Bush was very annoying! I think Kerry did a great job. Tonight made me like him even more.
I'm a Kerry supporter and will definitely be voting for Kerry, but I would not say that Kerry won the debate tonight. I think it was a draw. Just my opinion.
Both sides will spin it however they want, of course. I cannot WAIT for this election to be over.

CNN reports an instant polling of viewers has Kerry at 52 and W and 39 (I think those are accurate) - also these numbers were similar to the first debate, which all agree Kerry won!!!!!!!!

Well, the education stuff is a success when compared to EVERY other issue. I mean the health care is a travesty, the millions of jobs promised have never appeared, etc. So, . . . the education stuff, which is not really a sucess, is all he has to hang his hat on. AND - Kerry totally called him on it.

George Bush skirted around every issue presented at him. Instead of ADDRESSING Affirmative action and telling viewers his views, he like you said, went back to education and said "i think we need to educate people more."
And yes I TOO noticed the white in the corner of his mouth that NEVER went away...I think it was a good debate--I'm sure both candidates satisfied their bases, but I think the few undecided voters left saw or should have seen Kerry's stance on the issues affecting us all. He was straightforward in his answers about gay rights, and medical issues...It seems to me that Bush will contradict and say any number that is presented at him that disagrees with him is just FALSE

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this regard and can't be of much help. I did hear about some "you forgot Poland" remark however.

Anyway, could Bush have done more of an evil cackle?

I think this was Bush's best performance and Kerry's worst to be honest. Kerry's best was the first debate. I don't think it matters anyway, since most people had their minds made up a long time ago.
I can't wait until this is over. These campaigns have been quite dirty, on both sides.

Who cares if you are legally married or not? If you and your partner had a commitment ceremony (even if it wasn't recognized by the state) and considered yourself married that would be enough for me to consider you two a married couple. Sign a living will so you can visit each other in the hospital if anything happens and viola you are as good as wife and wife.
I don't think it truely matters if you have a marriage certificate or not. It is just a piece of paper. It is what matters on the inside that counts. If someone is the love of your life, your soul mate, if you will then that is all that counts.

The problem with "just" having an unofficial ceremony is the legal rights. My uncle died eight years ago from AIDS, and his partner had NO control over his estate. When a gay person is ill, their spouse has difficulty seeing them in the hospital when they are ill and helping to make medical decisions. Even though the spouse may have been the equivalent of a husband or wife. Gay couples deserve every bit as much respect as straight couples.

Yeah, but they can't get married stuff, like benefits and tax things and stuff. I mean, of course it wouldn't matter much without these factors, but hetero married people get benefits for being married, which she would not be able to get - therefore, that means that everything is not equal under the law right now...

I was very annoyed that neither one of them seemed to be too keen on actually answering questions, Bush in particular. (Or at least that was my interpretation). As y'all already said, he had this habit of answering every question about education, whether the question pertained to it or not, but I really noticed that neither one of them really said anything specific when asked about affirmative action. Is it just me or did they not even really address that issue? I guess Kerry was trying to say that affirmative action is still necessary, but I think he was a bit vague. Bush--I don't think he even breathed the words "affirmative action" in his answer.
I just happened to see some of the comments broadcasted on FOX news after the debate, and a couple of guys (sorry that I have no idea who they were) were saying that it was beyond low for both Kerry and Edwards to bring up Cheney's lesbian daughter in the debates. But they failed to explain why that was so low. Is it so awful that it should go unmentioned? God forbid they point out the extremely obvious contradiction there, that Cheney actually claims to fully support his daughter.

