View Full Version : Homosexual Parenting: Is It Time For Change?

Risks of Homosexual Lifestyle to Children
Violence among homosexual partners is two to three times more common than among married heterosexual couples. Homosexual partnerships are significantly more prone to dissolution than heterosexual marriages with the average homosexual relationship lasting only two to three years. Homosexual men and women are reported to be inordinately promiscuous involving serial sex partners, even within what are loosely-termed "committed relationships." Individuals who practice a homosexual lifestyle are more likely than heterosexuals to experience mental illness, substance abuse, suicidal tendencies, and shortened life spans. Although some would claim that these dysfunctions are a result of societal pressures in America, the same dysfunctions exist at inordinately high levels among homosexuals in cultures were the practice is more widely accepted. Children reared in homosexual households are more likely to experience sexual confusion, practice homosexual behavior, and engage in sexual experimentation. Adolescents and young adults who adopt the homosexual lifestyle, like their adult counterparts, are at increased risk of mental health problems, including major depression, anxiety disorder, conduct disorder, substance dependence, and especially suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.
Conclusion
The research literature on childrearing by homosexual parents is limited. The environment in which children are reared is absolutely critical to their development. Given the current body of research, the American College of Pediatricians believes it is inappropriate, potentially hazardous to children, and dangerously irresponsible to change the age-old prohibition on homosexual parenting, whether by adoption, foster care, or by reproductive manipulation. This position is rooted in the best available science.

 Excuse me, but what is that exactly? It's far away from an acceptable scientific article. And honestly a college that has as a mission "expect societal forces to support the two-parent, father-mother family unit and provide for children role models of ethical character and responsible behavior", seems to me more a political group than a scientic association. They say its just always best to satisfy your cravings in small doses. For example, every now and then I'll get a chocolate craving, so what I do is buy those multi-pack hershey mini-bars (with mr goodbar and milk/dark chocolate) and I'll eat 2 to satisfy the cravings. I also buy those 60 calorie fudge pops and every now and then ill fight a craving with 1 of those.

all this talk of cookies may cause the relig-a-tards in the world to claim Sesame Street's "Cookie Monster" is either a pedophile or gay (Last time I look he was made of carpet fabric, Kinda hard to be gay when yer nuthin' but a piece of blue carpet...But I am sure the relig-a-tards will say he is gay since there's a hand up his ass  )

Conclusion
The research literature on childrearing by homosexual parents is limited
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree. maybe the authors of this article should have started with that premise....
I think that this is something that should certainly be looked at, but it should be noted that there is plenty of violence in hetero relationships, its just that many women dont make reports or they are not taken seriously if they do.
Personally I think its too soon for an article of this nature to be written simply because gay partners have not been "parenting" all that long. I think, in order for this type of research to be taken seriously, you would need to study ADULT children whose parents were gay/lesbian.

All you have to do is look at this section to realize it's certainly not scientific. Scientific writing has a quality of sounding unrhetorical, so they certainly would not pose a refutation, which is a purely rhetorical technique. Plus, the whole thing is active voice, another purely rhetorical technique. What do you know? My communications major DOES serve a purpose!

1. Bran is healthy.
2. Bran is good for your system, if you catch my drift.
3. Bran has so much fiber in it that it's like you're eating air, you can eat as much as you want and not gain anything.
4. Bran has all GOOD carbs.
I usually have bran muffins every morning.

All this cookie talk is confusing me. Well firstly we call them biscuits, but I got the cookie part down. I won't bother asking what they all are because it really doesn't matter to me either way, but there are bran cookies? I mean, I know that's not ridiculous in itself but there are plain bran ones, nothing else to them? Hmmm maybe I took the cookie talk too seriously.
The ones I buy are sweetened with sugar substitues (usually Splenda). I try not to eat much sugar and there are some good ones out there that taste pretty good, so I figure why not. If they tasted like unsweetened bran flakes, though, there's no way in hell I could swallow one. Might as well just eat a paper envelope.

