Jake W. his ass. Why.

In Wendigo. Hot sex scene with Patricia Clarkson. I drooled.

you think Gretchen's voice is thin, right? A little, but not too bad. Keith Urban is, technically, cute but i don't like him. I do like his hair, though...

I'm not an Urban fan, either. Wish he'd shave. Don't like Gretchen's music, but she's not too bad. And she's pretty.

like for her, no (Deb's a fan of Loretta's older music, I respect the woman for her longevity only)...

Sad to see her be one of the "Sympathy Votes" this year along with Ray "Wonder Why I Won These Awards After I Passed On" Charles & Brian Wilson (Brian Wilson winning for instrumental is a joke...He should win as a vocalist, But will that happen? Hell no cause the Grammies are nothing but a f**king popularity contest for music critics!!! As I have said EACH & EVERY year since 1992-F**k the Grammies!!!)

Nah, I think it's one case of them FINALLY awarding the deserving album. There was no contest, Loretta left everyone in the dust. You can feel that album in your soul when you play it. It's amazing.

yes, she is, lips a bit thin, but still fairly pretty. By the way, I'm watching Green Day, and I don't think they're lip syncing. And he's always jumped around a lot while giving a vocal performance. That song did kick ass, though.
and he didn't jump around much while he was singing. Yeah, i'm inclined to think it's real.

Makes no difference. Madonna's songs aren't hard to sing and she's lip-synched with the best of them. The vocals, when compared to everyone else's, were crystal-clear and right up in the front of the mix. He even got lost a little towards the middle of his lip-synching.

Grammy's are tonight? Oh yay. Which means that the usually scarce amount of decent programming will be absolutely non-existent. Guess it's time for a marathon of good tv on DVD. Only question is, do I watch Blackadder or Queer as Folk?

Will check the winners online tomorrow. See if Modest Mouse won anything. Love Good News. Saw them do a live performance on some Comedy Central thing, -- sucked. Oh well. At least I knew Isaac Brock was actually singing and not pulling an Ashlee Simpson.

Overhaulin', Oprah, now bad jokes about each other on the Grammys...

I'm afraid I have to agree. Those two are starting to border on overkill. And just think, we have a whole Lance themed album to look forward to in the spring. Yipeee.

And furthermore, what's up with that fugly dress Sheryl?!!? Ugh. She is such an attractive woman, why did she wear that?!!?

And the hair, she needs a warmer tone. That blonde is getting on my nerves.

Loretta Lynn is f'ing fabulous!! Jack White was kinda creeping me out with his gothic country, bug-eyed look but I like him. He's an awesome musician/producer/arranger and it's obvious that he has respect for and works with the best musicians. I love that he worked with Loretta. Damn. You go, Melissa. You? Go.

Here is a quote from her and a link to the site where you can see the video!!!!

On my way back.

" Hello there boardies! I just wanted to give you a quick hello and tell you I am doing fine. I recieved my last chemo treatment (yuk) 3 weeks ago. I am on to radiation and then I will be done with all of this. It has been quite a journey, one which I could not have done without the love and support of my sweet wife Tammy. Be sure and tune into the Grammys on Feb. 13th (I think that's the date...chemo brain) for a little surprise, but I warn you...I am bald. Yep, all of that fine full dyed blond hair is gone. It will grow back, slowly. Thank you for all of your well wishes. See you soon. Melissa"

http://members.chello.nl/~s.marcellis/News2.htm

She seemed very winded in parts of that INCREDIBLE performance. I mean this woman has been undergoing chemo and radiation therapy, which essentially almost kills you with poisons that are trying to kill the cancer. My hat is off to her for surviving it much less having the stamina to give that hell raising performance - I, too, cried onm seeing it.

As is my love of John Mayer and modern-day Stevie Nicks. :(

Yes. Their music is a pain in the ass to sing. Bono is easy, though...since off-key seems to be his mojo.

Oh, Bono. That performance last night was painful. That intro was unbearable. And Vertigo? SUCKS. How did the video for it win over Franz's Take Me Out video? It's no contest which is better and more original.

I? Am bitter.

