I love everything I've heard from the Christine Perfect album, but I haven't heard the 1984 album, so I can't comment.
Dislike:
Oh Daddy
Sugar Daddy
Liar
Bad Journey
EDIT: Forgot one--Honey Hi
Hmmmmm...shorter than my Stevie list. And there aren't any that I hate, unlike with Stevie. But then again there are fewer Christine songs out there, right?
EDIT again: Had to remove "Songbird" and "Hollywood (Some Other Kind of Town)" because I like them both now. :woohoo:

I can honestly say there are no Christine McVie songs that I truly dislike. I can usually find something to like somewhere. However, there are a few songs that I would say are so so. I wouldn't miss them if I'd never heard them.
One More Night(Her only song that she ever wrote in the third person)
Skies The Limit(The title is grammatically incorrect, very annoying)
I Do
Easy Come Easy Go used to be in this category, but now it's grown on me. There are just a few songs that she wrote on the Christine Perfect album that I would describe as subpar(the songs themselves), however I'll give her a pass since this was so early in her career & I LOVE her keyboards & vocals on the whole album.

As in the Stevie thread, there aren't many Christine songs that I truly dislike, it very much depends on my mood. These are the ones I don't like much:
- Sugar Daddy
- Never Make Me Cry
- One More Night
- Love In Store
- Everywhere - I've grown tired of it :(
- So Exited - bleh
- Easy Come, Easy Go

I don't have any that I hate-- but one that always makes me cringe is from her 1st album, the C Perfect album-- Let Me Go (Leave Me Alone)-- yikes, her voice just doesn't seem to be able to navigate that song very well!
More recent ones that don't grab me all that much.... hmm maybe a few on her 1984 solo album are a little bland...nothing that I really despise though.

Honey Hi
Can't really comment on the solo work. I love pretty much all of the 1984 album, especially The Smile I Live For. But I haven't really listened to Christine Perfect or In the Meantime. I had a cassette copy of a Chicken Shack record at one point, but I don't know what I did with it. :(

Oh I hate so much "Only Over You". Must be her only Fleetwood Mac song that I skip. On her solo tunes,
When You Say
So Excited
Easy Come, Easy Go
And a couple more from her 1984 which are, I agree, rather bland. The rest of her Fleetwood Mac catalogue is fine with me. :)

To be honest, the only one I can come up with right here is "Only over you".
There used to be many that I disliked earlier, like "Oh Daddy", "I wish you were here", "Think about me", "Hold Me" etc... But I've grown to like all of these, although some more than others.

Same here. Great beginning, great energy, great bassline, catchy chorus....love everything about it. The first time I heard it, I felt like I knew it already because I could sing along w/ the chorus so quickly. :woohoo: Sort of sweet how the lyrics tie in to FM also.
On The Dance, after the song ends, doesn't someone yell out, "Do it again!" ?? :p
However I don't really like Only Over You, or Wish You Were Here.

I'm not really sure "I hate" lists apply for me here. I really don't think any of CM's songs provoke that kind of reaction.
I'm not wild about "Wish You Were Here," "Mystified," or a number of bland offerings from the '84 solo record (most of those not written by her), but even when she isn't blowing me away, the atmosphere is pleasant.
Incidentally, I LOVE many of the songs that were listed as least faves: "Only Over You" and "Temporary One" are quite good, I think. And "Sugar Daddy" ranks with the entire band's all-time best moments.

What she said. I liked The Dance version better than TITN, if I have to choose!
I have to tell my story about Temporary One, though. My 7-year-old daughter called it the "ol' sissy" song. I was like...???? She thought that when they sing "and the sea that divides us is a temporary one..." they were singing "ol sissy" instead of "us is a." I rolled.
"The river flows on and on and the sea that divides ol' sissy temporary one and a bridge will bring us back together." Try it, you'll see. Of course, now that song will forever be called the "ol' sissy" song at my house.........

