View Full Version : That's Alright Question and Mini Poll
Ok, I'm not sure how many versions of "That's Alright" there are out there. From what I can tell, there are three versions out there. I think one is from the BN era. Stevie is singing pretty slow, her voice has a lower pitch with just guitar in the background, and I think I can hear Lindsey just a little bit in the background.
I think the second one is from the Mirage sessions. There is a drum beat, Stevie's voice is high pitched and Lindsey is singing harmony on certain parts. And, of course, there is the final album version.
So can anyone tell me if these are the only versions out there? I absolutely love this song! It's definitely in my top 3 favorite Stevie Fleetwood Mac songs. I could listen to it forever and never get tired of it. Does anyone love this song as much as I do?
I'm gonna throw in a poll as well: For those that have heard all versions, which one do you prefer? I prefer the Mirage sessions one. It's much more upbeat, Stevie's voice is much more twangy and powerful, and of course, I love the Lindsey harmony :)
So what does everyone else think?

One of my favorites. I wish they would do this in concert because I think it would be amazing
I absolutely love this song but my favorite version is the Buckingham Nicks demo. I really love how Stevie sings the melody and adds her own harmonies and Lindsey sings on backing vocals. However, it's just a really catchy and fun song so you can't go wrong with any version. The three versions you mentioned are the only versions i'm aware that were ever recorded unless there is one out there somewhere that no one has ever leaked?
Well, I guess nobody likes this song except GardenStateGirlie and I! :( Come on, there's got to be more enthusiasm for this song. I dare say it's one of her greatest EVER! :D (along with 'No Questions Asked'....just to stir up the pot a little) :)

I love That's Alright too. My favorite version is the BN version. I think they could do this song live during one of their acoustic sets and it would sound good.

Ali, you and I might be the only people along with Merf that have mad love for No Questions Asked. I can't help it...I love that song too. The demo? eh..not as much.

One of my all-time faves, too, AliP!!! Amazing vocals on any version, and though it's so nice to hear the BN version, I have to go with Mirage album. Her voice is SO powerful (the big "Whoaaaa you know it's been on my mind" in the middle :] ), LOVE the LB harmonies, LOVE the simple yet terribly effective intrumentation and lyrics. A true gem that I bet Stevie really gets a kick out of since it takes her back to her roots. A "must do" live song.

I love the song, in every version, Rolling Stone Photo Shoot demo included :p. I can't understand why she' s never performed it live.

Yeah, I don't like the demo as much either. It seems everyone loves the demo more  I just don't understand the reasoning behind that!
Everyhour - I'm glad you like the Mirage sessions version too. I was beginning to think I was the only one who preferred that version!
Ok - now a question for all you demo buffs: Is the version of That's Alright that appears on "Tusk Raw Mixes" the same as the one that is on the Mirage Sessions? Also, does anyone know why this is on a Tusk reel? Did they actually consider putting this on Tusk? Or was just someone fooling around with this particular master and put it on there when it shouldn't have been? So many questions...so few answers...

I love this song too!!!!!!!!! :D I love the BN-era version the best. OMG, the vocals are just beautiful! It just doesn't get better. The harmony on the different parts are perfect. I'm with you guys; they should do this live. Oh well, we can hope.

Indeed!
The fact that Stevie sings that frigging amazing...even when just for her own amusement...just makes one's heart beat a little faster, doesn't it?!

Absolutely! Hopefully we'll even have a real live performance sooner or later :D. By the way, it's always great to hear Stevie sing along her songs. Another of my favorites is Greta on 1994 Mark & Brian Show.

I just wanted to chime in and say that "That's Alright" is one of my favorites, too. It's at least in the top ten. I love the music, lyrics, vocals, everything!
Unfortunately, I haven't heard any of the demos everyone's talking about.
