Well, I haven't been around for that long, but where are you from? I reckon most of you are American, perhaps? I'm from Sweden, which isn't exactly the best place for a FM fan to be, can't say I ever come across many people who even actually know about FM or Stevie!

I was born in Manhattan.
My mom's ethnic background is primarily Germanic, ancestors from the Essen area. Also, one
of my Great-great grandfathers was Belgium's ambassador to Ceylon and one of my Great-great grandmothers came from Switzerland. All those folk are from my mother's father's line... My mother's mother's line is American "Old" German...with a drop of Welsh blood - Mayflower Welsh blood. I too, can be a member of that "wonderful" organization Daugher's of the American Revolution.
My father's ethnic background is primarily Slavic. Granny's people came from the Minsk area
(present day Belarus. However, one of her mother's great grandmother's came from Siracusa Sicily. I am therefore 1/64 Sicilian :) Gramps' people were what was known as Rusyn/Ruthenian/Galician what some refer to today as Ukranian.
I consider myself to be 1/2 German 1/2 Slavic with a few drops of Celtic/Latin blood for spice:)

Hey now, don't go claiming what's not yours. The Gibb's might have been born there, but The Bee Gees only became in Brisbane. It was Australia who unleashed them onto the world. So blame us, in fact what am I talking about? You can have them.

Ahh yes The Bee Gees...

In another thread on the Christine forum, I was saying how the environment played a part in peoples accents... This is also true of the rise to fame of the brothers Gibb.

They were originally from Chorlton-Cum-Hardy (don't laugh) in Manchester but indeed moved to Australia where they became famous (although they were known before they moved) but essentially it was Australia that they were launched to where they are today, so I accept your sincere apology as an honorary Aussie (you're a kiwi right?) for unleashing the Gibbs on our unprepared ears and condeming millions of men to thoughts of genital pain when that falsetto kicks in..

It's their lyrics that get to me. Mind you I like 'I Started A Joke'. They have a classic here called Spick and Specks. I don't think it did much elsewhere but it's a nostalgia piece here (or maybe it's just me who has a memory of it....?) so as much as the music does nothing for me, I can tolerate this one. Wait, I have one of their albums.....never mind. I just hate disco, although surprisingly the majority of their music wasn't actually disco.

I know Spicks and Specks.. Yes they do seem stuck in the disco era in most minds although of course they did so much more.. Two of my favorite songs are Bee Gees songs, "You Win Again" and "For Whom The Bell Tolls"..

As for heritage - 1/2 Japanese, the rest is God-Only-Knows-What. All I know is that I got the worst traits from both sides - my wonderful lack of height and near-sightedness from my father and my lovely weight problem and oily skin from my mother. Oh yeah, and a short temper from both. Gee I'm blessed!

Wow, you sound really attractive...

JK, I'm the same way. I thank my mom all the time for the large ass, oily skin & big pores. Dad gave me my bushy eyebrows. Yeah, I'm a real hottie :p

I'm one of the few Australians here and I don't think I have any Irish in me. Well I have an Irish surname but my dad was adopted so it's irrelevant. Is Irish cool? I don't know that it's that cool here but I think that's because we're basically a deformed limb of Ireland (....and Greece), a rather large one at that.

lol! Deformed limb is one way of putting it,but, yes I think Australia and Ireland are one and the same really. But to others,it seems, something as little as having a shamrock tattoo makes them Irish...and 'trendy'!

I'm a little confused. When people say their father is German, for example, does that imply that he was born in Germany or just that he has a German surname and generations earlier were from Germany?

to their Mother's/Father's ethnic background

I'm a little confused. When people say their father is German, for example, does that imply that he was born in Germany or just that he has a German surname and generations earlier were from Germany? I assumed it meant that he was born or lived there because if someone asks me my nationality, I'm a New Zealander with a Kiwi mother and an Australian father. Obviously I'm not Australian Aboriginal nor Maori.

Depends. Usually, they mean where their ancestors are originally from. As for me, my dad was actually born in Bulgaria, my mom was born in the U.S., as were her parents.