Yep - I can't stand John Mayer - don't know what it is - I didn't mind him when he first appeared on the scene - but I hated Your Body is a Wonderland - I find that very statement very juvenile and the song just made me cringe - and now his stuff is all starting to sound exactly the same to me  I don't get him I guess :p

Daughters sounds like something someone like Paul Simon would sing, not a punk in his twenties. What an old song for him to sing, let alone write. I found it very...creepy and odd.

But if people enjoy it, who am I to bring them down? Enjoy it. :)

Overall, I thought the Grammy show was the best ever (the only real "downer" was that God-awful song...or should I say, PERFORMANCE...by J-Lo & Marc Anthony...J-Lo can't hit a note to save her Latina butt...and unlike her butt, she was singing FLAT...the dissonance was making me ill. And, as a disclaimer, it had nothing to do with the fact the song was in Spanish...not singing in key is a universal faux pas).

I've been a big Green Day critic the past few years (why, I don't know, since I really haven't listened to them really, just kind of ignorantly jumped on the Green Day-basher bandwagon...maybe because I'm not really in their fan demographic)...but they impressed me quite a bit last night. I've been clueless regarding Maroon 5 (again, I'm not even close to being in their demographic), they impressed me, too. Well, I was impressed by ALL (except the above mentioned abboration) the performances (I thought there were a BUNCH of "jaw-droppers"!)..and kudos to U2 for NOT performing "Vertigo"...I'm already burnt out on that song.

Southern Rock thing...because he's the next generation of "Southern Rock" (Like Keith & Gretchen)...what is considered "Country" these days IS basically what "southern rock" was in the '70's.

"Live Like You Were Dyin'" because the song was nominated

The "Across The Universe" Tsunami benefit tune...they had somebody from every genre...he was the "country" ambassador. (Oh, I get it...You're just Beatle bashing again!!! Shame on you! Especially when it was for a good cause!)

And, why not, 2004 was Tim's year...let him have some fun AWAY from Faith for a little bit, eh? At least we didn't have to sit through HER singing.

Green Day Tests Grammy Censors

Sun Feb 13,10:34 PM ET Entertainment - AP Music

By DAVID BAUDER, Associated Press Writer

In true punk rock fashion, Green Day tested the censors at the Grammy Awards on Sunday — and the censors were ready. The Bay Area rockers, on a career high with their "American Idiot" album, added a shot of rock 'n' roll adrenaline by performing the title cut. The disc won the Grammy for best rock album.

The song includes a prominent obscenity in one of the lyrics, but the censors were plainly prepared and neatly excised the word. They couldn't delete, however, singer Billie Joe Armstrong's pointed political reference to not wanting to be part of a redneck agenda.

Green Day was energetic and confident, a band that's grown up but hasn't left its punk roots behind: witness the smoothly practiced leap and landing from the riser by drummer Tre Cool. And Armstrong was a live wire.

By the way, what's up with trios that expand to quartets onstage but pretend the other member doesn't exist? At least the camera operators didn't completely ignore the mysterious fourth member on guitar.

I don't love Tim McGraw, don't hate him either. But I never realized before last night that he truly can't sing. Truly.

I so wanted the Southern Rock tribute to be good, and parts were. Gretchen started out way off, then seemed to get it in gear. Tim - ugh. Keith Urban was very good.

I saw Fiona Apple's video for her remake of Across the Universe a few days ago (from the Pleasantville soundtrack.) I fell in love with it. But this group thing was atrocious. Good lord.

And why, oh why, did we have to see 87 shots of Ellen & Portia? Yes, they're gay, they're a couple, we got it. What the f*ck do they have to do with the Grammy's? They got more screen time than Lance & Sheryl - and who would've thought that was possible?

My grammy reactions....

Franz/BEP/Gwen Medley: Couldn't stop laughing at the lead singer for Franz's haircut. The song sounded wierd, too. Black Eyed Peas need to shut the mouth. Gwen was ok...boring.

U2: Love that song on the album, but the performance was boring and Bono didn't sound very good.

