View Full Version : Annoying people at work...

So I am in newsroom - so basically there this island and four of us sit around it, we each have our own space and there are large cabinets in the middle...so it's more cubicle like I guess...

Anyway - it sucks being in a room with a bunch of people while trying to work - one guy has like three different audio sources on - one with our station playing, one on his computer playing God only knows what - and he's editing sound bytes (with no head phones) PLUS he's a whistler..so he's constantly whistling and making me want to insert sharp objects into my eyes.

Seriously. I'm SO annoyed at him right now I just want to hit him lol...

he also will just start laughing uproariously and then wait for one of us to ask what's so funny ( I never do) - I find that So annoying...just say, "hey check this out" or something if you want to share it with people....but no - he laughs all obnoxiously and waits for someone to bite....which brings me to the guy in the corner - who always bites and talks all the damn time - he believes he's part of everyone's conversation and I"m ready to just strike them all lol....

just hd to vent because I'm on my last nerve right now

I love description of laughing guy. Cause i hate that, too. It makes me want to slap them. My mom does that a lot, actually. I'm glad you posted this, because a second ago i was so mad at my boss. He's such freakin moron, i hate when he talks to me. Sometimes i ask him random easy questions, just cause i think he already knows the answer. When he doesn't, and he tries to come up with something, he always says the stupidest, basic ****, that anyone who was not an amoeba could think of. Then he tells that to me. I'm like "I'm only asking you because i thought you already knew, not because I can't figure out how to find out if we both don't know. But thanks for the ****ing EXTENDED explanation that i should call so and so to find out. Really, never woulda thought of it."    And, of course, there is still condescending TUSK guy. Every day, I contemplate quitting. Of course, I can't cause i need money, but...

Stupid Tusk guy - I forgot about him - he's still around?

Yeah - laughing guy has just turned up his radio - and now there's a guy vaccuuming outside of the newsroom (construction mess) - SO loud...

In less than an hour, however, I will be in a sound-proof studio - so I'm looking forward to that...

This is when I say, "Oh for f's sake!". I used to work in a room with a bunch of guys and all hell broke loose a couple of times. I really hated it. Now I have a cube and everyone around me is really quiet most of the time which I love because I am easily distracted. However, my boss loves to dial her phone on speaker, ugh, it's so loud. Then we have cell phone guy who's phone rings wicked loud and he speaks even louder. You could hear him on the other side of the building. Oh don't even get me stahted.... :]

Last week I did lose it....laughing guy had this library of noise on - and then the constantly talking guy's intern turned the tv volume up to hear a sports story - I was on deadline and could not work with all the noise - so the intern starts talking with someone else and I muted the tv - she was like, "Deanna, did you mute the tv?" I said, "Yes, you were talking, not watching the SPORTS story - and I'm trying to write a newscast..." then I asked laughing guy to use headphones - and no - he just turned down the volume - better than nothing I guess

Even at home I'm a tyrannt though - I NEED quiet and get really edgy and bitchy when I don't get it

laughing/whistling guy was not here today - it was nice and quiet...but constantly talking guy was still around - the only annoying thing he did today though - he and two other guys were talking baseball - the two guys left but talking guy just kept talking...as if addressing me...I was like, "yeah - I don't like baseball...." he stopped talking.

My boss is like a tornado... He goes around randomly causing chaos and making a **** load of mess, throwing paper around and stuff. Then I have to come and calm the place down and clean up after him

I've found the best way to work is to work around him.. Let him mince around doing whatever unimportant task he's deemed himself fit to do, and then I'll just get on with the important jobs.. It seems to work and I keep him in his job that pays twice the sum mine does :( .

Omigod, he talks when no one is there! I like to go...."Who are you talking to?" If it's something i don't care about, but i'm standing right there. :D It's a little more hostile and rude, so of course i do it... Then I look around scornfully...

Oh the injustice... This is one of the most frustrating things about being "managed". The manager's job seems to be to take credit for your work and be paid handsomely for it, all the while not treating you 1/4 as well as you should be treated. How do people get into that racket?

