Just wondering what everyone is doing for christmas.
On christmas eve i must go to mass (again, had to go to a mass at school because its a catholic school) and sit there for an hour before to get good seats then another hour for the mass.
Then I will trek my way to my uncles, eat good food, open presents (pretend to like them), be attacked by all my little cousins, and watch some of the 24 Christmas Story.
Christmas is nice. its at my house. Some people come over eat drink, and be merry.
Its all good!

Sounds good!
I am off work from the 23rd to Jan 3rd. I had the good fortune to meet and become friends with a girl who happened to be from my hometown about a year ago. She is giving me a ride to my parents house on the 24th. :woohoo: (otherwise i could not go). We do our thing on Xmas eve, so, we will do our thing, and probably just sit around after that. But my parents' yard will probably have lots of pretty lights up, and my mom will have decorated the "christmas pole" inside (A pole my mom carved and put other things on, decorated with lights). Also, my parents rescued a dog - it was just getting thinner and thinner at this guy who my dad works with house. They wouldn't take it to the vet, even though they were buying other things. So i get to meet that dog. Also, when i was there for Xmas last year, it snowed a few inches, and so i took my parents dog for a walk down the road, and we found deer tracks in the snow and it was fun to watch the dog get all "trackie/hunty" in the forest. So i really hope it snows again! It's very beautiful there, it will be nice to smell the air, look at the stars, and savor the silence.... :) For a few days to have the illusion of "peace on earth"

So, ummm......good seats for mass? That's a lofty goal for the holiday! I'm just teasing you - but really, what's a "good seat" - one you can see everything from, or one where nobody can see you doze off?
My day will start at my house exchanging with hubby around 7am. Then over to his parent's by 8 for more gifts, a huge homemade breakfast & mimosas (sp? Never mind, I'll be buzzed by 10am & won't care how to spell at that point! ) Jet over to my parent's around 11, eat again, hang until 3 or 4 (no exchanging there this year, we already did that on Thanksgiving when my bro was in town. It was a total relief to get some of it over with!) Then over to his Grandparent's house around 5 for more gifts, more food & more drinks. Usually home by 9 or 10pm.
BTW, every year we insist we'll try to rush less, squeeze in a nap, blah blah blah. Never happens! It's exhausting, but I really don't mind at all. Family is what Xmas is all about for me.

Well since my church is fairly small, a large a mount of people come to each mass so some people end up standing. Actually a lot do, thats what i meant by good seats lol.

I'm having Christmas with the "family." :woohoo:
I can only tolerate my aunt's schtick for so long and then I'm ready to slit my wrists. She's loopier than anyone I've ever met in my life. I think the aliens left her behind on purpose when they went home. Her husband works for Mass Mutual and tries to sell me policies all day long.
My uncle is the biggest asshole and such a pervert. He cuts photos out of Playboy's and puts them in his wallet. I've never liked him. His ex-wife came last year and they got into a fight, I haven't seen him since.
I get along with my cousins, but they're the kind of folks that have had everything given to them in life and it drives me nuts to hear them brag about this and that. I feel like slashing their tires and pissing on their upholestry by the end of the night out of pure spite.
And the one thing that drives me absolutely bonkers is how my aunt leaves price tags on the gifts and then makes it a point to make you look at how much it cost. Tacky wench.

well, i've been slightly sick (cough, sore throat, runny nose) for the past 3 days, due to chainsmoking and drinking for the two weeks before that. since i didn't want to smoke at this time, i've also been trying to quit. There's no way i will quit if I drink. Also, my parents (although they smoke) don't think i smoke, so i can't easily smoke when i'm at their house anyway, and also I can't drink (well, i could, i've gone to the bar down the street before, but why bother?) So, you see how the many forces are conspiring to get me to not smoke and drink? :D My mom quit drinking when she was 25 cause it started giving her headaches. Drank heavily for a few years before that, i think. My dad was an alcoholic, and when i was 8-9, and he wanted to come live with us, my mom said he had to stop drinking (which was why she left in the first place, when i was about 1 1/2.) So he did. So he can't drink anymore. I think it's nice my parents don't drink. :D

I feel your pain. I used to work in retail about 16 years ago. I really don't know how I did it. I was thinking of getting an extra part time job for the holidays but I just could not bring myself to work in a store or mall ever.
The only thing that might be worse it working at the post office (see my post on the "How's your Shopping Going"? thread about the nasty lady.)
Just put on some Mac and enjoy the quiet on your days off.

Assholes can be tolerated.. Rich but nice, down to earth people are great... But if you take an asshole and make 'em rich it does tend to breed a kind of superasshole.. My cousins are 22 and 24. I usually just remind them of how little they work and how while they may some some wonderful material stuff, their lives are empty and they need their parents to wipe their asses. That usually elicits groans from my aunt and both of them. I put one of them on the mailing list for the army last year.

