Didn't see this posted yet, so I'm transcribing it.
From the Rolling Stone "500 Greatest Songs" issue, "In the News" p. 42...
---------------------------------------
Paging John McVie
SoundExchange, which collects royalties for songs played on satellite, Internet and cable TV radio, is searching for more than 30,000 artists it has checks for (totalling $1 million) -- including Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie, Collective Soul, and Ginuwine.
The company has collected $15 million this year and expects $35 million in 2005. "For older artists, they either don't have management or no one knows how to reach them," says John Simson, its executive director.
And sometimes -- as in the case of McVie -- publishing companies lose track of artists, no matter how well-known. "It's important we get in touch because moving forward, these checks will be much larger," he says.
---------------------------------------
So, Marty or Lis, can you please e-mail John and tell him to pick up his check?!?!?! It seems you two are the only people on the whole planet who can get in touch with him.

This is John McVie's management. Neither of the previous posters are John McVie. Do not fall for their blatant attempts at fraud. I will be contacting you regarding where to send Mr. McVie's royalties.

You guys are cracking me up. Alas, Villavic, I think he was heading to Hawaii as of late, not Peru. And Amber, John *has* no management, hence the lack of timeliness in picking up that royalty $! But good attempts, both of you.
Thanks for posting this info. I just e-mailed it to him in case he isn't aware he has $ to collect. So typical.

As recently as the liner notes for 'Say You Will,' John was the only one without management.
I believe there was no management listed for him in 'The Dance' liner notes either.
Our John is a no-frills guy! :)

Yup. On The Dance and LIB, he doesn't have management listed, either. That's bad ass!

Any reward should be split evenly among us. We at the Ledge have become his psuedo-management. :D

I do find it amusing that thanks to a concientious fan :) , that news reached the man within minutes, while Rolling Stone and the 'royalty' place/whatever it's called, are at a loss. :p

I guess these royalties are from stuff like The Chain and Station Man (is that ever played on the radio?!) where he has a writing credit? Whatever it's from, he deserves it.

Yeah, if that's all it is, it sounds pretty meager after all the blood, sweat and tears he's poured into that band. Guess that why he 'wished there was a Pre-Nup' LOL. Now *she's* got some *serious* money!!

Yes'm, I hear Station Man from time to time on a local classic rock station here in Oregon. (Was it KGON? Had to have been.) Always puts a smile on my face :] cuz I really love that oldie.
Lis, This thread gave me a good grin. If by some odd chance John McVie should email back letting you know the outcome of the "missing money", please let us know, if you can. I'm curious to know if it was a paltry sum or enough to take us all out to dinner. LOL!!!

I'm laughing so hard right now!!! Yes, I was joking that you should contact him, because I too thought, "Well, if it's printed in Rolling Stone, surely news would have reached him by now." I mean, when that magazine, especially, finally hits newsstands, half the stuff in it is months and months old already!
But thanks for zapping him a note! And I too would like to hear how it all comes out, if you ever hear. Perhaps we should contact a news organization or two: "Obsessed Fans Act As Famous Bassists' Accountant". Perhaps a press release is in order... ;)

So, are you guys saying that band members (as opposed to songwriters, or session musicians on all the solo albums) get no royalties from their performance on a track when it is played on the radio?
If so, that really sucks a**. John's bass parts, especially, are what really make many of the Mac songs truly standout tracks.

To my knowledge, only the people listed as songwriters get royalities when an FM song is played on the radio. I think it was Mick who said that he and John get their 'bread and butter' mainly from touring.

I used to work in the record industry and I was in a band for about 10 years that released an album on a "major" and I COULD be wrong but I believe non-writers are SUPPOSSED to get what is referred to as a "performance" royalty, like 1/100th of a penny or something miniscule...???

I assume he's employed by somebody else. :)
I don't think John feels he's 'out there' enough career-wise to justify the cost of management, at this point.
Same thrifty guy who, during the excess of the Tusk tour, chose to forgo his private limo, took the cash, and rode w/ the crew instead! My kinda guy.