I have no idea how he's "managed" to keep his position for as long as he has.. I basically run the business day to day. I'm a manager myself but at least I try to look after the interests of my staff too, I'm not sure on his agenda really. All I know is he's better off sat in his nice chair in the office and out of the way... You know the type, they think they can show you they can do your job better than you can but end up making an ass out of themselves trying... The best bit is the clothes... He wears a suit with ingrained dandruff in the lapel and knees in his trousers that have worn through virtually.... I'm sure he sleeps in them..

I have one girl I work with who refuses to shut the hell up. She talks non stop and usually, it's about herself which drives me absolutely INSANE. And if someone else walks in, she repeats the story. And even worse, if you are talking to someone, she always finds some way to relate it to something she's gone through. Katarina...you? chap my ass :distress:

I'll be sitting here and she'll be rattling off some BS I don't really care about so I end up staring into space and totally not paying attention. Rude, perhaps but if you were stuck here with her for 9 hours, you'd want to rip your hair out too.

Marissa, still at work. Until 8.

I hear that! I can't function when I have more than one mode of input at one time. The only time I get things done is when I'm somewhere totally silent -- when my mom's not home or late at night. But even during a test you expect people to be quiet, right? My English professor handed us something to do today and said "okay get started on it" and THEN read the directions. And commented on how to write it and what to look for and... :distress: It's just so annoying to have somebody break into your thoughts like that, it's like having somebody switch radio stations on you.

Is she your boss? No? Do you have to be nice to her? Cause if that was my face, I would stare at her with the most bored, disdainful look i could. If she didn't get that, i would just interrupt her. She sounds like a serial yakker, though :sorry:

She's not my boss but she thinks she should be a manager because she's been here for two years and she's just so fabulous and everyone loves her  (and they don't). I'm nice to her because i'm a decent person but I can't stand her. She's a cronic complainer to the maxx (two X's for the emphasis) and a mega asskisser out one side of the mouth and then talks about people out of the other side. She just bugs. At first she was alright but the more I got to know her, the more she irritated me. I just want to do my job and go home but there is so much drama here that it's out of control and she totally doesn't help make my workday less sucky.

I have a co-worker that loves to butt in on everyone's conversation. I will be talking to somebody privately and she just comes over to my desk and stares at me. I am so tempted to ask her what the hell she wants and to get the hell out. It is funny because she does that to everybody and we all just ignore her. You would think she would figure it out but she doesnt. Also she loves to tell us the same stories over and over again like we give two ****s. She is also a drama queen too. Everything is a big deal and she loves to walk around slamming stuff or stomping when she is angry. It is too funny. Luckily she sits on the other side of our office now so I only have to see her a couple times a day.

I still work with the same group of assholes. My counterpart can't stand me, I think because she's afraid I'll know more then she does. So, the big boss came in today (good guy) and asks me if I saw the pics of his 15 month old. I told him no, and he said he'd be right back after a meeting to show me. My counterpart wasn't around during this conversation. Anyhow, 15 minutes later, my counterpart is at her desk, I'm at mine, and big boss came over and told me to come there. So I followed him to my supervisors desk, and guess who's hot on my heels? MY COUNTERPART! So, he has my super bring up the pic of his lil' one, and counterpart says "oh! I thought this was work related". And just sits there like she's been invited. That woman gets on my nerves so bad. Damn, I wish I had the balls to start my own business. I'd get away from all these assholes.....

OMG - I used to HATE that in school....that was always happening in my English class - the prof would hand out an exam - tell us to start - then go on and on about stupid crap that really if someone didn't know then they'd deserve to fail the damn test. You'd think that by college people would not need to be told to put their names on the test or to use a #2 pencil on certain types of tests...but this damn lady would go over ALL OF IT - every exam - it was SO annoying....

OK! Let me tell you a good one. (This one won't piss you off! )

Today, my counterpart was really involved in some inventory counting. It has to be done once a month, and she's very serious and involved in it, so we just leave her be unless she needs something. Anyhow, an engineer (Mr. Prankster) walks in while she's out, and proceeds to rub lotion all over her glasses. Afterwords, she comes back in, puts on her glasses, gets a little chuckle out of it, and cleans 'em up. I was crackin' up, and she just went back to work. Little later, Mr. Prankster comes in, she's not there, uses MY lotion, and smears it all over the earpiece on her phone. A few minutes later when she got back, the phone rang, and, of coarse, when she picked it up, she got lotion all over her ear! The funniest part of it was that she didn't let on that anything happened. I was LMMFAO, my other co-worker was LHMFAO, and she just sat there. When she turned around, all I seen was a big white blob and that was it. I was in stitches. Tears rollin' down my face... I thought I was going to black out I laughed so damn hard. She was pissed! I don't think she said 2 words until right before she went home! It was hysterical.....