J-Lo/Mark Anthony: WHY and also WTF

The Southern Rock Tribute: Sounded horrible. McGraw and Gretchen Wilson were completely off.

Tim McGraw: Did we really need another performance by this guy? The song blows.

Alicia Keys/Ray Charles Tribute: Butchered "Georgia."

Green Day: Kicked ass! NOT LIP SYNCHING, DISS. :p I refuse to believe that. Billy Joe sounded live to me.

Queen Latifah: Loved it. Love her.

Melissa Etheridge and Joss Stone: Melissa rocked! She was amazing. And while I don't care for Stone, she was good too.

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE SOUNDED LIKE ****.

John Mayer: Can't stand to watch that freak sing! And the song is terrible.

Usher & James Brown: UGH.

Bonnie Raitt: Amazing.

Actually, her album from '98 is pretty phenomenal and even rawer than her early stuff, if that's possible. It's like she looked at her last three big hit albums and said to herself that she wasn't doing that again. It's truly raw.

There's a greatest hits comp out there called "The Bonnie Raitt Collection" with all of her early stuff before she hit it big with Nick of Time. It's worth getting for her duet with Sippie Wallace on "Women Be Wise."

I'm listening to her 1973 Takin my Time which has Cry Like a Rainstorm on it and is a must have IMO. That one doesn't seem to be on "The Bonnie Raitt Collection".

Green Day won for best rock album and behaved less punk than Tim McGraw, obediently thanking its label, radio and a bunch of other boring people nobody cares about. Prince had enough sense to stay at home, despite winning for best male R&B vocal performance and traditional R&B vocal performance.

Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez made their live debut together on a stage designed by Bed, Bath and Way Beyond with a script provided by the soap opera writers at Telemundo, while Tyra Banks and Hoobastank lured Maroon 5 into certain obscurity with the cursed best new artist trophy.

Kanye West attempted to justify the hype surrounding his album "The College Dropout" by acting out his death, funeral and embrace with Jesus (whose name he cleverly rhymed with Kathy Lee and Regis) during his performance, before walking off with the award for best rap album in style.

I really can't believe she did that. Maybe she is on drugs. Was Gavin with her BTW?
I can. I actually think it wasn't that obvious, she was mostly smiling until that little "eye expression w/lip curl" sneaked in at the end. She was trying to be gracious, her face is just too expressive. :xoxo: to Gwen, from Amber

It seemed to me like she was expecting Los Lonely Boys to pay attention to her, like try to shake her hand or something so she could be the gracious loser. When they didn't even notice her, that sneer came out - gracious loser be damned!

I don't think so. It's possible, I guess. But...for all we know she coulda found something in her teeth right then, I thought the whole thing was pretty subtle. I would definitely be a Gwen apologist, though, I love her, and thought whatever it was, it was funny. (if not very cool).

I thought Gwen was lip-synching. I think Green Day was definitely live. I am not a fan of theirs, really, but I actually said out loud, "Damn, they're tight - I'll give them that." Across the Universe could have been better - and would have been had they rehearsed more. Steven Tyler's timing was off a bit - and everyone was obviously reading a teleprompter for the lyrics. Alicia Keys can do no wrong in my book. I continually highly recommend both of her cds. The girl is awesome! I don't think Sheryl was wearing panties w/ that dress! How could she?

And finally - opinions are like a-holes - everybody's got one:

I sat through all three-and-a-half hours of the 47th Annual Grammy Awards telecast last night and I don't have a single song running through my head, which tells you something about the music that is popular enough to win accolades from the financially lagging mainstream recording industry.

I probably wasn't the only one who wanted to bail during the woeful opening medley, featuring execrable performances by Best New Artist winners Maroon 5, Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand and pop/hip-hop divas Gwen Stefani and Eve, all strung together by the truly annoying "Let's Get it Started" from the Black Eyed Peas. But stuck in the middle of this mess was the refreshingly musical Texican brother trio Los Lonely Boys with their hit "Heaven."

