View Full Version : Who is not a solo fan?

Ok, I was answering the threads about songs I dislike and then I realize (well I always knew) that I don't like solo albums

I do like some Chris, Lindsey or Stevie singles. Specially Stevie's but maybe because she had more solo albums.. And I have all Lindsey solo albums and some Chris (1) and Stevie (1 plus Enchanted and Timespace).. but... I'm not crazy about them.

So I don't like their albums. Not as I adore Fleetwood Mac albums. In fact I wasn't excited about buying last Chris album. I thought about it, but at the end I didn't.

Now, of all solo albums I have, what I like most? Out of the craddle, and the one I dislike most? Go Insane.
So I consider myself not a solos fan.

I am without a doubt a HUGE fan of Stevie's solo work. LB & Chris - not so much. Sure, I like a song here & there, but not like Mac or Stevie where I obsess with the entire album.

I'm a big fan of Lindsey solo, I'm lukewarm when it comes to Stevie, and I have no interest in any of Christine's solo output.

I am a big time Stevie solo fan as well as FM fan - Lindsey - well I do have two of his albums - I like his solo stuff - I have one Christine album on vinyl - I've never actually listened to it - by far she's my least favorite solo-wise :D

I love Stevie's solo works. I also enjoy most of Chris and Lindsey's solo albums I have, but can't say they really won me over.

Christine solo - no f*cking thank you.

HUGE fan of Lindsey's solo work, as well as Danny. Lesser fan of Stevie's solo work, and even lesser fan of Christine's. LOL I prefer those two with FM, I suppose. I do have Christine's 1984 album on LP (listened to it once) and I don't own ITM.

Huge Stevie fan... Not a big fan of Lindsey's work. And Christine is okay. I love her one song "Love Will Show Us How" but I never really listened to anything else

Since I'm a die-hard Christine McVie fan, I have all of her solo albums & all of her Chicken Shack albums too. I have no real interest in Stevie solo albums. I only have 2 of her albums. I like Bella Donna though. I have TISL somewhere, but I haven't listened to it in quite a while. I have 2 of Lindsey's 3 solo albums, but don't really play them very much anymore. I also have Mick's first 2 solo albums which I do like. And I have 3 of Bob Welch's solo albums, which I also like although I prefer him with Fleetwood Mac.

I'm a mac-fan.

I still think every individual did their best thing in the Mac-setting. But if lindsey puts out a solo-album with Mick and John from the early process on involved it has a chance to top Mac-stuff.

I adore Bella Donna. And all Lindsey's solostuff even more. Especially Go Insane. Brave albums with balls. But nothing can top Tusk, even in bravery.

I love all the solo albums. Stevie's especially, but I ADORE 'Go Insane' even though 'Out Of The Cradle' is Lindsey's best IMO. Love both of Chris' albums.
LOVE the Bob Welch (especially 'Eye Contact') & Rick Vito solo albums.

I think it's unusual NOT to like the members' solo albums if you're big into Fleetwood Mac..I mean, yes, there ARE differences in the sound but they really are extensions of the work they did in Fleetwood Mac.

Stevie's music, especially her solo material, is what caught my ear first (and got me interested in Fleetwood Mac as a whole), and still remains my favorite. In fact, I often prefer her solo songs to her Mac songs.

But I also love Lindsey & Christine's solo albums, and the solo albums and material I have for Bob Welch, Rick, and Billy (I'm ashamed to admit that I don't own any of Peter or Danny's solo albums -- just a couple stray songs).

Put me in the Stevie solo fan category. I'm not as obssessive about FM albums, although I was anxious to hear SYW, because w/out Christine, there was room for 1/3 more Stevie. :)

I also really like Lindsey solo, but that's been a more recent development. Christine is my least favorite of the three, although I did finally break down and get In the Meantime. It's not bad. :)

And I have no interest in pre-Rumours members' solo work: Bob Welch, Danny Kirwan, etc.

I like some of the Peter Green-era FM, but the Bob Welch-era, I can't stomach.