I got my kicks today!

People who work in cubicle situations need to realize the other people around them can't concentrate when they're being loud. Thankfully where I work we're allowed to use headphones. When the noise level gets above 102 decibles, I turn the radio on and listen to my headphones. Sometimes I have to turn the volume up pretty loud to drown out the noise. When it gets to the point where I can't think .. I GO ON FREAKIN BREAK!!! And if it's one of those days when everyone is wound up and loud all day long and don't get much work done, if she asks, I just tell the boss I had too many interruptions and she knows exactly what I'm talking about and just shrugs... :distress: - what can you do.

Okay, here's my totally super annoying cubicle thing... the guy next to me, who is supposed to be this big Christian, yanno.. and I'm NOT slamming the faith because I consider myself to be Christian too, anyway... he gets ticked off at his computer every single day, without fail, and it's because we got new operating systems installed on our computers a few months ago and he seems to have these problems that no one else has, every day, all day long. He'll sit over there and swear out loud... he uses the F* word, he says Go*damnit and also B*tch and then start pounding on his keyboard, then he'll inevitably call the Help Desk and drag those poor people into it. They usually can never pin it down to anything but a big waste of time. I've never heard such a foul mouth in an office setting. I'm half tempted to say something, but I work in one of those offices where if I did say something about his swearing, I would be the bad guy because I should just accept it. My opinion is, this guy just can't seem to stay focused on his work. He's one of those ones who flexes his time to the point of breaking, takes tons of vacation, sick days and medical leaves. Honestly, there have been times that I've gotten up and walked out of my cubicle because I felt afraid he was gonna start throwing things or maybe one day he's gonna bring a gun... seriously! He really needs to find a different job. :]

So I can relate when the crap goes on and on, every day, day in and day out... it really wears on your last nerve.

It is hard to deal with these situations. I was being harrassed for a while and I opened my mouth, and yes I was the bad guy. You really do have to weigh that carefully. Perhaps it is anonymous note time? It sounds like this person may be too much of a mess to get through to. His karma will catch up with him though.

Yikes.... Sounds like a basket case - although I gotta say that I'm about to just go postal myself - this guy is either multiplied his loudness today - or I'm just at that point...

He's got his radio on to our station - in addition he's listening (loudly) to some foreign newscast on the internet (not even sure he knows the language it's in...AND that has NOT stopped him from whistling/humming ALLLLL DAY!!!! I can't go on break all day - I do put my headphones on - but can still hear him quite clearly....I'm like seeing myself in my head yelling and throwing his noise making things away and telling him to SHUT UP!!!! SHUT UPPPPP!!!!!

Thanks Amber, that made me grin. I'd like to put him in a stream. He's actually bright, just immature and egocentric. But he's loud and charming. Blech. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. My boss had nothing but nice things to say to me and said it was very close which is why it took so long to decide. Ultimately he is more assertive. That isn't even true, he's just louder. :distress:

I hate that too. He is going to mess up but for our department's sake I don't wish that. Maybe he can mess up where it just affects him. I found out he applied for it while we were all out one night and I said to him, "I didn't think you were that committed to [company name]." and he said, "I can be bought." Do you work in an office environment too? Corporate working is just inherently evil. There's this stupid ho that I see around this area who I used to work with and she used to gossip about all the "gay" people. Man I still hate her. I pretend not to see her, I don't think she's ever noticed I work in the area, too self-involved. And I give people a lot of slack so you have to be pretting effing annoying/rotten to be on my radar as sucking.

My last boss was gay and he was the best boss I ever had. We knew he was gay the day he walked in to be interviewed, at least I did. And so what? Fortunately we were in a very tolerant awesome group of people. Not so much here.

