FM:
You and I, part I - The high "you and I" is awesome, I love that!
Monday Morning - He's sounds so sexy!
Big Love - Sexy on this one too.
Tango in the Night - Whispy vocals during the verses, then, that sexy voice during the chorus. Oh man.
Down Endless Street - It's a unique vocal...very choppy and cool. I don't think many people like this song. :(
WMYTYTO - Wierdest Tusk vocal...and I love it!
Red Rover - "and the lips you were kissin'....night after night..." Oh man, hits like a shot in the heart.
Solo:
Bwana - Wierdest Law and Order vocal...and I love it!
Time Bomb Town - Wierdness personified. I hated this song as a kid because he sounded wierd to me. I also thought he was Hispanic as a kid, for some odd reason. Now, one of my fave songs. :)
Holiday Road - His deep, Elvis-influenced type of voice...gotta love it.
You Do or You Don't - He does this wierd breathing while singing thing. Wierd...also, the ending with Theme from A Summer Place...classic.
Street of Dreams - Emotion at it's highest from Lindsey.
Don't Look Down - The harsh vocal of yelling "Don't look down!" along with the soft vocal on the verses....greatness.
Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind - The ending is insanely great.
GOS - Insane laughing...awesome. Tusk wierdness proportions. LOL
Shadow of the West - I can't even explain his wierd vocal. His voice is extremely deep throughout the song. Love the harmonies with himself and Christine.
Shuffle Riff - Just for the way he says tarantula.
She Smiled Sweetly - Whispery vocals...always nice.
Fritz:
Louisa Joy - My fave of the Fritz songs. His voice is high, powerful and awesome!

Beautiful Child - That ooh, ooh, ooh.....KILL ME NOW!! LOL
Isn't It Midnight - "face of a pretty girl".....yeah.

I like the TITN era Lindsey voice the most. I think he was in his prime then regarding the singing.
Christy, I bought the Family man single back then just to get Down endless street. The song sounds cheap due to the cheap synth sound production but it has great potential. He used this cheap synth sound for a couple of song during that era (f.e. Family man or Soul drifter, which is no wonder as he has stated that he wrote that one during the making of Tango) However I like his singing on Down endless street. I am unable to select a favourite song so I picked an era.

I almost don't need to make a list, since I agree with all that are listed above (I deleted the ones that don't do it for me), but let me add:
"Tusk" from the Dance - omg his voice is so low (a real change for him) and has a certain ominous sound to it that is both scarey and sexy as hell.
"(I Won't Be) Too Young" his duet with Walter Egan on the Malibooz Rule lp - if for no other reason than the way he sounds when he sings the line "just like a spring I'm wound up too tight." Omg. I love it!

"HER voice"?
Uhm, Jason... are you sure you're in the right thread/forum?
Gosh, I have SO many favorite Lindsey vocals, and most of the ones I would have named, have been listed already anyway.
But I'll add the 'Live In Boston' version of "Tusk,' simply because that maniacal laugh of his at 1:25 into the song is to die for.

I think his best vocals come from the early era - "Without A Leg To Stand On", "Frozen Love", Fleetwood Mac's take on "Crystal", "Monday Morning" and "Second Hand News" being my favorites. :)
As far as backup vocals I must say I LOVE what he did to Tom Petty's "Walls (Circus)". Terrific.

Down Endless Street is a good vocal performance IMO.
Time Bomb Town is one of my favourites. His singing is so paranoid. The whole song is way paranoid! The vocals are not only weird, they're wired!
I like the contrast you get when you listen to two things back to back. Like the performance of "Holiday Road", and "Come". Two completely different songs, requiring two completly different vocal performances

Harmony: Everything. BC. Lindsey. Live Harmony. I Wept. And I Could say that over and over about Lindsey's harmony vocal skills. It never ends. Great Harmonies/Vocals with anyone or no one. But to be able to KICK IT OUT like that with Stevie???? Priceless.
As For the Rest? Lindsey's vocals, to me, when I like them - It's too hard to pick a favorite, because it is inextricably (?) intertwined with his guitar playing, sense of rhythm, lyrics, and production on the song. It would take me a good amount of time to compile a list of every favorite Lindsey vocal, given the aforementioned factors... :woohoo: I can think of probably at least 10 - 15 within 20-30 seconds. :)

As far as backup vocals I must say I LOVE what he did to Tom Petty's "Walls (Circus)". Terrific.
Have you heard his vocals on "The Man Who Loves Women" from TP's "The Last DJ"? I absolutely LOVE that song (but then again... TP only trails behind LB on my fav list by a hair) although LB's vocals are... how should I say it?... a bit shocking to the ears on this one. (I'm not saying they sound bad at all, but to hear his voice so clearly on a TP song is just odd) On "Walls" they were a bit more subtle. Still, it does sound great and I highly recommend "The Last DJ" especially for "TMWLW" and "Joe."
Bring me a girl, they're always the best
You put 'em on stage and you have 'em undress
Some angel-whore who can learn a guitar lick
Hey, now that's what I call music! - TP, "Joe"

That album is superb. Tom Petty has more talent and integrity in his pinky than most artists will ever have. He's a class act. I especially love When Money Wasn't King, though I'm glad Lindsey wasn't on that one at all because the irony would have been too much to bear.

Yes, couldn't agree with you more. While some artists feel the need to constantly change their sound and style - Petty never has (well, almost never - 1987's Let Me Up (I've Had Enough) was quite a departure, and consequently didn't do very well). I guess that just means he got it right the first time.

It's true, though. My particular favorite interview from this past tour was when he feigned ignorance over the ticket prices for the Mac shows, trying to say tha the didn't knwo how expensive they were. What ****. Petty is essentially singing about Fleetwood Mac in that bloody song.