Sweetie, I hope you feel better soon. I used to smoke and have quit MANY times. This time I have been smoke free for 2 years. All I can say is keep trying. The patch really helped me a lot. And the last time I only needed it for a week, just to keep me from becoming the b*tch from the East.
The same thing happened in my family, I was 11 when my Dad stopped drinking. Unfortunately the parents have divorced and he started drinking again about 5 years ago. But it isn't as bad as it was when I was little.

He had a self esteem problem and got really caught up in ego bullsh*t for which he wound up paying a high price.
And about my family, one of my uncles (by marriage) cheated on my aunt for a while and she found out right before Christmas last year but they were trying to work it out, I wanted to pound him at the party. Another uncle is on drugs and what not, and he is so sleezy and pervy I want to vomit when he talks to me. My aunts have potty mouths (although I can be guilty of that too, it is all about context however) and are just not nice. But there are a couple who are more sane than the others that I really love to see, so I just limit my time with the ones I don't.
None of them went to college and I think that they think I am rich cuz my Mom has a big mouth and has told them how much money I make. I am not rich by any means though, especially having to pay Boston rent! So there is this undertone of envy. Oh what a mess mess mess!

I used the patch about a dozen times before I finally quit. I was afraid of it too but I finally realized that cigarettes with all of the tar and god knows what other additives are a far greater health risk than the patch. They also cost about the same per day depending on how much you smoke. The patch just took my cigarette craving down from a 10 to like a 3 or 4, much more managable.
The research shows that the more times you try the more likely you are to successfully quit. So just keep trying.

yeah, i will. The patch is very expensive at once, though, like $40 bucks. I've tried it before. I felt my cravings were worse with the patch. Don't know why that would be, but that's how i felt. Actually, now that i'm thinking about the whole thing, I think some kind of aversion therapy would work real well. For instance, i didn't smoke cause my throat was in searing pain. Why can't i get painful electric shocks, or say, something that will make my throat hurt for two weeks straight to keep me from smoking? I'm a giant pain wuss, i know that would work.

yeah, i will. The patch is very expensive at once, though, like $40 bucks. I've tried it before. I felt my cravings were worse with the patch. Eat myself into a coma!!! Well, that is usually how I feel after the feasts!!
Just staying home with my small family of mom and two siblings. My sister's boyfriend will be here as well and occassionally, we have neighbors & friends who visit.
After a typical Italian Seafood Christmas Eve supper, we open our gifts. Christmas Day is recovery day we sleep in a little, have fun with our gifts and have another feast of antipasto and lasagna. Desert is a array of cookies, cake and ice cream. And drinks!
Of course, music plays in the background while I cook and eat!
I will get out of work at noon on Christmas Eve and return to work Monday the 27th, so it will be a nice weekend for me. :)

You could go for the cheaper route.... Get a big jar, fill it 1/3 full of water and add all your cigarette butts and ash to it... Mix it up and put the lid on... Let it mature a bit then when you get the urge to smoke, open it and take a deep breath.. It will put you right off it..

Or do your own aversion therapy. Make yourself smoke a whole pack in succession, one after the other. If that doesn't do it, smoke another one. You'll quit when you're ready. It is really hard, I know!

You need to replace smoking with a substitute to keep you busy (clean answers please! ) I know chewing gum doesn't really work too well, but every time you reach to put one in your mouth (again no funnies, I'm talking about cigarettes) just stop and think "I'll just miss smoking this one" and keep doing it..
Just going off topic for a moment I'm listening to Sisters Of The Moon from Oakland 1982 right now and Lindsey has just dedicated it to his mother and two brothers.. "Couldn't have done it without you"... Interesting....

Yeah, with the five minute intro. I listen to that one all the time, it's my main live version. It rocks/kicks ass. I am, of course, disappointed that Lindsey gets to sing in it, but that's the way of the world. His guitar kicks massive ass, though.

Well, on Christmas Eve my Dad and I usually go to a family style Italian restaurant and join my aunt and uncle and 3 first cousins and my 2 little cousins are also there.
I only exchange with the little ones. I don't know where we are going just yet. I liked the place that we went to a few years ago because they had KILLER Bruschetta! :blob2:
We eat and have a few laughs and then I go home with Dad for awhile and get my other gifts ready for my friends.
I go over to one of my friends (Kim) house and we exchange gifts and then head to another friend's (Donna) place for open house. We exchange with her and we get to eat some more. :blob2:
Then I go back home and most likely wrap whatever of my Dad's gifts that I did not wrap yet.
Then Christmas morrning my Dad and I exchange gifts. I will most likely have this look on my face when I get my Dad's gifts  but I really just love to give.
We eat our turkey and then I take my nap and that evening I go over to my friend's (Kim again) house and hang with her family for awhile.

