View Full Version : POLL: Who gets your vote for President?

Please tell us who you will vote for, or who you voted for if you were lucky enough to have early voting in your state.
I'm just interested to see how The Ledge voters stack up. If you'd like to declare your candidate by a text reply, feel free, but if you wish to remain anonymous, please still select your choice in the poll. Or, if your candidate wasn't listed, select the "Other" option and reply with your write-in choice.
And for those of you who aren't voting, say so -- I didn't leave you out!
For you "Other" voters, here's a complete list of declared candidates. But I'm sure Stevie or Lindsey would love your write-in vote!

I voted for Kerry on Saturday.
My county in Texas (Galveston) is still using optical-scan fill-in-the-bubble-with-your-#2-pencil forms. I spent the rest of the day trying to shake off memories of all those awful high school aptitude tests we were forced to waste a week on each year. :(
But I guess that's a safer bet than hanging chads or hackable electronic systems. Also, I read the disclaimer at the top of the form and it said the following (paraphrased):
"If you choose the straight-ticket vote option, but then vote for a candidate of an opposing party on a separate line, BOTH votes will be counted for that office."
     Ah, Democracy!!!

Unfortunately for you, I didn't read this reply to your earlier post quickly enough. The squad of pink stealth attack helicopters has already been dispatched to your location.
However, with any luck, you may be able to ward off an attack by signalling this week's secret code using the replica Ruby Slippers you were provided upon induction. If that doesn't work, simply assume the standard position upon the squad's arrival -- because you're screwed either way.
If you survive, please re-read your membership MANual. There are some things "The (Daisy) Chain" just does not consider funny, especially during an election year.

Who is saying I complain? I rarely, if at all, participate in political threads. I don't have an opinion on the things you guys talk about. I'm just not voting for either of them because I don't like them at all. When America gets off their high horse and allows more voice from other parties than just the main two, then I will vote for President. Until then, I will stick to county and state.

Well, maybe you should vote for a different party instead of nothing. The more support "different parties" get, the more likely they'll really be in the running, someday. May i suggest Camejo? :)

Yup, he gives them money while cutting 98% of social programs AND combat pay for the kids in Iraq, he sure is nice for sending kids to die over a lie, and his churchgoing values were certainly reflected when he killed almost 200 inmates while governor...and when he mocked Karla Faye Tucker after she died to a room full of journalists.
And, like I've always said, any man who waves at Stevie Wonder to get his attention just DESERVES to preside in the Oval Office each day.

heheh. Turdalot. I was shocked and appalled when i heard that schools near me....are closing their sports programs. Sure, it began with Pete Wilson, but Governator and Bush are extremely responsible. People don't understand that, really, all repubs (and even dems, too, but not as bad) economic policies do, is widen the gap between rich and poor.
Denouncing bigotry and interracial marriage in the same sentence? thanks to an education system furthered by people like him, now, people may be too dumb to even see how illogical that is. What am i talking about, may be?

Child, I've tried time and time again but posting a view on why you're voting for Bush on this board is about as effective as telling Helen Keller the phone is ringing and she needs to go and get it. When there are 6 people on this board who are pro-George Bush and only two ever post their views (me on occassion and that guy in FL who's name escapes me) there aren't going to be 89 million posts about politics coming from each one of us defending him. I don't need to and I don't want to. I'm too old (ha) to have to worry about justifying my beliefs when 5 seconds later, my opinion is written off (and it happens and perhaps you don't see it). And remember, what's superficial and ludicris to some isn't to others. Why am I voting for Bush? because I agree with his foreign policy and I want him to keep on keepin' on. Do I agree with him domestically all of the time? No. Not really. But IMO, we're not going to be a prosperous nation until we've fixed the situation we're in over there and I don't see Kerry as the man to do it. Again, my opinion.

But IMO, we're not going to be a prosperous nation until we've fixed the situation we're in over there and I don't see Kerry as the man to do it. Again, my opinion.
And it's stuff like that that gets easily dismissed and disregarded by people. No one ever says why they agree with him on this and that. I disregard pretty much everyhting that a Bush supporter says, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm uninterested in hearing what they have to say. I just won't take any stock in it, just like a Bush supporter won't take stock in a single thing I say.

