Anyway, I pre-ordered it at Amazon as a gift for my boyfriend and I received notice that it shipped yesterday. We're both pretty excited about the fifty extra minutes.

Unfortunately, my coffers are too thin to be able to afford to buy it right now, but I am very much looking forward to seeing the extra scenes one of these days...and an extended look at Viggo Mortensen is not a bad thing, either!

Jason, you enjoy it for me, ok???? :xoxo:

Sadly, I cannot be on your neck of the woods to wait in line with ya :wavey: :xoxo: But, I agree, in fact I and my friend I go to the movies with SOBBED with glee and the though of good over bad as well as the sheer beauty of Galdalf on the horse on the hill coming to save Helm's Deep AND - I did the same when Mordor fell after the destruction on the One ring. Also, the same on my first hearing of Annie L.'s song.

I know they were long and not for everyone and they were not faithful to the books, but given the sheer amount of material and the size of this project, they were magnificent to me and theankfully many many others!!!!!

P.S. thanks Patt9 - I will!!!!

P.S.S. Stevie would have made a KICK ASS Queen of the Elves - although Cate B. did a great job

Add me to the list of people who love the LOTR movies! My sister and I watch the extended editions of the first two whenever she comes up to visit from Pasadena. They only get better each time. :)

Ha...I always thought that Stevie would be great as a character in the trilogy, even just a background person.

I really want to see this. The movie itself is phenominal, and I'm sure the extras will be to.

As for Stevie being in the movie, that would've been awesome! And didn't David Bowie want to play Elrond? Now that would've been bizzare: David Bowie and Stevie Nicks as the elf king and queen ;) :wavey:

It's a great movie, I'd like to see the others.

OMG the Mouth of Sauron was so freakin creepy. I also enjoyed the houses of healing. And I'm so glad they included the crossroads scene. I just wish they had put a bit more of Arwen in there. Did you hear the song in the houses of healing scenes btwy? That's Liv singing.
I was kind of dissapointed with the final conflict with Saruman...I thought it was kind of ridiculous..

Mee too - I know they could not have shown the Scouring of the Shire due to time constraints. But, still. Plus, in the book, Grima stays with Sauroman and inadvetertntly throws the palantir at Aragorn and the boys  - oh well - it was still great despite that

Peter Jackson claimed that the reason the "wizard's battle" was not in Return of the King was because he wanted the film to start fresh instead of being a coda to The Two Towers.

I think the real reason he didn't include it is because they completely rewrote that part of the book and it didn't work out well. The whole "magic" of the scene was completely deleted (the fact that Saruman was the many-colored and was still trying to use his impressive charisma powers to sway the Fellowship) and the Grima backstabbing thing was lame, lame, lame.

I would consider it a let down.

Other new parts were really great. All the extra stuff with Eowyn was fantastic!

ITA - I am glad he cut the backstabbing thing. It was just silly and anti-climatic to the IMO great exchange between Sauroman - Aragorn, and Theoden

Plus, PJ has said that he hated the Scouring of the Shire chapter, and flet it was anti-climatic. (?) So in the Fellowship he included that little vision in Galadriel's mirror of the hobbits all tied up and being whipped as a homage to that part of the book.

Frankly, I thought Christopher Lee was terrible in this one. And what's with the blatant magic, i.e. fire bursting out of his staff? So un-Tolkien it's not even funny. Wormtounge stabbing Saruman is faithful to the book, it just is in a different location.

I was glad they put Gandalf and the Witchking back in as well. The drinking game scene was pretty funny, too. And I loved all the extra Eowyn and Faramir scenes. I guess my biggest beef with the film is I think they really could have added more to the ending - but then I suppose quite a few people would fall alseep. It is quite long as it is. And I wanted me some more Galadriel damnit! :p

I'm gonna watch the appendices this weekend - they're always so interesting.

I truly think it could be the greatest flim venture ever set forth. The awesome scope of this project has no peer - ever. I know it is not for everyone (though it pretty much was for just about everyone based on the financial success  ) But, even its detractors for its story should recognize the beadth and scope of its unparrelled production

Yeah, i totally recognize the breadth and scope. Which really makes me wonder why i don't want to watch them more. I saw the whole second one in the theatre...but i can't remember it very well. I think i zoned out and stared at stuff, while trying to avoid looking at gollum, who was in the whole damn movie.

Maybe if i sit down and just really watch the sh** out of it, i will suddenly love it. I think it's best to read the books first and then watch the movies. With the history of the books stored in your brain, the movies are that much richer.

Gandalf's confrontation with the Balrog, the entire Shelob episode and Eowyn's confrontation with the Witch King are absolutely awe-inspiring.

Granted, some were disappointed by the fact that the movies were not faithful to the books in some areas- however, for me, the overall impact is indescribable.

The best movies ever, bar none.

I wish they could have shot five films instead of three because that way we would have had more bok scenes - like Tom Bombadil (sp.?) But, it is perfection as is.

There were parts of 1 that I felt were sluggish but then I would just admire the beauty of the scene, such beauty! I haven't seen 2 though so who knows what I'll think of it. I wonder if Stevie and the other members of the Mac have seen these and if they like them.

Two is pretty, too, I especially loved the flaming opening scene. But again, golum is in the whole damn thing it seems. so that part is not pretty. I feel like if i can just get through the exposition beginning part in the third one, that i'll really enjoy it. :)

saw them in theatres (after reading the books) and then got the theatrical version and along the way all the extended versions when they were released aswell , great films.
As i was watching the extended version of Peter jackson's King Kong , and afterward hours of behind the scenes docus , I thought hey let's go and watch the lotr trilogy again I thought i would do 1 out of 6 discs of the films so it would take me a week however i'm 2 days behind now ;) and starting with the final part of Return of the king tomorrow.

btw Stevie should have done an end credits song for The Two Towers (as both Enya and Annie Lennox fit perfectly for the first and last chapter however "gollums song" by Emiliana Torrini has never been my favorite.

All I can say about the Lord of the Bore-to-sleep movies is what was said in Clerks 2:

Randal Graves: "Those f**kin' hobbit movies were boring as hell. All it was, was a bunch of people walking, three movies of people walking to a f**king volcano. Even the trees walked in those movies."

The first movie of the Slobbit trilogy put both Deb & myself asleep - That has never happened before or since in our movie viewing lives.
