Ok, list your favorite live versions, not the entire shows but specific songs you loove to see or listen again and again. For example...

-Tina Turner - Proud Mary. She makes this song really rocks!!! The slow beginning and then.. the electrifying dance!

-Queen - Love of my life. A romantic song perse. And in its live version Freddy hypnotized the audiences when they sang with him.

-Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs. The eye contact between L&S is thrilling. We have seen it thousands of times so maybe we are tired of watching it but... it is beautiful anyway. And Stevie sings it so emotional

-Peter Frampton - Show me the way. I think I have heard the studio version no more than twice. Definitely the live version was meant to be a legend.

-Cheaptrick - I want you to want me. Idem. Was there even a studio version??

-Sting - Roxanne. I guess it was a solo performance by Sting in a concert (I think a benefit one, does anyone know?) during the 80s when he sings very nice and slow this song. I'm not a fan of him but I love his voice in this performance.

-Cher - If I could turn back time. Well, any of Cher songs from her latest tours are great, but in this song she gives a special touch. And audience goes mad!

-Fleetwood Mac- Rhiannon from "Fleetwood Mac Live"...love the classic total rock version of Rhiannon. It's just not the same now-a-days.

-Fleetwood Mac- Songbird from "The Dance"...Christine's (IMO) best performance of this song.

I used to love that version, well I still do, put it really PALES to some bootleg live Rhiannons. I believe Rhiannon is the greatest live song EVER, with Sisters of the Moon being a close 2nd. Here's my list, I'm not going to be specific and am only refering these songs at their best. Rhiannon may be a shodow of its former self now, but that shouldn't hurt it's older incarnations from being best live song ever. And the whole list is Fleetwood Mac songs.

1. Rhiannon
2. Sisters of the Moon
3. Green Manalishi
4. Come (Brand new but no denying it's greatness)
5. I'm So Afraid
6. The Chain
7. Edge of 17
8. Gold Dust Woman (best Current live Stevie song)
9. Silver Springs
10. Beautiful Child
11. Hold Me (love it so much live, dislike the studio version)

"Big City Night"-Scorpions

"Comfortably Numb"-Pink Floyd

"The Thing That Should Not Be"-Metallica

"Eyes Of The World"-Some band???!!!

"Time Stand Still"-Rush (w/Aimee Mann)

5. I'm So Afraid

YES!
I think some studio versions, though good ones, are not the best expression of the song, but then the performer hit the target in a live version. So Afraid, in my opinion, is in this case

Not GYOW, both live and studio versions are superb.

Everything Talking Heads did sounded better live. Burning Down The House and the rest of the Speaking In Tounges album especially got a great makeover live.

I just popped it in to listen to X Offender. I LOVE that version. And I can't help but get up and throw my body around my apartment like a crazy four year old and thrust my hips in a vulgar fashion when she sings "I think all the time of how I'm going to perpetrate love with you."

Yes...there was...

My live favs...

Yes, "I Want You Too Want Me" :)

Elton John "Take Me To The Pilot"

It's not necessarily one of my favs, but "Freebird" live BLOWS AWAY the studio version...

Pete Townshend's Secret Policeman's Ball Album.

When I saw/heard the Page/Plant thing on MTV several years ago the WHOLE THING
blew me away...I was also amazed how darn good they were when I saw them on the
following tour...

"I Don't Need No Doctor" - Humble Pie Rockin' The Fillmore

Oh my, how COULD I have forgotten that one!

I get into moods where I'll just keep that on "repeat" for like an hour:):):)
Steve was THE BEST!!!

And actually when I think about it the Dominoes record proper and Rumours
are probably my two favorite albums of all time...

Pink Floyd - Shine on you Crazy Diamond.

Led Zeppelin - just about everything was better live.

U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday & Bullet The Blue Sky.
Pink Floyd is my father's favorite band... He's always like, "Poor Syd. Whatever happened to
Syd..."
"Shine On" & "Wish You Were Here" have made me weep on occasion.

Also been a U2 fan since pre-Boy:)

However, while it's cool for you with Led Zep live, at the risk of starting an intercontinental battle,
until the Page/Plant thing several years ago, I was never fond of the live material... I'm so not into The Song Remains The Same:(

I must be the only one who loathed that performance.

I love Under Pressure with Gail Ann Dorsey. They're just phenomenal together on that song.

 Bad boy ;) .I love it. Musically and visually they were magnetic and the audience was so captivated that responded to every gesture from them, it was like a display of yin and yang combined. The rehearsals in the studio were great too. With David in a full dandy status (as always), with a light blue jacket, and a cigarette in his hand and Annie Lennox in black pants, white shirt, and leather vest. Before starting he was goofing around but as the band played the first notes he fixed his beautiful flirty eyes on her and Annie, who was a bit tense at first, immediately relaxed  . It was already clear they were going to be magic onstage together.

The whole Live at Budokan album (extended version) should be mentioned here. It's one of the ten best live albums ever in my opinion.

I RARELY listen to the '70's "Progressive Rock" genre anymore, but I remember Emerson, Lake & Palmer had their 3-LP live set Welcome Back My Friends..., which was pretty hot. Especially, "Karn Evil #9" and "Tarkus".

Gentle Giant's live album Playing The Fool was really good, too.

The early Genesis Live when Peter Gabriel was still in the band (and Phil Collins had just joined) was a progressive rock masterpiece.

And, of course, the 3-LP Yessongs by Yes was awesome.

In the years hence, King Crimson has released some live material from the early days when Greg Lake was in the band...which I hear from a couple of friends, who are STILL into the '70's progressive sound, are "just amazing".

to the modern progressive rock, Mainly Dream Theater (Who toured this past year as opening act for Yes and released the great 3 disc "Live At Budokan" set) & Nightwish (Great operatic female vocals in a genre dominated by male vocals)

I grew up on Yes, Kansas, King Crimson, Rush, U.K. (Allan Holdsworth guitar playing is sick!!!), ELP and the like...Just prefer the newer progressive artists due to better production values of the recordings.