My ex boss has the most irreverent sense of humor. When we get together we say things no one should ever say.  He's very good looking, he's like a Will type on Will and Grace. Actually, probably Will and Jack fused together because he is so f*cking funny. But he would never wear drag. He has perfect fashion sense, strange huh? Thanks for the sympathy regarding the job. My boss wants to help get me ready for another promotion when it becomes available. Who knows when that will be but I appreciate her willingness to groom me for it.

My counterpart has been groomed for and given her promotion in our new area. Since she sucked the most ass, she has a guaranteed job, and the fate of my job will be decided tomorrow. It's a long story, and I'm not going to piss myself off by getting too detailed, but 3 of 5 of us are waiting until tomorrow to find out if we have jobs, or if we have to find different jobs within the company. Which would probably be a blessing, but nerve-wrecking at the same time, because we're given 6 months to find a job within, or we take our severance and leave. That's NOT an option for me.

Send some good karma my way. I'll need it for my 8 am meeting tomorrow.

Every morning without fail one can hear his 3-note whistle on repeat even while one's on the westside and he's on the eastside of a huge campus. Drives us all nuts! I find myself walking briskly while fantasizing of a treelimb crashing down on his head.

... the guy next to me, who is supposed to be this big Christian, yanno.. He'll sit over there and swear out loud... he uses the F* word, he says Go*damnit and also B*tch and then start pounding on his keyboard, then he'll inevitably call the Help Desk and drag those poor people into it.
Next time...sigh loudy...and mutter "what would jesus do?"

It's a mantra or a chant. It can mean whatever you want it to mean, kind of like a prayer or setting an intention.
Buddhists use it to bring themselves closer to the wisdom and enlightenment of Buddha.
If you've ever been in a room with a bunch of people chanting it, it sounds pretty cool and has a certain "vibration" to it. It's very powerful, IMO.
I've used it when I was conflicted or needed calmness.
I prefer the eastern philosophies. :)

Well, my meeting wasen't as gloom and doom as I thought. I was so nervous during it thought, I was fidgiting... and I hate when I do that. Basically, they're eliminating one of the 8 hour positions, (that's me) but they're doing it by seniority. I have seniority over the other 8 hour person, however she's the asskisser. She's the one that's being preened for the promotion job, but that won't take place for another year. We will find out how their "seniority rules" thing goes when the time comes. I was also told, that, because of my situation, they would help find a different job if it comes to pass that I'm the one who has to go. See when Jason died, they got me off of 12 hours and put me on 8 hours in a different position to help me out. From my understanding, I had lots of pull from upper management, and they took care of me. I was told they know my situation at home hasen't changed, and they are willing to help out again if needed. I don't expect them to wipe my ass everytime something happens, I just expect my seniority to mean something when it should, and that I should be able to keep my current job. So, we shall see.

That's my rant. It's the weekend... I'm leaving it at work, and I'm going out tonight!!!

OMG that reminds me of my dad's secretary where I work. Every day when I go in at 7am she meets me at the door with her latest story about her daughters wedding and she goes ON AND ON AND ON AND ON! Then when someone else walks in she starts talking about it again and again and she keeps saying "like i was telling jeremy before you got here...and he was laughing" I WAS NOT LAUGHING..I was going "mmhmm mmhmm yeah yeah yeah..uh huh.." Then when my dad walks in she shuts up and gets back to work. Too friggin annyoying for me. Now I am afraid to go in on Monday cause she is going to be talking my ear off about her weekend ...bridal showers, birthday parties...UGH cant wait! NOT!

I'm having such a hard time with Blurt getting that promotion. First, he is a musician and so over the past 2 1/2 years that I have been here has been part time up until about 6 mos ago. It was clear this job was his second priority. Second, he would also occasionally be out of town for weeks at a time touring. He wasn't serious about this job. Now all of a sudden he flies in and takes this promotion? I've been looking for a more permanent position here all along. It is extremely unfair and I am so mad. He's already annoying the hell out of people with his circuitous blabbering. Well good then, harumph. That's what they get.

I was told he is more assertive and has more experience. Apparently he was a QA manager at some point in his past. He has also been working more regularly ever since my boss has been here, which hasn't been that long. Maybe she didn't even know about his part-time history. Maybe I'm just making excuses for her.

