In celebration of my last semester in college, I think it would be cool to see what all the college (and high schoolers) have this semester. Here's my schedule:
MWF Classes:
Community Health Promotion II (one hour lecture)
Nursing with Complex Alterations in Health II (two hour lecture)
Ethical Perspectives in Health (one hour lecture)
Tues Clinicals:
Community Health Promotion II (Clinical component)
Thursday Clinicals:
Nursing with Complex Alterations in Health II (7a-7p)
On my own:
48 hours with a preceptor in a chosen field. (I chose the OR).

Hey, that's more than a lot of people can say. I suppose you can say i'm taking this as a fluff course. I was able to talk the Dean into letting me take it instead of ANOTHER history or poli sci course. I'm transferring and no longer will be a Poli Sci major but I do need a foreign language in college (even though i've had years of French in high school). I'll take my A and a GPA boost, thanks
This is my tenth (yes, tenth) semester in college. YaaaYyYy 2nd degree (my first was a BA in Communication-- no science for meez).
Finishing up the pre-nursing stuff: Bacteriology & Bacteriology Lab; Anatomy/Physiology II & Anatomy/Physiology II Lab, and Nutrition.
If all goes well I will FINALLY start nursing school in August. :) (after a required CNA class in the summer)

:wavey: I would just take courses in summer school and graduate early, but I can't really do that. I really only need to take Econ, Gov, and Physics and I'm good to go. I made it a point to take the lighter courses for my senior year after this year, which is HELL. Hence, why I'm trying to drop AP History. It's faaaar too much for me to handle right now.

*busts out Paint and makes a diagram* OwWwWwW, the compression!)!(@)!*#!)(@
So as you can see, it all works out nicely. :) My basic strategy is to pick the classes that interest me. Hence, Science & Ethics (which sounds like Theory of Knowledge 2.0, and I'm in love with that class), World Lit, 20th Century Lit, Psych, etc. :D
At my school, we're required to have a certain amount of credits in each field in order to graduate, and all I really need is another Lab Science (hence, Physics) and Government & Econ, which are required anyway. I'd take them in summer school, but I'd apparently have no time to get them overwith. And then I'd have to make out a new schedule, and my school? Doesn't offer much in the way of interesting courses. So yeah.

I always named them after the Spice Girls. And got sad when they died. Frown.
Is that game still around? I'd imagine it would have to be updated a whole lot.
Okay, seriously? I feel ancient knowing that you were playing Oregon Trail when the Spice Girls were around.
I always caulked my wagon. I always had bad luck with the typhoid, though.
I loved the old Nickelodeon shows, but as much as I miss Hey Dude and Salute Your Shorts (with Blake Sennett, who played Pinsky, who's now in one of my favorite bands, Rilo Kiley), I miss The Elephant Show w/ Bram & Shari and David the Gnome (!!!) the most.
I love this thread, because it's reminded me that I'm done with school. It felt really nice to finish the courses for my B.A. just a few months past 21. Hate school hate school hate school.

And if anyone's really interested in Oregon Trail, e-mail me and I'll e-mail it to you as a zip file. I've got the original and the deluxe version, though the original has some bugs and I never play it because it makes the deluxe version actually look modern. (Okay, not really. Did anyone else ever have their oxen eat something poisonous and then die? I always thought that was cheap because there was no way to prevent it...
OMG - Oregon Trail kicked ass!!
My oxen never ate anything poisonous - but I remember many a member of my party being bitten by snakes and dying...sucked....
The funny part is we'd all name our Oregon Trail people after actual friends - so like we'd make fun of the one who died all day...stupid...we were so lame lol

Oh. My. God. I didn't even know there were eight hour lectures! (At least not all in one sitting).
I never had to deal with lectures really, but I had twelve-hour "classes" when I was in college. The instructor was usually only there for the first four hours or so, and the rest was spent completing projects and trying to figure out the CAD software. Design was the most challenging and in-depth thing I've ever done in my life. Almost everyone in my classes, including myself, lived in the workshops. We even had pillows and blankets stored in our bins. It got to the point where you were so tired and sick of seeing the same people every day for hours that you wanted to crawl under a rock. And when it came time for internship assignments, it was pure hell. The gloves came off! It was hella fun, though, I kind of miss being in that environment.

