Fricking cold. We're going to be getting a "wintry mix"/cold rain today. At least it's warmed up a bit since Monday morning when it was 12 degrees outside -_-

It's 11 degrees here and we're more than likely being put under a state of emergency. I'm supposed to be at work right now. I feel bad for shafting my coworkers but the two that are in with me today live down the road and I don't. All of our service providers have called out and I can tell it's going to be a big mess over there but i'm not driving up there only to drive back here an hour later. I'm not around the corner and take a highway to get there. I had to drive through snow on Wednesday night and it did not go well (couldn't see a damn thing) and today, it's supposed to start snowing in about an hour or two. We're in for 12-14" and evidently, 8" will be covering New Jersey by 2pm. Thusly, sorry about your luck, kids. I'm staying home.

Well at least they put you in a state of emergency. Our lovely Governer has no clue what that is and if it is still bad on Monday I won't be going to work.
Missing work makes you feel guilty but it's better then putting your life at risk.

I am going to go out in about an hour and stock up on a few things. I still have some Camden photos that I never posted so I am editing them to post later.

Hey I shafted the coworkers too. I am scheduled to work 3-12 tonight and the husband said 'no way'. I have to drive eight miles on highways and my grandparents own the place. I am staying home. I just hate driving in the snow anyway and to drive home at 12:30 AM on unplowed roads, um, no thanks.
With the Eagles big game tomorrow, the restaurant will be packed but ah well. Hopefully I can get there tomorrow night but I will not hestitate to stay home if the roads are still bad. Fire me.

If there is a State of Emergency doesn't that mean that you don't have to go to work? Unless you work in like the medical profession.
Stay home. Smart Idea.

Midnight and I'm spraying myself with water whilst sitting infront of this freaking huge fan. If somebody doesn't turn down the humidity I'm going to start smashing (more) things.

I guess that there is no happy medium. We freeze here and you fry down under. Is anyone having perfect weather? If you are I hate you. :p

There's only two of them there. I was on the phone with her this morning (i.e. 7:30) and most of the calls will be people cancelling but since a ton of stylists and nail techs, etc. called out, their books have to be called and appointments need to be rescheduled which sucks. Ah..what can you do. No way i'm driving on 295 in the mess we're getting. Local news says 16+ now. If it's as bad as they're predicting, perhaps people won't come out tomorrow (that was a total joke...you know they'll risk their lives to watch the Eagles tomorrow).

Pattie, they haven't put us under one yet but they were discussing it on the news. More than likely they will.

I expect more of the same today. I LOVE California. ps: we already HAD some nasty weather, got snow in my neck of the woods and flooding down south in LA area....

It was 70 yesterday, The temp won't make it above 40 today...Supposed to be in the single digits tonight.

The temp will be back in the 60's next week, So I can't wait.

I wished if it is goin' to be cold that it would stay cold, And the same for when it warms up.

I definately do not like the humidity either but this snow sucks. Riss is right up the road and we have about six inches now at 3:30pm. Post another picture!
Get this . I went to Hollywood video to rent something to watch while I am stuck in the house for the next few days. There was a sign on the door that said "the wait for checkout is an hour". An HOUR?!? At the video store??
After scanning the empty shelves, I decided to just watch tv or use the computer. The line wrapped around the entire store. :> ( Can you imagine?!?
Line at the grocery store was just as bad.

I remember one year at a marching band competition in Northern New Mexico it started snowing and we were all FREEZING - the people in the stands were bundled all crazy - and my friend's dad was there is this little wind breaker - he was from Minnesota and was laughing his ass off at us loser warm-blooded New Mexicans

Not this amount...at least not in a few years. Remember, two weeks ago it was 70 degrees here and now we're getting a blizzard. It's been random and sketchy this year. Two low fronts are meeting and causing some serious trouble for the north eastern seaboard and before it hit us, it hit the northern midwestern portion of the US. They're now thinking it'll be even up to 16+ here...

This is my first "real winter" ever - the part of New Mexico I lived in gets maybe a trace of snow every year - and the temp is almost NEVER below the 20s (the 20s is only at night) -so this is a big deal for me....my first snowy winter :D

The weather in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware has been ridiculous. The constant flux in temperature is a bit much for me and my allergy-infested body.

