I heard SDMHA on the radio here in St. Louis...followed by the DJ saying that he heard Stevie was doing a solo tour this summer!!!!

I doubt she would tour before she had an album out, although I surely wouldnt mind...However, I presume it's just another DJ spouting out info that has no backing like usual

I've heard some bits here and there...nothing concrete. Even though she doesn't have anything to promote persay, anything is possible and i'd love to spend the summer seeing Stevie a few times  I'm sure as time goes on and things are finalized, we'll hear more if it is in fact a go.

well, talk on the town says she might go solo
:wavey: Hi, I don't think I've ever posted before, but I lurk occasionaly. I'm in the DC area and I heard this a few weeks ago and searched for more info hoping to prove it was right. The DJ just mentioned it a few minutes ago, again, and she said late spring/early summer and hopes to find out more info soon.
Anyway, I'm Amy, I used to post on burnish quite a bit. I'll try to stop by more often. And if I hear anything I'll let you guys know.

It's either "prance," or break her contract. I'm sure they've been all over her to put out a new album but I think she'll do what she wants to do. Maybe she will break her contract and eat a ton of money but I have a feeling she'll tour at least twice more solo and I do think once more with Fleetwood Mac.

Her TISL tour rider is on the Smoking Gun, not her record deal contract... if she had an album out this Spring, that would be something amazing that's for sure...because that would be damn quick..lol.
Fleetwood Mac signed only a 2 album contract for SAY YOU WILL, so do we know that she signed a long contract when she signed to Reprise for her solo career? Perhaps she only signed a 2 album contract as well

Exactly. If I remember correctly, it was a three album deal for which she received a rather large advance. She's locked in. I don't know if any major record label would sign an artist for one album unless there was some sort of special circumstance.

As far as we all know, Stevie hasn't even entered the studio yet so you can be sure that there won't be a new release anytime soon..and while she isn't a studio hermit like LB, she does tend to take her time recording.
As far as touring w/o a CD, Stevie did the Timespace tour before the collection was even released. In fact, "Sometimes It's A Bitch" was released as a single the week she wrapped that tour up in L.A.
Sooo...it is possible that we could see her on the road this summer.

and while she isn't a studio hermit like LB, she does tend to take her time recording. She isn't a studio hermit like Lindsey because she has no reason to be a studio hermit. She doesn't personally lay down all the tracks or do the vast majority of the engineering & production work on the mix.

Sometimes they don't even know it, IMO. Artists should let themselves the chance to change their mind. And even if it was really their last tour, I'd prefer to live the moment freely without being saddened by the thought that I would never see them again onstage.

I have a feeling she'll do one more album and buy out. I don't think she wants to be forced into a time line that I have a feeling the label is trying to push her into but I could be wrong. She took a lot of time out for Fleetwood Mac so i'd imagine the label was on her ass about that as well. As far as Lindsey is concerned, I doubt the label will give him much because unfortunately, as we've discussed, he's not marketable enough as a solo entity. I wasn't aware he had any contract...does he?

That whole scene is absolutely astonishing.
I seriously question his oft-stated desire to release music.
Labels sign contracts with most artists pinning them down to a certain number of albums during a time period. With Lindsey, most of the contract is probably taken up with exhorting him to release at least something during that time period. I swear. He's like a character out of an Ealing comedy.

I really don't understand him. If it was just about the music and not about the finances, he would have released his album with another label. Warner Bros. and Reprise aren't going to give him the kind of money i'm sure he'd love to have. They didn't on the tails of The Dance and they're not going to do it on the tails of the SYW tour and album.
I still wonder if and when we'll get something out of him.

Speaking only for my local summertime 'shed' The Jones Beach Ampitheater here in New York, we got LOADS of artists on the bill each summer who don't have anything new to promote. Their shows have become traditional here each summer, for example: Crosby, Stills and Nash, Santana, The Beach Boys, The Monkees, The Allman Brothers Band, Yes (or Anderson/Bruford/Wakeman/Howe), The Moody Blues with a symphonic orchestra, etc.
That being said, why shouldn't Stevie do a short Memorial Day to Labor day summer shed tour of some greatest hits? I shudder to think that perhaps the tour list will be predictable but you never know, she might dig up some more obscure tunes.
And maybe her hip and asthma will be better, and she will wear THE BOOTS

