I'll agree that it is impossible to tell, really, in my opinion too, but if I had to pick one, I'm going to have to say, in studio: "Go Your Own Way" and live: "Come."

I still don't like Come, any version. Sorry fellows.

But I love So Afraid from the Dance. I got tired of Big Love, GYOW and other so afraid live versions. They all r cool but.. please enough!!!

I really loved Never g.b.a, and Say Goodbye from the Boston DVD. New versions, new sounds..

So at the end I think each version has its own era..

It certainly is an acquired taste.

I guess it just depends on how excited he is about producing it and the effect of what he has eaten that day

Hopefully he stays away from dairy.

Well, yes, and how much of it he put out the night before also can significantly effect it the next night

I absolutely love "Loving Cup!" That solo is incredible. That is a good studio choice.

I love what he does for EOTW from the Mirage video. Pretty much the whole second half of the song!

I also always loved his last thing on YMLF right after the last vocals. It just SOARS! (Like St. Louis 1979...)

I say, tastes great, less filling....
But, I don't know if it qualifies as a solo, but i really like live Big Love. it amazes me every time. That one man, one guitar, and all that sound! Love it. Of course, I like bunches of others, too...I'll always have a soft spot for GYOW solo.

Even though it's not technically written by him, I absolutely love This Nearly Was Mine off of Out of the Cradle. That's hands down one of my favorite Lindsey guitar moments! It's so beautiful. I'd have to say that Street of Dreams is also a personal favorite.

FROZEN LOVE...hands down. He totally rocks that song.

Live it would be I'm So Afraid and his solo on The Chain.

BTW..this is not a guitar solo really but my favorite song to just sit and listen to his beautiful guitar is Stephanie. I find that song to be so soothing and heartfelt. God I wish he would do some BN stuff one day.

LIVE: "Come" from the 2003 Pittsburgh show. I think it was the second show of the tour, and so he was still trying out (improvising) different ideas for the solo. (By the end of 2003 and 2004 the solo was completely predictable and obviously pre-planned.) The solo is just so raw and packed with so much energy. The end is absolutely incredible, again simply due to the fact that it's obviously completely improvised -- it sounds insane, in the best possible way! Even the little fills he plays during the song on that night are amazing, subtle and perfect.

STUDIO: Any one of 5 or 6, but at the moment, I would say The Chain. If you tab it out, it looks quite easy for any half decent guitarist. It's not the technical proficiency...it's the fact that each and every time I hear that solo, it makes me want to drop it into 5th and put my foot down - sign of a good solo!

:D

I think the reason why we find him good is because he plays without a pick. It's not too difficult for one song, but he does it all the time

My personal favorites are big love (live), come (from live in Boston) go insane (live, haven't heard the studio version yet) GYOW & my little demon. But there are many more...

There's so many awesome ones, but I fall back on the White Album tour treatment of ISA live as the most enjoyable.

I love 'Come' live - that was awesome, as well as 'Big Love' as well. I also love 'The Dance' one of 'Go Insane.' I really do love Lindsey's voice - very distinctive and brilliant live.

Being sort of a newbie around here, I personally like "Trouble" and "Big Love".

Sounds like I am in the minority though

Electric lead solos over the years onstage . . . there are so many! I love the solo on "Rhiannon" from Osaka 12.04.77. I incorporate that into what I play whenever I play "Rhiannon." I also loved the "I'm So Afraid" solos from late in the '80 tour, especially the last two nights, as well as from Irvine Meadows in 1982.

I love some of the solos for "Rhiannon" from the '78 tour.

As for studio solos, my favorites are those from "You Make Loving Fun," "Go Your Own Way," "The Chain," "Family Man," "Trouble."

"Big love" live version ?

I dunno if I could pick a favourite solo, as I just love his playing, period. The best solo is the one I'm listening to at any given moment, you know what I mean?

He just squeezes a lot of feeling out of that axe. His trademark high note, you know where he bends the string up and holds it for 3 or 4 bars always drives me nuts, in a good way!

He does some nice licks on the Tango version of Big Love. I like it at the end where that simple guitar lick becomes more aggressive gradually, symbolising an orgasm perhaps?

You know a great solo when you hear one... If you're listening to your ipod whilst walking, you'll notice yourself start to speed up. Happens with me every time I hear The Chain or Go Your Own Way.

I would say I'm So Afraid from the later shows of this tour as well. His improvising and the way he just bangs the **** out of the guitar towards the end is awesome.

The solo from the live version of Go Your Own Way on the first Live album has really grown on me as well. It just sounds really out of control. I've been messing about with the Go Your Own Way from the Mirage Video (I like the vocals best on this one), and cut that solo and replaced it with the live album one, and apart from a very slight change in the sound it actually works really well.

"Best" is so subjective.

My favorites of his solos with FMac:

Live:
Rhiannon (1975-1979)
Green Manalishi
Station Man
Oh Well (my least favorite versions of the song are Lindsey's, but the solos are still pretty good)
Go Your Own Way
I'm So Afraid (1979-1982)
Oh Daddy (1997)
Big Love
Come

Studio:
Blue Letter
I'm So Afraid
Say You Love Me
Go Your Own Way
You Make Loving Fun
Sisters Of The Moon
Book Of Love (if they just didn't fade the song so quickly)
Family Man
Isn't It Midnight
Tango In The Night
Murrow

Solo solos:
Trouble
Shadow Of The West
Loving Cup
Play In The Rain
Countdown
Wrong
You Do Or You Don't
Don't Look Down (intro)
This Is The Time

I love lots of 'em but these came to mind...

"Frozen Love"
"Gypsy"
"Don't Let Me Down Again"
"This Nearly Was Mine"
"Family Man" (I love the guitar part...it's too bad that the song starts fading part of the way through it since it is the only part of the song that I like).

"Don't Let Me Down Again"

Definitely.

Also, "Tango in the Night", "Eyes of the World," ISA, and GYOW.
