View Full Version : Bands you became temporary obsessed with

Did you get a crush on some bands for a period of time?

I'm a die hard fan of Fleetwood Mac, but I was obssesed with QUEEN, during the early 80s. I loved their 70s songs, the Opera-Races-News of the World era. But their 80s songs were great, too. The Miracle, The Works, and Innuendo too.

And with Pink Floyd, during the early 90s. I got all their CDs I could, falling in love with Dark Side, Wish you were here,

During my early teen years I was too disco (late 70s), so Donna Summer was my diva.

But nothing could be compared with my obsession for Fleetwood Mac.

My first obsession ever was The Monkees. Micky Dolenz was my fave as a kid, he was funny AND cute. I still love 'em. "The being known as wondergirl..." :wavey:

NKOTB...from 1989 to 1994 or so....obsessed isn't even the right WORD. LOL I swore to everyone I was going to marry Joe McIntyre. Still love 'em.

I've never been so obsessed with anyone as I am with Lindsey. :D Have loved him since around March 2001 and here we are closing in on March 2005. Love and adore him.

Also, Justin Guarini is an obsession of mine. We are waiting on pins and steak knives to hear what he's up to!! He posted yesterday to look out for him on something, but we have no clue. LOL Probably a new TV show. EEEE!!

I'm obsessed with Keith Urban. He blows my mind, he's insanely talented. I'm dying to see him live again and get his live DVD coming out soon!!!

I know it ain't music, but my TV obsessions include Josh Holloway (Sawyer on Lost) and Evan Farmer (host for While You Were Out).

Just thought of another couple...BSB and Take That. :)

...Wow, never would've guessed that?

I know Deb is stoked that KU is coming back to OKC to play in the frikkin' huge Ford Center (Basically OKC's version of Dallas' American Airlines Center...But I prefer our Ford Center since Bricktown is 1 short block away, Hell Bricktown is not even a 3 minute walk on foot.)

Btw, Never have temporary obsession for musicians...Just the ol' fashioned life long support for too many a band to name here!!!

I was really into matchbox twenty for awhile, but I stopped buying after the first two albums. I was also really obsessed with the Barenaked Ladies for awhile, earlier on in college, but I'm not as bad about it now. I don't care for their latest album.

I'd say I went through major phases of Led Zeppelin, Duran Duran, U2, Crosby Stills and Nash, and the Who.

But as someone else said, they all paled in comparison to my love of FM. Not even close.

I liked them too...wasn't obsessed, but I have their first two albums. :)

BBMak is another band I was obsessed with. My parents and I went on vacation in like 2000 or something and I made them pull over to a pay phone so I could call to get tickets to the show they did in Dallas. LMAO!!

Thanks, Brian!!

I still listen to all three, but my interest in them is not as rabid as it once was.

-LisI'm so into FM right now. It's an obsession incomparable to my other obsessions. Still, I'm kind of wary because I suspect it might still end up like the others. Five years from now, I might be thinking, Why was I that into them? I still love 'em, but I don't feel like posting on message boards about them constantly. I hope that doesn't happen, though. And if it was ever unlikely to happen, I'd say it was with FM.

It's always a possibility, but I'll tell you this... I had the same fear, too.
I thought that with as much as I listened to FM, there HAD to come a time when I'd get my fill of them (as I had other bands) and move on. Maybe pulling out one of my FM CDs on very rare occasions.

But it never happened. :o

Just think, the more you listen to them, the more songs you will like.

Maybe one day Desert Angel will be music to my ears. I doubt it, but it's a possibilty.

I even bought the import for Sooner or Later which has the remake for More Than Words on it...along with a song called Emily (written for Mark's lil baby niece..awww), the actual song, Sooner or Later and September (I adore this song!). I bought On The Line (soundtrack to the movie...never saw it. LOL) just for the song Don't Look Down (no relation to Lindsey's song. )..and I like N'Sync's song on it too. I bought the scrapbook and magazines with BBMak in them. Also, the DVD Music in High Places where they play acoustically in Vietnam. BUY IT NOW, the acoustic version of Ghost of You and Me is worth admission alone! Plus, they're hot, hilarious and British.

When it comes to music, I only have a few obsessions. Fleetwood Mac (and solo), Blondie/Debbie Harry, Bette Midler, David Bowie, and Franz Ferdinand. Those are my favorites and have been ever since I was a kid (save Franz Ferdinand because they just came around the block). I never get sick of listening to any of them and hearing them makes me very happy.

I saw that on MTV. It was fabulous! Their stuff is definately on my "CDs to buy" list. Out Of My Heart is a fav of mine. I bought the CD single once, only to find out it was the DVD single. So, I have the music video for it. I was kinda bummed, but the video is really good.

I, too, was majorly obsessed with the Spice Girls, around 96-98 I guess; I was 9 when their first album "Spice" came out and 10 when "Spiceworld" came out (1996 and 1997, right? Did I even get the names of the albums right? Its been a long time!!!)

Were talking CD's, posters, movie in theatre 3x, movie on home video 100x, singles.....ya, pretty obsessed.