I was a total Book It whore. I read like a fiend- I started reading when I was three, and I was bringing stuff like Stephen King's It to school in second grade, and teaching everyone about sex based off what I'd read in it... haa! I would get enough Book It free personal pan pizzas to feed my family at Pizza Hut once a week. It was insane.
WOW! Duckula!! I loved Duckula. But Inspector Gadget was one of my absolute favorites, too. Although I had some weird hatred for Penny. I always wanted her to buy the farm, as a child. She got on my nerves.

Do you remember the show "Honey, I'm Home"? It was on Nick At Night in 1990, I believe, and it was their attempt at original programming. It was about two families that lived next door, one was a modern family and all of their scenes were in color, and the other was an old-fashioned 50s family and all their scenes were in black and white. No one I know remembers it one bit.
If they want to get good ratings, they need to bring back ALF, Mork and Mindy, Gimme A Break, Facts of Life, etc. All the good shows that I grew up watching. :D

I knew it had the word special in the title...:D
Here's some info:
Excellent children’s series about a mannequin who came to life in a department star via a magic spell from a wizard named Waldo the Magnificent. He must be wearing his hat while the words “Hocus Pocus Alamagocus” are spoken. Thing is, he can only come to life ‘inside’ the store and when he’s wearing his hat. In the store, he learns about life (usually through song) from his newfound friends. 1981-1987. Ran for 121 episodes.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
Jeff – Mannequin, good dancer, plaid hat.
Jodie – Big afro, pink jump-suit.
Sam Crenshaw – Security guard. Has a cat named Penelope
Muffy the Mouse – Always talks in rhyme and loves cheese.
Waldo the Magnificent – Magician who shows up occasionally.
TXL – Sam’s computer. Sometimes gives the audience quizzes. I get ‘em all right… now.

OMG, do you have health fairs at your school? When I was in tenth grade, we had a supersized health fair and it was hilarious. My school got together almost 20 speakers and gave you a schedule to go room-to-room for a 15 minute lecture from each speaker. And they gave us bags to carry all of our pamphlets in.
I was sent upstairs for my "lecture" and it was on safe sex. The woman was CRAZY. She was rail thin, had long gray hair down to her ass, and flew aorund the room like a butterfly. She lectured us on STDs, saying that "germs and bacteria thrive in warm, moist spots, and what is more warm and moist than a crotch?"
She then proceeded to demonstrate on anamtomically correct mannequins how to use a rubber and *shudder* how to use a female condom. When she was getting ready to put on the rubber, she said you had to "tweak the head," so she pinched the tip of the rubber and said it had to look like a pointy hat before putting it on. THEN SHE PUT IT ON HER HEAD LIKE A HAT!
I will never forget it.

I liked GUTS and Global GUTS over Double Dare.
GUTS! Do you have it??!?!
Sorry, I'd rather race through a giant ear full of earwax on Double Dare than spend one minute in the presence of Mike O'Malley on Guts . ;)

He was so annoying.Oh, I know! But I watched it anyway. And I watched "Space Cases" and "The Secret Life of Alex Mack," too, as y'all have mentioned already. Looking back, those were pretty bad shows. :o The whole chemical falling on Alex Mack and giving her unexplainable magical powers thing was beyond ridiculous. And "Space Cases" was even worse. But hey, I was a kid.