It's too risky...Just like Eddie Vedder, who has always been a strong supporter of Ralph Nader, is voting for Kerry this year, because even the independents realize they need to get Bush out there...and they have to vote Kerry to do it..

a supporter on CNN this weekend said it best "Call me a spoiler if you will, but I'm voting for the future of democracy and the viability of an alternative multiple party system"
a two-party political system with Democrats slightly to the left and Republicans veering completely to the right do not make this country a democracy just dictatorship of two...
I want to vote for something not just against with hate, otherwise I might as well be an assassin (since I'm not powerful/rich/influential/political enough to be a dictator) to have my way...

Besides, I'm sure the second they get into a political posting contest with one of us dreaded, feared LIBRULS, bells and flashy-lights start going off at the FBI and Homeland Security office...

Kerry. And I supported Bush because I did not like Gore. But after 4 years of dividing and running the country down the toilet, I have changed my opinion of Al Gore. Oh yeah and Bush too. So from someone that is not a flaming liberal, Bush is a bad man, and he proves it everytime he opens up that toilet he calls a mouth.
I didn't like Kerry until the debates. So this Californian is voting Kerry even though he is a sure win here in LA county and the Golden State.

I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed that we haven't been able to convince the 9 Ledgies casting their support for Bush, why it's so crucial that he not have another four years in office.
It's not a matter of party allegiance... it's a matter of not giving this man more time to further erode our economy, our employment rate, our national security, our foreign relations, and our civil rights (to name but a few things).
The actions of this administration have been detrimental to everyone... Republicans, Democrats, et al.... in one major way or another.
In regards to Nader, I just read that his former running-mate, Winona LaDuke, is now urging people to vote for John Kerry. As are many of Nader's formerly biggest supporters.

The Bin Laden tape pretty much seals that. We're living in "1984."
Did you see this report that the tape was mis-translated? Bin Laden apparently is threatening any US state that votes for Bush...
http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/33124.htm
Here's an excerpt:
The respected Middle East Media Research Institute, which monitors and translates Arabic media and Internet sites, said initial translations of a key portion of bin Laden's video rant to the American people Friday night missed an ostentatious bid by the Saudi-born terror master to divide American voters and tilt the election towards Democratic challenger John Kerry.
MEMRI said radical Islamist commentators monitored over the Internet this past weekend also interpreted the key passage of bin Laden's diatribe to mean that any U.S. state that votes to elect Bush on Tuesday will be considered an "enemy" and any state that votes for Kerry has "chosen to make peace with us."
I don't know what the hell he's thinking. Just because a state gets a Kerry majority doesn't mean we have "chosen to make peace" with him. Still, not good news for those of us in "red" states. Although the local news is abuzz with stories of the highest early voter turnout EVER. In many counties, early voting this year surpassed total voting for 2000. Is it wrong for me to pray that Texas goes blue? (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease) :blob2:

But I really hope I can forget about a lot of this when the election's over. I know I should always consider politics to be very important, but I would hope there isn't as much to worry about after the presidential election's over. Of course, if Bush wins, I'll be worried about a lot of things, but I'll be powerless, which is both better and worse. But if I know there isn't anything left for me to do, I figure it would be easier to focus on my studies and relationships and all. The election has interfered with that. I know some may consider this extreme (though I'm sure others will understand), Bush has made me think on several occasions that death must be better than being gay. I certainly haven't acted on that notion and I wouldn't, but the depression that he has brought me has been really hard to take. I understand where you're coming from, Hillary.
No matter how much we say, some otherwise well-intentioned people will never "get" how much is riding in who wins this election.
For some, it's merely a matter of who may or may not raise their taxes, or who may or may not adequately defend the country from another terrorist attack. And for still others, it's merely a matter of pushing for their party to win.
But for us, it seems that our civil liberties are at risk. The very rights that are so easily taken for granted by those who don't have to fight for them.
If Bush wins (whether legitimately or illegitimately) tomorrow, our cause will be set back another four years, and then some.
He's a man who has no interest in pushing for gay rights, and, in fact, he's actively seeking to take back from us rights which we've already fought so hard to gain.
Even the most well-meaning non-minority heterosexual can't completely grasp what it means to be told you're a second-class citizen just for being who you are. Or what it means to be told that, even if you're one of the lucky ones in this life to have found your soul-mate, you could never legally marry them anyway. Not to mention the fact that if they ever become sick, you're not considered "family" and wouldn't have the ability to make decisions about their care. And, in many cases, you wouldn't even have the right to visit them in the hospital.
There's also the fact that, if your mate happens to be someone like Mark Bingham, a gay man who heroically helped protect our country from even more devastation on 9/11, or if they happen to be someone who loses their life in a terrorist attack as so many gays and lesbians did on 9/11, you are not entitled... unlike the heterosexual partners... to any financial compensation for your loss.
For many people, tomorrow is "just another election." Or it's all about who might raise their taxes a few dollars per year.
But for us, it seems like one of the biggest fights of our lives.
I'll be deeply disappointed if Bush wins tomorrow. Not because I'm anti-Republican, or that I want "my" party to win.
It will be because, in many ways, the decisions he has made, and will continue to make for the next four years, deeply impact my life and how I will be living it for years after he's become just another footnote in the history books.
However, and most importantly, he can't stop me from finding love, and he can't stop me from sharing my life with another man... even though he can prevent me from enjoying the most basic of rights afforded to my heterosexual peers in life and death situations.
Still, Hillary, it's important for you, and all of us, to remember that Bush winning tomorrow will only be the end of the world if we allow it to be.
Yes, it will be a huge blow, and, yes, it'll set our cause back several more years... but we'll keep fighting to be heard, and we'll keep fighting for our rights, and WE'LL keep moving forward and progressing even if others don't.
We've won many battles in the last 30 years, and we'll continue to win many more.
Tomorrow is one of our biggest battles, and if we lose, our fight will be even tougher... but we have to be strong and we have to make our voices heard.
"My love is stronger than their hate...."

I just voted for Kerry-took me two hours-lines out the doors-but if Bushie loses it will all be worth it.
only 10 minutes maximum to vote...The ballot was hella simple this year (I was ready since I saw what the ballot looked like last night online), But I wonder what the hell happened to the Independents for President on the Oklahoma ballots?
Oh well, I still was going to vote or Kerry/Edwards none the less...Just surprised to see no Indy's since it was never mentioned on TV.

I live next to door to the voting precinct and it's madness. People were even trying to park in my space. I figure I'll go out this afternoon before the 5 o'clock working crowd and after the seniors.

Yay, i just voted! voting is so fun. Also, the green party sent me a voter guide so it was pretty easy. I only voted not with them on one thing - collecting DNA samples from felons. Also, they didn't have an opinion on prop 70 (for you Californians) indian gaming, but i voted "no". hehehe.
oh, and of course for Kerry....

Thanks, you guys, for all the support. :)
I didn't intend to be so much a drama queen last night; I just got myself all worked up. But Johnny, I'm so glad you wrote me that post. It made me cry, but in a good, cathartic way. I know that we've come such a long way, and a setback like this will hurt so much, but I know we can still come out of it. And it means a lot to read that from another gay person who is seeing it as realistically as anyone can but can still see a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for being an inspiration.
Thank you, Hillary... I'm just trying to do what I can. I know a lot of people think I sound like the preachiest guy around... and maybe I am... but that's one risk I'm willing to take. We have to be heard, right? And we most definitely have to look out for one another, whenever and wherever we can.

I'll be voting in about an hour... before I leave for work.
Then I plan to wear the little "I Voted" sticker they give you, while I'm "on the clock"... that way, if anyone has forgotten to vote, they'll have a friendly little reminder. :)
And I have to echo Curtis' sentiments... this is all way too intense! Yikes!