I agree about "Only Over You" GREAT SONG (except for the HORRIBLE quality on the Mirage CD *remaster, remaster, please*...and it like skips right before the song starts)
But I GREATLY DISAGREE about Little Lies....this is IMO FM at its BEST in the 1980's...every memeber can be felt on this song! GREAT POP PERFECTION! :D

Loathe to Admit
Music is a very intimate thing. The best songs seep right into your soul but the connection often evaporates if you share it. (Although sometimes it doesn’t.) Last night I was flipping through a magazine in Century City and came upon a piece called “Great Summer Songs,” and one of the respondents mentioned Fleetwood Mac‘s “Over My Head.” Fleetwood Mac was never a hip band, but they became fatally uncool after “Don’t Stop” played at the finale of the 1992 Democratic National Convention. And yet some kind of “Over My Head” memory turned a switch (I hadn’t listened to it in years) and to my everlasting shame I immediately bought it on iTunes.
I played it twice in the car on the way home. Schmucky as this sounds it sank right into my system like a Lemmon quaalude. Musical elitists like Glenn Kenny tend to sneer at such admissions, but a lot of people succumb to semi-sappy tunes of this sort on a car radio, especially at night. But as I listened to Christine McVie sing “you can take me any time you like, I’ll be around if you think you might,” I knew I couldn’t be having this moment if my sons Jett and Dylan were in the car. They would be mortified, and so would I. Keep it to yourself. Nobody else’s business.
My favorite McVie-Mac track is the raggae-flavored “Did You Ever Love Me?“

Great way to revive a thread from 2004-05!
I favor doing that, but in moderation. I don't like several of them at once in the same forum, as I realize it's confusing. But the way I read the boards is to start from the last page first and I can limit myself to the new posts that way if I choose.
But I'd rather use existing threads than start a new one, when I can. I saw some threads regarding "Over My Head" specifically, but they were older ones too.

"When You Say" is his major clunker. Everything else he did with Fleetwood Mac is top notch. Like they say, "you can't win 'em all" (unless you're the UCLA basketball team in the late '60s/early '70s, that is.)
Maybe it would've fared better had he waited & put it on Second Chapter...seems like it would fit that album better than Then Play On.

I love Only Over You and find myself singing it sometimes, but I never cared for Sugar Daddy.
When You Say is something Danny Kirwan did originally in the Spanish guitar style with Chris accompanying. I thought for some reason they decided they needed a track quickly for the album and just had her overdub her own vocals. The Danny version is likable but the one with Christine vocals they should have left on the shelf, not sure which one actually came out first, it might've been Christine's.
Mm, Becca. Yeah... I listened to When You Say again and I think I need to retract my "awesome" adjective. "Likeable" is a much more honest word to use. I still stick by it, though.

Oh Daddy is nice when you listen to the center-channel mixes like they did on Classic Albums. It's just an uncomfortable song to sing along to.
Songs I don't like:
- Morning Rain
- Over My Head (Just on the album; I like the Rosebud performance)
- Oh Daddy
- Warm Ways ("Make me a woman tonight" )

Yeah, really. If that was an issue, Stevie would have zero fans.

I need to add "One More Night." I've tried to get into it, but it's just blah.
Almost all of her songs are this way for me. Or maybe, they're just too lightweight for me from a lyrics or subject matter perspective. I especially hate "Everywhere" for this reason, plus because the music is so "blah" and wimpy. That's ok for a song here or there, but most of hers are that way. Lightweight lyrics plus wimpy music is just not what I listen to music for.
The others I really just cannot stand for the same reasons are "Save Me" and "Got A Hold On Me", and especially "Skies The Limit", which I think I can safely say is my least favorite ever, or at least it's tied with "Everywhere".
There are exceptions, though.
I always liked "Oh Daddy", but when I heard her say that she's being sarcastic in it, then I started really, really loving it! It's one of my favorite songs on Rumours. And I love "Over My Head", and "Wait and See" from the first solo album, and "The Smile I Live For" from the 1984 solo album.
And I don't get the hate for "Little Lies". At least she has something to say in that one, other than the usual "I'm so in love and life is just so wonderful and I'm just Suzy Sunshine" theme.

I always love the songs people hate the most.
Love:
Mystified (amazing harmonies and a island feel)
Honey Hi (closing harmonies are sublime)
You'll Never make me cry ...simply beautiful
One More night....love it, and Stevie and Lindsey's yearning harmonies
Only over you...I'm a sucker for FM's harmonies, they are awesome on the fade out
Wish You were here....love it
Don't love, but don't hate
Sugar Daddy
Don't Stop...just am sick of it, that's all
Some of the stuff from Behind the Mask..eh..except for the song BTM...it's GREAT.
Never heard Time...couldn't bring myself to listen
I love Never Make Me Cry! I'll fight anyone who doesn't. It's one of the best parts of the Tusk doc. http://youtu.be/C-caXvJUOrk?t=37m31s

The thing is, Christine is very, rarely Suzy Sunshine at all. So, I don't get that criticism. A song like YMLF or Love in Store are exceptions. To me, most of her songs are about loss and yearning or accepting less than the heart wants and needs. I wouldn't even call Songbird a happy song. It's more about release after great pain than it is about joy.