Yea - the R's are trying to spin in so that any mention of Cheney's lesbo daughter is some kind of violation. I think both did it respectfully AND Cheney opened the door with it when he brought it up a few weeks ago.
To me, it is like the Cheney's are so embarrassed by it socially and politically that Dick actually gets somber when talking about it - sort of like people whisper when they say "black people" or some other, in their heads, socially taboo topic.
As for Lynn Cheney - I think she is a rabid bitch and I cannot stand her. She attacked a Cokie Roberts in 2000 for asking about the gay daughter here
http://www.progressive.org/mpvdmk00.htm - here is an excerpt:
_______________________________________________
Dick Cheney's wife, Lynn, tried furiously to make the issue go away during a July 30 appearance on ABC's "This Week." When Cokie Roberts attempted to ask about the "daughter who has now declared she is openly gay," Cheney didn't even let her finish the question.
"Mary has never declared such a thing," Lynn Cheney snapped. "I have two wonderful daughters. I love them very much. They are bright. They are hard working. They are decent. And I simply am not going to talk about their personal lives. And I'm surprised, Cokie, that even you would want to bring it up."
_______________________________________________
Interestingly, Mary Cheney had a job working for the Coors Brewing Company's liaison to the gay community and in June 1999, Mary Cheney told the lesbian magazine Girlfriends, "The reason I came to work here is because I knew several other lesbians who were very happy here." She has regularly made similar public statements.
So much for Lynn Cheney's venomous lies
and, now that harpy said this about Kerry last night:
Lynne Cheney accused Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry of pulling a “cheap and tawdry political trick,” apparently for invoking her daughter’s sexuality in his debate with President Bush.

Those links simply spout more bull****. Where those studies go wrong is by saying "violent crimes." In reality, assault weapons are not used in "less than one percent of all violent crimes," they are used in less than one percent of gun crimes. That's an incredible difference.
There's an incredible chapter on it in Franken's last book and it details how the ban helped lower those types of crime by 50%.

There's alot more in this world that offends me than words from a presidential candidate.

Ah--the love that dare not speak its name. . . .
And the awful purple prose of a woman who things John Kerry is a bad man for calling her daughter a lesbian but seems to not have any problems with her husband sending young men and women off to die in another country for oil and to enrich her husband's former (?) company.
Deferred compensation.

Dude, what is up with Brad Carlson?
it isnt Brad Carson who is getting on my nerves (Btw he is still leading in the polls), But some of those non-Oklahoma hardcore Demos who are supporting his bid for US Senate...They should just shut up with their boringly lame-ass personal attack ads and just let Tom "Who else can I offend" Coburn burn his own bridge cause each time Coburn opens his yap he offends someone...Let's see, He has offended the Oklahoma City council by calling 'em "Crapheads", He offended the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and now he has offended the Farmers of South Western Oklahoma (Which is where I reside)
Hey, our Democratic Governor Brad Henry won by not saying anything bad about his opponent (He made a promise to run a clean campaign and kept that promise...His political ads were the best I have ever seen!!!!), Whereas his opponent in 2002 Republican Steve "Jim Zorn made me the great Hall-of-fame Wide Receiver " Largent blew himself up by, Yes you guessed it, Running his mouth...And ya gotta think our Moderate Democratic Gov.Henry wasnt even the Demos first pick to be the front runner for Governor (Their first pick was Vince "Let's see...I ran as an Independent & lost...I ran as a Republican and lost...Hey, I will try as a Democrat now" Orza and Henry absolutely smoked him!)
What may work in other states (those personal attack ads) NEVER work here, Each time a candidate has used these ads they have lost...So those hardcore Demos just need to take their ads off the air and let Tom Coburn do the J-O-B for 'em.
Too bad John Kerry cannot find Oklahoma on an atlas, He has YET to make any appearance in our state whereas his running mate has been here an estimated 30 times the past few years (Sen.Edwards & family have vacationed at Lake Tenkiller...Btw, I like Edwards!!)
Brian j.
ps-Btw, At least Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher stepped down recently, After being 'impeached' and losing support from his fellow Demos he saw it was a futile effort...Too bad he still faces criminal charges which led to his impeachment.

ok, seriously, can anyone tell me why, if Lynn Cheney is so uptight about Lesbian, that she wrote that book? Please?

