hi everyone.. hope you're all well and happy :)
i was just browsing another stevie site and some posts made me think... would it mess up a kid to be named Stephanie Lynn or Stevie Rhiannon Belladonna or another SN-inspired name (SN, perhaps)?
It's one thing to call your cat Sara Belladonna Stevie II but would you call your child something Stevie related? Or, if you already did or are yourself named after a famous person your parents loved, does it feel wierd?

I named my daughter Sara, and it's not weird at all to me. Hell, I tried to name her Rhiannon, but my hubby wouldn't have it.

Not only are there people here on this board who have named their children after Stevie songs, there are actual people here who were named after her songs!
I think it's kinda nice. Sara and Rhiannon are beautiful names in their own right, plus it's lovely to have a song with your name in it too
I have two songs I love with my name: Song For Sharon by Joni Mitchell and My Sharona (hehe) by The Knack.
I'm glad I went with Sara, because, it is still to this day, my most favorite song ever.
But I sure tried for Sara Rhiannon.... :D

Sara is not an unusual name though.. I meant names that would make other people go.. "ah, did your parents like stevie nicks by any chance?".. eg. belladonna rhiannon crystal vision silver springs buckingham nicks (i am exagerating a little)
I'm not opposed to the practice at all (i would call a daughter stevie, absolutely, as it is a lovely name).
I myself am named (so they say) after melanie safka... 60s folk singer.

I wanted to name my daughter Rhiannon but I was very strongly vetoed  Everyone said they wouldn't call her that, so why bother? 3 years later I STILL wish I would have gone for it anyways!

Not my kid. I already have a few names picked out in the event that I ever procreate (what a thought...).

That stinks. I know a couple of people named Rhiannon and I think it's a pretty name. But those who don't like it REALLY dislike it, bastards.

It's one of my goals in life to walk down the aisles of a Stevie show shouting "Sara, where are you? Rhiannon?" And seeing how many people turn their heads going "Me?"

My cats name is Belladonna. I dont think I would name my daughter after a stevie song. There are too many other names I have chosen that i would like better :)
.. but if I did, it would be 'Belladonna' but of course that name is already spoken for by the cat !

Y'all could name your kids Amber.... ;)
I don't like any of the stevie names except Rhiannon, so...I might choose it for a middle name, but probably not..it's awful pretty, though. :)

I named my daughter Sierra Stefani Rose - the Stefani is after Stevie but I changed the spelling. I thought it would be a bit much to name her first name after her. I have a lot of nicknames for her, but one is Stevie Rose (which she hates). When I was younger I thought of naming a girl Shadow Lace (gag!)

I love the name sierra, and sierra stefanie rose is beautiful.

Ooooh, I like Bella, too!
I wanted to name my daughter Sara, but the middle name I wanted didn't exactly go with it (Alyn, after my brother Alan who died a coupla years before she was born.). Anyway, my husband chose Elizabeth, and of course, it's been shortened to "Beth," and I know he chose that because of a damn Kiss song. Ah well.

So far the only problem I've had with my daughter being named after a Stevie song and a Welsh goddess, is her grandparents never pronouncing her middle name right.

I think the name Rhiannon is very beautiful on its own, but the problem is when you combine it with a last name. It doesn't mesh very well with other names, and it would never work with my last name. I think if you love the sound of a name and it happens to be a Stevie reference, then there is nothing wrong with that, but to use a name just because it's a Stevie reference is a little much.

I know a couple who named their daughter Rhiannon, and when I found out, I was like, "really? How cool is that? I didn't know they were FM or SN fans..." And then someone said, I think it's just a fairly common Welsh name. (They're of Welsh descent, living in England). Damn. They call her Rhi (Ree) which I think is very pretty.

One of my daughter's middle name is Lynn and I have a brother named Stevie and my mother-in-law and a neice are named Sarah. Close enough
I did want to name one of my daughters, Rhiannon back in the 80's when she was born. Hubby wouldn't hear of it   I guess he didn't want people always asking if we named her after the Fleetwood Mac song  Oh well, one daughter is named Khara. That is close enough and close enough to satisfy the in-laws too since my neice was born a few months earlier and named after her grandmother. I do have a grandson named Christopher and maybe one of my kids will name any more grandchildren to come along Sara, Bella, Rhiannon, Nick

I'm still amazed my hubby agreed to Rhiannon... but even he had to admit it is such a lovely name. He would never have agreed to Stevie but I didn't ever really want to use that. Now I just call my car Stevie ;) I do have a friend whose little girl is Stevie and she is very cute. I think Belladonna is a bit much for a childs name tho...

