I just talked to Alex on the phone, and he wanted me to get on here and post about what happened to him yesterday. He just got out of the hospital after slicing open the back of his leg from knee all the way down his calf (I think that is what he said...he sounded heavily medicated). Anyways was in surgery for 2 hours, they had to clamp his muscles? Sorry, we talked for like 2 minutes and he wasn't all there. So he will be in a wheel chair for 2 weeks. ANd he told me to post to all of you that he misses you and will talk soon.

Thanks Becky. I got the news about a half hour ago. Today has been just bad news. I just found out that one of my best friend's father passed away today, too
I'll have to talk to Alex later tonight. What an awful thing to have to go through.
I'll have to send him a nice package in the mail.

Hey guys,

I just spoke to Alex and he is doing a bit better. He is just kind of sad about the whole situation. He said that he would be posting something tomorrow.

today has been nerve wracking for me since my Mother had major surgery done (She's fine...Will be in ICU for a few days) so between 3 of us (Older sis Lesa, My older bro Geary & myself...Even oldest sis Christy called Lesa to check in, Cant wait to talk to her on the phone) we have been bouncing emails & phone calls.

Oh well, Come Thursday will be able to relax & unwind since Deb & myself are goin' to the Keith Urban show in OKC.

My ex did this to himself with a box cutter - it was scary. But it sounds like Alex's is even worse. :distress: Alex, I hope you're okay and have a speedy recovery.

Hey there everyone!

First off, thank you for all the get well wishes from EVERYONE. i was teary-eyed sitting here reading them. The last 48 hours have been testing to say the least and appreciate everyone's concern.

Sunday night, I walked into the garage (without the light on, lesson learned) and I forgot there was an empty fish tank I had finished cleaning on the floor. Needless to say, I ended up walking RIGHT THROUGH the fish tank. It was dark, and I felt no pain. I felt warmth on my lef, and I realized what I had done. Well, I ran in screaming and my mom, who is a doctor, covered the wound and was crying b/c she thought i hit an artery. There was enough blood on the floor to sicken the average person. Well, by midnight I was rushed to the local hospital, where they determined the cut (6 inches long and 1 and 1/2 inches deep diagonally down my left calf) was too big to be taken care of in the ER. They called in a surgeon and had me x-rayed to make sure there was no glass in my wound. From there I went into the OR, where I was knocked out. Turns out, the cut missed EVERYTHING MAJOR and the doctor says that if lightning only strikes once, I should never play the lottery again, cause I got my second chance. If the glass had hit the artery, God knows if I'd be here at all, or without my leg.

I was released from the hospital last night, and I am at home now. I am wheel-chair bound for the next week, then I start physical therapy and a run with my crutches. There is 100% recovery expected in 2 months, but until then it will be a slow process. All in all, I am very thankful to just be alive and have my leg! God knows it could have been alot worse.

Now part of my worry is, that I'm down to about 190 pounds from 255 in Nov, so I have to watch my diet to make sure I dont gain any weight from being confined in the wheelchair...but right now thats probably the least of my worries. I just hope my last 3 months of dedication can hold out a little longer.

I'll keep you guys up to date in my recovery, nd I appreciate the well wishes! Thnak you guys so much for all those kind words. You have no idea how much happiness they brought me!

Much love to you all, and Im thinking about ALL of you,
~Alex

Your explanation was alot better than mine Alex!! :wavey: Don't worry about the whole diet thing, you seem pretty determined, I don't think you will have a problem. THe fact that you did as well as you did in the past few months, I don't think a few weeks will hurt, and if it does, I'm sure you'll bounce right back. :xoxo:

Ahh, tough love from Brian, who'd have thunk it? ;) I'm so glad to hear you are doing well now, Alex. That was such a scary read hearing about your leg.

I sliced open my arm on a window when I was 18 so I can identify with the sheer terror you felt. My cut was a couple of inches from my wrist to a couple of inches from my elbow, it was also deep but it only cut the top layer of muscle. They did stitch me in the ER. I was also lucky because it just missed my wrist which, if cut, could have opened an artery and left my hand useless.

Oh yeah, and my accident was also painless. Isn't that so strange?

I am so glad you are put back together and I hope that your physical therapy goes smoothly and isn't too uncomfortable.

ALEX!!!!!!!!!

You are soooooo lucky!!!!! I am so happy for you that you will be okay in the long run!!!!! I guess, to paraphrase La Nicks, all the king's horses and all the king's men could put you back together!!!!!

Keep up with the diet and you will be better than ever!!!!!!! Also, does the injury prohibit you from upper body exercises (the straining may be too much  ) - if not, then get some dumbells (sorry I am taken  ba dum boom  )

My thoughts and prayers are with ya!

Man Alex - what a story - I can only imagine the scariness of it all....all the blood - I got weak in the knees just reading your story - and yes, you are very lucky - but I'm so glad you came through okay - and with your leg intact :)

Good luck on your recovery :o

Yeah, I figured. Just wanted to lighten the mood. :]

Alex, you are one lucky man. It's amazing you don't have any really serious damage. Glad to hear you're OK!

You should have saved that blood - as I mentioned in another thread, some chick called our clinic the other day asking us to draw her blood so she could use it for an art project. We told her no - she was really pissed. Yours would have come in quite handy! ;)