If it makes you feel any better, the **** got deeper today with me at work. I am one of two 8 hour people whose job is on the line. They have to get rid of one 8 hour position. I have seniority over the other person, and so I have the decision to stay or go. Supposedly. The other person is being trained in a new system that is ultimately making the one 8 hour position go away. So today, my supervisor came up to me with a job post elsewhere in the company, and told me she thought I may be interested in it. At first it kinda pissed me off, because it's obvious she wants me gone, so her little pet can stay. But the more I thought about it, I said **** it, I'll apply for it so I can be away from the bull**** once and for all. So, I may be having a new job to bitch about here soon. We'll see....

I have to tell you what Blurt did yesterday, the guy who stole my promotion. He took some memory out of a woman's computer here a few days ago. She asked him if she could have it because she needed it but would give it back when she was done. He said he needed it for next week and no she couldn't have it. So she went and asked another guy we work with if he had any memory because Blurt wouldn't give hers back. He said he didn't and why wouldn't Blurt just give it to her. Then my boss said, "Just give it to her!" Someone from outside the department even came over and said, "Is there a problem?". So he finally said "I'm sorry, I'm being difficult." WTF??

I am sorry about Blurt, Sue. He sounds like a really big a**hole. Why do these people get all the great jobs? That would piss me off, too!
I work for a union so we are all equally underpaid.

Squeeky wheel gets the grease? Arrogant people do well in corporate environments because it is mistaken for confidence. I don't know. I did read a study that said nice people are paid less. Sorry to hear you're also underpaid.

I am self employed and work from home. I annoy the crap out of myself sometimes! But it works pretty well. I used to work for The City...and still do, but from home now and there was this one guy... well, more like five people I didn't like, but this one guy in particular who had worked for The City for like 25 years as a "graphic designer". I say "graphic designer" because he has no training. He just sorta picked it up over his 25 useless years. Anyway, he rides his bike in every morning and changes out of his sweaty riding gear into his lumberjack clothes. Living in Calgary, so close to the Rocky Mountains, a lot of people tend to dress like mountain men and carry around bags of granola! Anyway, he always stinks because of those gross sweaty riding clothes. And he does NOTHING all day. He makes himself sound like he's busy by asking retarded computer questions to people like "how do I change my password?". He's one of those union employees that has managed to find a way to do absolutely nothing and get paid by tax payer dollars. Makes me crazy! All other design staff with The City have around 10 - 20 projects on the go at any given time. He takes only ONE at a time. Because he's been there forever, they let him. Dork! I could go on for pages. So, I should stop!

Really? Interesting that nice people are paid less. I hate arrogance. At this one place I worked, the manager died of a heart attack and the guy was a such an *sshole, you can't imagine. When he died I felt sad in the sense that he doesn't have a positive legacy. There are no good stories to reflect on his life. Just that he was horrible. Pretty sad, really. :(

I hate arrogance too and the fact that someone would find it a desirable trait in an employee still confounds me.

It is very sad about that man. My Mom once worked with a really awful man and it did a number on her. She also worked with someone who did nothing. There are difficult people everywhere. I worked from home on Friday. I found when I got laid off that I loved working from home. Even though technically I wasn't working I felt like I was. And I get to work from home occassionally with my current job. It's sooo much less stressful and any way I can reduce my stress I will!

When two (or more) people are working a desks that are put next to each other, switch their telephone cords. With all those cables lying around it will take some time before they find that one out!

Put a peice of onion or a clove of garlic inside the mouthpiece of a phone. Give it some time for it to fester and build up a strong odor. Then call them and keep them on the phone for as long as possible.

It is allways a good habit to lock your computer before heading off for coffee or a smoke. When someone forgets and leaves a Word document or an email open, type a single word somewhere in the text. “f*ck” or so will do nicely. They’ll never notice and send it out.

Get a hold of someone's cell phone and change the greeting banner to say "NO SERVICE". Many cell phones have greeting banners on them that you can personalize to say whatever you want them to and it stays on there when you're not using your phone. Also, when there is no service where you are, most cell phone companies have a banner that pops up on your screen saying "no service".

