I was just wondering if everyone had a lot to buy for and if you are done or maybe not even started yet.
I am lucky cause I have about 5 people to buy for and then just a few little things for the people in my dept.
I already got a few stocking stuffers for a few friends of mine. I got my Dad something but I still need to get more. I got wrapping paper and boxes and some gift bags.
I just need to pick up a few gift cards and then I am all set.
Anybody expecting anything special or giving anything special this year? I want a photo printer but I will be getting that myself after Xmas.
I created a wish list at Amazon and I have no idea why because nobody is going to get the things for me. LOL But it was fun to make and I can dream.

 I know a few people like that, too. But it is kind of fun to go shopping in the height of the season sometimes. Then there is online shopping, too.
I actually think that I can get some gift cards online even for Dunkin Donuts. :blob1: I am still afraid that I won't get them in time or they will get lost so maybe I am better off just going there.

It is easier to shop for friends then parents. At least you kind of know what your friends want.
I want to get my Dad a Xmas throw. Like a blanket type kind. I don't want a plain one I want a Xmas one and I don't want to pay a lot for it either. I swear that I have seen them around but I can't find any.

I've gotten everyone but my parents and two friends done. I have no sibling to buy for. My extended family still doesn't include my older cousins and me in the "adult name draw." (We're 24 or older.) Oh, well.....that means my grandparents and aunts and uncles still buy for all of us.

I've gotten something for my sister, but I don't know what my parents want. Anyone have any ideas as to what a pair of adults in their forties would want (besides a break from their kids)?

I don't have any siblings either. I just buy for my Dad, one of my first cousin's 2 children (one who is now 17) and my 2 friends that's it. I did secret Santa at work and that will just be a gift card. I also get a few little things for 4 people in my dept at work. 3 of them are guys which makes it kind of hard cause I have no idea.

Do they eat out anywhere? Maybe a gift certificate to a restaurant that they like might be an idea. If they drink coffee maybe one of those new gift cards to Dunlin Donuts might be a good stocking stuffer.

I still need to buy a few things for my mom and dad. I also need to mail some things out soon. I'm going to a Christmas party this Thursday and need to wrap that gift too.
My parents and I always exchange lists and I always get them a few things not on their list. I love surprises. :)
Who doesn't love chocolate!? I hope I get some for Christmas. LOL I made my dad this lame plastic tree with lil decorations on it a long time ago and put candy in it for him...it's become tradition that I buy candy for his lil tree every year.
I love getting gift cards, even though some people think it's lame or unthoughtful. I would rather buy things I want/need, than get stuff I don't like/want and have to give it away. My aunt gives everyone a gift every year and it's VERY thoughtful of her, but 99% of the gifts, I don't want. LOL

Exactly! My friend called me last night while she was at one of the malls and asked me what I wanted. I told her right out a gift card to Target or Best Buy please. I did not want an article of clothing, I really don't like that. I would rather have a gift card that I can put towards a photo printer or my digital camera media then a sweater.
I always get some kind of clothing from my cousin and I just want to say please just give me a gift card. Even a CVS gift card I can use!

I'm not buying gifts, I don't think. maybe some small ones for the people at work, just cause everyone does that. But everyone got everyone else bottles of wine last year, so it's just a gesture...I had sooo much wine! but i got everyone little bags of good coffee from the free trade coffee place by my house, instead of wine. My parents haven't asked me what i want, but when they do, i'm going to say the Mirage tour video. It's on Amazon, and i don't have the whole thing. That's after i say..."you don't have to buy anything for me!!!"... :D

So, do I. I went on a wild goose chase last week at Walgreen's. They had Xmas mailers on sale and I had to go to 4 different stores before I could find them.
Of course the stuff is nowhere ready to be mailed out yet.

Well I haven't bought my families gifts yet, but I know what I am getting them all. All i have to buy for is my mom dad and sister. I like to be creative when buying gifts for them. So last year im saying ot myself, well how has stephanie(my sis) treated me this year. I said well basically like crap. So i went to spencers and bought her a fake piece of crap  .
Then, my dad is obsessed with Golf so i bought him exploding golf balls.
My mom got a movie.
This year im leaning towards getting my dad the fart pen or the dashboard jesus. cant decide yet.