To me, it isn't so much that he hasn't changed his sound or style, it's that he can still sound interesting and fresh with the same sound and style. Whereas many other artists sound tired and forced, he never does. And even if I didn't totally adore him, I'd have to pay respect for the simple fact that he had the balls to record that last album of his and for the incredible respect he shows for his fans. It's truly refreshing. I remember back when Hard Promises came out and he got into quite the scuffle with Warners because they wanted to increase the price of the album and he said hell no.

The two tickets I bought to see Petty on his Echo tour (Didn't get a chance to catch any of The Last DJ shows) cost me less than ONE FM ticket.

Ain't that the truth! The last two times I saw him in Boston, I paid way under fifty bucks for tix and was only a few rows back from the stage. I have much more respect for artists like Petty, Blondie, and Sheryl Crow who go out on tour not just for the money, but for the thrill of it and for the fans. The cashing-in factor really repels me like you wouldn't believe. I was heartbroken to see Bowie go on a Clear Channel tour (*weeps*), but he hasn't done a big tour in so long that I'll forgive him. Saw him on the Heathen tour quite a few times for under thirty bucks. And when artists play what they want to play instead of a greatest hits show? Love it.

Amen to that! I usually find (for the great artists, anyway) that although I may be drawn to an album because of the singles, it's usually one of the other tracks that I end up liking best.

I'll second that. Have every one of his albums to date (the U.S. releases anyway) and have been a fan since I was eight years old.
On a side note, I was heartbroken when all hopes of a Traveling Wilburys reunion were dashed with the death of Harrison. (There had been talk of a reunion prior to.) Somehow I think a Petty/Dylan/Lynne record, although it would be wonderful, wouldn't have the same magic. :(

That's why I wouldn't pay to see the Mac this past go-round. I have no desire to pay over a hundred to hear them play Dreams and Go Your Own Way for the millionth time. A few new songs added doesn't do it for me, I hate the canned speeches and rehearsed movements, and I really hate how they're so fake. They must have gone mad playing the same songs every ngiht, I know I would. If other artists can change the set every night, why can't they?

Well, I've already mentioned my experience with people who have crushes on me - one particular instance anyway.
But in case Mammary Man wasn't creepy enough, here are some more examples:
There was another guy who stalked me around the mall one day because I was wearing a Doors t-shirt. He finally came up and asked for my phone number. I saw him once after that - he smoked like a chimney, lived in a travel trailer on his parents' property, claimed he had a twelve inch c*ck, and said he believed that the apocalypse would happen at the end of the milennium (I met him in '99) and he planned to get really stoned and kill himself right before midnight on New Years Eve. Oooh baby!
I wonder if he ever went through with the plan?
Then there was this other guy who kept writing all these sick letters to a friend of mine talking about how he wanted to have an orgy with her, me, and her then fiance in the lot behind the local Walmart. Oh yeah, that's rrreeeaaalll sexy.

Down on Rodeo.
I know it's my name - but then I suppose I chose it as my name for a reason! I agree with Lux on SGCYM in terms of vocals. Basically I'd rate his GOS/SYW stuff as his best vocal work.
Other picks are: Peacekeeper ACLU version, and Love Minus Zero.
For background vocals I vote WISYA (the end is my favourite part of the song), and Illume (they're at low volume but are really powerful and help to stregnthen Stevie's equally powerful vocal line).

I really love his Dance era vocals ( Big Love, Go Insane, ISA, etc.) His voice sounds deeper on the Dance cd ( well to me anyway).
I like Red Rover, Come, and Steal Your Heart Away from SYW
DOR, SGCYM, and She Smiled Sweetly from his "unreleased stuff"

You mean his death wasn't tragic in itself? Oh the misery of dashed hopes simply because Harrison opted to die on us. Tsk tsk. I'm teasing, incidently.
The death of anyone is tragic (well, almost anyone, see my views on the death penalty). :(
But to be honest, I'm not big on the Beatles and the Wilburys is the only other project of Harrison's with which I'm really familiar. I only know maybe two of his solo songs and while I enjoy them, I never really had the urge to seek out anymore of his work.
So while his death may have been tragic in the way that anyone's death is tragic, the only loss to me was the dashed hopes of a Wilburys reunion.

Just wanted to say I love your signature pictures of Blackadder, Victoria! My favorite pic of Rowan is the one with the gotee.

Thanks a bunch. I adore the entire Blackadder series. Without a doubt (IMO) it is the funniest show ever. I have the whole thing on DVD and I watch it frequently. I also have "The Whole Damn Dynasty," a book with the scripts from all four seasons. My friends and I are forever quoting it just in regular conversation. I've also had two Blackadder shirts made - one with the "private parts" quote (see my sig) and another that says "exquisite floppily doppilies" across the chest. :D
P.S. - Rowan Atkinson isn't exactly a sexy man, but there's something about him in his Renaissance garb w/ that goatee that is very appealing. But then again, I'm a Ren Faire geek, so ya know.

and the crush begins to fade...
I absolutely LOVE that song. I love it on Gift of Screws, I love it on SYW, and I can't get enough of the live version. I even had a t shirt made that says "Come" across the chest and "Can You Feel the Fever?" on the back. I get some rather puzzled and sometimes offended looks when I wear it. :D

Eh, I like it live, but it's torturous on the album. Pure swill. :o

We'll have to agree to disagree. It's one of my all time favorite LB tracks, following not too far behind "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind."

okay, I'll put in my $.02:
"Oh Diane"
I was listening to this the other night and I guess it hit me how great his voice really sounds on this song...and it's not a favorite of mine, I never even really liked this song before. I guess I have a whole new appreciation for it now.

I like it. Especially the verses, with the "think of me sweet darlin's". Plus the fact that its so sexual is cool IMO :D
