicks tour do we?!!?!? LOL!

I agree Tommer. I wish she had started writing right away but I just didn't buy it. Now we have a six month long tour predicted?? WTF..? Dancers?? OmGawd..lets hope she doesn't try to do some weird ass 80's Dance herself. She will just embarrass herself. I am glad i am going just to see what the heck she pulls out of her top hat.
Can you just imagine Lindsey's reaction to a show like this? The more I hear about it, the more convinced I am that he will be no where near Caesar's Palace. At least Mick will be there.

I don't think a promoter would ever front her the money for a huge travelling stage show--she wouldn't make it back in ticket sales, IMO. So, Vegas it is. I'm still debating whether or not I want to go. As time has gone on, it's now EXPENSIVE for me to get there and her tickets aren't cheap either because it's Vegas. I am trying to reason dropping $500+ for a three day excursion and I simply cannot do it.
As far as dancing, the only dancing I hope ever occurs on her stage is backsasser movements coming from Sharon and Jana and perhaps a little playful dance a la Stand Back with Carlos Rios. Other than that, let us grab a bottle, hunker down and pray for daylight.

I think when she was talking about Dancers with Jim Ladd, they were making jokes, about how the young pop stars have to worry about their dancers and stuff, and they kind of went of on it again at the end, as a joke. So everybody stay calm. :)

She's bound to embarrass herself somehow because this is going to be an extravagant Vegas show; a little bitty stage show a la everything she's done in the past will not fly in Vegas. I'm worried, but I'm also optimistic at the chance of hearing some old songs. I just hope that she doesn't truly embarrass herself by attempting to do a big, theatrical, high-energy show when she simply cannot do it these days.

Yeah, you all might want to relisten to that section. Stevie is making fun of people who use dancers not suggesting that she is going to use them herself.

Exactly. I simply can't foresee anyone fronting the cash for her to do a travelling stage show like Midler's "Kiss My Brass". Talk about extravagant, she had a bloody orchestra with her on top of everything else. But that's because she makes a helluva lot of money when she tours and Stevie, while a little successful, doesn't. This will be a Vegas only deal, IMO.

Any artist of her caliber can book dates and venues, but that doesn't mean they're going to be fronted a helluva lot of cash for it like Midler or Cher or Madonna. There's no way, in my opinion, that she's going to take her Vegas act on the road because it would be too cost prohibitive. She doesn't make much money on the road as a solo act, so it would be kind of stupid for promoters to sink lots of cash into one of her tours; they'd just be throwing money away.

I would certainly love to see Stevie try her hand at a show like Midler's. A full orchestra, being lowered down from rafters on a carousel horse, having an amusement park for a stage, special videos and short movies made specifically for the big screen (the one Bette did with Judge Judy was a riot), etc. It would be hilarious and incredibly entertaining.

It sounds to me like her actual stage set is going to be much more elaborate than usual with lots of film in the background and i'm sure a **** ton of chiffon that could cloth a small third world country. There are plenty of acts in Vegas that are not high energy and still well done and well received. I don't think her fans expect high energy but random patrons may...especially for that kind of money. However, i'm optimistic she will have a good four day run and above all, enjoy herself and maybe gain a few new fans. To me, she's always a crowd pleaser and it sounds like most of her big fans will be in the front sections so it's not like she has to worry about sour reactions. In my eyes, she could walk onstage wearing pasties singing Mary Had a Little Lamb and i'd probably still cheer her on. Point being, I don't think she's going to embarass herself with whatever she may or may not do.

You also must remember...a lot of people consider Midler to be more of a performer. Stevie is a rockstar and doesn't have a big schtick like Midler (aside from her clothes). Midler doesn't tour all of the time...Stevie tours A LOT. Therefore, when Midler tours, people go because they don't know when they'll see her again. Stevie has toured and or performs in some fashion nearly every year since 97'. It makes a difference, IMO.

Of course it makes a difference, Stevie has oversaturated the market with her constant touring. That's no secret. Going out on a tour later this year without anything to really promote won't help matters, ESPECIALLY since she's so hot on the heels of the SYW tour. I can't wait to see the returns.