I just have to find a gift for my mom. She's difficult to shop for. I think I'm going to try something non-tangible this year, though. She always used to say she wanted to ride in a hot air balloon. I found a place that does scenic rides out in Perris, so I want to reserve a flight on one of her days off Christmas week and trick her into driving out there. They also do sky dives, which is something *I've* always wanted to do, but I don't think she'd go for that .

Your mom is adventurous, Tiff!! I couldn't imagine doing any of those things. I'd pass out on the way down and wouldn't be able to pull the cord. ;) And hot ar balloons? Hell no. I'd have a stroke.
I like the idea of giving her something memorable instead of something materialistic. A very, very nice idea.
If all else fails, though, get a fake scratch ticket.

Wrapping is my favorite part. And I go overboard when it comes to making them look good. I tie ribbons around every one, stick bows on them, make sure the corners are clean and wrinkle-free, you name it.
I just wrapped most of the stuff I bought yesterday and now I'm depressed that I don't have anything else to wrap. I bought one of those Febreze Scent Stories things for my mother and boy, was that a bitch to wrap.

ME, TOO!!! And when i'm buying the paper and ribbon and such, i carefully consider matching, prettiness of paper, who i'm buying for, and everything. i love it. I saw one of those febreeze things in the store the other day, it's all oblong and stuff? For oddly shaped things, like stuffed animals or vases or bottles of wine, i often opt for the tissue paper coming out of the top in a nice flower shape with complimentary regular paper attached just so around the outside, with cascading "curl ribbon" to seal the top a bit. :p I feel your pain of having nothing else to wrap  perhaps you'll pick up a few last minute gifts for someone... :D My edges aren't always perfect, but usually nearly so, and i make up for it with paper and ribbon creativity. It's hard for me to let a box go wrapped without at least utilizing two different colors of ribbon. :p how weird someone else is as fetishistic about it as I. Of course, you are a designer, so... ;) :xoxo:

I hate surprise gifts...
Example; The infamous story my Mother loves to tell about how us three boys (F**khead Bill, Geary & myself) found the our wrapped presents in her closet before Christmas and we opened 'em up...But realizing she would kick our asses for doing so we re-wrapped the presents...in different Christmas paper!!!!!!!

Well, I'll make any kind, but so far I have made a chocolate fudge from scratch (this frosting is to DIE for, made with butter baby), a carrot cake with yummy cream cheese frosting (again, with buttah), and a yellow cake (from a mix) with that yummy fudge frosting from scratch. You'd never know the yellow cake was a mix unless I told you, very good. The carrot cake was a big hit at Thanksgiving.
I also hate that waxy store frosting. Some are better than others but they're just not right.

LOL, thanks  It was so fun to see people's reactions on Thanksgiving, "Did you make this from scratch?", hehe. Especially my Grandmother who really values that sort of thing, got points with Gram!
Yeah, that's kind of the best thing about making them. To bring suprise yumminess and good cheer to your friends and loved ones. IMO. "I'd like to bake the world a cake...." :D

Last year I got him a Hotwheels car and a gift card to KB Toys. He was not too thrilled with the car but loved the gift card. KB is going out of business so I was thinking maybe a Toys R US gift card as long as I can get one at Walgreens and not have to go to that store it's ok.
My cousin (his Mom) said he likes Old Navy so maybe I could get one there but I think the Toys R US card might be a better idea. I don't want to get him clothes either. I hate getting clothes.

Yeah, if he's fussy a gift card might be the way to go. Old Navy is pretty cool too since your buck goes a long way.

I am mostly done. I have a few gift cards to buy, and I want to get my mom a cashmere sweater. Of coarse, I have Sara to buy for, and usually go overboard on. Her big ticket items this year are a Leapster and a Barbie camcorder.... spoiled rotten I tell ya.....
I got the assholes... uh, I mean... kind folks at work done and over with. Everyone got candles, except for the one man I work with, and he brings sausage and crackers to work all the time, so I got him a cutting board and knife so he'll quit tearing the hell out of the paper plates!
And about the lotto tickets, I get them every year from my father in my stocking at my folks house. It's his own little tradition.