Hubby would never allow any name Mac related. Never. Ever. No way.
That being said, I really like the name Stephanie, or Stevie for short, BUT every single person named Steven (or Stephan, or Stephana) in our family for the past 100 years or so has died young. My paternal great-grandfather died at around 40, I think, and my dad's baby brother died when he was just a few weeks old. There are a few cousins too.
For real! My dad insists it's some old Bulgarian gypsy curse. I don't know if I buy into that, but I'm sure as hell not taking any chances.

I love the name Lola. I also love Sara and considered it for a baby name. Unfortunately, I have boys. Hubby would never ever have gone for Rhiannon or Stevie..in fact, he would have laughed me out of the house for suggesting it. I love the name Rhiannon though. I also really like Lilly or Bella.
I dig Lindsey's daughter's name as well, LeeLee.

I do like the name Lily...I remember it was the youngest daughters name on Step By Step.

I fought tooth & nail for one of my twin daughters to be named Rhiannon, but like a common theme here, my husband vetoed it. He always did name association - like I would say a name, i.e. Maria, and he would say something like he knew some smelly kid named that growing up and every time he hears the name he would think of her. So for Rhiannon, he just looked at me, blinked, and said "Reanimator". What a jerk.

my cousin beat me to the name 'lily' but it's short for lillian. i always think of the cartoon 'rugrats' - lill-ee-innn...
my nephew is stevie, my best friend's name is stephanie lynn and her daughter is bella.
everyone claims that it's a coincidence, but by the time i get around to having kids, there won't be any 'stevie' names left. coincidentally, of course...

I really love Leelee, too. I think it's very sweet. I wonder, though, if she'll feel the same when she's 40...
Lily? Right up there near the top of my list. I've actually thought I could get away with Lily because my future hubby would likely never know of the connection to Stevie. I also like Julia and Jane. Annabelle Lee... Well, I like Annabelle. I don't think I'd ever use Rhiannon or Belladonna or anything too obvious. I'd feel like I was almost burdoning my kid with my obssession. But I will forever regret not naming my dog Gypsy. She would have been a perfect Gypsy. Dammit.

My baby girl, due in early July, will be named Lily. Not primarily because of the Stevie reference, but it's an added benefit. (It was my great-grandmother's name). Now let's just hope the ultrasound technician was right about the gender--we worked so hard to come up with a name that we both love and seemed to fit. I'd hate to have to start over with a boy's name and ditch all those pink clothes. :)

I heard 'Rhiannon' on the radio when I was five years old, in late 1975, and I was just blown away. I turned to my Mom in our car, and told her that I was naming my future daughter Rhiannon...of course, I don't think she took me too serious, but I was very serious. I never forgot the song, the name, or Stevie...and fifteen years later, when my daughter was born, my husband and I named her Rhiannon. :) Then almost seven years later, along came our second daughter...we named her after my Grandfather, but her middle name is Stephanie. :) My husband loves their names, and never had a problem with it, thank goodness. I will say that Rhiannon has a difficult time, sometimes, at school...believe it or not, many people haven't a clue who Stevie is, let alone the song 'Rhiannon,' and many a teacher and students have pronounced her name wrong over the years. Until Rhiannon corrects them, they call her 'Rhiana' and 'Briana' ~ everything except Rhiannon. I've even had to write the pronounciation down on paper, for one of her teachers, when she was in the 1st grade! You should see how many people can't spell it, as well! Rhiannon is so proud of her name, though...and once her friends find out about her name, and the story behind it, they think it's really cool.

I don't think its right when parents give their children such names. Kids are very cruel and will find any reason at all to tease and belittle each other, so I think it would be best if parents avoided giving bullies more fodder for their cruelties.
Sara is a fine name to give a girl. It isn't bizarre and by itself does not scream 'Stevie Nicks' but something like Rhiannon or Bella Donna (which is also a drug) does. You want to name something as a tribute to a celebrity that you like? Get a pet.
Just my opinion.
On a similar note,
Parents should be more considerate about how a child's first name relates to the family's last name. I went to school with two different girls (I didn't know them, but I knew of them only because of their names) who both had the first name Crystal. Their last names? Ship and Dragon. I kid you not. Another aquaintence of mine was nearly given the first name of Holly until her parents realized that their daughter would be Holly Wood. The best one, or depending on how you look at it - the worst, is a certain Nascar driver whose last name is Trickle and his first name is Richard, but of course he goes by Dick.

I always wanted to change my name when I was little, even tho it's a regular name Christy...I think kids will always hate their name, or get picked on for whatever reason...my last name is Arehart (say air-heart) and I got "air-head" and "air-fart"...sometimes parents can't avoid these things...how about more "Mike"s and "John"s??? I certainly don't see enough of those.!!! ;) With a cool, individual name, people will remember you!
