View Full Version : Fleetwood Mac theme song

Are there any Fleetwood Mac songs that you think would make a good theme song for the opening credits of a tv show? The reason I ask is because I am in TV Productions at school and I have the responsibility of creating a new "open" for the next term. And of course I want to use a Fleetwood Mac song!
Right now I am leaning towards the SYW chorus but I really want a song that is going to appeal to people and I don't know if my high school would appreciate Stevie's whiskey, nasally voice on this song. I was also thinking the Chain might be a good one.
Does anyone have any ideas? I need to find a thirty second to one minute clip. I want it to get people's attention but not be too loud since they air early in the morning and most people wouldn't be in a "Come" mood!

What's the alleged show about? Wouldn't that be important in choosing an opening?

It is just a news show where we report what is going on around school, say the official pledge of allegience, announce who made the chearleading squad, etc. But no one ever picks a instrumental, news appropriate song. It always ends up being some obnoxious punk rock band. So I thought now that it is my turn to do it I should pick something classy but I don't want elevator music either! Any ideas? I thought Say You Will would be a good bet. And of course the "Chains keep us together" chorus make sense since we are a school and chains keep us together! lol

Well, if it's a news show, i would say "WTWCT" or "Peacekeeper" or "Murrow turning over..." but you're probably not supposed to have a big message, so...well, maybe Peacekeeper, the chorus? It's hard for me to get a sense of what you want to accomplish with your opening... :sorry:

How about going older...something like "hypnotized"? from Mystery to me - or the solo from "Oh well"?

How about "Don't Stop"? That's a great way to start off anything! :)

Thanks, both WTWCT and Peacekeeper crossed my mind. Second News Also sounded appropriate since it is a news show! But I think my teacher wouldn't find "lay me down in the tall grass and let me do my stuff" appropriate.
But really I am not trying to convey a message it is just a way to introduce the news.

That's a great idea! I love that song. I think the album version might sound a bit dated though- but the Dance version might be perfect!

I've never heard Oh Well but I love Hypnotised and if I did a black and white opening it might be really cool and mellow, you know?

Is it wrong that I like Stevie's more pessimistic lyric changes in the Live In Boston version as opposed to the Dance version? She puts a negeative spin on the song but I love her lyric changes.
On a completely different note I just heard Sara on the radio!!!! Sara!!!!
Sara!!!

No way, I like Stevie singing it waaaay better. It adds a little edge to an extremely...something poppy and annoying...song.
Yay, Sara! I know, i pause whenever i hear mac on the radio, even though it's always a song i own and have heard a million times. Although, the other night on my station they played "oh, well" the original, then "oh, well" Lindsey - that kicked ass, i wish they would do stuff like that all the time...

Oh I go crazy when I hear them on the readio too. I was at the drug store with my friend and when I heard the opening notes to Sara I grabbed her and said in an extremely serious and scary tone "It's a Stevie Nicks song" and of course she just rolled her eyes!

of course...why do we have no mac friends? It makes more sense for you, cause you're young...but i was born in '74...Even my mom is all "I only LOVE GDW, and The Chain is pretty good" (she really does love GDW, though) Yep, I love those singing in Walgreen's moments..
So did you decide on a song? Still, I vote for peacekeeper or SHN...

I always thought that the beginning of Skies the Limit sounds like a cheesy sitcom theme song. Something like "Growing Pains" or "Family Ties".

Niiiiiiice...I was thinking a CMcVie song would be just the thing, but i couldn't think of the one, cause i dont' "do" her much. My favorite is Heart of Stone, so that doesn't really work. Neither does "Isn't It Midnight" but somehow, i thought she should have the intro...

Never heard Oh Well? Oh my. Christopher, do you NOT have FM Live, 1980?
I'm trying to give you credit for your age, BUT, you've got some homework to catch up on, young man. Giddyup!

Oh yes, I do have Live 1980 so I have heard it a few times- but I do have a lot of catching up to do! The only pre-1975 album I have is Mystery to Me and I love it!

Eyes is a good idea but if it's a news show I think Second Hand News would be fitting.

Even though I've had several other older FM albums, Mystery To Me was the only one I really got into, for a long time. MTM is greatness! This past summer, I finally got obsessed with Future Games and Bare Trees. I suggest you try one of them next. :)
ARGH, I came back to edit just because I realized this is my 666 post!

