For fans of Tina Turner she has a greatest hits package coming out with at least one new song and will be performing on the Today show tomorrow! :D

She said this morning that she may do an "easy" tour but not likely a long tour. She still looks great at 65! Bless her heart and those legs! :)

I hear she's going to be on Oprah Friday.

I used to be about as obssessed with Tina as I currently am of Stevie. I don't like the Euro-dance-pop-adult contemporary direction she's taken in the last few years...I prefer her earlier bluesy/soulful self. Even parts of Private Dancer are too slick for my taste.

I may get this CD...I have her earlier 'best of,' but I only got that because it's about the only place you can get the original version of "River Deep Mountain High." I wonder if it's remastered for this new thing. I've heard clips of the new songs, and they sound like fluff, except for one that sounds like it might be interesting.

I wore my mother's copy of Private Dancer out when I was little. Her cover of Bowie's 1984 is still one of my all-time favorites.

Meh...that and 'Steel Claw' are the ones I don't especially care for. I could probably do without 'I Might Have Been Queen,' too. Everything else on it is greatness. :)

I also really like her 'Foreign Affair' album, which was a hit in the UK/Europe, but not so much here.

'Wildest Dreams' I sort of liked, but when I heard "When the Heartache Is Over" from that last album, she lost me.

I didn't care for her last album, it was crap. 24/7 and Whatever You Need were the only songs I really enjoyed off of it.

Her vocal on 1984 is phenomenal and I love the way she sings the second verse. But I'm biased because that's one of my favorite Bowie songs anyways. :D

I love Foreign Affair, too. And I love the re-recorded songs on the soundtrack for What's Love Got To Do With It, almost as much as the originals.

Nah, she's like Blondie in that regard. They were both always MUCH more famous and popular across the pond than in the US.

I'm a HUGE Tina fan, and I'm expecting the new best-of set in the mail any day now (Thanks, amazon!).

Her last couple of albums have been hit or miss for me... I usually love about half of the tracks, and then I'm indifferent to the other half. I don't hate any of them, they just don't knock my socks off.

'Private Dancer' and 'Break Every Rule' share the top spot for me as far as her best albums go, and then the soundtrack to 'What's Love Got To Do With It' is in second place.
(I've heard rumours that 'Break Every Rule' will soon be given the remastered/expanded treatment like 'Private Dancer' was a few years ago. I really hope that pans out, as there were several great non-LP b-sides and extended remixes from that album.)

By the way, am I the only one who LOVES "When The Heartache Is Over"? I think it's pure pop bliss. :D

When I was in high school, I wanted to *be* Tina Turner. :D I even wanted to frost my hair for a while, but living in northern Louisiana...that wouldn't have been a smart move.

I liked Wildest Dreams...there were a few songs I thought were just stupid, but it's far from a terrible album.

I thought Break Every Rule was even slicker than Private Dancer. It has a few songs I like, but most of it I could do without. A remastered/expanded version might be interesting, though.

Foreign Affair and Private Dancer are probably my favorites, along with a lot of the old Ike & Tina stuff.

By the way, am I the only one who LOVES "When The Heartache Is Over"? I think it's pure pop bliss. :D

I don't like dance/club music, and that's what this song more or less is.

Yeah, when you're growing up someplace like Louisiana, you don't want to give the school jocks any additional reasons to play B.T.F. :distress:
Good thing you avoided that!

I liked Wildest Dreams...there were a few songs I thought were just stupid, but it's far from a terrible album.

I kind of forgot 'Wildest Dreams'! But, yes, I really liked most of that one too... especially "Something Beautiful Remains" (which is on 'All The Best' too!).

I thought Break Every Rule was even slicker than Private Dancer. It has a few songs I like, but most of it I could do without. A remastered/expanded version might be interesting, though.

I tend to like albums that other people consider to be "too slick"... I guess I've just always dug "glossy" production.
Of course, it has to have HEART AND SOUL in order to really capture my interest. If it's just slick for slick's sake, then I don't like it... but I like Fleetwood Mac's "slick" and I like Tina Turner's "slick," because of the other elements the artists bring to it.