10-14-2004, 10:25 PM
So if Lynne Cheney was so outraged by John Kerry's comments where the hell was she when the idiot (Alan Keyes) running against Barruck Obama made his infamous anti-gay remarks a few weeks ago (the kicker-he's got a lesbian daughter too)!
And then there's the South Carolina Senate Race. Jim DeMint, a rethug congressman is running against current SC Dept of Education Secretary inez Tennebaum. Well, in a debate last week DeMint announced that gay teachers shouldn't be allowed to teach in SC classrooms as gays did not reflect the "values" of the people of the State of South Carolina.
Hmmm--this is the same state that had Strom Thurmond as a Senator for about 100 years--you remember ole' Strom don't you--the one who had a half-black daughter he'd fathered with his family's maid? The rabid anti-segregationist who was sleeping with black women on the side? Was that a South Carolina value?
Oops-mini-rant inside of a rant there--but anyway, the upshot of all of this is that Lynne's hubby, Deadeye Dick Cheney has come to the state like twice to campaign for DeMint. Where the hell was the Cheney's outrage over anti-gay remarks when they were spoken by DeMint last week?

Yo, I agree with you there! But, he must have known she was writing it, and she must have known his politics...I mean, would someone write and publish a whole book like that? In that family? For no reason? And it's hard to write a book, even one like that. Either she is a super lesbian, and had to get it out, or she just found out her daughter was gay and wrote it for her, or...I can't think of anything else! I mean, if she HAD to write some kind of weird soft porn book, it could've been hetero. Maybe they're both one part of a "beard" couple, he's gay, she's gay.... :) Seriously, it's very mysterious to me, it just doesn't make sense....

much about NHC, But knowing how DIEHARD Democratic all the Indian Tribes of Oklahoma are, If Carson was to switch he would know his political career would end immediately...He would be scorned by the Native people of this state which is the 'be all end all' of politicians in this state (Remember Oklahoma has 3,000,000 in population...About 1,000,000 is Native American and "ya dont go pissing on their backs and tell 'em it's raining")

he is not switching...No telling where that rumor started at. He seems to be a no-nonsense kinda guy, So I am sure he will take that no-nonsense approach to Washington DC.
Btw, The Native people in this state were screwed over countless times...Think about it, the Union STOLE their original lands and forced then out to a useless tract of land called the "Indian territory" (Countless hundreds, if not thousands died during the "Trail Of Tears"). But once this useless tract of land was found to have oil "Well hell lets take it back from those savages and make it a part of the Union of states." Thus Oklahoma became a state on Nov.16,1907
Kinda funny but most of the 5 Civilized Tribes of Oklahoma (Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Seminole & Creek) sided with the Confederacy during the Civil War in hopes of winning back their RIGHTFUL lands back from the Northern THIEVES if the Confederacy won the war...But we know how that turned out.
End of yer "Oklahoma History" lesson...

the native's biggest mistake then was trusting that white people (you know what i mean. Indians betrayed themselves, too, but) would honor their contracts, and not be super resource grubbing, consuming, a-holes...now, since it is the American way, every ethnicity is like that! :) great.

Rep. Carson backtracks on expensive healthcare bill
By Patrick O'Connor
In an apparent move to the political center, Rep. Brad Carson (D-Okla.) is distancing himself from an expensive healthcare bill written by a California liberal.
Carson, who is running to take retiring Sen. Don Nickles’s (R-Okla.) seat this November, last week withdrew his support of a bill introduced by Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.) that would give comprehensive healthcare coverage to all children born after 2004.
-----------------------------------------
His latest campaign ad says the following:
Brad Carson will not support partial birth abortion.
Brad Carson believes marriage is between a man and a woman.
Brad Carson supports the NRA gun ownership policy.
Brad Carson feels there should be zero tolerance on illegal aliens.
According to the stats, he votes Republican 78% of the time. I guess he's a sight better than "Dr. Death" Coburn but this guy ain't no Democrat.

A Democrat like others Demos in different states throughout the US (Or even in your home state), But all the things you posted that he supports is what the typical Oklahoma Democrat supports.
Like I posted many a times before here on the Chit Chat posts on the Ledge (I remember Dissention laughing at what I called 'em one time), An Oklahoma Democrat is basically a Republican (Pro-life, Pro-religion, Anti-Gay Marriage, Pro-military, Pro-gun & Anti-Illegal Immigrant) who is scared about losing their Social Security and thus align themselves with the Democratic party, who are typically trying to save Social Security for all Americans...Otherwise they are Conservatives who happen to be registered Democrats (This state is not a liberal state...Never have or will be.)