I don't think touring is part of a record contract... just the number of albums "owed," and the general time-frame in which they have to be delivered.
I think the artists also agree in the contract to promote the releases, but that promotion (to the best of my knowledge) does not necessarily have to mean touring.
Stevie's just a stage-dweller from the old school, and seems to feel the need to tour in support of every release. Each. And. Every. Release.
But I don't think it's ever been a contract requirement for her to do so.
If she really does have an album prepped for release in Late Spring/Early Summer (and I've heard rumours about a fast-tracked album), then it's possible she could do a quick Summer tour, and then head back into the studio with Fleetwood Mac (if THEY'RE ready).
Frankly though, I wouldn't be the least bit disappointed if she didn't tour for the next album... whenever it may be released.

But if the album doesn't sell as well as they thought it would, where are they going to make up for the loss after they already paid an advance? She'd have to tour.
As far as I know, Fleetwood Mac toured for as long as they did because they didn't make as much as they'd hoped to make with the new album where sales are concerned.

I've always been under the belief that the artist toured, A: to help promote the album, and B: to earn additional money above and beyond album sales.
If their album doesn't sell as well as they hoped, in relation to the amount of money they were advanced to record it, then, yeah, they have to pay the advance back (again, if I understand correctly)... but that doesn't mean they absolutely have to tour.
Quite a number of artists... Carly Simon, for example... have released multiple albums over the years, with very little touring.
Plus, I have a feeling that Fleetwood Mac was advanced WAY more than Stevie ever would be, because they have a much higher potential draw.
Not to mention the whole double-lengthed album thing, which apparently spiked costs.
I assume Stevie would stick to a standard 12 or 13-track release.

Her ticket prices for TISL were actually pretty reasonable from what I remember. Didn't they top out between $60-$80? I'm too lazy to go check my stubs, but that seems to be fairly standard these days. If recent history has been any indication though, she really should stay away from sheds -- she has gotten bronchial/respiratory illnesses and had to cancel or postpone dates on both of the last two tours that involved sheds. Besides, she's not really selling out 20,000 seat amphitheatres as a solo act anymore. I would think smaller indoor venues would be better all around for both her and the fans.

If she toured smaller venues, imagine how much the promoter would have to front. Her ticket prices would have to be out of control for her to make money back from fronting such an intimate venture (which i'd love to see her do, btw).
I don't want her touring sheds not just because they suck but like Tiff said, think back on the issues of this past year with Fleetwood Mac. She was having a lot of problems with the changes in climate. She can't possibly put herself through that again in the middle of summer all across the country.

The 'Kansas Coliseum' is a modest sive for todays arena standards..... It seat about 9,500 people for a concert. And I know damn well that Steive Nicks would sell well in Wichita, everyone I talk to would see her. Radios would be all over it. Or she could play Century II which seats 5,400. I mean thats no bad, She would definatly sell that one out. So c'mon Stevie, If you do tour, Don't leave Wichita out. she hasnt been here since 1983 (YES SHE WAS HEAR. IT ISNT LISTEN ANYWHERE THOUGH. Many sheds hold more than arenas though, especially when you only do an endstage arena show...most of the time that only holds about 9000-12000 people, of course varies depending but many sheds hold upwards of 17000+ , they just usually have the big lawn , and if it doesnt sell out it still looks packed..
Record companies work out so many different deals, it's no telling what they have worked out...sometimes they will give an advance on a release, and take the hit if it doesnt do as expected to cover the advance...instead of paying them per cd... I mean they usually cover the advance, if it sells over 500,000 copies...I have no idea what their advance for the SYW deal was, although Forbes called it "lucrative," and we know it was more than Interscope offered...I doubt it was anymore than 10 million...which would have been covered by album sales...especially since they didnt blow money in high budget music videos..
I asked John Kinney about this , and of course he said "I cant give any official info on this yet, I will keep you all posted." so who knows
I too think she should do some smaller venues, and maybe a few sheds..but she could do arenas...you can arrange an arena anyway you want and block off seats if it doesnt sell well with curtains...many bands do it

In New York area.....Paramount Theater (that's below Madison Square Garden), Radio CIty Music Hall, Beacon Theater, Apollo Theater...all these are mid-sized type venues of below 10K seats. As a matter of fact, our 'shed' on Long Island the Jones Beach Ampitheater used to be only about 10 thousand seats until Tommy Hilfiger put his name on it and now it's doubled in size (and, in price too).
A truly great fantasy NY location to see Stevie? Out on Long Island there's a place called The Westbury Music Fair. It's a rotunda, with a slowly rotating stage. Maybe 2,000 seats, but every seat has a superb view and the sound is always wonderful. Attracts an eclectic roster of arts each year, from oldies (like Johnny Mathis or Connie Stevens, or Jay Black and The Americans), to R&B (like Gladys Knight and Patti Labelle), to Folk (Irish Chieftans, Judy Collins) and of course comedians (Gallagher!). They even do children's shows and plays!

