View Full Version : what should stevie cover?
Hi everyone,
So I'm brand new to the Ledge (although I've been a bit of a lurker) and I thought I'd start a new thread...my apologies if its been done.
Stevie has done already done at least couple of covers (At Last, Just like a woman) and my question is:
If Stevie would cover absolutely any song, what would you want it to be?
I'll kick it off:
I Put a Spell on You
(weeellllllllllllllllll beacuse you're mine.....)
all the same

Okay you guys, so this is my famous friend who is not famous. She has been loitering around this site for months now and has FINALLY posted something. We are sitting together opening night!
She should totally cover Wishing Well by Terrence Trent D'arby
wish me love a wishing welllllllllllllllllll
to kiss and tell
a wishing welllllllllllllllllll of butterfly tears
wish me love a wishing welllllllllllllllllllll
to kiss and tell
a wishing welllllllllllll of crocodile cheers
Can you even imagine how funny that would be?

Instead of that awesome drum beat in Bette Davis Eyes, Stevie could just say
Welllllll, welllll, wellll. Wellll, welllll, welllll!
I hope you know what part of the song this is or it will be completely un-funny.

Thanks Amber!
So you're totally sitting close to me and all the same! Yay!

But lets be honest, couldn't it be for any part?

Those would be good. Not sure if she could do justice to Eclipse anymore, though.
I'd love her to do a Heart tune. These Dreams would be nice, mainly cuz it was offered to her first & she turned it down. Alone would rock, but again, vocally...
Live To Tell by Madonna just popped into my head, for some reason.

(weeellllllllllllllllll beacuse you're mine.....)How cool you say that because she did -- sort of -- cover it at Pacific Amphitheatre, June 29, 1986. During "Rhiannon," she vamped "I Put a Spell on You" while her boom got fixed.
Many years ago, I would have liked to hear Stevie cover "Some People" by Cliff Richard.

I heard this on the radio yesterday- and I NEVER listen to the radio...but the feather in the wind part...SOOOO Stevie....this whole song should be hers!
ALL MY LOVE - LED ZEPPELIN
should I fall out of love,
my fire in the night,
to chase a feather in the wind;
within the glow that
weaves a cloak of delight
there moves a thread that has no end.
For many hours and
days that pass ever soon,
the tides have caused the flame to dim.
At last the arm is straight,
the hand to the loom.
Is this to end or just begin?
Chorus:
All of my love, all of my love, oh,
all of my love to you, now.
All of my love, all of my love,
all of my love to you, now.
The cup is raised,
the toast is maade yet again;
one voice is clear above the din.
Proud Arian one word, my will to sustain.
For me, the cloth once more to spin. Oh.
repeat chorus
Yours is the cloth, mine is the hand that sews time,
his is the force that lies within.
Ours is the fire, all the warmth we can find.
He is a feather in the wind. Oh.
repeat chorus and fade

For me, most of those song cover suggestions sound like a train wreck/career-credibility killer for Stevie. There are so many older, better quality songs out there!!
I just want Stevie to cover herself. I hope I never hear her covering contemporary schlock. (She never will!) It's a little short-sighted to want to see her covering newer songs from her contemporaries and near-comptemporaries. However, "I Put I Spell on You" and older, seasoned classics and obscurities would suit her. An Otis Redding tune would be nice, or something along those lines.
When I hear them, there are a few songs that I think, "Wow, this song would be great for Stevie (or Fleetwood Mac) to cover." But of course, I can't remember them now!!!

Too bad you feel that way because I was just thinking how great it would be if she covered Genie in a Bottle or Get the Party Started! heh... heh... heh...

For her to do those type of songs, in my opinion, would just cheapen her. Never "in a million years" would she stoop that that low. It would look like she's taking one last gasp to grab onto the teen market. She's so beyond that. I bet she isn't even aware of most that...stuff. And, she's never really covered anyone else's famous songs (except At Last, by the great Etta James). Why should she??

She covered Like a Woman, I Still Miss Someone, Free Fallin, Reconsider Me, Somebody Stand by Me, and prolly more I can't think of...these were songs of real, famous people...
If you mean FAMOUS songs, well at least a couple of those apply...

Oh yeah, I forgot about those! But the overall point is...Dylan, Petty and Crowe are a far cry from Genie In A Bottle. :woohoo:

Oh, I know! Silly pop stars' songs aren't worth covering...plus who'd want to cover a huge, current hit song? Stevie covers songs of those she respects or is friends with... :xoxo:

I so agree with those statements. Great points. Not to dismiss the song Geanie in a Bottle, or the current crop of "pop" stars...but it's just not Stevie's thing, for sure. She's miles away from that scene. Stevie is a scene unto herself!

Many of the pop stars don't write songs, but some "write" as in "co-write" as in "helped out"...

I wanted to say welcome to The Ledge, Rachel! :)
Also, for some reason, Carly Simon's "Haven't Got Time for the Pain" came into my mind for a song for Stevie to cover. Odd choice. And I'm not even sure why I love that particular song so much, or why I would want to hear Stevie sing it. But, anyway, there it is.
I suppose I would prefer that she just do her own material, since, IMO, she's done enough covers, as someone else already implied.

Thank you for the "weeeeeeelllllllllllcome"!
I'm just really exited for her to perform some different songs apart from the SYW set list. I would only want to hear covers if they were completely unexpected.
BTW, I think that all the same was being sarcastic about the Genie in a Bottle thing.....trust me on this! Christ, can you imagine?