As much as I love the song, the beginning has always reminded me of the 'Doogie Howser' theme. Since the very first time I ever heard it.

I think using The Chain would be perfect... Maybe it's because of listening to the way it's used over at fmlegacy.com (http://www.fmlegacy.com/) for the opening to the website... but if it were stretched a little longer, it could work.

The Chain has already been used as a theme song. It was used for the Formula 1 highlights programme, Grand Prix, on the BBC for many years until the F1 coverage switched to ITV. They started at 3:05 into the track (yes I remember it that well) and go right through Lindsey's solo until just before they start singing "Chain keep us together".
The use of The Chain as the theme music for this programme is the reason why I'm an FM fan. For years I always wanted to know who recorded that piece of music. I eventually found out that it was FM in 1987 when a school friend lent me a tape with Rumours and Tango on. That tape got me hooked on FM, which resulted in the purchase of every CD they've done, a lot of the solo CD's, seeing them 6 times live, buying a few t-shirts and even a cell from an animation on E-bay!
Take a look at this thread (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=149955) on the forum I run to see what The Chain means to motor racing fans.

Don't worry, chili. Count to ten and calm down. It'll be ok. ;)
He's in his teens... he hasn't really had a chance to "find" early Mac yet. It took me a while, too, when I was at that age, to have the financial resources to start investigating pre-Buckingham & Nicks FM.
I knew "Oh Well" from 'Fleetwood Mac Live' and from a radio show I taped, which featured British bands and their most famous songs, but that was about all I knew of the original Mac for a long time.
Hopefully the "youngins'" will realize that Fleetwood Mac's rich history is most definitely worth looking into, and that their best music doesn't necessarily begin and end with Lindsey & Stevie. :)

Depends on how sarcastic you want to be!
Monday Morning wouldn't be bad, and if you could edit it correctly to get the "love" theme out Little Lies could be quite amusing for a news thing...
TISL would be amusing to...But SHN is also good just edit the green grass line.
I remember we used to have this at my school until a kid slipped Happiness is a Warm Gun (Beatles) into the line up, well the teachers had a fit
Of course if it were me I probably would've slipped White Rabbit in for a laugh :D

Of course it is. That's the way it is with Fleetwood Mac... you have people who are predominantly fans because of one member or another, ones who are fans of Fleetwood Mac as a whole, and those who are fans of the whole band but still lean towards one or two particular members, or only certain eras/albums.
It's why we have such raging debates around here sometimes.
But with 37 years' worth of music to choose from, it usually pays off to delve a little deeper into the band's catalog than just five or six albums.
You might not like every track on every album, but it's a good bet that you'll find several "hidden gems" that you wouldn't have discovered otherwise. :)

In regards to the earliest incarnation of FM, I'm not crazy about a lot of the Jeremy Spencer stuff. There are a few songs of his that I like a lot, but a great deal of it just doesn't appeal to me.
But Peter Green's stuff is phenomenal... as is the larger part of Danny Kirwan's.
Give 'Then Play On' a try sometime... you just might find that you really enjoy it. Even if you have to start with "Oh Well" and "Rattlesnake Shake" and work your way from there, at least listen to it. :)

By the way, I just updated my website... Johnny Stew's Downloads (www.geocities.com/johnnystew)... to feature "Oh Well, Part 1."

Actually, i did like it a lot. But it was an instrumental thing, not a passion-vocalist thing, which is my usual love. But not my only love. I really think it's good, veeeery good! loved the first track, so far, especially.

:wavey: Well...At 16 I've had enough time to find the early Mac. Peter Green is fantastic. And...Danny Kirwan is my favorite because, somehow, his songs and the way he sings them are like the very essence of my mind put on record...And that ambrosal guitar. It's hard to explain...
Jeremy Spencer has some good songs, but I wish he could have found his own concrete identity. Bob Welch is a master craftsman of pop tunes. Christine, as always, had some sensational material before the Stevie/Lindsey era. Still...The early Fleetwood Mac were superb, and sometimes when listening I ask myself "How could they have not hit it big with these songs?" The work from the early Mac, no doubt, is among of their very best. "Bare Trees" is a masterpiece to my ears, as is "Then Play On." :D
Lastly...Amber, how much for your copy of "Then Play On?"
As free as you could ever want it to be...PM me your address, i'll send it over, tuit sweet! (sweehhhhhheet)
