This story makes me so disgusted:

http://www.courttv.com/news/2005/0110/pregnant_ap.html

I fail to see how a child paternity issue can prevent a divorce from being finalized. Terrible how the judicial system re-victimizes the victim.

Grant the divorce, already . . . A$$Hole!

How f*cking sick. It's bad enough that this woman was treated like a piece of trash by someone who should have treated her with love and respect, now the judicial system is treating her the same way. That judge is a real piece of work.

maybe she should move where he cant find her....the boonies somewhere. where a jerk like her hubby would be shot and buried and no one would know until the snow melted. or the ice shelf shifted. or drop him out a plane going over a volcano. hmmmmm Ill think of more later. after lunch when I am fully recharged. :blob1:

They should allow the divorce, but I was shocked when I read this paragraph near the bottom:

"She says she became romantically involved with a childhood friend, Chauncey Jacques, and that he is the father. Jacques is now in the Spokane County Jail awaiting trial on a federal drug charge.[....] In court documents, Hughes pleaded with Bastine for the divorce, saying that she wanted to marry the father of her child"

This woman seems to be heading down another destructive path. I hope for her sake as well as her children's that she doesn't get into a similar situation with her new husband. Sadly, too many women who've been victimized fall into another bad relationship, because their self-esteem has been so damaged by the abusive husband. I hope these advocate groups are giving her counseling about establishing good relationship patterns as well as helping her get a divorce from her husband.

There is a concern that an abusive/controlling husband may try to trap a woman into marriage if this became the norm. If, at some future point, abortion becomes illegal, and a pregnant woman cant escape an abusive marriage, I can see the plight of women everywhere going downhill FAST.

I personally think this is the tip of the iceberg, that womens rights will soon be a memory, and that women will be second class citizens in this country. The religious rights groups see women as subservient based on scripture and soon women will again (if they have their way) be chattel. That was their lot in life up until the 20th century, and the effort has been underway since Roe to get back to that, including limiting birth control, restricting access to abortion services, and now the freedom to seek a divorce from an abusive husband.

I will say that I agree with Nancy, that it looks like this gal is headed for more of the same with abusive partner #2. Makes me wonder what her childhood was like..........

I can speak from experience: Family Courts are the ENEMY of women and children.

I know, they truly are despicable. Family courts just want to get as much done in one day, to the point where they say anything, no matter how ridiculous, just to get people out of the courtroom.

Not just the judges, but the lawyers, too!

You would not believe some of the crap arguments that are made out there in the so-called "best interest of the child". :(
