I asm unsure there is anything new here - but it is interesting to see these. Interestingly, this somewhat validates what I have always thought and said in that:
1. W does not hate gay people and is placating the Evangelicals who do
and
2. He will nominate Ashcroft for The Court.

Right. These positions have never been a secret. Why Wead felt the need to make these public is beyond me. It may be of historical importance but not yet. I say bullsh*t it doesn't have to do with his book coming out! He's trying to generate publicity for that I would say.

Probably. But who cares?
I think some of this may be to deflect GAY PROSTITUTE FOUND IN WHITE HOUSE PRESS CORPS.
Don'tcha love how they threw in the gay angle? And the pot? Makes you wonder what's going to come out next.

Ugh, you're right. It's probably a "fake news" story to divert attention.

Clinton "didnt inhale" but is lambasted
Bush refuses to even address his past drug use, and we all say "oh well?"
Clinton fools around with an intern and gets impeached
Bush fools around with a Gay Porn star and its all smoke and mirrors?
personally I think Bush's reluctance to "kick gays" is significant. Kitty Kelly was definitely ON to something.

Clinton said he did it once - and his telling of that version was the most assinine thing I have ever heard in my life  I mean does anyone believe that crap - or really care for that matter  - yet he lied anyway. To me, it is just one more lie Clinton, whom I liked despite his lying nature, told.
Conversely, W admitted to having a problem in the past with drugs and alcohol and that he was clean and sober for years. So, he clearly addressed it  I mean what do you want him to do - specifically detail everytime he did drugs  That is not reasonable nor is it really anyone's business once he admitted the problem and the subsequent correction. Thus, I think your analogy is without merit. [Edit - Mary is correct in that W did not fiectly address his past drug use other than to say things like he was a mess and he has been sober for a long time]

Please document where Bush "fooled round" with a gay porn star (which BTW the JG person was not - he was a hooker - not a skin flic star  ) on the same level that Clinton fooled around with Lewinsky. I suggest you cannot. There is no evidence whatsoever that Bush even know of this person's secret life. Though he may have, your analogy is a stretch that Bush and this guy were lovers like Clinton and Lewinsky were  Thus, I think your analogy is once again without merit.

Clinton acted like a ****ing fool when it came to the issue of smoking weed. He deserved to be lambasted just for sheer idiocy.
Bush was given a free ride about everything. His use of coke, his use of weed, his drunk driving, his alcoholism, etc. It sucks, but that's what happens when the mainstream press is in your pocket.
Clinton fools around with an intern and gets impeached
Bush fools around with a Gay Porn star and its all smoke and mirrors?
To my knowledge, Bush hasn't been as brazen as Clinton about any affairs, the "gay porn star" hasn't had his phone conversations taped, and we don't have an article of clothing with Bush's wad dried on it. But oh how I wish one surfaces. ;)

Bull****. He NEVER would even answer questions regarding his use of drugs or cocaine. He spun the question every time it was asked. Edit that statement to include simply "alcohol" and you'd be correct. ;)

touche - thus, these tapes shed light on this - but who really cares because it is not like the public does not will it stop his reelection - and even if he did abuse coke in the past, no evidence exists other than speculation that he uses now or that his past abuse had any effect in this Presidency. Thus, as I have said in the past, this issue is just irrelevant once we knew he had a substance abuse addiction but had been sober for awhile. I think he should have admitted it though.

Well, I think the election of Bill Clinton proved that the American people really don't care about the character of the person elected into the office of the POTUS. I doubt they ever will, as long as they're told what they want to hear. Sheryl Crow certainly got it right in that Member's Only song of hers.

Yeah, and he still claims he was never arrested for drunk driving and that he never had his license suspended. He also tried to claim that when you're pulled over for drunk driving, you can pay a fine to the kind officer (or as he so eloquently puts it "Do your duty") and then drive home. He sure was drunk.

I think the drug thing is such a red herring. I think if Clinton had said yes I smoked it once and it was not for me (which probably would have still been a lie) and we need to educate kids about it so when they are exposed to it they will be knowledgeable about it - he would have won respect. But, I did not inhale is assinine and insulting to anyone with borderline intellectual functioning or higher

He has admitted to the drunk driving:
The GOP nominee, who has made character a central plank of his campaign, spoke a day after he was forced to admit that at age 30 he had been arrested for drunk driving in Kennebunkport, Maine, pleaded guilty, paid a $150 fine and had his permission to drive suspended for 30 days.

I also think the D's were idiots to play this this way. I think the American public could have cared a less what he did 30 years ago.

Read my post again, I never said he didn't admit to the drunk driving. :wavey:
I particularly love how they say he admitted to being arrested when he never admitted such a thing. He has continued to maintain that he paid a fine on the spot and was allowed to leave. If you can find ANY quote where he admits to being arrested or hauled off to jail, I'll pay you cash money. Because there are none.

Bush: "I told the guy I had been drinking and what do I need to do? And he said, "Here's the fine." I paid the fine and did my duty...."
Reporter: "Governor, was there any legal proceeding of any kind? Or did you just -- "
Bush: "No. I pled -- you know, I said I was wrong and I ..." Reporter: "In court? "
Bush: No, there was no court. I went to the police station. I said, "I'm wrong."

"Just after the governor's reelection in 1998, Slater pressed Bush about whether he had ever been arrested. 'He said, 'After 1968? No.'
Meet the Press, 11/21/99
Tim Russert: "If someone came to you and said, 'Governor, I'm sorry, I'm going to go public with some information.' What do you do?"
Bush: "If someone was willing to go public with information that was damaging, you'd have heard about it by now. You've had heard about it now. My background has been scrutinized by all kinds of reporters. Tim, we can talk about this all morning."

I fail to see the distinction between admiting the arrest and admiting the conviction?
From http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/11/02/bush.dui/ (emphasis supplied):
"I'm not proud of that. I made some mistakes. I occasionally drank too much, and I did that night. I learned my lesson." Bush said he was not jailed after the arrest. "I told the guy (the arresting officer) I had been drinking, what do I need to do? He said, 'here's the fine.' I paid the fine."
The arresting office confirms this  I also think the "'here's the fine.' I paid the fine." thing could refer to I paid the fine later, etc., like you do a traffic ticket - but he could have paid it that night. But and in any event, this quote:
He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour charge, paid a $150 fine and had his driving licence suspended for "a period of time".
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/1004736.stm indicates the matter was not swept under the rug - I mean if that happened, there would have been no payment of a fine and no suspension of his license