Grammy Awards Get Lowest Rating Since '95

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer

NEW YORK - From J.Lo to James Brown, Usher to U2, the Grammys (news - web sites) had it all this year — except a lot of interested viewers. An estimated 18.8 million people watched Ray Charles' swan song clean up with eight awards Sunday night, a startling 28 percent drop from the 2004 Grammys.

After two years on an upswing, Grammy ratings sunk to their lowest level since 1995, according to Nielsen Media Research. It may be an ominous sign for the granddaddy of awards shows, the Academy Awards (news - web sites), Feb. 27 on ABC.

People at CBS and elsewhere in the industry were somewhat perplexed by the numbers on Monday, given that the show was jam-packed with performances and star power.

"This was the show to beat in terms of how it was produced," said Shari Anne Brill, a television analyst for Carat USA. "It was just great. It wasn't about someone handing out awards. It was about performances. Viewers who didn't tune in missed a treat."

The Grammys, which has a long history of being derided as the Grannies within the music industry, even drew an endorsement from one of pop's potentates. "I think this is the best Grammys we've ever seen," U2 lead singer Bono said as the group accepted an award toward the show's end.

It was a continuation of a recent Grammy trend of minimizing awards presentations and maximizing live performances.

While there were misfires — the cacophonous opening number where several acts briefly played different songs all at once — there were plenty of thrills. Alicia Keys' smoldering "If I Ain't Got You," Kanye West's resurrection, the duet between Usher and Brown and songs by Green Day and U2 all come to mind.

CBS spokesman Chris Ender noted last year's show benefited from Janet Jackson (news)'s Super Bowl fallout. Controversy sells.

Brill agreed: "Don't you think if Michael Jackson (news) did a duet with someone with his trial going on, more viewers would have come?"

ABC is also much more competitive. "Desperate Housewives" had more viewers than the Grammys in the same time slot on Sunday, Nielsen said. But there was little evidence that many people switched over to the Grammys when "Desperate Housewives" was done.

Charles' big win could have been a hindrance, too. While a music legend, his best work may have been a mystery to many young viewers. Since he died last June, viewers were denied heartwarming scenes of him basking in the glory.

It continues a trend of less-than-stellar ratings for awards shows.

The Emmys last fall had its smallest audience ever. The Golden Globes last month had its fewest viewers since returning to broadcast television in 1996, down a whopping 10 million people from 2004. The 12.9 million people who watched the American Music Awards in November was a distant echo of the 48 million who tuned in two decades ago.

"I'm wondering if there are so many awards shows that they have lost some of their specialness," Brill said.

The Academy Awards, frequently the year's second-highest-rated entertainment event after the Super Bowl, usually considers itself immune from such outside factors. But big-box office films tend to juice the ratings — the Oscars (news - web sites) haven't approached the 55 million who watched when "Titanic" won in 1998 — and this year has no dominant film.

Host Chris Rock may draw in the curious, particularly with his unique brand of promotion. The Internet's Drudge Report on Monday was circulating excerpts from a recent Entertainment Weekly interview where Rock said, "What straight black man sits there and watches the Oscars? Show me one!"

ABC has been more aggressive promoting an event that usually sells itself.

I was like "why the f*** didn't we see this kind of rehearsal through the whole damn doc?! " And I thought their bitching was minor compared to what they could've shown, an all out angry fight thingy. That sounds great. That's the thing about some people sucking as musicians, though, if you know them, and you're all just having beers and such, you can't help but say something. But there's been lots of times where I kept my mouth shut, and still enjoyed the process immensely, like you say. (though it can be slow. I used some of that downtime to play in my head of what should be in the song. :p )
Either way, I am always jealous and want a studio and want to know what to do with it and how to play a bunch of instruments. That's one of the ways I really relate to Linds. I can see being locked in the studio, totally absorbed, for bazillions of days. How fun!

Just a general comment, not really directed at you.
But I've often thought Stevie's Bob Dylan comment was blown out of proportion. Stevie never said her talents COMPARE to Bob Dylan's... only that, much like him, she writes in a particular style which doesn't always follow the "rules." And that no one tells Bob Dylan that he needs to follow those rules, so she'd prefer to not be told either.

I bought it off iTunes a few weeks ago! They had it on the front page.
