View Full Version : A new tour? straight from the horse's mouth!

Well Stevie said she would need a drummer who could tour with her "through the end of the year" and she said that she may pull out Sisters of the Moon for "all these months of touring" ahead. So, she pretty much let the cat out of the bag. It didn't sound like she would be touring with Don- I certainly hope not at least! But the question is, why is she touring? Is this so called "Very Best of" really surfacing and is she touring in support of this new greatest hits package? I just wish the interviewer would have asked what she meant by "all these months of touring" ahead of her. I would really love to know what the deal is and where she will be performing... I'd love to see a list of possible tour dates sometime soon. I love going to Stevie/Fleetwood Mac concerts and would prefer going to more shows and having less new records (of course I'd like new albums also, but not if that means no Stevie concerts for the next three years!)

It was sort of a joke but it's also a song that FM is a pretty powerful part of . Still, Waddy can do the searing guitar solo and I'm sure it could be done well. I just categorize a few songs as more FM than Solo Stevie, in spite of who wrote what. (Pretty much the same way I felt when I heard Lindsey do the Chain on his solo tour--it's not that it wasn't great--it's just that I automatically thought of FM while he was doing it).
I'll just be grateful for any kind of tour this summer and I also don't want recording to get in the way of that. I think they can always record in the winter, when vacation time is over!

I agree with Regina on Sisters of the Moon. It's such an instrument driven song, and I seriously don't trust Waddy with it at all. SOTM coming out on Stevie's solo tour will be as Lindsey loves to say "bittersweet" If there is ONE song I've always wanted Stevie to dig out its SOTM But it really has to be on a Fleetwood Mac tour. Of course if she does it there's no way you'll see me complaining.

Ditto. I have a feeling even if Stevie does some shows with Don she will do a some solos show (by herself!) after she is done touring with him. She never even mentioned Don on the radio show but she did say she will be touring starting in the summer through the end of the year.

Amen! If it is going to turn out Rhiannon a la Dance, keep it in the vault.

Possibly. I would hate to see her solo band butcher it, I would rather she add it to the next FM tour.

I prefer Storms. She could do a kick ass rendition of that one.

Storms would be fantastic. Beautiful Child went over so well on this last tour and (at least I thought) was better than the studio version. So maybe this will give Stevie the motivation to try and do another Tusk ballad. BTW, Storms has never ever been done live right?

Storms would be a revelation. Sable On Blonde ? You have got to be kidding me.
You think she is going to get near a d flat ? She needs to stay MILES away from that song unless she sings it 4 steps down. Which, frankly, is the only way she could attempt it. And you, my dear pal, know it.

I am really not digging the idea of Sisters or even Storms being performed with her solo band. I sincerely hope Stevie reconsiders doing this alone. They are Mac songs and without John and Lindsey..I just would rather have my memories than have her do it now and not do it justice.
Realistically she is not going to be able to even come close to the SoTM of Mirage so maybe she should just let it rest. OR wait until the Mac goes out again because with them behind her she might be able to pull it off. (although not as wildly)
Storms is another gem I would love to hear but I want Lindsey to be singing it with her. Not Waddy. Not just the girls.

I don't understand the resistance to Storms being done solo. The refrain would be very difficult for Lindsey to sing on tour, think back to the Destiny Rules doc. where certain songs were ruled out because Lindsey knew he couldn't hit the high notes night after night. Other than that where does Lindsey sing with Stevie during this song? The guitar, heck any of the instrumentation on Storms is not very difficult so any of the musicians stevie has worked with should be able to do it justice. I don't think Stevie will be doing storms or I think she would have mentioned it during the interview, but I really don't think there would be even a small difference between Fleetwood Mac doing it live or Stevie solo doing it live. Chances are even with the Mac live, the girls would be singing backup on the song.

Storms is one of my most favorite songs and, for me, it is a Mac song. I really am not a fan of the Mac songs she does with her solo band EVER. That includes Rhiannon and GDW. I just prefer them with the Mac.
I agree LB doesn't really sing that much on Storms but I would rather have him than Waddy. Stevie has numerous gorgerous SOLO songs she could do with her SOLO band. Why bring out a mac gem when she could bring out a solo gem, like BellaDonna, Nightbird, BatB etc?
As for SoTM..I honestly do not think she will ever have the guts to do it again.