I would much prefer small indoor venues and would definatley pay the price...it would be worth it!!
I happily would too, but I have to start to save right now.

Stevie at Westbury would be great. Saw John Denver there once and also Willie Nelson.

I already have!! Before I ever heard anything about her touring, I stashed away $500 from my tax returns....just in case!

How do you know it never happaned?
What? Because she never came to our area for the TISL tour, that's how I know.
I concur with the small indoor venue idea, I've been hoping for that since she got sick on the TISL tour. We have several possibilities here, I'm sure most cities do. I saw Cyndi Lauper here at UB's Center for the Arts last year. One of the best shows I've seen - ever. The setting was so intimate, I loved it.

Okay, sorry.
"rumours" that Stevie is finishing work on her upcoming solo release, And will tour behind this release as soon as late spring...So who knows
there are always a lot of rumours but Stevie doesn't seem to work quietly or quickly these days, so considering the amount of time she's spent in Hawaii since the tour ended and that we know she might have had written some songs she hadn't really worked on them in any professional way......I seriously doubt she would have anything ready to release by this summer.
I think a tour is a possibility but I don't see a new cd released by this summer with no leaking of info and it's March.

Maybe she has a supersecret and perfectly working recording studio in her Hawaii house? Just a wish :D

But I will be surprised if I see her next solo release being released on the Reprise label...Something tells me that Sanctuary will be in the picture (Who just signed Robert Plant this week)
Sactuary is the ****. They know what they're doing and actually turn a profit. Shocking, eh?

If she toured smaller venues, imagine how much the promoter would have to front. Her ticket prices would have to be out of control for her to make money back from fronting such an intimate venture (which i'd love to see her do, btw).
They wouldn't have to be out of control, she'd simply have to take a smaller paycheck.

and just think, Sanctuary was started by the 2 managers of the metal band Iron Maiden (The first band I collected ALL of the merchandise there of, And I am still forever a loyal fan) Rod Smallwood and Andy Taylor
Maybe Stevie could pull a Robert Plant type tour of smaller venues. Mr.Plant is kicking off his tour on March 11 in Tulsa at the legendary "Cain's Ballroom" and his next show is at the smaller sized "Coca Cola Event Center" in OKC.

Sanctuary has a pretty big roster these days...I for one have always thought Reprise was crap, anything under Warners IMO is crap...but the band seems to stick with them, I guess because they pay better..
Sanctuary has among it's many : Blondie, Cranberries, Janes Addiction, Widespread Panic, Kelly Osbourne, Kiss, Megadeth, Crosby/Nash, Christine McVie, and of course The Mick Fleetwood Band lol.
I dont know how their record sales have done, but they seem to let the artists have control..

Just curious if anyone knows how the whole Warner Music Group thing works now..I know this has nothing to do with Stevie in particular but I'm just curious. Warner Music Group is considered one of the "big 5" record labels...and they have all these sub labels like Reprise, Atlantic, Rhino, Elektra, and Maverick, and Warner Brothers Records....but all of these seperate entities of Warners seem to have their own control, but yet you hear them refer to themselves as "we are Warner Brothers.." I don't really get how the whole Warner Bros. thing works....are Reprise and others ran seperately, or what?
Maybe all that made no sense, sorry..if anyone could help thanks! lol

Kelly and Mick.......doesn't Mick's manager Carl Stubner run/own Sanctuary? I thought he did.
JMO, I don't see Stevie giving up WB unless Howard could convince her to leave WB, even then I'd think she'd be afraid of leaving them.

I agree they all seem pretty content with WB...Probably because they get paid well even though their records don't sell too too much anymore...Although the Dance did very well for them..
It's interesting...Sanctuary does marketing and merchandise for Beyonce, so they do a lot of side projects too...