Well, it doesn't take a genius to realize that she's not going to be a big draw out on the road later this year. I think it's due to the fact that the Say You Will tour went on for as long as it did. The tickets were quite expensive, they hit the same markets over and over and over, and it just went on for too long, as evidenced by the sluggish ticket sales during the last leg. I think she should wait another year before treading back out into the water if she wants to make much money. It is foolish to think Stevie will embarass herself. More frequent costume changes and old videos does not an embarassment make. I don't think Stevie has done anything embarassing for her career since she quit klonopin and coke. She is not going to be falling off the stage ala Rock and Little! She knows what she physically can and cannot do and what she can and cannot wear- she is a classy lady! She hasn't been wearing longsleeves and showing no leg since the Street Angel era just to wear a tube top and a mini-skirt now! Stevie knows how old she is- she will not be doing summersalts on stage or anything else that would be cringeworthy.

Oh, come on people. Get your titties and any other appendage you may have out of a twist. Stevie won't have dancers a la Hoochie Spears. I think most of what she said in regardes to that was in jest. I don't see her as a permanent Vegas act either. Celine and Elton draw bigger crowds then she ever will.
Of course I'm a hopeless optimist were Stevie is concerned. She could end betraying me. And I have tickets to all four nights

I would love a new solo album if it takes her less then a year to do. I am sort of mad she didn't just start working on it right away- the SYW tour has been over for six months! She has so many demos, wouldn't a half a year be enough time to get a band together and record a dozen songs? I mean, if she recorded 12 of her best demos for her next album it would be fantastic. She has an amazing collection of songs that have never even seen the light of day.
However, this would never happen which is why I am not too upset about the fact she is not planning a solo album right now. I don't want Stevie to vanish for two or three years!
What would be perfect is if she started working on a solo album now and every six months or so she did a week in Vegas. That way if you need a Stevie fix you know you'll never have to wait more then six months! And she'd be working on an album!

I don't think Lindsey wants it reissued. He's been the one holding it back and I just get the feeling he wants to leave it in the past.
Psh. I wish I could say I was smoking right now. Work....9-8 :(
Hey now...nothing is out of the realm of possibility. In 97', Lindsey was doubting they'd go into the studio and record again and hey, look what happened.
I agree. We won't see one for years, in my opinion. It's going to be quite a wait.
I have a feeling if she does another record at all, it will be her last. JMO.

I think she's probably exaggerating the shows fabulousness. Watch her scream about all the fantastic video footage and then watch it wind up being the stupid music videos. I hope that's not the case, but we'll have to wait and see. And seeing as how Vegas shows typically run a max of around 90 minutes, I doubt she'll be changing that many costumes or shaking any hands during Edge of Seventeen. I don't think so, she loves music and it is her life. And she truely is at the top of her game. SYW and TISL included some of the best Stevie songs since the Tusk/Bella Donna era, so why would she quit now? I do think she likes touring more then recording though. I think her favorite thing is writing but, like she says all the time, she doesn't like to have a finished product (aka an album) because then it is over. So maybe you are right and she just wants to write new stuff for her self (like a true artist :woohoo: ) and not exactly do albums.

Maybe she's finally reached that "bliss"--maybe she is content to just put out another album and finish out the rest of her days tooling around the Amalfi coast and travelling to all the places she never really got to see because she was too drugged up and because the touring schedule was too tight when she was younger. Who knows?

Doesn't Stevie still get abit of stage fright? I think that is the very reason she does stay so reserved, she is afraid of embarrassing herself.Yes she has a lot of stage fright. Besides her saying so several times, it's just very obvious to me & people I've seen Stevie with that she's a-tremble onstage.
That's one of the things that separate most Vegas acts from Stevie's Vegas plans -- the other Vegas acts really involve the audience more directly with give-and-take joking around & running gags involving confidences created between the performer & members of the audience. Stevie doesn't do that sort of thing. When she talks onstage at all, it's generally to say "This next song is ..." & then she does the song, & you move on to the song after that.
One good thing about Vegas for Stevie is that she obviously loves the Arizona weather, which she'll have aplenty in the Nevada desert. It will be good for her asthma -- which might even be why she opted to play an extended run in Vegas. The air is good for her asthma & she doesn't have to risk catching microbes from airplane cabins & constant traveling. We don't think of her that way, but she's at the age now when getting a flu can be a serious setback & potentially a major illness for a person. Her health isn't & has never been that great when it comes to illnesses -- she gets sick a lot, even back in the days she was 28 years old & bopping around the college campuses with Fleetwood Mac.
She doesn't want to catch avian flu, so she's playing Vegas.