I hit sensory overload status two days ago--I'm SO sick of all of this....I spent ALL Friday night talking politics with this guy at a bar lol...yes folks - that's just how sad I am --but it was nice to meet a male who was equally as sad as I ;)
Anyway - I just can't see political ads anymore without wishing my head would just explode....I really hope this ends tomorrow....meaning I hope it doesn't take 0388338 years to figure out who won
ANyway - this day will last a long time for me as we're carrying live election coverage from NPR all night - AND I get to go camp out at the Democrat's party tonight - to harrass all of the candidates into talking to me and our station  So I'm gonna be working til 3 or 4 in the morning tonight....:(

I'm in PA... Battleground-State Central. Lemme tell you, the amount of political ads on TV and radio these past few days has been astronomical. I didn't think they could possibly top the amount I've been seeing and hearing in recent weeks, but somehow they managed it!
On top of that, we've been receiving a half-dozen, or more, political phone-calls every single day. (Bill Clinton called twice on Sunday! ;) )
So I completely understand where you're coming from about being ready for your head to explode! And you know it's gotten pretty bad when you start talking back to pre-recorded messages! "That's a load of crap! Bush hasn't done anything for the 'working class'!" :o

Well this last Saturday I went to cover a Get Out the Vote Rally and in attendance (and speaking) was Hillary Clinton - that was pretty cool - never got to cover any high-profile folks like that back home...also if any of y'all are familiar with one of our Congresswomen - Louise Slaughter - she was there - she's pretty damn cool....
I've been sent to cover a lot at the Dem. HQ - so I'm hoping tonight will be fun and I won't have too much trouble getting people to talk to me...
So - though I'm a bit bitter about having to work so late - and not getting to come in any later tomorrow...I am actually looking forward to covering tonight :D

We're a dual licensee meaning WXXI has a television and radio station - we we'll have both TV and radio...I, however, work only on radio - so yeah - not visual at all...I'll be interviewing people - or even simply handing them a phone while our talk show host interviews them....
As the time nears I grow more and more nervous...

Nixxxed says I don't know what the hell he's thinking.
Why didn't Bin Laden think of this four years ago??? New York is usually a blue state...

see how the last 15 elections have been accurately predicted by the outcome of the Washington Redskins last home game before an election?
Seems that it the Redskins win the last home game before an election the incumbent wins. But if they lost that home game the incumbent has lost the election...
Hmm, Maybe that is why John Kerry was shown on ESPN thanking the Green Bay Packers for the win over the Redskins this past Sunday

Hey all, sorry I haven't been around, I 've been having some password issues...
ANYWAY...I voted today around noon and it wasn't bad at all! I went with my best friend and his 18 yeard old stepson and we all voted for Kerry. My husband went later and he voted for Kerry too.
And I must admit, everything was very civil, which surprised me a little here in heavily Republican Bucks County, PA!

There was quite a line at the borough building today, which I wasn't thrilled about, and had a bit of an anxiety attack while waiting... but I rode it out and was able to cast my vote. :D
One of my co-workers took the day off to work the election, and one of our patrons got there just as I was leaving. She said she was thrilled to see the "library folk" out doing their part for democracy. *hehehe*
Tonight was our board meeting at the library, which was business as usual. But after the meeting adjourned and patrons had left, the board members (all ladies, ranging in age from 45-78) were discussing the election, and Bush and Kerry.
I was EXTREMELY impressed when one of our members (who actually graduated with my mother) said she can't understand why Dick Cheney would even want to be on the same ticket with Bush, and questioned how he can "sit back and keep his mouth shut when the president descriminates against gays."
She said, "I love my kids with all my heart, and if one of them were gay, I'd be their loudest cheerleader. I certainly wouldn't support someone who wants to keep them from getting married."
I didn't say anything, as I was working and wasn't part of the conversation, but I was really moved by what she said. She definitely gained a million cool points in my eyes. :xoxo:
The other ladies all agreed with her, and added their thoughts... ranging from "two adults who love each other should be allowed to marry" to "they need to keep religion out of politics."
I also got a kick out of the way they blasted Bush for his drug & alcohol abuse and his "shady past," and they said he had no business telling anyone else how to run their life.
For the record, each of these women is "church-going," and three of them actually hold office in their church organizations... so the whole conversation was very impressive.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that.
Now I have to figure out how I'm going to afford sending massive fruit-baskets to each of our board members this Christmas!
(Wanted to add that one of the ladies said she wishes Bill Clinton was still in the White House. "I'd vote for him every election if I could. I don't care if he is a womanizer." )
