The Fog

I saw that when I was little and forgot about it for years until I came across it on DVD a few months ago and bought it. I was kind of disappointed with it, it wasn't as good as I remembered and I found it to be very boring. LOL Good documentary on the DVD, though. I have so many movies it's absurd.

My favorites (and there are MANY  ):

The Changeling- Scares the **** out of me every time. The best ghost story ever made.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (old and new)- The old one is one of the scariest flicks ever, but I dig the remake, too, even though it's far from scary.
Burnt Offerings- The ending is horrifying!!
It's Alive- That baby freaks the hell out of me.
The Shining- The last hour is unbelievable. And that scene with the man in the dog suit, my word.
Session 9- Probably the scariest movie made in the past decade, don't watch it alone! It was shot in a mental hospital miles away from me and that makes it even freakier.
The Hills Have Eyes- Wes Craven used to make good movies and this is his best. Very unsettling and creepy.
It- I know it's only Tim Curry, but it still makes me pee myself.
Society- Must be seen to be believed. A strong stomach is required for the last fifteen minutes, though, because I almost lost my dinner. Make sure you see the unrated version because the R rated one is horrid and makes no sense.
Poltergeist- One of my all-time favorites. I just love everything about it.
Hellraiser- Forget the sequels, this one is scary.
Dawn of the Dead- One of the best horror flicks ever made.

I'm sure I'll think of more! :woohoo:

That's weird, I don't really like horror movies (gore without suspense and plot) but I do kinda like the nightmare on elm street ones...
Let's see, i don't often see horror movies, but the ones i remember liking ok are Candyman, and ....The Prophesy...Evil Dead (?) was funny...oh, Burnt offerings, Bette Davis was in it, so i haveta like it :) My favorite creepy weird movie is The Little Girl Who Lived Down the Lane, though of course it's not really a horror movie, is it? Damn!

omigod, you just quoted Bette Davis about Joan Crawford in "Bette and Joan" "she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag!" But anyway, i don't think JLo is such a bad actress, however, I do think she is bad at picking scripts, and that is a tragedy. But, I think The Hunter (?) with Bowie, Deneuve, and Sarandon is the best vampire flick ever...Never seen Punkinhead, I actually don't really care for horror movies, but, i do like movies...

the exorcist
Am I the only one who just did NOT find The Exorcist scary at all? I guess if I saw it when it was first released (which I couldn't have, being 16 and all), it would have scared the hell out of me. But 3 in the morning? Not scary.

Requiem For A Dream's scary (and depressing!) as hell, but it's not really a horror film. And for a double whammy, you can read the book! Yay!
The Ring was more creepy than scary (there's a difference).
Signs scared the hell out of me, but once again - more creepy than scary. I was all afraid to look at TVs that were turned off & under doors  But then again, anything involving aliens tends to do so. I still can't watch ET to this day. Friggin bathroom scene -_-.

Um. I think that's it. I'm pretty much a wuss when it comes to horror movies. I try to avoid them at all costs. I'm able to watch Jason, Freddy, etc, movies now, though. +10 for me, even if they're hella lame. They just don't scare me anymore. But I'm still afraid of ET.

I didnt think id get this kind of a response!

Watcher in the Woods sounds awesome. Sounds like a movie I would rent or buy. I buy a lot of Independent Horror Movies that for the most part turn out great. Ive always seen Pumpkinhead and Evil Dead in the stores and they look bad, but hey ill rent them sometime.

Others I remembered:

The Pool
Jack Frost: Killer Snowman(hilarious)
Bloody Murder 2
HALLOWEEN 1-8 (including 3)

NEW HORRORS COMING OUT SOON:

LEPRECHAUN 7
CHILDS PLAY: THE SEED OF CHUCKY
HALLOWEEN 9
NEW FREDDY VS JASON TYPE OF MOVIE(YAY!)

Hey Amber,

yes I have seen the first Dentist. I didn't really like it because that kind of stuff makes me cringe (ie Teeth cracking, and bones breaking).

funny it doesnt bother me when Jason chops someones head off but when someone breaks a bone in a movie and you hear the snap i cringe!

ooh, I forgot about that...I watched it fairly vaguely, I don't have much patience for cheesy horror shlock..but...people always tell me there are "great" movies I gotta see, so i watch some of them...Most notable things (apparently) that i have never seen are: Caddy Shack and Spinal Tap. THE SHINING
THE SIXTH SENSE

I saw Exorcist and Carrie on TV so it wasn't the same effect. good movies but I wasn't scared at all. Besides I saw far after their time. But good movies anyway. So my faves are the other two I mentioned: REDRUM! REDRUM! (I'll never forget the Shining)

I'm not much into horror movies, but I did like
The Amityville Horror
I've seen Carrie and one or two of the others mentioned (does It count as a horror movie), but that's it. Oh, I do think I saw a lot of the Nightmare on Elm St. movies in high school. They don't really scare me; just entertain, you know? But Amityville Horror? That got me!