The thing that disappointed me about Tina's latter albums, was that the material seems weaker in many cases. I also like when she gets a little "rawk" vibe going, like "Steel Claw" or "1984."
They're still slick, but they KICK ASS.

I don't like dance/club music, and that's what this song more or less is.

I couldn't live on a diet of dance/club music, but I like it now and then. For me, when it's good, it's really, really good.
Plus, some songs are just plain irresistable, no matter what genre they are... and "When The Heartache Is Over" is one of those songs, to my ears. :D

I can definitely see why you like 'Foreign Affair'... it's easily her most bluesy, R&B-tinged album since the Ike & Tina days.

I loved "When the Heartache is over" too. So, that makes two of us. I do agree with some of the songs on the later album but I feel her deut with bryan adams on 24/7 made up for the lack of quality tracks.

I've seen her twice in concert and both times I was blown away. I don't think of her much as a recording artist but as a live performer. I'd kill to see her if she goes on tour again. "Proud Mary" of course, and on her last tour she did a scorching cover of "I heard it through the grapevine."

The only song I despise is the "Baby I'm a Star" song from the Target commericals a couple of years ago. It's a great song to exercise too, but just a little repetative. Plus I got the message on foriegn affair. She's the best! :]

Meh...

I saw her on the Today show this morning. I think she's more or less lost her voice. I first suspected as much when 'Wildest Dreams' came out...her voice had lost a little of it's range. I remember some of the promotion she did for that album...Oprah, SNL...I thought she didn't sound very good. And it's just gotten worse. Her performance on that Divas Live thing was kinda sad. Her singing just doesn't have any of it's former power.

And who the hell is giving her these new songs? 'Open Arms'?? It sounds like a boy band reject. (At first I thought she was doing a cover of that Journey song...now, that would've been interesting).

I got her new greatest hits a few weeks ago and was pretty underwhelmed by the new songs...same goes for her last album. I love all her other ones though.

Private Dancer is probably one of the greatest albums by anyone! I never really listened to all of Break Every Rule until recently. I'll Be Thunder is so phenomenal I'm kicking myself for never really listening to it before a few months ago. I'd say it's on par with Private Dancer as her greatest song.

Steel Claw and 1984 are both sheer greatness

Hmm, well I think I've used the word great enough times in one post :] But how else can Tina be described :)

Yeah, it's definitely not the kind of "knock your socks off" kinda song you'd like to hear from Tina when she's been away for so long.
It definitely suffers from banality, but it's a harmless enough little pop song with a nice message.

Interestingly, Tina says she hated it the first time she heard the demo... told her manager that she's done this kind of song before, and wanted something more exciting.
But she liked the producer they hired to work with her, and says she's very pleased with the result. So I guess that's what matters most!

I have such a wellspring of love and admiration for Tina, that it's just always great to hear and see her... so I can deal with it if every song isn't as thrilling to me as my favorites from her. :)

Have you read Rolling Stone's review of it? I want to know what kind of punk kid they had reviewing it. He had the audacity to say that Open Arms is right up there with her rock classics from the 80s. He needs to put the bong down.

I haven't read that.
It's definitely not up there with her best 80s material... but I'd say it's as good as, and, in some cases, better than a lot of her 90s tunes.

Our local pop stations have been playing it, and the DJs have been talking about it in nothing but glowing terms, too.
I doubt it'll be one of the songs she's remembered for in the coming decades though.

But, hey, if she gets good reviews for it, I won't complain!

Tina's 'All The Best' is debuting at #2 on the charts this week! :blob2:

From an E! Online article:
Tina Turner, benefiting from appearances on Oprah, Today, Live with Regis and Kelly, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and CBS' The Early Show, landed the week's best bow at number two as All the Best sold 121,000 copies.

Turner's new hits two-disc anthology, spanning her stint with ex-husband Ike to her Private Dancer days, is her highest ever debut on the Billboard 200 pop chart. Her lead single, "Open Arms," one of three new tracks on the album, is in the Top 20 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

All the Best also got a big boost from java junkies. The disc is the second major album carried by Starbucks, which became a major music player with Ray Charles' multiplatinum Genius Loves Company.

Go Tina! :D

Now dont forget my fave Viva La Money from the Diamond In The Rough 78 album lol. Those record company morons who wouldn't sign her solo until 83, WTF were they thinking?

