I am stunned each time I hear about these shootings. :distress: :distress:

I don't ever remember worrying about this when I was in high school.

How sad is that? I'll be praying for the families of the victims. It makes me sick to think I have to send my child to school, knowing this could very possibly happen. I think I'll send her in a bullet-proof vest.

Guns + Bullets + Angry Teens = Trouble...
Add America to the mix (I'm not trying to piss anybody off, I'm just sad it keeps happening in America) and it's not a surprise it's happened again. I'm not sure what can be done to stop another one. Kevlar vests for kids are not the answer, maybe more restrictive gun ownership laws and better detection of mentally unstable kids is the answer (You always hear the words "loner" "weird" "unsociable" attached to these killers)
My thoughts and condolences to the victims and their families.. :distress:

Well, I don't really have many friends at my school. Does that mean they'll get me in their crackdown after this shooting?

I didn't have that many friends at my school either - my friends went to other schools or were older than me & had graduated already. Of course, I wasn't mentally unstable either.
It's scary - some people are ready to label every hyper kid as ADHD or bipolar or whatever, and other kids who really are sick & need help slip through the cracks.

This is terrible..also terrible is the lack of news coverage it has been getting, because of the immensely high profiled Schiavo case I'm sure...but this is a major deal...and should be talked about

It is terrible, but I disagree that the story should receive more coverage. Teenagers are terribly prone to copycat crimes. We need to talk about violence, but we don't need to show one particular shooting over and over IMO.

Well, if they talked to you they would learn you're not at risk to do this kind of thing. I think that school counselors and teachers should pay more attention to student's emotional well-being.

It starts at home. The parents ARE responsible for their kids, no matter what anyone says. You need to teach your children, spend time with them, show them love and respect. Be involved with your kids, don't just let them go wherever and do whatever they want. Obviously, don't smother them, but don't NOT care, either. :(

Ya, I agree, but in this case, the kid's dad committed suicide 4 years ago, and his mother is in a nursing home due to an accident and brain trauma. So, naturally, he's depressed. Yes, counciling could have been sought out by the grandparents, but this kid has been through some real trauma in his life. While there's no excuse for what he did, the kid was pretty messed up in the head, and I do feel sorry for his predicament prior to this shooting spree.

I heard about this this morning as I was waiting for the Today Show to start (at Rockefeller Plaza) - and it totally put a damper on being there - it was so sad- and the mood at the plaza was so subdued and sad - until Willard Scott came outside
Anyway - SO sad and I can't believe it's happened again.

It was not uncommon for Weise to spend at least one night a week at her home. "He considered my house a safe place to be," she said