Here was I thinking that there was an American food product that was not covered in sugar. Seriously, the foods over there are quite astounding. My family has never spent so much time in a supermarket. We took forever digging through the foods in an effort to find products that were somewhat natural and not drenched in sugar or fat. The only things we could find were fruit and bran. It appeared that if anything could potentially be tranformed into something unnatural and sugary, then it was. One of my memories of LA was stopping at a set of lights and needing to vomit because of the smell of fat in the air where a number of fast-food outlets were located. Oh and all American meals should be halved in size. I've never seen so much food. So good boy, get that bran into!
 wow - interesting to see the perpective on a non-American on our food - the sucky thing too - is that the crappy bad food is CHEAP in comparison to food that is good for you or organic or relatively healthy at all...eating right costs a lot of money here it seems...

Yes, it does cost more. The free range organic eggs I buy are 3x the cost of regular eggs, maybe more. But I won't eat the regular ones anymore. I try to buy as much organic stuff as possible. Deanna, I also love the mushy raisin bran! Isn't that weird? ;)
Lux, you're right about how gross food is here. I don't understand why people buy all that crap. Real food tastes better. I guess the advertising brainwashes people into thinking things are "good". I dunno.

I have wanted to try free range eggs - my ex-bf swore by them and I've still never tried them...

You're right, the bad food can be like crack. I don't even go down the cookie aisle or the chip aisle. It was hard to get away from but I am glad I did.
I buy the Pete and Gerry's eggs. I'm not sure there's a huge difference in taste, probably since their diet and lifestyle are completely different. I didn't really notice though. There's another kind that is high in omega 3s cuz they feed the chickens flax seeds but they are super expensive, I think the brand is The Country Hen or something like that. Mmmm...food...

Good carbs are good for you. You shouldn't eliminate carbs from your diet, just as you shouldn't eliminate fat from your diet. You have to eat good carbs and good fat. That's what the South Beach Diet is all about. And the trick when it comes to carbs is that you can subtract the dietary fiber and sugar alcohol from the total carbs. So, say a bran muffin is 15 grams of carbs and it has 8 grams of dietary fiber. You're only eating 7 grams of carbs in the end.

Bran muffins don't have that many carbs. It's not as if you're eating a loaf of white bread; you're eating whole grains. And how can eating good carbs in moderation be bad for you?

oops! I've wanted to see Saddest Music since it came out, but it's on DVD now - at least i'm pretty sure i saw it in the rental place. But my budget is so limited that i really have to pick and choose. I used to watch, like, 5 movies a week.
Sometimes i'm not in the mood for depressing weird movies - but i'll still see that one, the review i read said the directors style was really interesting. (I forgot in what particular way, but still) :wavey:
I was thinking of getting Garden State for this week's rental...
Well, I know what I'm getting tomorrow. It's more of a black comedy than a depressing movie. And it's so out-there and weird that it will hold your interest even if you don't like it. Isabella Rossellini as a legless beer baroness with two fake legs filled with beer? Sign me up!
Garden State is fab...

They have couches in the back at the one I go to. :p Hollywood produces such **** that if I were forced to watch their crap on a constant basis, I think my teeth would decay from all the sugar and saccharine.
Yup, I saw it. Cheadle was FANTASTIC and for once I really liked Nick Nolte.
Omigod, you saw it?! SQEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I was actually thinking of taking a solo trip to the movies for that one...(which i don't mind at all, actually. I hate choosing a movie with someone else.)
I love cheadle. love, love. I like Nolte, too....and i heard the lady who played cheadle's wife was fantastical. I also heard that the suspense is nail biting, and that, suprisingly, they don't show that much violence (considering the subject matter)
anyway...

right, it is more of a black comedy, but you know i don't like ugly things. :p Anyway, the review made it sound extremely compelling, so it's a must see.
Hey, i almost rented it last week, but decided on Collateral instead: Have you seen "A Slipping Down Life" with Guy Pierce *major crush* lily taylor and sara rue?