I am happy to report that I only, *ahem* listen to good music now :) *ducks from current fans of Spice Girls and their modern day counterparts*

Oh, and my favorite band in the whole world used to be the Cranberries, from about 1994 to 1999 (age 7!).I still listen to them sometimes, mainly the first three albums, which I spent like $60 on getting the box set with all the b-sides. I have 3 versions of Bury the Hatchet (regular version, "The Complete Sessions" 2-disc version, and "The Complete Sessions" 1-disc box set version) and I don't really even like that album

A few others: Celine Dion, Destiny's Child....probably others I'm forgetting- I've probably blocked them from memory :)

In short, my tastes in music have changed A LOT! Except for the Cranberries, I never listnen to any of that other "music" any more. To me, the general rule is if an artist doesn't write their own songs and/or lyrics, I don't listen to them (or atleast that's the way it turns out).

then:

Debbie Gibson
Belinda Carlisle

later when I started liking non-sucky music ;)

The Doors
Live
Space Hogs
Smashing Pumpkins
Soul Asylum
Green Day

--the above are bands I still like - but only two bands now hold the obsession in me - they are FM and The Beatles :D

I never became obsessed with whole bands, just songs.
I loved Simon and Garf when i was young, I was obsessed a bit with Jefferson Airplane, but just their songs. I basically like everything now that i liked then, but with more stuff added. I was obsessed with the song Candle in the Wind (live) during my Marilyn obsession, also Bette Davis Eyes and Celluloid Heroes...
I always really loved lots of Heart songs, CCR songs...
never really a full blown obsession, though...
Although when i heard Stand Back and Seven Wonders, i was obsessed with both those songs for a brief period...My mom says i was obsessed with GDW when i was 3, but i'm not sure if that counts...I always loved Cyndi Lauper, too. And i really liked my Bonnie Tyler tape i got when i was 8...still do.
Mostly i was always obsessed with actors and actresses instead...

Wham when I was about 9, for a couple of years.

Then, Bon Jovi, from 12 til 15 or so.

No real obsessions after that until Mac & Stevie, starting in 97 with The Dance. Still going strong! I really don't think that this one will fade either. :D

I've never really had any band obsessions as big as this one. But I was obsessed with the TV show Cheers and actress Shelley Long for about 3 years and then I had little obsessions with Cher and Blondie for a while, and then it blew into the whole HUGE FM/Stevie thing

Well, when I was 13, my bedroom walls and locker door at school were plastered with Duran Duran (I was John Taylor girl).

I also went through a John Mellancamp thing with the Scarecrow album. Great fiddles.

Have always loved Madonna; listened to a lot of Pat Benatar in the late 80s and early 90s. :sorry:

But Fleetwood Mac and Stevie have been there in full force since 1987. They're the only artists I've ever travelled to see (the first time I did that I thought I was the coolest kid in the world - I was 17). And they're the only ones I can listen to constantly, in any mood, and never grow tired of. Sure, there are phases of listening to other songs obsessively (right now The Killers' Somebody Told Me and Sarah Slean's Lucky Me are getting lots of play at my house) but they're always on shuffle with lots of Stevie and FM in there, too.

Nirvana. I admit it. I was one of those posers who latched on to the hype after he (sorry for the bluntness) blew his brains out with a shotgun.

I had about 4 or 5 Nirvana t-shirts, all sorts of cds and magazines, and my walls and binders (I was in junior high when this started) were plastered with pics and posters of Kurt Cobain. Everytime the Nirvana Unplugged was re-broadcast my a$$ was planted in front of the TV to watch.

I also was listening to groups like Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots but Nirvana was it for me - at least for the three years between Kurt's death and the Mac's reunion. But once The Dance aired, the Nirvana posters came down and went in the trash, the cds were sold or given away and the T-shirts donated to Goodwill. Now I have Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham, and Walter Egan pictures and posters plastered all over -- so many in fact that several had to go on the ceiling -- and I haven't looked back a day since.

As a matter of fact, I can't stand Nirvana now and when one of their songs came on I change the station or just turn it off  . I never realized back then just how nasal Kurt Cobain's voice was! UGH!

There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Careless Whisper

As nauseating as "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" was, "Careless Whisper" is actually a beautiful song. I just bought Ladies and Gentlemen - The Best of George Michael and have a new found appreciation for him.
Have been trying to get more variety into my cd collection - I have nearly 400 cds but the collection is still mostly Fleetwood Mac and its various members and associates, and Tom Petty. Also picked up the Best of Marilyn Manson. How's that for variety?

it's kinda ironic that none of the groups you mentioned are still around, Except for Pearl Jam no Seattle/Grunge band survived (STP were from San Diego so they do not count).

Nirvana ended when Kurt Go-Bang died (Or murdered depending on what ya believe), Layne Staley OD'd thus ending AIC (Who I still like) and STP technically disbanded (I am surprised the Scott Weiland has yet to OD...Which would effectively end Velvet Revolver.)

And I will make a prediction that the same fate will happen for the newer bands with the current style of music...They may be big today, but tomorrow no one will remember 'em except when ya see 'em behind the counter at Mickey D's when ya place an order (Make sure they ask if ya want fries with yer order, Then say "Hey werent you in that band ____, Man what happened, Did ya become this past year's faddy-flavor?" and laugh at 'em and announce to everyone in earshot in the restaurant who this asstard is for good measure  )
