Jackson trial under way
Accuser returns to stand after judge threatened to jail singer
Thursday, March 10, 2005 Posted: 2:04 PM EST (1904 GMT)
SANTA MARIA, California (CNN) -- Michael Jackson's child molestation trial began more than 90 minutes late Thursday after the pop star flirted with possible jail by failing to show up on time.
When court resumed, the teenage boy who says Jackson molested him two years ago retook the stand for a second day of testimony.
After Jackson failed to arrive at the Santa Maria, California, courthouse for the scheduled 8:30 a.m. (11:30 a.m. ET) start, defense lawyer Thomas Mesereau Jr. explained to Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville that his client was at a hospital for treatment of a "serious back problem."
But Melville, who last month had to delay jury selection by a week after Jackson was briefly hospitalized with the flu, refused to accept the excuse. He threatened to revoke Jackson's $3 million and jail him for the remainder of the trial if he didn't show up within an hour.
Jackson eventually made it to the courthouse, although he missed Melville's deadline by three minutes. Looking somewhat disheveled, with uncombed hair, Jackson was wearing pajama bottoms and sandals. He walked slowly, with a bodyguard and his father, Joseph, holding him at the elbows.
Once the trial resumed, Melville apologized to jurors for the delay and informed them that he had to order Jackson to court. But he admonished them not to "make inferences" about Jackson's innocence or guilt based on that fact.
"I'm not expressing an opinion about the case," the judge said.
Jackson's delayed appearance came on a possible pivotal day of testimony, with the boy accusing him of child molestation expected to detail what he says happened between the two of them two years ago at Jackson's Neverland Ranch.
The boy, now 15, was on the stand for an hour Wednesday afternoon, but court adjourned for the day before he provided any testimony about the molestation he says happened at Jackson's hands.
On Wednesday, Jackson's accuser had testified that he was "kind of hypnotized" by Jackson after meeting him while undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer and thought "he was the coolest guy in the world."
Jackson, 46, was indicted in April by a state grand jury on 10 felony counts for incidents that allegedly occurred in February and March 2003.
The charges include four counts of committing a lewd act on a child; one count of conspiracy to commit child abduction, false imprisonment and extortion; one count of attempting to commit a lewd act on a child; and four counts of administering an intoxicating agent to assist in the commission of a felony.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He threatened to revoke Jackson's $3 million and jail him for the remainder of the trial if he didn't show up within an hour.Senor Jackson is learning, very slowly, perhaps the most difficult lesson of his egregiously insulated life: even megastars aren't above the law of the land in which they live. His lawyer must be pulling his own hair out. Jackson is so deluded & so unaware of the idea of normal, responsible adulthood that it's pathetic to see this . . . alien (for want of a better term) . . . recoil feebly from every jab thrown his way, confused & uncomprehending.
Obviously, he can't be allowed to withdraw back into his high-security shell in order to avoid his responsibilities, & this judge seems to agree. But I wouldn't be surprised if the horrendous strain of justice kills Jackson. He's as unfit to survive it as a naked baby in a blizzard.
At the very least, it will drive him completely insane. Even the most neurotic, self-preserving minds ultimately crumble under enough force (as we've learned here on the ledge).

Hardly - at least in this instance. If most people said they were at the hospital, sick, in the care of a doctor, and actually were there (as Jackson was here), a recess would be granted, etc.
Here, this Judge refused even to talk to Jackson's doctor  and ordered him to be there in an hour, which I submit in LA it is hard to cross the street in an hour  This indicates this judge is cutting Jackson no slack and certainly not giving him preferential treatment. IMO who can blame the Judge when Jackson has behaved like an ass by coming to court late, conducting a dance a thon outside of the courthouse, and dressing like a circus act in the courtroom.

I think this boy and his family are opportunistic liars and their track record proves that. I also think these parents should be imprisoned for child abuse for letting their son have a sleepover with an accused child molester.
Note - I think Jackson is guilty but that is different than lauding these leeches for IMO setting their son up for this so they could collect.

I got that vibe, too. From what I've seen of the story, I certainly wouldn't laud their "courage". The mom was a dimwit at best, an opportunistic leach at worst. And yes, I do think Michael Jackson is a child molester.

I certianly wouldn't include the kid in that statement, but hey. It's not this kids fault that he grew up with such f*ck-ups for parents, nor is it his fault for being "opportunistic" when he probably learned it from them in the first place. There's really nothing he could have done.

Perehaps - but if he is lying now on the stand - he has to share that culpability - but I agree with you in general and think this kid is messed up because of his parents.
I think that perhaps Jackson did not molest this kid and they are in it for the money - but who knows and I certainly think Jackson gave them wine, etc. Also, the brother's lying on the stand was fairly damning. In the end and afdter all of the other evidence (which is considerable on both sides), Jackson may get convicted on the booze charges alone.

Oh no, I didn't take it that way at all. Admittedly, I know very little about the parents. I've heard them be accused of being opportunistic but I haven't seen any of the data or anything, just sound bites. I was thinking that perhaps the defense was making it up like the OJ defense made up the "he was framed" scenario but I may be wrong. In any event, it doesn't change the fact that MJ did molest the kid, IMO. And like Diss said, his idiot parents (if that is what they are) shouldn't have any bearing on that.

