Selling Old Jewelry

I've got some old 14k gold jewelry I want to sell and I was wondering if anyone has any experience doing this. There is a jewelry exchange in downtown Boston but I want to make sure I don't get ripped off if I go there. I am leary of eBay because they make you pay even if your stuff doesn't sell which I think is stupid. Any input would be appreciated.