Agree with you both 100%. Aside from the stage fright (which I agree, is obvious) I think she lacks self-confidence and it's a shame. I tend to think that's part of the reason Running Through The Garden and Destiny Rules were dropped from the set--she just didn't feel confident in herself. Hopefully Vegas will be good for her.

I Really do not think she is going to turn into a vegas act. All she is doing from my perspective is pulling out all the stops. Old clothes, film, maybe walking around with the mic. I thought everyone was sick of her clothes and wanted change. Well here it is! Stevie has never been a Vegas act and I don't think she ever will be. This isnt for the money. Stevie wants to do this for fun. ROCK ON! I will be having fun while im there too. She is a rock legend and should do whatever the hell she wants. She was at the top of her game from 1978 to 1982. After that, it was a slow decline- with spots of brilliance. TISL was a return to form, but certainly not her best work ("Love Changes", "Too Far From Texas", "That Made Me Stronger", "It's Only Love"- all stinkers). I think Mirage contained her best FM material since Tusk, especially considering that "RTTG", "Smile at You", and "Goodbye Baby" were all at least 15 years old.
I'm really hoping she's gonna be great at the Vegas shows. But, she does have the potential to disappoint.

See I couldn't imagine Stevie not doing Rhiannon. I think the Live In Boston version from last year was one of the best ever and it shows that she still can hit that one out of the park (in my mind the last minute of Rhiannon on the LIB DVD is the best part of the entire filmed concert). But that's just me. She may sing it in the lower register but she is so passionate and wild I just love it! And of course I loved the "weeeeelllllll I don't think you do!"s from this last tour. in the beginning, I was skeptical about the Vegas gig..and also about the (hopefully not to come true rumours) Henley/Nicks tour.....
But alas I am the consumate Stevie Nicks fan and caved in and bought tickets for vegas....
So..after hearing this new Jim Ladd interview and feeling Stevie's exuberance and excitement for these shows...I am extremely happy to attend and support Stevies new adventure and cant wait see a little more FLAMBOYANCE! In retrospect, on the SYW tour Stevie was WAY TOO SEDATE in clothes and otherwise and many people picked up on that from the very beginning. (so now we find out, she was just trying to be more casual)
Stevie will not make a fool of herself and I doubt that she will become a Las Vegas stalwart.
But this will be a very special one of a kind show!.......yeah, I too wish she were in the studio recording another solo recording, but I say let the girl have some FUN!!!. In the last 4 years she has put out 2 stellar new recordings and tours in support. I am also of the belief that she has more fun on stage solo than in the restrictive enviroment of Fleetwood Mac! so she probably chomped at the bit to have this opportunity after being more casual for the last 2 years along side Mr. Uptight!

I'm with you on that one, I'm the same.
i would have to say that i'm not disappointed at all that she's not in the studio recording. i think that she feels pressured more when she's promoting an album than if it's just a gh or box set tour. additionally, that pressure seems to add to her nervousness and she essentially ends up looking miserable and frozen onstage. i just seemed to notice that she was very relaxed on the enchanted tour than the tisl tour. she seemed to have more fun and was giddy to the point that i thought maybe she was hittin something before she took the stage. and, i saw her a few times before 9/11 so that had nothing to do with the more serious tisl shows.
so, i say do the shows. ****, she could come around every summer and it wouldn't upset me. i'd rather have that than have her disappear for 2-3 years; come back with an album that's good but not definately her best work in terms of lyrics, music, and vocal abilities collectively (as for me that's already been accomplished more than 20 years ago); and then when she does come back she's years older than the last time you saw her which ends up being a serious reality check. does this make any sense???
i think if stevie's excited and happy about it then the vegas shows should be good. when she appears happy on stage then i'm a happy concert goer. :)