Take a can of non gel shaving cream, and put it in a freezer. When it is frozen remove the bottom of the can and put it in co worker's drawer. When it melts it expands and explodes all over everything.

Go into MS Word or similar program on co-worker's computer, and add an entry to the AutoCorrect feature. This is a very simple prank that will send the novice user into a frenzy. Configure the AutoCorrect option to replace the word "the" with the phrase "you suck!". They will usually panick and start scanning for viruses.

Take clear tape and tape the underside of the mouse. Make sure you take the sticky end of the tape and apply it to the bottom of the mouse so it locks the ball in place. The victim will most likely check the connections in the back, reinstall drivers, reboot, etc., before they realize what has happened.

Do a "Print Screen" of the user's desktop, and then paste the image from the clipboard to a photo program, and save the image as a bitmap. Then, set the 'snapshot' of their desktop as the actual desktop wallpaper. (You'll have to hide the Windows status bar, and move all their desktop icons into a folder, which you can hide conspicuously in the corner or something.) The user will see their desktop as always, but everything on it will appear to be frozen when they try to click on it...sending them into a rebooting and virus scanning fit!

This will mostly only work with people with very little PC knowledge. Stick in a floppy in there floppy drive. They will be unable to boot up windows until the disk is out. This is fun to watch.

Try to find a very obnoxious CD laying around. Preferably a reggae or rap CD. Pop it in their CD ROM. Put up the sound full blast by double clicking on the volume control on the bottom right. On normal configurations the audio CD will autoplay when windows first starts up. The person starting up there PC in the morning will definitely be embarrassed.

This is for that special person you just cant stand in the office, the one who talks on the phone all day with their boyfriend/girlfriend and gets personal e-mail all day. Go into their e-mail and change their defaults to autmatically "blind carbon copy" their boss or supervisor. Heads will roll!

Change the coffee in the office coffe maker to decafe. Wait about three weeks(or untill you think everybody has gotten over their caffine addiction)and switch to expresso!

Try "password securing" someone's screen saver. First I suggest changing the screen saver to "scrolling marque" and inserting your own word or phrase, "Mr. Jones (president or supervisor) eats SHlT" or something to that effect.

With someone who is on the phone a lot during work - This works if you have phones that the handset comes apart. Take the handset apart and put scotch tape over the mouthpeice inside. They can still be heard, but they have to talk loud to be heard. The next day take it off, and put it in the earpeice. Usually they will be yelling to the other person on the line the next day, and won't be able to hear them. When they complain about the phone, and get a replacement, do it on the next phone. After about a week you will notice the calls to be down considerably.

Depending where you are at you may have a cafeteria in you place of work. Every week most of them put out a menu so you know what they are serving. Usually it is done on Word or Excel, and not extremely fancy. With a little work, matching fonts, and images you can make your own menus, and post them by your desk. We had one co-worker avoid the cafeteria for 2 weeks because of the selection "fish head stew" etc... before he caught on. Works great with picky eaters.

Simply pop out the 'm' and 'n' key on someone's keyboard and reverse the two. Any flat tool will work. Just pry it with little pressure and they will easily come right off. Then just sit back and watch the confusion.

We used to do this to each other on my last job!

Also, right before we shut down, I had a Rumours album cover desktop. :(

I work at Dominos Pizza as a manager. You could imagine some of the people I work with, some who just can't get a "real " job.

One guy will come up when he isn't scheduled. He smells bad and he will follow me around and flirt and even when I ask him to leave, he laughs and think it's funny. Funny thing is, when he is supposed to work, there is always a problem. He is late. Bad thing is, I am so understaffed I can't fire the fat *uck.

I have another guy who LOOOOOVES to yell at me whenever I tell him which deliveries to take. He will pretty much say I am wrong and take what he wants.

I AM THE boss. There is no one higher. Yet I am at the mercy of these 40 year old men who treat me like **** because I am a 27year old women in charge of them in a job they don't want to be at.

I wish I had the balls to fire people and *uck it but I can't. :(

Wow. I shouldn't even be complaining. That really really sucks. Fire them anyway. Or one of them. The worst one. Easier said than done I know.
