It's funny that her two top songs, Talk to Me and SDMHA, are the ones she didn't write. :o

Stand Back got to #5 & Edge was like #11, I think? I don't have the Enchanted box set with me, you can find the chart info there.

well Lindsey's Trouble, and Christine's Got a Hold on Me charted higher then Edge too. But I personally don;t think chart placings mean much in the long run. Are you going to tell me that today Talk To Me has been more succesful then Edge.

I still personaly prefer Talk To Me, It is one of my favourite Stevie songs, and one of my fave songs in general, I love it, Edge is great but it never had a great WOW factor on me, unlike Talk To Me, both of them go off live though I think.

Tynan"Talk to Me" is one of my all-time faves, too. I recognize Edge as a fantastic song, but I like to listen to "Talk to Me" more for some reason.

I LOVE Talk To Me, but not the album version. I love another version that appears on the 1986 Time Life cd. Im sure its available elsewhere. The arrangement sounds more magical than the RAL version. The RAL has better vocals. Even though the alternate verion sounds like Stevie just woke up with a hangover, its still much better!

"Talk to Me' was the first single that Stevie comissioned another song writer to write for her.She had admired the number one single 'Missing You' sung by ex Baby's singer John Waite and written by Chas Sanford so it was a blatant and successful attempt to provide a big hit single for the album ,as her creative juices were drying up in a drug and drink induced haze. How she managed to later cut through the Klonopin haze to create her last truly great single herself, "Rooms on Fire' is a minor miracle .Now that is a song that should have done better than it's number 16 US. billboard placing although it was her highest charting UK single at 12.

Well, Rooms did peak at #1 on the Billboard Rock Chart. I do agree that #16 was low on the Hot 100. I'm also suprised at the relatively low charting of Rhiannon(#11), Seven Wonders(#18?), Gypsy(#12), I Can't Wait(#16), & If Anyone Falls(#12?). I'm not sure if radio didn't support these songs or were sales low or how were the charts compiled then.

I had been meaning to post this, but I didn't want to sound like a broken record by repeating information that everyone already knew or thought. Back then, the Billboard 100 (till what? 1997 I think, right when Silver Springs came out) was all based on the sales of singles. Radio play was not a factor for the Billboard 100. So, basically promotion still had to be going for the album for a single to sell. I think by the time Edge came out as a single, Stevie had already wrapped up the "short tour" and was beginning to focus on Mirage. I could be wrong, but I would think that Leather and Lace sold better because at the time of its release, Bella Donna was being promoted much more than it was when Edge came out. Then by the time After the Glitter Fades came out, I think promotion had pretty much died. That's really the only reason I could see LAL selling better than Edge, THAT plus you have to take into account the other singles that were on the board at the time. It always baffled me that Tango only hit #7 on the albums chart, but I am pretty sure around that time there were a lot of (for lack of a better term) "popular" albums out at the time. So, that's my thoughts on that.
Seven Wonders actually hit #19 on Billboard 100, and If Anyone Falls #14. I don't think those are necessarily low numbers. Anything that reached the top 40 back then was considered good, and top 20 was great.

I never ever hear Talk to Me on the radio and I hear Edge on at least 4 different stations. Edge really won the longevity award. Solo songs, Stand Back is next, then Leather and Lace and Stop Dragging...that's about it tho.

I heard Talk to Me a few weeks ago on 105.9FM (The River) which is in Hartford CT. I was shocked to hear it.