Yesterday I was looking into going out to Arizona to visit a friend, but after I seen the rates for Sara and I both round trip, I about gagged. So, I guess I'm stuck here again. My parents are coming over Christmas Eve to open gifts. Sara and I will be here Christmas morning and most of the day so we can play with her toys, then were going to my grandma's for dinner and gifts. That's about the extent of it. I wanted so bad to go to Arizona, but I can't see spending $1000 on plane tickets for a 5 day stay.

Ah, Christmas Day. This will no doubt be the occasion that my body decides it wants to catch up on the sleep missed from six months of sleep deprivation. I will be overruled by my chummy pal dad, who shall physically force me out of bed, make me sit at the non-existent tree and watch him gleefully open his presents to himself as he hands me my annual meaningless $2 gift. The two of us shall then sit there awkwardly for a few minutes as we wonder if that was what all the fuss was about. I then resume awkward small-talk which will be spoken too fast, too slow, too high, too low, or generally just be wrong.
The two chums will then sit down for some food. I'll be asked how much I'd like, to which I'll respond "just a small bit of turkey please", and proceed to have a giant ****load dumped on my plate. I'll spend the rest of the day either moaning with a bucket and being cursed at for spoiling the day, or just being cursed at for not magically expanding the size of my stomach for the occasion. Then the Queen will say something about what a memorable year it has been, as my father forces me to get in the pool because he's hot. But before that can happen I'll shut the gate incorrectly and be forced back inside to think about what I've done. On my way back to the house I'll thank the Lord that he was born on this day (or that someone marked it in as this day) so that I could spend it with my alone like this with my father. Then I'll take some valium and I forget what happens after that.
I shall be looking forward to it.

I get tired of defending American Football to the uneducated over here... It's either "girly" or "I don't understand the rules, it's sooo complicated"
If an American girl can learn the rules of football, so can English boys. Hee!! ;)
I don't know how to play blackjack, but I can surely learn. When I do, I'll go to Vegas and win big money!! LOL

It's pretty cold in the UK right now.... I left to walk to work at 8:30 this morning (after just 2 hours sleep due to the Dolphins-Patriots game on tv until 5:30am.. it was worth it!! )
Yeah the game ended pretty late even over here. Brady blew it. My Dad couldn't stop talking about it. I was like OK whatever.

Hey don't slam Rugby, the original game. I've never watched a full game of American football. I've just seen it when it was on the television when I was in the US, and I've seen enough snippets to realise what I hate about it. I hate the commercial aspect of it. It seems to be played around add breaks and is like a piece of theatre. It's like everyone has an incredibly short attention span or just enjoys having a seizure. I'll admit rugby has become more commercial in recent years, but the extent to which is not comparable with football (soccer) and American football. Compared to most popular sports these days, rugby is much more genuine in it's approach as a sport, not a piece of entertainment. Rugby is the gentleman's game but as for American football being girly, well yeah, there's a bit of that. I think Jonah Lomu in his day could trample over any American football player in their day. If it weren't sweltering here at the moment I'd be wearing my English Rose jersey......or my All Blacks jersey depending on my mood. Strangely enough I don't actually like sport, but I do love rugby, or maybe it's just the Haka.
You've pretty much nailed the essence of America, ie, the commercials and our attention span. However, football is far from girly. I see your point about rugby being more genuine as a sport, not entertainment. But, without the entertainment, football would be just as good a sport and exceedingly difficult. Not to mention, dangerous, dangerous, brutal, dangerous. These men (and women - yes, there is women's football) are exceptional athletes. :wavey: so, that said, i actually don't like to watch football at all. But it was part of the season growing up (baseball, basketball, football, always, forever, ad nauseum, in my house) so i've seen a good amount.

Yeah, it is pretty commercial but that doesn't mean the players don't play hard. It's not like the games are scripted.
That being said, I LOVE AMERICAN FOOTBALL! Have since my dad first got season tix to the Bills games when I was around 12 or 13. I saw the greatest comeback in NFL history, as well as the first time the Bills made the playoffs & all the fans rushed the field & tore down the goal posts. Ahhh, the memories... :]
My bro & dad even went to one of the Superbowls - not that I'm bitter or anything. :distress:
GO BILLS!

I don't recall my post actually slamming rugby, I just said the English assume it's the toughest sport.. I played both sports in my younger days and by far gridiron was the more brutal and dangerous in my opinion... I do agree about the commercial aspect of the sport though, it is a little bit over the top and 3 hours to get 60 minutes of play in is probably a little bit self indulgent..

It's the MTV culture... All quick images, cut together... Snippets of music, heroes and villains..
It's the same with pop music.. No meaningful songs anymore.. Just 3 minute quick tunes before the attention deficit kicks in..
