So sad. Even though he suffered a terrible accident and was paralyzed, he still seemed to have a certain zest for life and had hopes for new discoveries in medical research. He will be missed. :distress:

I was just about to post before going to bed. That's three...Janet, Rodney and now Christopher. :(
RIP to you all.

It is SO weird how it always happens in threes:
RIP Richard - his acting was great, but his tireless and selfless efforts to travel throughout the world to promote understanding of spinal injuries, raise private and public financial support for the victims of it, and press forward for new and innovative therapies and cures made him a true Superman to countless, including me.

I was shocked when I heard this.
I remember he came to my college to do some filming in front of some of the historic buildings there. I stood outside and watched (theatre major that I was) and took some pictures. After a while he went inside and a small group of us gathered around him, and he was just chatting to us about school and a little about the project he was working on (this is pre-paralysis). He was very kind and approachable, not Hollywood at all. I remember being amazed that I was actually only sitting about two feet from his elbow.
RIP Chris. The world is a dimmer place without you.

Oh my gosh! I can't believe this.....I just read an article about him in Readers Digest...What was the cause of death?
RIP Christopher -- you were an inspiration.

Carol, on the Today show this morning they said his actual cause of death was a heart attack. Evidently people that are on a respirator as much as Chris was, only have about a seven year life expectancy .....post accident. Chris lived for nine years after his accident. His tireless quest for improvements in health care, increased funding and the use of stem cells for research will be greatly missed. Let his legacy live on and my prayers go out to Dana and Chris's ten year old son, Will. He really was a remarkable inspiration.

I just heard it this morning. So sad. I was hoping he would walk again some day.
And yes, 3 people again. It's like airplane accidents. Usually it happens 3 times in short time

This is so sad. Christopher Reeve was such an inspiration after his accident, being determined not to let such a tragedy slow him down. RIP Chris, you will be missed greatly.

Caminiti was a mind blower. He's only 41 years old! Apparently he used steroids though.
I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Chris. He was such a fighter and inspiration to so many people.

What I read in the New York Times was that Reeve was admitted to the hospital for a pressure sore--something that is totally normal for those who are immobile--but it became infected and then turned septic. The infection in his body was what caused the heart attack. He was in a coma when it happened, so hopefully he was not aware of what was going on. So sad.

no apparent to it...He flat out admitted his usage and even named a few ex-teammates as also being 'roid users (Which alienated/and or backlisted him from the "MLB Players Union"). I think his heart attack will end up being yet another drug related death (He has had alot of demons to battle after his on field playing career ended.)
RIP Ken Caminiti & Christopher Reeve

Well, no, not normal, but not unexpected either.
Considering that I'm sure he had several employees & family members to care for him (ie. bathe, massage, therapy, turning & positioning, etc.) I think it's incredibly sad that an infected bedsore ultimately led to his death. So unnecessary. :distress:

I love this guy. I have a HUGE poster of him as Superman that covers about half of one of my bedroom walls. He was a hero to me when I was a kid, and he remains to be. Rest in peace and God bless you Christopher.