Fleetwood Mac is first by a longshot, and all members in the band are better in the band over their solo material (except in the 80's when especially Christine's 84 album was lightyears better then her Mirage crap) And all 3 3 of them had really good solo careers. My favorite solo album by far is Christine's 84 album. That album is perfection. Lindsey's Out of the Cradle is also perfection and is my 2nd favorite solo album. And despite Chris and Lindsey holding the #1 and #2 spots Stevie overall is my favorite solo career, for the simple fact, she gave us the most, and even if that means she has occaisonally given us more crap then the other 2, the good outweighs the bad.

I prefer Fleetwood Mac to any solo work. I just love Stevie and Lindsey's voices together. I always enjoy their harmonizing and the way their voices just blend together. So, when they do their solo thing, I always feel like something is missing. I do LOVE OOtC and listen to it alot. I listen to and own all of Stevie's solo stuff..I love much of it, TISL is probably my favorite along with Belladonna. I will take anything they give us at this point but really wish they would forget the solo ventures and do more Mac. (unless they can get their solo albums out quickly and move right into Mac)

I got into Stevie's solo work before I was ever into Fleetwood Mac. For awhile, I put her solo work far above everything else. But I got all caught up in the band and the different incarnations of it and have come to appreciate it just as much. I can't really say that any Stevie solo album is more important to me or will get more time in my stereo than, say, Mystery to Me (which, strangely, doesn't feature her at all!) And I don't really prefer Stevie's solo work over her work with FM or vice versa. If I sit down and come up with my top twenty favorite Stevie songs of all time, I can't leave out the Mac songs and can't do exclusively Mac songs. "Sara" is just as important as "Gate and Garden." But I can't help but recognize how much I like the production of the tracks so much more when she's with FM. At first, I didn't care for Christine or Lindsey that much, FM or solo, but both are growing on me. I guess in the end Stevie and Christine will be my favorites, though Lindsey's FM work has really grown on me over the past few months. I'm not sure that I would be into his solo work so much. I also love Bob Welch, Danny, Peter, and Bekka and Billy together, though based on what I've heard of solo material, I think I prefer all of them with FM.

I am a Stevie girl, first and foremost. I think I like her solo work more than Fleetwood Mac. Maybe just because its all her! I have never heard any of Christines solo songs, and am not interested in hearing them! I think I have heard one Lindsey solo song.

FM first and foremost--always.
When I first became a fan, I was working part-time so I was buying one CD per paycheck. I think I went into the record store to buy Tango and they didn't have it. OOTC was stuffed in the FM section (even though they had a LB section). I didn't even know Lindsey had a solo career, and I bought it. That CD had such a profound effect on me that I actually probably was a bigger Lindsey fan than a Stevie fan at that particular time. She came in a close second but when I heard Enchanted, I was a little overwhelmed, I think.
Then, things reversed themselves when I heard Law and Order and listened to Enchanted in smaller doses;-)
Now, things have pretty much evened out, although I probably would give Stevie a bit of an edge because I've heard so much more of her work than I have of Lindsey's.
I am not, however, a fan of Christine solo at all.

No, No, No. Come, Murrow and Red Rover are actual songs from his solo album, I'm not just saying they sound like his solo songs, they were lifted right from his solo album and unchanged on SYW. There are no Stevie FM songs like that.

FM first and foremost...it was the Mirage concert on HBO that hooked me...

I did the whole Stevie solo stuff for years, and would still buy her next solo album, but I find Lindsey to be much more dynamic and interesting these days.

I don't see it as an album.....just a bunch of demos and studio outtakes. Bunch them together, and you got a bootleg.

I have Bella Donna, The Wild Heart, TimeSpace and Trouble In Shangri-La of Stevies solo work, and I LOVE them all I am a huge Stevie solo fan.

No, Stevie is not on the album version of Murrow, Red Rover or Come. (I do like her on Red Rover live and think she might have added to the studio version but alas, that is not the point)
Is that true that Mick and or John are not on the Murrow, Red Rover or Come on SYW?? If so that is pretty interesting.

Also, I believe Becky's point was that she had not heard any of Lindsey's released solo work..she has heard nothing from Go Insane, Law and Order or Out of the Cradle. Becky..you should buy Out of the Cradle! You might really like it, I know I do and I am a Chiffon Head. ; > ) If you like the GoS demos like Down on Rodeo, Twist of Fate, Say Goodbye you should like Out of the Cradle. I am not a fan of his wild, extremely weird stuff and OOTC is not like that at all. It is a masterpiece in my opinion.

