Just logged on The Nicksfix and thought this was very beautiful. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving

Dear all Armed Forces Members~

On this Thanksgiving Day Eve~ here in Phoenix, my family and I are preparing to have a big celebration tomorrow~ and we are having lots of fun tonight getting it all ready. Pies are being made (most important) and all the food is being made ready tonight so tomorrow won’t be quite so crazy. We are having 25 people here so it seems to have turned into a party somehow. I am excited. It smells like Thanksgiving, and probably that is the best part about it. These particular smells cause memories to be made~ and memories to be remembered. That pumpkin pie makes me remember so many Thanksgivings gone by. I know each of you feels that, probably more than any of us here will ever know. So as I go about my duties as party planner for several different generations tomorrow, I think strongly about all that you have given up to be there. I can honestly say that before 9-11 I really never thought that there would ever be another real war, but on that day that childlike innocence drained out of my body. That morning in New York changed every thing. The oceans had failed to protect us. The Gods cried.

Many many times in my life when I have been sad or unsure about what I was doing, my Mom would say, “You are on a mission Stevie, you always have been~ it is your destiny.” So what is happening seems to be our destiny, yours and mine. It is what is happening to us now. Again I say, I wish the guardian angels to stand at your side~ I wish that you remain safe~

“And down the glorious pathway flew three singing birds. One was white, and one was green and one was gold as morning. Their singing was sweet, the thundering of hooves was loud~ the sound flowed like cool delicious water over his tired aching body. Words of his old nurse came back to him: The birds of Rhiannon…They wake the dead and lull the living to sleep. When he awoke, the battle was over. The pain was gone and all that remained was the song. In it’s tender radiance the Birds of Rhiannon hovered and sang.” This is the legend of the great Welsh Queen Rhiannon and her birds. I send you this. Tomorrow I will hum Rhiannon to myself and think of you…

Thank you so much
For everything that you do~

All my love,
Stevie Nicks

Well, I was not going to post this because it will sound like a brag - but now that I read that letter it seems appropriate and somehow relevant.

I am in the Waldorf Astoria in what very well could have been the same suite Stevie was in on 9-11. That letter is even more stunning and heartfelt because of that. I am truly thankful for Stevie and her incredibly beautiful message - once again, she touches the heart like no one else.

Thank You Ms. Nicks  :xoxo:

It was very nice of her to think of the troops in Iraq on the holiday.
I would like to point out two things, though. 9/11 and the Iraq War have nothing to do with each other. Our oceans did not fail to protect us, our president and National Security Advisor did.

But - I still like the letter anyway and think she knows that but was being supportive of the troops who had no choice but to go where they were ordered - a la making lemonade out of lemons!!!!!!! :wavey:

I think that there's a connection among those events. 9/11 spread in all Western world a sense of insecurity that made it easier for Bush & Associates to convince parts of the population in your Country and some others that outstanding evidence  was proving that Saddam Hussein was another major threat. JMHO

But - I still like the letter anyway and think she knows that but was being supportive of the troops who had no choice but to go where they were ordered - a la making lemonade out of lemons!!!!!!!

I agree - but I think most, and certainly I, take and took offense and significant issue with the way W manipulated that evidence and downright lied about it - Lord knows we have discussed that enough  - But and in any event - the letter is warm and caring so thanks to the lovely and magnificent Nicks for caring enough to share her thoughts, which I guess is the topis of this thread

What a beautiful sentiment.
I know I'm probably being a priss, but I can't help myself...Glaring grammatical error with the it's/its at the end of the letter!!! Please know, I don't live in a glass house...maybe I have "the gene"...My mom is an English professor and my mom & dad met at their first job out of college - as proof readers at Time magazine;)

My Mom used to teach English as well. I can be a total prick about grammar sometimes, but then I turn around and make grammatical errors in my posts at times, so I can't really talk.

I feel compelled to point out that W manipulated the situation, but I love what Stevie does because, as you said, those soldiers are doing what they're told to do, no matter what. And I think it takes a lot of courage.

Strand, you're too precious and have fun on your trip.
OK, now I'll be a REAL priss Strandie...
There's no such word as ALRIGHT.
Believe it, it's true.
It should ALWAYS be all right.
Again I totally DON'T live in a glass house, but sometimes I wish I did...in the latest Architectural Digest there's some GORGEOUS pix of some;)
But then again, we all know that our LaNicks speaks/writes in her own "language", the Queen of Poetic License.
All right! ;););)

Main Entry: al·right
Pronunciation: (")ol-'rIt, 'ol-"
Function: adverb or adjective
: ALL RIGHT
usage The one-word spelling alright appeared some 75 years after all right itself had reappeared from a 400-year-long absence. Since the early 20th century some critics have insisted alright is wrong, but it has its defenders and its users. It is less frequent than all right but remains in common use especially in journalistic and business publications. It is quite common in fictional dialogue, and is used occasionally in other writing <the first two years of medical school were alright -- Gertrude Stein>.

Indeed, I stand semi-corrected Strand. I don't know though...Is the "all right only rule" more of a British thing? My mom went to Oxford, so my whole being has a slight Anglophile current happening...Any across the pond ledgies know???

I tried to look it up on Oxford on line. I think Oxford is the superlative. But, it would not let me do it and I am not at home to look it up in mine.

BTW - I love it when people point out nuance in lang. because I certainly could ALWAYS stand to have more knowledge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VERY strict. Especially if you're on it for a long time (years) like Stevie; the longer you're on it, the worse the effects of eating that crap again. Eat a slice of pie and you will gain weight.