I've liked Cheadle since he was on Picket Fences, one of my favorite shows. Nolte always annoyed me, but he was really good in it. There's next to no violence in it, which I found refreshing.

Oh, it's not ugly at all, it's a beautiful film. The set pieces, the costumes, Isabella, just gorgeous. And the fact that it's black and white makes it even more stunning.
I never saw that other movie, but I read a book by Anne Tyler by the same title. Is it about a woman obsessed with a rock singer?

Yes! I didn't know Anne Tyler wrote that book! ha!
Damn, i was trying to see if i should rent it or not. (slipping down life) I really like guy pierce. But the back implied there was a shooting and stuff, and since i already knew Collateral was good, i decided to save it for another day.
Wow, you've really reassured me about the Isabella movie! great! looking forward to...

Sideways is fabulous, finally a movie that deserves all the hype.
I like to cruise the IMDb just to get some ideas for rentals. If I don't know what to get, I just search through it for twenty minutes.

yeah, it's a good plan, especially for someone who watches as many movies as you...
I think i'm gonna wait for sideways on DVD, but, maybe not, i kinda want to see it before the oscars so i can go..."C'mon!!! are you kidding me?! Hilary Swank!?"

Madsen must win or else. Portman? Oscar-worthy in "Closer"? Gimme a f*cking break.

I was gonna say Portman, but i didn't want to, uh...you know.
I don't love swank. don't hate her, but...shoot, i'd rather see Meryl get another one than either of those two. And i don't usually feel that way. Omigod, i was reading an Oscar thing today in the paper, and he brought up Julia for Closer  not that he thought she should get nommed, but that she might.
I will eat the hairs from my brush if that no talent b**** gets nommed!
I like movies with girls boxing, but i don't want to see the sad part where Hillary is paralyzed...
I loved Girlfight, though... :p

Julia in Closer? Gawd, she's horrid. One of the worst actresses of all time. Truly wretched. She should be burned at the stake for giving us My Best Friend's Wedding and all her other **** films. Meryl I find rather cloying lately, to be honest.
Boxing movies bore me to tears. Unless an ear gets bitten off, count me out.

Meryl has been a bit more cloying, but still, to me, it's one if those "more talent in her little finger" things. *plus Cancer* Plus, I haven't seen Manchurian candidate, but if she's evil, it's probably a more compelling performance than her usual ones lately.
I like sports movies with chicks. And some other sports movies. For instance, bad movie i love: Blue Crush (I think that's what it was called. Rosario Dawson was in that one, too.) I actually saw it in the theatre.
also - A league of their own, and Major League. Also 8 Men Out.
well, you see my point. :p
I completely agree about Julia. I wish her brother was more famous than she, because i like Eric. But no. We have to have the "pap and drivel" member of the family... :p The review i read actually said that she ruined Closer.

TWO!?? I never ate just 2 in my life!
Well, now that we are on a cookie/sweets thread  I figured that I would let you all know I went to bakery this morning. :p
I got cup cakes, a brownie, and a chocolate eclair to name a few. Got to be prepared for the storm. ;)

Nice, I love Virginia Beach. Ahh, the memories. Effing blizzard. I have to go out to the grocery store which is going to be a zoo parade. Even though New Englanders are used to storms they still go out and stock up on food for a century for each storm. It used to drive me crazy when I worked at Stop and Shop.

I've never been, just to Charlottesville which is also awesome and the beach. A friend of mine married a man from VA and moved down there. She also went to college down there. VA would be a great choice I think. Is it a blue state?

No, I don't think. Although, at the movie theatre last night, there were gay couples showing affection in public (no major smooch fest...that is disgusting for anyone). It seems to be accepted down here.
...but I just like the area, no matter if it is blue or red.