I really agree with you. I wouldn't like the thought of Stevie vanishing for three years right now. Unless she can seriously learn to speed it up as far as recoring albums goes then I'd rather see her in concert. Maybe she will be quick about this next record. I mean she produced solo albums fairly quickly back in the 80's so why did it take her five years to make TISL??? I hope this next record takes up 6 months or less of Stevie's time. Besides, when you really think about it- it makes sense for her to be touring now while she is still fairly young. When she is really old she will not want to tour, but what is to stop her from making music? I think once she feels too old to tour then she will do nothing but recording music and writing, etc. So I welcome elaborate tours while she is still at the top of her game, because who knows how long she will be able to keep this up, you know?

Alright..I have been wondering ever since this interview with JL, what, if anything, Stevie is going to be promoting on this six month tour she talked about. I know we are talking Vegas again here but realistically, if she is touring until the end of the year, doesn't it seem likely she is going to be pushing something? Like a GH or reissue? When did she release Reconsider Me? I am just trying to figure out what is going on.
As for Vegas, I am sure it will be great. Anything DIFFERENT from La Nicks is worth seeing. Personally, I do not see her recording much more, maybe one more solo album. I agree with whoever said this Vegas environment will be much more fun and less restrictive from the Mac. I know she swears she is stronger now but there are times when Stevie still seems quite intimidated by Lindsey. Not in a bad way necessarily but it is just still there.
Diss...why do you think it's Lindsey who is holding up the cd release of BN? Just curious. I thought I read something at the end of SYW where he said he would love to do that but it was up to Stevie..there were "trust issues" or something.

Maybe her recent stuff isn't quite as good as her classics, but I feel she's near the top of her form as a songwriter. So I say, get back in the studio and churn out the new tunes now while the inspiration is flowing... and skip the constant touring! :woohoo:

I realize she's doing these shows for a host of reasons: financial, creative, as a change of pace, etc...and whatever, who cares? I think the show will be outstanding, superamazing fantastic! I just want to see her tour a little more widely this summer. And as far as new album is concerned, uh, yeah, she'll record another album I'm sure of it. I predict that touring this summer won't postpone that for too long.

The better casinos usually have better waitresses (speed, service, and looks, lol.) There were some scary looking broads at Circus Circus. Not that I'm gay or anything. Diss...why do you think it's Lindsey who is holding up the cd release of BN? Just curious. I thought I read something at the end of SYW where he said he would love to do that but it was up to Stevie..there were "trust issues" or something.
From what Stevie has been saying for so many years, it's Lindsey who won't sign off on re-releasing album. I get the impression that he wants it to stay unreleased, that he wants to leave it in the past and not bother with it.

I would love to see this!
It was hysterical. Bette was hauled into Judge Judy's court for having a "bad sitcom." She also did a duet with Mister Rogers on the big screen that blasted Bush.
Unfortunately, she didn't record any of the shows for DVD or anything because she said it had to be experienced live or not at all. I don't know why, it's the best show she's ever done. I found a guy with some fabulous quality DVDs of all the New York shows, though, and I'm trying to get them but he wants $20 each.

Oh, no, it was at every show of the tour. If you think Cher's show is extravagant and costly, you should have seen Bette's. Talk about jam packed. She had an orchestra with her at each show, the stage was the most elaborate set up I've ever seen (must have taken every waking hour to put it together), the video material was produced specifically for it, etc. She left no stone unturned. I find it kind of funny because Basil, her choreographer, said that when Bette first called for the tour, she had said that she wanted to do something small and toned down, but she ended up doing the grandest and most high energy tour of her career.
I'll definitely let you know if I get them, it's a truly spectacular show. I almost went broke buying so many tickets.

Hi, I haven't read through the entire thread, but I completely support Stevie's desire to do these shows. She's excited about them, they are a gift to the fans who can get there (and I realize not everyone can), and I am looking forward to the experience.
I also would love some new music, and I want a club tour, but we can't always get what we want. At some point, people need to understand that Stevie is not a young woman anymore. She isn't going to jump back in the studio when we want, and she will stop touring eventually. I prefer to appreciate everything she continues to offer knowing that one day there will be nothing, and what a sad day that will be.
I don't defend Stevie unconditionally; sometimes I criticize her as well. But I just don't see the need this time. It's not like she signed a 3 year contract to play Vegas. She is doing a week of special shows for those who can get there, then she will undoubtedly come up with a way to reach everyone again, either with new music or a full tour.

