Okay, so is it wrong to shove FM/Stevie down family and friends throats when they come over for New Year's Eve or any other "party" occasion? Where do you draw the line, after you play "The Dance" and "Live in Boston" dvd and before you get the bootlegs & demo's out or when they leave early?

If it's people that don't know FM that much I play TVBoFM.

When they're quietly weeping and rocking back-and-forth in the corner, you'll know that they're almost at their limit. If they start to bleed from their eyeballs and ears, you've gone too far.

But, anything up to that point is fair game, I say. It's not a true party until *someone* cries (or something gets broken), right? :p

Good choice. If i torture my friends, I play something that really rocks. You know, THE BIG SHOW!!! Stevie's gotta be dancin all around, and/or LIndsey tearing up his guitar....else, why bother?

I've never had any complaints (to my face) lol...what people say behind my back? Well what I don't know can't hurt me...so until I get a complaint about shoving Stevie/FM down people's throats I will continue to do so

Actually the last time I had friends over I put all FM/Stevie in my cd changer - they totally dug the music - and one guy even said he is now a fan :D

I'm always the driver when my friends and I go out. Every now and then I sneak a FM/Stevie/Lindsey song into the mix. They usually cringe, but I think I have them tamed down now. They are getting good at picking out which songs are which and knowing the lyrics.

My sis used to make fun of me so so bad for liking them. When she came in from Columbus over break, I saw in her car GH, The Dance, and TVBOFM. She even said she wants to go a concert with me. Score! I converted one!

I've actually managed to turn a few Stevie casual fans, into non-fans...lol is that an achievement? Well probably not, I dont know how it happened! lol

They just say stuff like "You made me sick of her, now when i hear her voice i cringe cuz ive heard it SOO MUCH"

Seriously...maybe i need to cool it lol

Well, it's your place, you choose the music. That being said, I guess an ask to see if there are any objections makes sence. Most folks will probably be too polite to verbalize any objections..........so what am I saying, you ask? I have no idea.......gads, I wasn't very helpful.

At work, I am able to play anything I like on the radio. I still play SN/FM sparingly. Mostly because it has such a profound ettect on me that it is hard to work with it on, but I also fear I may be boring my co-workers. Another little reason, that I rarely admit to is that if I played it as often as I could, my co-workers would be worried that I may be obsessed.....which of course is true.....but they don't need to know it.

Does anyone else here get excited when you start to tell (your victim's  ), you know, stuff like the Buckingham Nicks romance or Lindsey's under rated guitar playing or why Christines not there, stuff like that. My husband's like "honey slow down", or my friends will make fun of me and say "your hyperventilating, calm down" I just want to teach them so much about this great band  Or during one of Stevie's really good performances on Boston, I'll say "LOOK!!" if their talking and not paying attention  Is that just me or is anyone else like that?

yes, but i try not to dork out, cause maybe they don't care. But usually i end up dorking out anyway. But the worst is when someone's not paying attention, and you asked them specifically to watch. So i have to say "you have to watch this part! Look! sqeeeeeeee" and if it's on and they're talking or something, it's extremely hard for me to look away from the Video/DVD to pay attention to them. :D

I have done exactly everything that you are all talking about. It's not just you! I have a bad habit of completely changing subjects to talk about music...especially FM. A lot of things that other people talk about (mainly other people) bore me.

And I always do the, "Wait everyone...this is a really good part- listen!"

There is nothing wrong with shoving FM down other people's throats. It should be done on a regular basis. We must convert the masses.

Any time there is a Stevie/Mac event on TV, a new album, press clipping, etc., I get several phone calls and e-mails telling me about it. Of course, I always know about it weeks (if not months in advance), but I always am gracious and say, "Thanks for telling me. I appreciate it!!!"

I actually STOPPED talking about Stevie/Mac altogether many years ago to non-fans. People would introduce me like this: "John, this is Chuck. He *really* likes Stevie Nicks. Don't get him started..."

Also, there was this rather unfortunate incident at an Austin gay bar, where I was introduced to this totally cute guy (in said fashion above). He said, "Oh, you like Stevie Nicks??? Me too!" I said I did, but that I went over and above the norm and didn't want to bore him. He said, "Oh, me too. I even collect bootlegs." And that was all it took. We started comparing notes, and wound up in a Stevie-pissing-contest about who had the more extensive collection that lasted at least 15 minutes. When we finally snapped out of it, we realized that a lot of people were staring at us like we were freaks, including the friend I was with who was completely dumbfounded. My friend said something to the extent that he had never seen me in such a frenzied state and that it WASN'T pretty. And to top it off, the cute guy got mad at me and wouldn't let me buy him a drink because my collection was bigger than his, and I knew about demos that he had never heard!!! :(

You're right, i'm just not having any luck, EVAH! Though, now, my friend always tells me "oh, i heard (insert dreams, gypsy, rhiannon, the chain) and i thought about you. It was really cosmic" But she's AFA, and is very partial to R&B, etc. she gets a weird, pained look on her face whenever Stevie comes on...

I used to have all my MP3's of F-mac in my dorm room. People were nice and insisted it didn't bother them, but then I realized they were humoring me... You basically have to tailor the songs you choose to specific crowds (that's what's great about the band!). If it's a younger, rowdier crowd, stick to Lindsey's rock-out "Tusk" type stuff and Christine's classic rock style (stuff off the White album/Rumours works well). If it's a more mellow one, mix in some Stevie/Christine rock (their "Tusk" contributions). Just balance it out. I've found that the Live in Boston CD is great, because it showcases Lindsey and also has Stevie's classics in there to back em up for a good mix. The Dance is a little too long for a party, unless it's mixed in with other albums.

I've found it really tough to play Stevie's REALLY emotional stuff or Lindsey's solo stuff around people without fore-warning them of his style :-) So if you're going down that road, just be careful not to drown people, hehehe. Wait it out before you bust out "Bwana" and "Play in the Rain" on the poor souls.

Charlie's! I like trashy/seedy bars. ;)

Also, I used to get a kick going there knowing that it's less than a block from the state capitol and gov's mansion -- which I always thought was funny, given Texas' anti-sodomy laws at the time. I used to have a friend who worked in the capitol, and he said sometimes you could hear the bass from the dancefloor in the building's (large) underground complex.

quietly sings, "can you feel the fever" in the background....

I don't privilege my stupid indie rock friends with the greatness of the Mac, they wouldn't appreciate it and besides, they're not worthy!

When I went to see F.M. last summer in Dallas, I stayed with two of those particular friends and they were like, "Fleetwood Mac? Are you SERIOUS?!!" Needless to say, I almost had to punch a few people. But when some other of their "cool" friends announced to them that they too were going to the THE SAME SHOW THAT NIGHT all I could do was laugh in their faces!! And now they've sorta kinda come around to the idea that Fleetwood Mac may just be a good band that they've missed out on. Losers! Bwahhahahahahahahah!!