Oh, I REFUSE to drive in this and I won't but if I do, i'll be careful (but I won't  ). In fact, my father already gave the Monday work speech (i.e. if it's still miserable, too bad about work...you're not taking that car out. It's in his name so it's his...I won't argue). We have an SUV so he'll go out in that if need be but even he wasn't too stoked that my mother went into work today.

it was a beautiful day today and yesterday, but we had some snow just last weekend! I think youse guys on the east coast are getting our bad weather! So the good news is, you will soon be getting nicer weather (I hope!)

I have a question: all you folks in the regions experiencing snow, do you all have 4WD? also, I hear the snow is different in your neck of the woods...apparently ours is wetter? I dont know I was just taking the word of a friend of mine who lived for several years in the OK NE areas....my daughter who lives 15 minutes away from me (but 1000ft higher) has quite a bit more snow than I do, in fact, all of mine has melted, but there is a good 4-6ft up her way and I have friends who live 1 1/2 hrs away who have even more than that....my first time using 4WD was last winter and I was SCARED! I went down the street and realized I needed 4WD and put it in ok, but didnt know I had to put the transmission back into DRIVE! so I was slipping backwards down a hill and I knew I was in 4WD and boy did I feel DUMB when I found out what I did wrong!

Hi Patti

I am right next door to you in CT so it is definitely snowing here. I hope it calms down as I am not a snow lover. If stays bad until Monday, work will probably shut down but I don't get paid for it which stinks! :(
Be safe and careful everyone!

I don't have 4WD - many people don't - it's false security or whatever - the jerkiest people on the roads are the trucks and SUV's because they think they can do anything - well I've already seen/heard of many an accident with those dumbasses - it may help you go but 4wd sure isn't going to keep help you with stopping and stuff...

I have done fine thus far in my car - and all the other folks I work with who have lived here for years and don't have 4WD are fine

The snow here is different than what we used to get back home - that was definitely wetter and not as fluffy - though here we did get a bit of wet snow a while ago... I guess there are different kinds of snow and such...which I never knew :p

On the Weather Channel they said the colder the temperature, the fluffier the snow...

No I don't have 4WD, I have a big rear wheel drive boat. But Deanna's right about 4WD; it's no silver bullet. Actually front wheel drive is usually just fine.

Now my mother has AWD; and I believe that's the shizzle!

wet snow is different for driving in Im told...but all Ive ever had is wet snow so I guess I'd be learning all over again in "dry" snow...
as for SUV's/4WD and whatnot......I also have chains, and those DO help for stopping. also, it helps to have a bit of common sense and go SLOW (once again for the dumbasses/teenagers/rednecks) SLOW. before I had 4WD and had to use chains, it was a bit harder. mostly I just stayed home. just me and my friends and our vodka or beer or whatever.....we had a roaring fire, a good movie on TV and we were set! who needed to go out in the nasty weather anyway????? not me man! Every winter, you see doofuses stranded on the side of the road becuz they didnt use good sense and they got stuck in a ditch or up against a tree/rock/fence/enter your own obstacle here.......its too funny the stuff the yahoos do.....well, its entertainment value if nothing else...

Okay, we're up to about 8 inches of snow. It's hella windy so all the snow is blowing everywhere...Gah

I HATE driving in the snow...Okay, yes I am 16 with no license, but I hate driving with people in the snow. I was with my friend last time it snowed and we did a complete 180 turn while attempting to stop when it was snowing. After that, I was done. There's a girl that drives me home from Colorguard practice and she has the crappiest car. We skid everywhere. I think I am going to die with her LOL.

Right now I'm sitting inside where it's all nice and warm with shorts and a t-shirt on. No matter how cold and how much snow there is outside I will never retire my shorts :D

By this afternoon, we had about 10 inches at O'Hare... it looks like about eight of those inches made it to my door. We just had 12 inches about two weeks ago, and now it's back.

I haven't left the house all day- the cars in the parking lot I can see from my window are all buried in about a foot and a half of snowdrifts, and...uh... I drive a Hyundai. I am, however, almost out of smokes and am contemplating walking a half-mile to the 7-11, fortified with a warm belly due to quite a few vodka cocktails. Too bad it's too cold for a Slurpee!!!

Marissa- those pictures were pretty. Snow is so much nicer to look at in pictures than when you're trudging through it with an ice scraper in your hand.

Well, we are under a state of emergency and they really do want everyone off of the roads so I don't think it's worth it Kelly. I mean, it's STILL snowing and who knows when that's going to stop. If the local watering hole is open my roommate and I will be going there to watch the Pats. It probably won't be open but we'll see. It's just a few doors up so I think we'll manage.