I highly doubt that Stevie will bring back SOTM. Did she bring this up on her own, or did someone ask her specifically about this song? I have read numerous interviews where she says that she's going to sing X song in the future and never does.
While this song is one of my all-time favorites, I don't think she should resurrect it. Let's be honest, it kicked butt live because she was high as a kite. I still get goosebumps watching her do it in the Mirage tour video, but there's no way she would go off like that now. Nor would I want her to, she is now a very graceful (and sober) performer.

i don't think the way she used to perform it is a deciding factor in her contemplation about doing it today. it certainly wasn't the case with "rhiannon." when i saw the dance for the first time, i assumed she would go into the usual ending that she used to do years before. i thought she was simply building up to that final crescendo but then she stopped short and i felt like an idiot cause i had all this excited anticipation that she was gonna pull the mike back and really let loose. instead, she peacefully turns away and the song goes on for a few more seconds and that's it.
the live version of the song sort of morphed itself back to the studio version. i think if she does sotm now that's how it's gonna be. there's no wailing in the studio version. actually, the studio version is pretty tame compared to the old live versions. and if she does do it live, the studio version is gonna be the template for how she does it today.

I wouldn't put too much stock into that rumour. All that website did was post a list of acts that are touring this summer, or might be touring this summer. If you look up some of the other acts they listed, most of them are indeed touring this summer, but most of them AREN'T playing that venue.

No one has really addressed or speculated on how a Stevie & Don show would be presented. Will they share the same band? Will they do separate shows and join together for several songs? Or will they stay on stage together for the entire show, and sing and play backup for each other's songs?
How do you think it will be? How do you want it to be? I hope it's true duet-concert, with both on stage for the entire show (for better or worse...lol).

Respectfully ( :wavey: ) - I think many of the older fans love them both equally. I mean though they continue to release music, they are both from the 70's and early 80's - that was their most popular time - save for La Nicks' resurgence from the Dance onward. So, I think it makes sense, esp. considering the groups they were in and with which many many associate them instantly - have three of the largest selling records of all time  So, while I am not wild about this tour, it makes sense to me from that vantage point

I think they should do it as an onstage thing together thing. I think otherwise it will be too long. I think La Nicks could do a few songs solo and then DH could join her for one or two and then she could go and change and let him do a few and then join him for a few. I think that would work out great.

Well, goodness knows I always like Stevie best when she is doing harmonies with someone. But I suspect the show will be split, as they are both solo artists. Imagine them agreeing on sharing the same band. Anyway, I hope they do a bit of everything (although I don't really care much about Don's songs) ie, solo and together. It would be lame of them to tour together, and never do any songs together.

So, I think it makes sense, esp. considering the groups they were in and with which many many associate them instantly - have three of the largest selling records of all time  So, while I am not wild about this tour, it makes sense to me from that vantage point
Yes I see your point...she just seems so much more ..i dunno..ARTISTIC, maybe than him? I dunno how to say it?

I know what you mean. I mean I think he is good, I like his music, he is a star, etc. But, she just seems more genuine. Maybe that is just my bias - but it is the way I feel and I do know a little bit about it as I have been listening to them both since like 1974
I am not thrilled about this double bill, but am happy in a way if it means no more quasi greatest hits package  - in all fairness to her, she has not realy done that in awhile - The Dance being the last time I can think of. I mean for TISL, she sang obscure TISL songs and for SA she sang on the beginning s few from that record.

At least we can take comfort in the fact that the Don/Stevie tour could only possibly be about two months long. I'm hoping after that we see some SOLO shows pop up!!!
I would be sort of excited if it was any other duet concert. Sheryl Crow, Lindsey Buck, Tom Petty, etc.
I am a little excited about this but I would be jumping up and down if this was an actual solo tour.

I think this tour is an excellent idea. The whole Eagles-Fleetwood Mac rivalry and the association of Stevie and Don through the years sets up an interesting background for what could be a great tour. My only complaint is that it should have happened a couple of decades ago. (Could you imagine a Stevie-Don tour in 1985? It would have been HUGE!)

Separate bands is a very scary thought, my dear. If any of us think the tickets will be outrageous simply because it's Don Henley and Stevie Nicks together, just imagine how much the prices would be if they both had separate bands.
Chances are that they'll both do very abbreviated setlists, sing a couple of songs together, and then call it a night. Not worth my money or time to see Stevie only do a few songs on her own (and I can't stand Henley) when I could try and see other artists for cheaper and with longer, better setlists.

totally. although, if I could not go to Vegas, I might be somewhat excited, maybe. maybe. Basically, I agree with you. And what songs do you think she would sing? Bet your bottom dollar she's not busting out anything even remotely obscure for the "duo fans"

Stevie and Don playing Leather and Lace is a given. It would be nice for them to perform The Highwayman...and even Reconsider Me. Will it happen? Probably not.
I'd be much more excited at the prospect of Stevie touring with Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers. Most of them were involved initially at the start of her solo career. Can you imagine how great and rocking all of her songs would sound with Tom's band? They would really add some muscle that's been missing for some time.

Stevie and Don playing Leather and Lace is a given.I got to see the 1st time they did that live, plus the 2nd time (but not the 3rd time) but then again the 4th time.
