Copyrighted VHS's to DVD

I have a DVD recorder and want to be able to make copies of the few copyrighted VHS tapes I have that have not yet been put on to DVD. Once they are officially released on DVD of course I'll buy them! But until then I want to put them on dvd so I can get rid of my VCR for good. Is there any way to do this without spending a fortune on some machine? Does anyone know?