Well, this kid should have been taken out of his parents care ages ago. That much is obvious. The abuse they've inflicted upon him is almost as bad as what Jackson did to him. I think he'll run to Mexico since they won't extradite him. Then A&E will send Dog The Bounty Hunter after him and they'll make an hour long special out of it.
I am so not kidding.

Yeah, but it's just what egg donors do, cept without the marriage.
This wasn't your run of the mill egg donor deal. The donor and recipient don't usually know each other, if I'm not mistaken. Dissention is right, she sold those kids. And look what she sold them to. She must have had some idea.

I guess. But to donate eggs to Jackson? I just think she has to be screwed up.
 I guess. She probably thought he was more regular, then....people are often easily fooled into thinking people are other than what they turn out to be...

I know she sold them, but I think that was the plan from the beginning, a la egg donors. No, it wasn't exactly the same as that, but I think the result was supposed to be the same. ANd it was.

My God, they had some good jokes on about this today:
- Calling him "Jamma Jackson"
- Comparing his late arrival to Cinderella arriving after midnight
- Mentioning that if the accuser was really smart, he would point to Jamma and mention how those where the PJs that Jamma was in when he was molested
I can't WAIT to see Leno tonight!

They described his penis, which evidently resembles a barber pole from the bleach he uses all over his body. It would be difficult for them to know such a thing. They shouldn't be seeing his penis under any cricumstances. Forgive me for putting it so crduely.
I think it is widely known that his penis has apparent and identifieable markings
But and in any event, even if Jackson molested this kid, I think this kid was a setup by his parents. Whether the kid is also culpable or he was just a pawn remains to be seen.

The details have never been leaked. The boy must have been pretty explicit and on the money in his descriptions for all this to have happened.

At his age, I would never call him "culpable," especially considering the fact that he used to get the **** beat out of him, suffers from cancer, and would probably go along with anything his mother or parents asked him to do in order to please them and possibly avoid beatings. He certainly isn't old or mature enough to be "culpable."

I'm sure most of his adult life, Jackson has not had to do anything he didn't want to do. These little stunts he is pulling is a show of that, how he just doesn't feel like going to court. Living in the lap of luxury, everyone goes on YOUR time. Now he has to follow the judge's time.
He is like a small child.
My mom is 46 as well. She was born in 1958 just like Micheal. I find it amazing that he is almost 50 and the things he does. The way he talks. How he can still blame a childhood that he should have gotten over by now ( sorry I have had a ****ty childhood and I'm 27 and over it...)
But there is NO excuse if he touched those children. I think we need something bigger and harder to totally show me he did as much as they said. I think he IS sick. I think he did use magazines and alcohol ( which is bad enough IMO) but did he go further and perform the acts? Is he even comfortable enough sexually to do that? Or was it all fantasy and games?

I knew them from gossip  Plus, it is not entirely impossible that this bunch of crooks are conspiring with the first family. In any event, I am glad someone is putting a stop to Jackson even if I do not agree with the method.

According to Tatum O'Neal, he wasn't even into girls when he was a young man of twenty. I think it's very telling to go back and look at him over the years, taking Webster as his date to award shows or having little Brooke Shields tag along with him. The first glimpse we ever got that he's supposedly a heterosexual male was when he started the Lisa Marie debacle and that was only ten years ago, right after he was first (publicly) accused of child molestation. There's no doubt in my mind that he's into little boys, but I won't chalk it up to him simply being a pervert; I think he has incredibly serious and deep psychological issues.

Gossip is different from detailed facts. I can say with 100% accuracy that the actual details the boy gave the police regarding Jackson's genitals have never been leaked, only that his genitals were discolored.
As for them conspiring with the first family, that's grasping at straws a bit too much for me.

Do a big internet search, you won't find any concrete details from any reputable sources regarding the marks and discoloration on his genitals. All you will come up with is the fact that his genitals do, in fact, have marks and discolorations. That's it.
Where did you hear the details of the boys interrogation and from what sources?
In any case, I cannot believe that we are having a discussion based around Michael Jackson's frank and beans.

I did not hear it on the net - I head it around the time of the first allegations, which was WAY before the net was anything at all  But, I cannot say what I heard is 100% accurate - though the source was very reliable - because I have not seen Jackson's penis and I was like 27 then, which was way way way too old to get a glimpse

No - I agree with Diss that his issues go beyond simply being a pervert...he's obviously a very disturbed, dillusional and just messed up individual - I mean he sat in front of a national tv camera and swore he'd never had plastic surgery  I mean wtf!?! ...he's totally wacked.....
He needs some serious help...for that reason I think it would be to his detriment to simply lock him up in a jail somewhere- he should be in an institution where they can give him extreme and intensive psychological help

I don't understand why his handlers haven't done an intervention. I know they're getting paid handsomely by M.J. and they don't want that pleasure cruise to dry up, but doesn't at least one of them have the humanity to take him aside and try do something to stop this behavior? They know that he's molested children, I'm sure of it. Maybe they all need to gang up on Michael put him in a straight jacket, and toss his ass into the nearest mental hospital.

MJ is a pathetic individual. Hopefully they will force him to get psychological help even if along with it they have to put him in jail. Michael is sick and delusional. It strikes me that he is not mentally competent enough to stand trial. If he did molest the child I am not sure he was aware of what he was doing or its consequences, and I am sure he was not considering the effects of his actions on another person.

They're idiots. They obviously lack the foresight to realize that if Michael is in jail there is no more gravy train anyway. If he were well that would equal more money. Duh.