I just read through this whole thread and nodded my head to the entire thing. I remember kids in one of my classes playing Oregon Trail but for some reason I never got to play it. I really wish the old Nick shows still came on, though... those were awesome. Seems like the only one that's lasted is Rugrats.
Alright, schedule time.
MWF - History 102, Civilization, English 102 -- for some reason, every story in the book that they're going through right now has some kind of biblical basis. They keep talking about "the soldier knew he was going to be saved by the grace of God" and crap and it's just so annoying. And then after they had talked about how this story is related to theology, they asked if someone who believed differently would perceive it differently. No duh. I could have given 'em a mouthful on objectivism but I didn't.
M only - Bio lab (I took the lecture class last semester)
TTH- College algebra and music appreciation (eeee! At first I wasn't sure if I could take it since I might switch to a music major but then I went down and talked to the chair of the music department and he just flat out told me that it can substitute for music literature -- looks like I might be switching majors to music therapy! I'm so excited...)
And let's just complicate things some more -- not only is my school on academic probation and could (in my opinion more than likely) lose accreditation, but somebody who was a senior here was sent over to Iraq in October and he was killed this week. The school's holding a memorial service for him tomorrow and the high school he graduated from is letting his family use their gym for services. I think it just hit everybody here what's really happening to our kids overseas, but they're all still thinking that he died defending freedom. I don't know how to respond to that, I just think it's a crying shame that someone with so much promise and hope and just about to graduate was put in harm's way and taken from this world because of it.

I forgot to mention Sociology in my Senior Schedule Rundown. I remembered I was taking that class when I was sitting in Psych and reminded myself to tell you all. I'm pretty sure English 12 is 1-semester, so Sociology would fit in after that class is over. :)
Back to the OTness. It makes me sad that Nickelodeon sucks now. Except for Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, and Jimmy Neutron. The end.

not only is my school on academic probation and could (in my opinion more than likely) lose accreditation,I had no idea that was going on with your school! I know a few people who graduated from there and had good things to say about it, one of them was a music teacher of mine, in fact. But it was a while back that the people I knew graduated from there. What's going on that would make the school lose its accreditation?

It's an awesome school, I got that impression right off when I started going there... but the majority of the problems it has are rooted in how it's got a religious background, not in the education at all. SACS came in... September?.. and they concluded that there were enough issues with academic freedom, governance (mainly with the board of trustees and where do their interests *really* lie, that kind of thing), and communication between the administration and students to put it on academic probation. I remember hearing back in May about how there were books removed from the bookstore because of their content and students were protesting... one of the authors came to speak at a high school and he basically said outright that he was not pleased with the actions taken and we all knew that's why he wouldn't speak there. They're looking for a new president too -- they had appointed somebody and he stepped down right before the holidays. (I won't say that's a bad thing -- they showed part of his speech on TV and when you see somebody holding up a bible and declaring it 'the final authority in all matters from administration to the classroom,' that scares the CRAP out of me.) They're holding a Q&A forum on the 18th for students -- I think I might check it out. I'd like to hear just how they plan on fixing things...
 :( I am sorry to hear about that.
I think this is going to be really tough because this is the second student we've lost this year and we've only got a thousand people here. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of tears shed tomorrow.

Thanks for all the info, Kortni. As I'm sure you (and everyone else) can imagine, it would definitely scare the CRAP out of me if the president of the university said that the Bible is the final authority in every classroom. That certainly has implications in science classes. I imagine that this isn't the first time something like this has happened at a religious university. Maybe it's inevitable that something like that happens and then the academic programs have to be revamped. I don't know, just an assumption. If you don't mind, I'd like for you to e-mail me and update me on all that as it unfolds (
[email protected]) My e-mail address is all over this thread, huh?

i won't try sounding too humble, i finished last year with a 95.80 average grade, so i get more free courses than i should be handling.
that's ALOT of work, i can tell you that, some of those courses demands weekly written assignments too, overall i've at least 4 written assignments and articles to prepare each week, which leaves me on the verge of committing suicide.

oh, so it really is the same. I don't know what a 95.8 average is, unless it's out of one hundred, cause ours goes like "4.0" "3.5" etc. Sounds like you have a lot to be proud of, though! congrats! :woohoo:

the grades range between 0 to 100. one's avarage grade is just the avarage of all that year's grades in all courses.
