So I was speculation on Nancy's site about I Miss You, and Rupert Hine's name came up. This interested me because I don't really know much about the guy and I'm a pretty big fan of the OSOTM album. Then I read where someone quoted Stevie's liner notes from Timespace:

"whenever Rupert walked into one of these old, dark castle rooms, that the rooms were on fire. There was a connection between us that everyone around us instantly picked up on, and everyone was very careful to respect our space...our TIMESPACE, so we all lived at the castle for about four-and-a-half months. I went home with him to England to mix the album at his studio...he left in December. I joined him there in London in January. We left immediately for his studio, Farmyard Studios, somewhere outside London. It was like being in a cottage in Wales, it was a little spooky...the atmosphere was like nothing I had ever experienced. Then something happened to him that simply made it impossible for us to ever be together again. I left him there...the rooms were still burning, but the fire had been stolen from us. It wasn't over love, in fact...it had nothing to do with love. It was just a bad situation."

What happened to him? Does anybody know? What happened to the fire? Already in my head I've cooked up about half a dozen scandalous possibilities, but I'm just curious as to what everyone things. What broke up Stevie Nicks and Rupert Hine?

A sudden burst of good taste in Stevie? ;) :sorry: I couldn't resist. I have nothing against Rupert Hine, but his sythesizers...

Well he's still producing music. Just googled him and he has a website showing all his production and solo credits. I didn't know he did a bunch of Rush albums and also Tina Turners first 3 comeback albums back in the 80's along with The Fixx. The guy was pretty popular.

Stevie's relationship with Rupert Hine has always seemed kinda intriguing. Because Stevie will never just say what happened between them. I've heard various rumors about what happened. Here's what I remember hearing:

1) That while Stevie and Rupert were recording TOSOTM, Rupert had a certain white powder Fed Ex'ed to the studio while they were in London, and Stevie got pissed at his lack of consideration, since she had been out of rehab a year or 2 earlier.

2) That while Stevie and Rupert were having a little fling for a couple months, he found out that his WIFE (yep, he was married I heard) was pregnant.

Those are the two rumors that I remember. Like Stevie said in the Timespace liner notes, these reasons don't really have anything to do with love, do they? Can anyone else speculate?

My speculation is right there with Svnwndrs'. Sounds to me like Stevie was involved in yet another forbidden love affair (there is someting strangely addictive to it, and Stevie has definitely had her fair share of affairs with unavailable guys - I think it's a defence mechanism/protection thing, but that's a whole other thread!!), and yes, I had also heard that it was at that point that Rupert found out his wife was pregnant. In fact, if you do the math on one of his kids' ages, it works. I've seen a post to that end somewhere.

But I can't help but hope Romy is right, too - and it was just a flash of good sense!!

The old rumour that I heard was that Stevie found him in bed with another MAN! I don't know whether to believe that story.

oooo, that's a good one, Pattie! I had suspected he got someone else pregnant. But, I mean, if he was married....that shouldn't have really been an affair anyways, right?

I also heard something else and it came from the same source as this rumour. I really don't want to post it on the board. You can PM me and I can tell you what I heard. I have no idea if it's true or not.

We have all been waiting for Stevie's autobiography. When is she gonna do a book about her life? Let's face it, she has lived an incredible life. It seems everybody she meets says the same thing: Stevie is a true rock star. Her book would be fantastic.

But this thing with Rupert Hine is so mysterious and I really wanna know what happened between them. I think some of these rumors are true. Apparently, Stevie was pregnant with Ruperts baby and had ANOTHER abortion. So Stevie was pregnant and his wife was too? It's so strange. I do believe that Rupert has been married. And he has a son, who is about 25/26 years old. If you do the math with the dates of when "The Other Side Of The Mirror" recording sessions in Los Angeles ( in that "castle"), and mixing outside of London from like the fall if 1988 and into the beginning of 1989 when all this happened, his son would be the age I said, 25 or 26.

I know he has a son because I read somewhere an interview with Hine who said something about getting an autographed head shot from Courtney Cox for his son cuz he had a crush on her. Something like that..

The night I met Rupert Hine was a dangerous one. He was different from anyone else I had ever known...He was older, and he was smarter, and we both knew it.

um ... he is like exactly the same age as her ... a year older
is Stevie being dramatic again or did he lie to her?? THAT B AAAAAAASTARD
def something weird went on with those two

It's interesting that his Wikipedia page has NOTHING about his personal life at all, beyond his name and birthdate

To be clear he only produced 2 songs on Private Dancer (I Might Have Been Queen and Better Be Good To Me), 2 on Break Every Rule (the title track and I'll Be Thunder) and 1 on Foreign Affair (Falling Like Rain). I don't know who else on here are Tina Turner fans beside myself but here's a tidbit on one of Hine's tracks "I Might Have Been Queen" It was originally nearly 7 minutes. Against Tina's request he chopped the song down to make room for "I Can't Stand the Rain" which was the last track recorded for the album. If you listen to the remix on the soundtrack of "What's Love Got To Do With It" you can hear one of the chopped verses. Sadly the 7 minute version hasn't been released alone with 6 finished songs recorded during that album. Sorry for getting off topic.

Wow that's really interesting! I am a Tina Turner fan as well - never knew that about the Private Dancer album. "I Might Have Been Queen" is one of my favorite tracks from that album. I like a lot of the stuff Rupert Hine did in the 80's as well (with The Fixx, Saga, Tina, Stevie, etc.) I also am a big a-ha fan - so we must share quite a few similar musical tastes!