WOO HOO! I went to Old Navy yesterday afternoon and I got something really cute. It was one of those fleece pullovers with a hood and it said Old Navy on it with really cool writing and it had flames drawn on the side of the sleeves. It was on sale, too. I also got a throw that was green and red for my Dad. :blob2:
I got my other cousin (his sister) a gift card to Charotte Russe. I love that store myself. The line to get a gift cert to Providence Place Mall was way too long but there was no line surprisingly in CR. So CR it was.
I got my friend a gift card (yes Jimmy another gift card :p  ) to Filenes so that she can buy her own perfume.
I was going to stop in Yankee Candle to get a few votive stocking stuffers but I was hungry and UNO's prevailed.
Today it's Walgreens for a Toy R Us gift card and Kmart the get one more shirt for Dad and I am 97% done.

So hectic but I'm all done. This year I have some delicious bite-sized clumps of air for everyone.
Indeed I have nothing for everyone, not due to complete disregard, but due to the fact that this apparent 'everyone' is in fact 'no one'. What I mean is, there's no one to give a present to. Boo hoo for me. Well there is my dad but he's not really a person and I think that's a requirement when taking on the role of recipient.

What a coincidence, i got people clumps of air, too!!! I may spend some of my best buy coupons to get something for my parents, after all, it's not actual money. Also, i will be at their house, and they are getting presents for me, so it seems scroogely not to. Although, I think one of my presents from them is "monAY" as my mom put it earlier this week, so, if someone is giving you money, doesn't it logically follow that they wouldn't want you to spend any of the money you already have on them? Isn't their goal to make your overall pile of money bigger, and if they're your parents, to help bring you from the brink of the wolf's maw, rent wise?

I bought my Mother an item she will get a kick out of, If it doesnt cause her to have a heartattack...She loves Mickey Mouse, Or any ol' Disney stuff, So I found the newly released "Mickey Mouse Club 1955" DVD set so she should get a kick outta that along with more John Wayne merchandise that she collects as a hardcore fan.

Well, I went out today to do get most of it done. I went to Walgreen's to get my cousin the Toys R US gift card. I went to Kmart. What is the deal with Kmart anyway? I bought a shirt for my Dad that was on sale in the flyer and under a sign that read "40% OFF! When I get to register it does not ring up for the sale price. Then they had to call to find that it was on sale and then they needed a manager to override it. :distress:
Well, that was not all. I finally found a Xmas throw for my Dad and that was under a sign that read $10.49 well that rang up for $11.99. I was like 'I don't mean to be a pain BUT that is also on sale $10.49." They now had to call that department to check that price. :distress: The clerk comes back with the sign saying that it was not supposed to be up BUT that they would honor it. Of course when I went a few weeks ago to look for a Xmas throw it was nowhere to be found now they had 3 types. I blame Martha Stewart.
Now I have 3 throws for my Dad. I think I might keep the one that I got at Old Navy for myself. ;)

Pattie, that ticks me off to no end when the register doesn't match what they have on the shelf. It's so irritating and they look at you like YOU are the pain!
Anyways...I'm done shopping...I have a couple of things to wrap for my mom, but after that, I'm 100% done. We all agreed to not go crazy this year.

No Kidding. I bought a total of 3 items at Kmart. 2 of the items rang up at the wrong price. That would be like 66.6% of my purchase was incorrectly priced. That's not good for Kmart. Buyer Beware at Kmart!

Oh gee. I know how you feel. I am always losing things right in front of me. I have all of my stuff in my room and I am sure that I can still lose something.
I am trying to keep track of everything and I also made a list on my PC to make sure that I don't forget a gift. Yes, I am that bad!
What do your parents like to do? Any hobbies or special places that they like to go to?

I will probably get my dad something golf-related. My mom is another story. She likes Victorian-looking stuff. Maybe I'll get her a gift card to one of the stores she likes.

