What is the best song that Stevie has performed live, but did not write?

My vote: "Insider" and "At Last".

Talk to Me was always good live. I agree with you about At Last.

Harmony wise she kicks ass on Second Hand News.

~*~Becky~*~I like the way Stevie does it, but I like it a lot better when someone does it and hits the high note at the end. She just chooses not to include the high note. (Not that I can blame her; it sounds all screechy whenever I do it) I prefer a bluesy/jazzy voice to a rock voice on that song, really.

Strong Enough with Miss Crow was HOTTTTTTTTTTTTT.

Speaking of Crow, I love their colaboration on that song "C'mon, C'mon," I doubt it's ever been done live though. I also like it when they do "Difficult Kind" together, I think I've seen them do that live before.

If it's Stevie on her own then I'd have to say "I Need to Know." She rocks that song.

Can I get some love for "Outside the Rain"??? I never really cared for this song until I heard the live versions- it packs a nice punch. And even though it has been played to death, it is still her strongest setlist opener, especially with Carlos Rios' wailing guitar soloing. I thought "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" (which she didn't write either, BTW) as the opening number on the TISL tour was kind of lame.

I was front row at one of her shows a while back. One of her family members that was touring with her came out and sat in the seat next to me and was being flirty. When Etta saw this, she started laughing her ass off. She is one salty old broad and such a treat to see perform. She looks great. Her autobiography is fab. I love her!

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of it either, but anything was better than the TISL rendition. It was pretty painful. Especially after hearing TISL over the speakers and expecting her to come out in a blaze of glory. Instead, we got a slowed-down rocker with no bite to it at all.

Etta James is incredible, she could sing the phone directory and I would be there enthralled. I even like her voice more now, it has a deepness that gets me everytime. After having heard My Funny Valentine sung by her, it's very difficult to listen to any other version.

I've yet to hear a great or fast version of Stop Draggin' from any TISL show, so consider yourself lucky. ;) It was just putrid, IMO. I was lucky when it came to Outside the Rain, she dropped it right after my two shows. I would have been incredibly pissed if I didn't get to hear it.

Extra special thanks go to Heather and Amber for sending me "Insider" live. It is really, unbelievably awesome. I've been listening to it for a several weeks now, and I have a few questions.

#1) I remember how GREAT Hard Promises was when it came out with Stevie and the Girls all over that sucker. Where and when was this live performance of "Insider"??? I'm assuming it's gotta be '81/'82 cuz of The Voice.

#2) Why the hell doesn't Stevie sing like this anymore????? I just know that she could do it if she tried.

#3) If there is a video out there of this performance- I absolutely MUST HAVE IT!!!!! If it exists and anyone has it, please let me know.

Holy crap- these lines from the live performance, in particular, are ****ing mind-blowing:

"It's a cage without a key
You can feel the danger...

Ohhhhhhh, I'm the one who oughta know!!!"

and {quietly}

"I'll bet you're his masterpiece.....
I'll bet you're his self-control
Yeah, you'll become his legacy...
His quiet world of white and gold...."

and then she RIPS the roof off-

"Yeeeahhh, I'm the one who oughta knoooow...
I'm the one you left to rust
Not one of your twisted friends...
I'm the one you couldn't loooooooooooovvvveee!!!!!"

and the then the absolutely classic Stevie "oooh's" at the end.....

Curtis was absolutely right....

It's really, really, REALLY good. Not like anything in today's music. No wonder the music industry is in the ****hole.

Tom Petty in his prime was it. And Stevie was the absolute Goddess of Rock-n-Roll... Absolutely.....

The only video for this song is the regular video for the song, which is not the "live" version. It appears to be shot on the same day as SDMHA - Stevie has the same braids in her hair.

Dude, I know. I weep with the beauty just thinking about Insider, Live. I've been asking around, and apparently no video of this song exists. :distress:

Me too. Insider gives me chills. And you're right, no video exists (that we know of, anyway.)