True. Almost all of her songs have this rather dark undertone to it amidst all the seemingly happy, upbeat melodies.
And quite a few really showcase her sense of humor a lot, like Sugar Daddy for example.

I like when she says, "Gots to get outta here" at the end of Hollywood..

Fleetwood Mac was never a hip band, but they became fatally uncool after “Don’t Stop” played at the finale of the 1992 Democratic National Convention. And yet some kind of “Over My Head” memory turned a switch (I hadn’t listened to it in years) and to my everlasting shame I immediately bought it on iTunes.
All this hand-wringing about what will happen to one's cred if one dares to like the "wrong" kind of music ... I'll never understand it.
Anyway. There aren't a lot of Christine songs I hate, actually I can't think of any, even some that bug me (like her Mirage songs and "Everywhere") can do so because they're so close to being songs I could love. But "Never Make Me Cry" might be the one song that's just the hardest for me to give any kind of **** about. Some of her 90's stuff feels very bland but makes me seriously wonder if maybe different production would help? Although I think "Skies the Limit" is just not for me.
OTOH ... at one point -- specifically, when I was a teenager and didn't know Fleetwood Mac beyond the radio hits -- "Don't Stop" would've been my first answer. I thought it was so ineffective and had no interesting angle. Now I think it's a lot of fun especially to sing along to. I've also come around on "Brown Eyes" a total 180 degrees.
I generally like Christine Perfect (I dig the guitar on "When You Say") and In the Meantime (there's two or three I skip but I still like them more than the stuff I skip from the 80s and 90s) but I've never listened to Christine McVie or the entire Chicken Shack albums so that should qualify my opinion.

I know. As a kid I was always mocked for liking uncool music. Even by my own mother. I used to wash the dishes with an oldies station playing and my mom would come in and say, "Why are you listening to that? That's before MY time?" And people who didn't even know me thought they had the right to comment on my musical tastes, saying I needed "to grow out of that." It was annoying, to say the least.

In my high school, kids were still worshipping Zeppelin and cheering on the metal acts, like Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. The girls liked Journey and Def Leopard. Rush was acceptable. My obsession with Fleetwood Mac made me an easy target for ridicule. But I held my ground. I especially caught heat for buying the Stevie solo albums. So uncool for a guy, unless he was gay, and I was, so I was pretty much a freak anyway. Funny thing is' today' so many of my childhood friends text me or email me or facebook me to say they think of me anytime they hear the Mac. I think that's a complement.
There's very little Christine I don't like. A handful of bland numbers from the 84 solo album, Skies the Limit, All Over Again, the vocals on Morning Rain and Homeward Bound...

My favorites were Christine McVie and Joni Mitchell. And I was on the football team. I had to endure Motley Crue, Guns and Roses, and a bunch of other horrible music that did not interest me in the least.

I agree about the vocal on "Morning Rain," but I've never had any objection to the vocal on "Homeward Bound" (the song that in my opinion is Christine's lost classic). What is it about the vocal on "HB" that you don't like?

Exactly. It got overplayed when it was first new. My excitement with Don't Stop faded away rather quickly. I always change the station if I find it on the radio, and boy, I find it quite often!

I agree...its one of her best.
If I was a moderator of this board, I would have to pull this entire thread because I don't see any Christine songs that are not great songs

Totally agree. I could listen to the last bit, the instrumental with those heavenly ooohs and ahhhs for an eternity. Mirage has my favorite batch of CM tunes, especially Hold Me and Love in Store.
I don't dislike any of her songs, but some of the lesser ones for me are Sugar Daddy, Oh Daddy, Never Make Me Cry (though the alt. takes on Tusk are amazing), One More Night, Wish You Were Here and Love Shines.

I wouldn't rate anything Christine has ever done with Fleetwood Mac below 7 out of 10. Generally her weaker ones are a couple of the BTM and Time songs. She has a couple of solo songs that I'd go down to 6 for. Most of her music is strong 7, solid 8 and some 9's. Why, You Make Loving Fun and Brown Eyes might be the only ones I'd put as really genuine 10's though.

I'd give most of her Fleetwood Mac songs a strong 7 and up. Some of her solo material hovers around 5 or less. "Friend" is the only song I like from In the Meantime, and it's only because it reminds me of "You Make Loving Fun."