I had to go to the main Post Office in Providence today. Oh MY what a line there was in there! Of course I had a package for a friend that I was slow to get together and I forgot to put somethings in another friend's package so off I went. I also had a few cards to mail.
This older lady was in back of me with some kind of a cart that she had her packages in. A lady that works at the PO was going around asking if people needed any forms for like insurance, delivery confirmation, etc. I took some and filled them out. Well the older lady said that she needed one. Then the PO lady told her she needed to fill it out. Well the Old lady had a total hissy fit in the PO. "Why should I fill it out?" "I have to do their work for them"! "Can you believe that?"
Well, I wanted to turn around and explain to her that the PO is just trying to move the line a bit faster by making sure people have the stuff filled out already. You know so people don't complain about the line. Like this OL did as soon as she walked in with her 'cart'.
People it's the holidays. Let's try and be a little bit nice to each other. Maybe if some people did not wait to the last minute they would not have that problem.
I know I was slow but I really did not mind waiting. It is supposed to snow tomorrow so I really had to get those packages out today.
I had a nice lady help me find the sale items in Walgreens this afternoon so I can't complain.

Why thank you. I hate to wrap that's why I get gift bags. I love them. I do wrap a few gifts up for my Dad cause it is fun to open them on Xmas day.
I agree with you there! Wrapping gifts is a pain in the ass especially when the shape of it is odd and when the item rips through the paper. Gift bags are the way to go!!

I always say this every year that I am not going to over do it but guess what I did!
I have mailed out three packets ~ one to my dear penpal in England, one to my friend Sal in Mass and one to a dear couple of friends also from Mass ~ (Mr. & Mrs. Wetcamelfood) :)
I buy for a few people at work, still have to pick up a bottle of Baileys for Dr. Daddio when I hit the package store on Wednesday.
I buy for my neighbor/friend Jodi and her two children and her nephew. I have one more item I want to pick up for Jodi ~ a sterling silver charm that will go on the bracelet I gave her when her daughter was born this past March.
I am done with my siblings with stocking stuffers from the Hard Rock Cafe and just need to put some cash in cards for them to complete it.
I bought a few things for my sister's boyfriend who is spending Christmas with us, he lives with a couple of roommates~no family in CT, his dad is in Florida and his mom passed away a few years back so we want to make him feel at home here.
My mom's friend Roxanne always buys me a gift so I picked up something for her and my landlord's also gift us with chocolates and popcorn and a trinket for the house so I get her and her husband something relating to their dog~ a pug named Mugsy~ I found a small stuffed pug with earwarmers on.
I have gotten lots of things for my mom as she really treats me well during the holidays (last year I got a DVD-VHS combo), I know she has gotten me a couple of pieces of jewelry this time around as I kind of hinted on them~gold hoop earrings and a gold chain with cross pendant. I bought her a robe, lounge wear, an Heartwood Creek angel by artist Jim Shore and Lo-carb chocolates as she is on the Aktins diet. I still feel like there should be something else I should get her. I will see on Wednesday as that will be my last trek out.

I'm done except the package I received today had men's trousers and a man's sweater in it instead of the woman's sweater and handheld electronic game that I actually ordered. Ugh!! So now I have to go to Macy's and exchange, but I can walk there from work anyway. It's about a mile though and I already walk 1 1/2 miles to work. But Downtown Crossing is cool this time of year so it might be sort of nice to get down there.
Tonight it is wrap city for me, baby! I want to get it done sooner rather than wait until X-mas Eve like I usually do :D
I do still have a package in the mail due to arrive on the 23rd. Oh yeah, and my crescent moons are coming just after X-mas since I won't see that friend until then.
How about everyone else?
Pattie, I love throws, I really want a down throw since the blanket I use is huge and messy and I never put it away! It's always cold in my apartment. Nice gifts for your dad. My dad needs them too, his are looking ratty! Didn't think of it though, he got a robe. Boring, but it is sharp looking, it's a red plaid from The Gap.

Try Old Navy, they had some last Friday and I paid like $7.50 for it. I got the Xmas one at Kmart on Saturday. It was regular $14.99 but I got it 'on sale" for $10.49 They had 3 different designs. It was a Martha Stewart. I also got him a cheepy one for $5.00 at Brooks a few weeks ago.