Tina is huge for me 2. Saw her 5 times each on her last 2 tours and once in 93 4th row center. Through her fanclub I was 2nd row twice, and front row center for my hometown Nashville in 2000 :). I bought the tickets through the fanclub and didn't have to pay any ticket master fees :).

That new song Open Arms SUCKS! Anywho 2 of her best most forgotten songs in my opinion are Break Every Rule (the song) and Ask Me How I. Feel from FA. Show Me Some Respect live blows the studio version out of the water.

She looks great, but kids shes had breast jobs, nose jobs, teeth capped, original eye lift in 92ish, her faces appears to be more tight and pulled back now then when I saw her face to face in 2000. Her skin looks great, maybe shes had some type of chemical laser peel thing too, not sure. But kids shes had a face lift.

Didn't she get a nose job after Ike used her face as a soccer ball? I don't blame her. I don't think she's had all that work done, especially the tit jobs, though. From what I hear, she's pretty obsessive about taking good care of herself. I think she's a fan of the non-surgical face lifts, her face has that look to it (like Susan Sarandon). Both look gorgeous...

And though I hate to use these ****ty blobs, I have to give props to Tina for hitting #2 right out of the bag.

I'm liking "Open Arms" the more I'm hearing it.
'All The Best' has been in heavy rotation in my CD player since I got it, and it seems that every time I turn on the radio (which is at least once a day), I hear "Open Arms."

It's still never going to be my favorite song... but it has grown on me since the very first time I heard it (which was actually last November, or so).

"Break Every Rule" is one of my favorite tracks, and I'm really bummed it was left off of 'All The Best.'
I prefer the mix they used for the video, and wish I could find someone to transfer the audio from my 'Simply The Best' DVD to .wav or .mp3, so I could burn it onto CD.

"Ask Me How I Feel" is pretty damn terrific too.

She has so many great songs, it's amazing. :D

If you look at the Foreign Affair 1990 concert tape you can notice she had wrinkles around the eyes. The next time we really saw her was in 93 when she was promoting Whats Love. Not only were the eye wrinkles gone(this was before botox was mainstream) her eyes look pulled up and smaller like shes asain lol.

I love that one, too! :D

That's one of the Tina songs that I turn up to high volume and BELT when no one is looking. That and "When I Was Young."

Girls is one of the songs I can be heard just randomly belting out each day. Love it to pieces and it really makes the whole Break Every Rule album for me. I love to belt all her songs, though.

I've been playing the What's Love soundtrack all week; I love the rerecorded versions almost as much as the originals.

Oh well, she's still stunning. And has one of the most gorgeous bods and pair of legs I've ever laid eyes on....

Check your PMs. :wavey:

I have a hard time listening to anything Ike touched, so I always prefer the re-recordings and live versions of the older material better than the originals.

Have you read his ****ty book? I got it, read it, ripped some pages out, then brought it back so that he didn't get any royalties.

You are so bad!

But, no, I never read it, and have no intention to. I have no use for him.

Ike is good for comedic purposes though. I always loved when David Alan Grier would impersonate him on 'In Living Color.' Especially in one of the "East Hollywood Squares" sketches, with Marc Wilmore playing Isabel Sanford.

"Isabel! Girrrl, you sound HOT! Can you take a punch?"

Omigod, I loved that!!! DAG was so funny, and he has my B-day ;)
But then, I almost always think it's funny when someone makes fun of Ike. It's just such fertile ground...

I grew up in Nashville, lived there for 23 years. It was a known fact that he was staying in Nashville often in the late 90s. Thank GOD I never crossed paths with him. If he had been seated in at a table I was waiting on at the time I wouldnt wait on him.

Ike is such a piece of human filth that I can hardly comprehend it. The book was basically him just saying hwo they both smacked each other and did drugs, but that no one was ever beaten. He's so full of ****. By all accounts, Miss Tina *never* took drugs. The mother of one of my friends in high school saw Ike and Tina when she was twenty and said that he reeked and stunk up the place, but that Tina was pristine and gorgeous.

I would have gotten a piece of cake and force-fed it to him like he did to Tina. Sick puppy.