Yes maybe I should give it a try. I just got a Lindsey bootleg from someone...The Coachhouse S. CA 1994? I'm not sure of the date. I haven't listened to it yet, but maybe that can be my introduction to Lindsey solo :) And I do like Go Insane, so maybe there's hope for me yet!

I thought that Stevie was on Murrow and Red RoverIf she is, she was glopped on in the eleventh hour as a way to Fleetwood Mac-ize two solo tracks -- essentially the same method used on "Steal Your Heart Away" & "Miranda." Mick & John were already part of those tracks from earlier years.

"Murrow," "Red Rover," "Steal Your Heart Away," "Miranda," "Come" & some of the others were definitely finished as far as Lindsey was concerned when they were submitted to his record bosses -- those aren't demos, they're completed tracks. And they were just ported over to the Fleetwood Mac project virtually intact. I think Lindsey himself even admitted as much in some print interview.

I agree with the ledgies who say that "Say You Will" sounds like a couple of different projects. It certainly sounds that way to me: I can hear not just different styles & production approaches, but different eras in it. It's a real mish-mash to my ears. I'd use Noel Coppage's words from his review of "Tusk" to describe "Say You Will": a "fascinating parade of sounds" (although some of it isn't all that fascinating to me, either).

Some fans are saying that they're hoping for a new Fleetwood album because they want to hear the four members build an album from the ground up, together. But where's the guarantee that it would play out that way? Stevie's gearing up for more solo careering, as apparently is Lindsey. I see the "Say You Will" situation playing out once again in almost exactly the same way if there's going to be another Fleetwood Mac album. Plus, even if Stevie had an entire year or more to devote to a Fleetwood Mac project (like in the old days), I hope nobody honestly believes that woman would hang out with the other guys in a studio for that long, because there's no way in hell she would.

Taking an educated guess here: I bet Stevie hasn't spent three consecutive months with Fleetwood Mac in a studio since the Village Recorder days in 1978. And three months (a time frame I pick at random) is only about 15 percent of the time they take to complete a project.

I was a Fleetwood Mac Fan first, because I heard them together before they ever had solo carrers. But after listening to them, and of course, growing up in the 80s, I became very aware of their solo careers and projects. I was very much a fan of Stevie, Lindsey, and Christine's solo projects, especially Stevie and Lindsey's. I think it is a natural progression to be a fan of the band's music together, and after learning all about that, becoming curious about their work without the band. Then once you start checking into their solo projects, you see how they are each, seperately, a vitally important piece of Fleetwood Mac. As Bryan stated, I don't see how you could love the band and not love at least some of their solo work. Maybe, the non-solo people should give their solo work another spin and see it as an extention of Fleetwood Mac; just a small piece of the big "Mac" puzzle. Just a thought. :)

Even though only one member of Fleetwood Mac is on the goddamned tracks.

Dissy, it sounds like even YOU are buying into the notion that Lindsey and Stevie are "Fleetwood Mac"! ;)

Has everyone forgotten that Mick and John... *ahem*the founding members of the band*ahem*... are also playing on "Murrow" and "Come"?

Even if Stevie isn't singing on them, the tracks still feature two more band members than some of Lindsey's 'Tusk' songs had, and no one argues that those aren't "Fleetwood Mac" songs! ;)

I guess the thing that confuses me is that Fleetwood Mac's albums have been recorded haphazardly since 1979, sometimes with various members adding to the tracks after they were recorded "solo" (again, some of Lindsey's 'Tusk' tracks), or not appearing on them at all (Lindsey noted that some of the 'Tango' tracks feature a drum machine as opposed to Mick, for example)... so why the fuss now?

Had Lindsey's intended solo tracks been folded into a studio album by the entire band in 1997, would there have been as much fuss, given that Mick, John and Christine were already on them anyway?
If not, then why now?
Or is the complaint just the amount of years that went by between the recording of Lindsey's tracks and then the recording of Stevie's?