The wind has been insane, we live on the water so it really whips our building. My roommate had snow coming in her window which Mufasa was having fun playing with.

When I went to the grocery store yesterday it was insane. There were no more carts there were so many people. Almost all the yogurt was gone, Silk plain soymilk - gone, bread - mostly gone, frozen blueberries - gone ??, it was so bizarre. Oh yeah, no tortilla chips. I have never seen so many empty shelves in my life! Fortunately I caught the tail end of the crowd so the lines weren't long anymore when I checked out. They were 6-7 deep when I walked in .

But the bad part was the snow had already started so I had to drive in it. I had some guy tailgait me right on my bumper, and some guy brake in front of me for no reason on the highway. Why can't people use caution in the snow? It makes me crazy. Also, my battery in my car is going so it was dead when I went to leave my apartment. I flagged someone down for a jump and it was fine from store to store. Then it died again after I dropped off my groceries and I had to flag someone down again, this time standing in an almost blizzard. LOL. Anyway, I have lots of great food, including Dove Promises dark chocolate (heavenly + antioxidants) so I am happy. Now my car is tucked away on a side street covered with a snowbank I am sure. The small streets don't get affected by the snow emergency.

I wonder if the office will be closed tomorrow? Pattie, good for you that you are off! I wish I had a digital camera to show you guys my 'hood, I'm getting one soon though as a belated Christmas present to me.

Stay warm and safe everyone!

I have to laugh at some of the announcements. I mean last night it was all religious services that we being cancelled for today. This list was like St. Mary, St Ann, St Joseph, etc. all with no services. Today it’s places like Curves and the Y that are making the closed announcements. The governor declared a state of emergency why would you go out to exercise?

I used to be a milk chocolate girl but for some reason I've flip flopped to dark. It also doesn't have the "bad" milk fat that milk chocolate has.

Congrats on sticking to the diet. I didn't do that much exercise over the holidays but when I went to my annual physical I found I had lost 4 pounds. I thought it was the way the scale was calibrated so I weighed myself at the gym and I really had lost it. I've lost one more pound since. :D For me what seems to work is small but fairly frequent portions. You GO girl! Does anyone even say that anymore?

Hehe. I'm sure we have a much bigger snow removal budget up here and people are more experienced and the system is better synchronized. Aw, thanks Sweetie. I figured that about Nantucket, and I think they were without it for a long time because early in the storm their report was "no report". They're tough islanders though, they know what to expect over there in winter.

I went their in winter once for a wedding. It actually was early winter so the first day was gorgeous. Then it became freezing over night, so much so that the harbor froze and we could not get a ferry out. We had to take a puddle jumper. How's your "Wings"?

It was kind of cool. But I was scared. I did not like puddle jumpers at all. Although it was exciting at the same time. And with the bad weather it was all over the place like an amusement ride. I survived though :wavey:.

My ex's brother was living there in the winter because it is dirt cheap. They had to move out at the beginning of summer though when the rent became more per week than what they were paying per month! It was eerie being there in the winter because there was only a few restaurants open, and only one that was suitable for a small reception. It was an adventure! :)

Nice. Did you have to go yesterday? Here in Boston no one has gone to school all week! I don't think I ever got that lucky, except for the blizzard of '78 when I was 7 so I don't really remember. Except I do remember falling backward from the snowbanks into the snow because I could. It was wild!

I made it to the office. The habah is frozen. I walk so I'm exhausted cuz it's like walking in sand. But I'm here, another day for some more pay.

I got up early because I thought I was going to have to shovel - but then our plow guy showed up - thank God! So I only had to shovel around my car rather than the whole driveway - but yesterday I got stuck at the end of my driveway because I didn't notice the large mound of snow the street plow had pushed to the end of my driveway

I like all the snow- but the brushing off of the car and the shoveling is becoming quite the pain in the ass...

Well, my car is now under 24 inches of snow and counting. It may be there until spring.

Y'all stay warm and safe! I love snow - but yeah, it's a bitch when you need to shovel it and drive in it...you guys keep making me think of that commercial where that man takes forever to unbury his car and scrape the windows - then hits his keyless remote and his car is actually parked in front of the car he cleaned off.

Don't shoot the messenger, but it's sunny and in the low 70's here today. Too nice outside to be at work. I'm wearing flip-flops.