Has anybody here ever been given the chance to play 4 extravagant shows in Caesar's Palace? I haven't! ;)
But Stevie is older now, and been singing for half a century...doesn't she deserve a special engagement in Vegas? Even if she does it again, or permanently (GASP!) it's her right. It's hard to travel, and Vegas for a week sounds good to her.
It will be fun! Please don't be mad (those who can't/won't go) at us who are going. I never vacation! THIS is what I do...see SN or FM play live! You only live once, it's not like we'll get a year 2023 reunion concert to look forward too.

My only complaint is that no place in Vegas ever has Labatt & that's what I drink. They're always like "well, we have Bud, Coors or MGD." Miller? Gag, spit, barf. I'll go with Bud if I must, or Corona if they have them.

I do like mixed drinks, but I get really bad heartburn every single time I drink them. Except for margaritas - those, I have NO problem with! :p And I had a June Bug the other night (S&S mix, Midori, Malibu rum & something else.) It was yummy!
Pale Ale is the one sierra nevada I don't like. Sooooo bitter. Good for you on the Margi's, those are yummy. :D Hmmm, I never get heartburn, how weird. That June Bug sounds really, really sweet...

I used to drink Heinies, but now if I drink, it's usually La Batts. I knew Marissa wouldn't be a beer chick...she is much more classy than I. : > )
Anyone like Killian's?

Thank you! It's nice to see someone support her for once on here. It's crazy to read so much critical stuff on here. Stevie is a classy lady, she will not embarass herself.

You both might get a little tired of the negativity with Stevie's current tours, but I get a little tired of the negativity with Stevie's past tours, especially since it has nothing to do with what actually happened.

Still, Stevie rocked like few others back then... her onstage demeanor was far more "rock and roll" than any of the songs she's ever recorded, and I think even her detractors were at least impressed with the energy of her concerts.
I look at "Then" and "Now" as two sides of the same coin, and the contrast between the two is rather compelling to me.
But, then, I am a dork.

Falling off the stage is a little embarrassing, no? :laugh:What's so embarrassing about that? Byt he way, WHEN did she allegedly do this? I've never heard anyone actually say when it was.
One guy named Nick who worked with the group at the mirage tour wrote me a letter about stuff backstage. I think he was cockin' up his story just like everybody else. Heres what he said (don't sic the copyright gods on me):
There was seldom a dull moment with that bunch of characters. Imagine a group made up of two divorced couples and a total of 6 people (including Curry Grant) who basically didn't like each other but depended on one another for fame and fortune. John, who seldom drew a sober breath, was my good friend in all that. He and I would have a drink together most every show day at my workbox (aka Club 127), just before sound check. I would not ever provide the vodka and tonic, a tacit agreement that kept me out of the line of fire, but each day he would show up with a drink from the dressing room and I would mix one of the same for myself and join him. I never took to Christine and really never got too close. She seemed to be pretty much the embodiment of all that I abhor about the English. Cold fish.
The band hired a group of karate experts for their security. Five mindless thugs. John could never resist ****ing with the security goons. He would occasionally let them lead him up the stairs to the stage, but instead of walking out to his position for the start of the show, he would take a sharp right at the top of the stairs and walk along the edge of the stage with the guitar slung around his neck and his arms outstretched like a tightrope walker. The thugs would be ****ting themselves trying to get into position to catch him if he fell off the stage.
Stevie, the lovable clumsy cow that she is, would fall off the stage almost every time she would reach down to touch someone in the crowd. Lindsey spent most of his time with his head up his ass. Never did like him - way too self absorbed to suit me. Mick is almost too cool and too weird to describe. Him I liked.
I have to end this note. Remind me sometime to tell you about John walking into the door frame, and about Stevie's limo. ....
But, then, I am a dork. :shrug:You just need to sharpen your teeth!!
