Hey there fellow Ledgies!
I have been away for a while, as some of you have noticed. Around Nov. I took it upon myself to start a personal goal in time for the new year. I have been overweight for most of my teenage years, and IMO, It got out of hand recently, so I decided to take the situation into my own hands. I started to rollerblade, treadmill, and do a gazillion ab workouts. On a daily basis I have been rollerblading 10 miles A DAY on average, then about 30 minutes on the treadmill, followed by a couple of ab routines. I am proud to post today that I have lost close to 40 pounds.
Part of my problem was cutting down on the amount of junk and soda I would take in. I successfully switched to diet soda (probably the hardest part of my diet). I just wanted to share my success with you guys to maybe inspire some Ledgies whos goal is to lose wieght in the new year. I went from wearing XL shirts to now fitting into Mediums and Large!!!!! I will post some photos of before and after later on in the week. I hope this helps some of you on the weight loss road....

Alex, that is AWESOME!!!
Congratulations, and I'm VERY proud of you!
Funny how easy it is to put on weight, and how difficult it is to lose it... but you faced it head on, and succeeded.
Ok, slinking back to my comfy chair now to sleep some more (in between the coughing jags).

Alex,
Thats great! You have a new active lifestyle. Glad to hear that you were successful in losing some weight. It is never easy to lose it. :distress:
I am still the same old Ah 'Desktop potato". I have been addicted to Photoshop and trying to make some banners and stuff. I just bought Paint Shop Pro this past Friday and I have no idea how to use it.
Maybe I will be insprired to be more active when this winter is over.
Good Luck, Alex! :blob1:

Woot!@!$!@! Awesome.
I recently somehow managed to fit into Larges, as well (I used to wear XLs for a loooong time). How it happened, I have no idea. But I'm not complaining! Some (but not all) Larges are too big for me now, too, but I haven't tried Mediums. :D

BUT - I'm also trying to just be happy with what I have - and perhaps just try and maintain...mostly because losing the weight would mean buying new pants...haha...and I don't want to do that right now...

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
Sounds like you've been working your ass off and that it's all paid off. You should be very proud of yourself.
One word of advice, though? Cool it on the diet soda, you'll get gallstones and the sodium in it will make you retain more water than normal.

Alex, that is fantastic.... It's one of the hardest moves to make in life to completely switch what you're used to around.... But the rewards are endless...All it takes is making the decision to do it... and then stick with it. I hope you find endless rewards along your path to good health... And don't you find you have tons of energy from excersising???

Diss-is that true? I go through about 3 or 4 cans of the stuff a day. I knew it was high in sodium but I didn't know there was a link between it and sodium. I also drink 2-3 bottles (16 to 20 ounches each) of bottled water a day. But the diet cola is my "treat".

Oh yeah, the sodium in it makes you retain water if you drink it on a steady basis. Carbonated drinks should be kept at a minimum, they can give you painful gallstones if you drink them regularly. It's more common with people who drink regular soda, but still. If you are going to drink it, especially on a diet, you should drink the recommended servings of water before drinking it.
But if it's working for you or Alex, who am I to bring ya down? :xoxo:

While on Nutri/System YEARS ago, late '80s, I developed gallstones. You might remember the Nutri/System class action? Well, I was told at the time by someone (I forget who) that dieting in and of itself can cause gallstones. I don't know if this is true, but I know that developing gallstones was an issue in the class action. BTW, gallstone pain is HORRIBLE.

Congratuations Alex! Great work! I think I'm most impressed by the 10 miles on rollerblades. First I can't rollerblade to save my life, but to go for 10 miles? I admire that. Keep up the good work!

Too funny!! That's what I had every night. Then one day, when it didn't mix quite right, I decided it was disgusting and never had it again! That was right around the time I had the gallstones out and Nutri/System went under. God, I can still remember how that crap tasted.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words!
It has been INCREDIBLY difficult at times, but it seems to have paid off. I still would like to lose 15-20 pounds more. Once you start working out, you have all this energy to burn! I find myself actually ENJOYING the exercise. Its amazing what a little motivation can do for you. I was never that fat to begin with. I have a big frame, and I didnt look as fat as I weighed. I have also never been self-conscious about how I look or anything, but one day I decided I really needed to get healthy. The last thing anyone needs is a heart attack at 40. So, I got off my @ss and onto the roller blades.
Not only that, but I felt I was spending WAY to much time online, so I decreased my online time and increased my exercise time instead. I'll be online a little more often now, but I feel I need another good month or 2 months to get to my goal....
BTW, I went back and read through all your messages and I got a little teary-eyed :( Im just happy to share my story for you guys, in hopes it can inspire some other Ledgies.
Thanks again!

I'm a little late it looks like with replying, but CONGRATULATIONS! That's really awesome and you should be VERY proud of yourself. Hang in there with the diet drinks. I switched about 2 years ago, and it was hard at first. But after about a month I got used to them. Now if someone, like at a restaurant, accidentally brings me a regular drink, I find it disgusting. It's the same type of reaction you get when you're used to drinking regular drinks and accidentally slurp up some diet. I cannot imagine ever going back to regular drinks now.
How nice is it once you start seeing the first few pounds come off! Huge motivation to keep working out and dieting. The first couple of weeks or so before any weight comes off are hell. You feel like you're kicking your ass and nothing's happening. But once they start to come off, they do it faster and faster (at least that's what I've found).
Again, congrats and keep it up! I'll hold off on any other comments until I read the rest of the posts so as to avoid asking you questions you've already answered!

Congratulations Alex, and thanks for the inspiration! I'm with Deanna in that I want to lose about 10 lbs (20 if possible), that is one of my resolutions this year. That, and to not beat myself up while doing it. Again, great job!

Congratulations Alex!! How exciting for you. I bet your beaming!
Please listen to what others are saying about the diet soda. It's poison!! I was a Diet Pepsi freak. It's addicting and it will eat your stomach up. After I quit drinking it my belly problems went away, actually lost a couple pounds also.
Again, congratulations!!