Burnt Offerings- The ending is horrifying!!

yay....i don't know too many people that like or even know this movie exists.
i saw it way back in the late 70's when i was like 7 or 8. it must have been on network tv. it came out in '76 and i'm pretty sure it was in the theaters. anyway, the part i remember from back then was the part when the chauffeur
smashes down the door to Aunt Elizabeth's room (Bette Davis).

I still think it's such a creepy movie. That chauffeur was perfect for that part.

Well, Halloween's my fave but others I like include:

The Wicker Man

Night Of The Living Dead/Dawn Of The Dead/Day Of The Dead

The Evil Dead trilogy

American Werewolf In London

The Bodysnatchers

The Haunting (the original 1963 version I stress)

Replusion

Tesis

Dario Argento's Suspiria

Ringu, Ringu 2 and Ringu 0

Audition

Ju-on (The Grudge)

And of course Session 9... to name but a few
I haven't heard of tons of these...WTF? Are they british or something?

Halloween is my absolute favorite. I never get tired of watching it. Other favorites:

Pumpkinhead
Evil Dead series (very entertaining)
Nightmare on Elm Street
Terror Train (good movie with Jamie Lee Curtis that I saw on tv once and have never seen it anywhere again)
The Omen
Scream series

I'm sure there's more I just can't think of.

Tesis
Spanish movie about a woman investigating snuff films. It's pretty nasty stuff. Directed by Alejandro Amenabar, who went on to made The Others.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117883/

Dario Argento's Suspiria
Classic slice of Italian horror. I hear they're remaking this one.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076786/

Session 9
I've been plugging this one on the boards for ages! Go rent!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0261983/

Tesis is quite disturbing. That's one that will be forever burned into my brain.

Suspiria is one of the best, very intense. The limited edition DVD set rocks.

Session 9 is terrifying. Scary as hell. And did I say that I live miles from that hospital?

The Haunting (the original 1963 version I stress)
Spooky b&w British horror starring Claire Bloom and remade in 1999 with Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta Jones. The remake is terrible even though it has Owen Wilson in it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057129/

Replusion
This one is a Roman Polanski classic from 1965, where Catherine Deneuve is driven mad and starts murdering people.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059646/

Tesis

Ringu, Ringu 2 and Ringu 0
This is the original Japanese version of The Ring, possibly the scariest movie ever made. The remake (with Naomi Watts) doesn't even compare. The sequel and prequel are also good but not quite as terrifying.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0178868/

Audition
Another scary Japanese film with possibly one of the worst torture scenes I've ever seen in a movie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235198/

Ju-on (The Grudge)
I like Japanese horror films and I'm not ashamed.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364385/

Session 9
I've been plugging this one on the boards for ages! Go rent!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0261983/
You are so sweet. These sound great, though i don't like horror films. Honestly, judging from the anime I watch, I think maybe the japanese ones might be too much for me. Except Ringu...that sounds awesome! About Repulsion, that's weird, cause this morning i was just trying to remember the name of another Roman Polanski horror (well...maybe strange suspense) film he made with Isabelle Adjani (made in the 70's though, i believe) but, I don't think I can watch him in any more films, unless he's waaaay better than he was in that one :p
I hope that version of the Haunting is good, but I wouldn't see the other one especially because I love the story by Shirley Jackson so much (Haunting of Hill House). You know, book to movie disappointment? but maybe i'll look into it....
Don't know if I can watch the one about lady investigating snuff (can you tell i'm a big baby?) but Suspiria is probably great! I'll look for that one...
and since you've been advertising Session 9, and i've never heard of it, i'll have to look into it :p I imagine that non American made horror probably has, for me, a leg up...
ooooo, i'd forgotten one that I like!
Possession, with Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neil was freaky!
Anyway, thanks, you are lovely...

I used to be a huge horror movie freak, but lately they just plain scare me too much. Guess I've gotten to be a wuss in my old age. :( Here are a few of my favorites:

Psycho
The Birds
The Exorcist
The Shining
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?
Carrie

I know there are many others, but those are my top ones anyway. And The Ring is what stopped me from watching horror movies anymore. I don't know why, but that movie scared the holy crap outta me!

I'm so bored at work so.....

My favorites:

Night of the Living Dead - my absolute favorite. i WILL make it to Evans City, PA cemetery one of these days. when i'm alive, that is.......or when i'm undead. haha...no, it's not great for its dialogue but Romero's documentary style is classic. And that Mrs. Cooper's screaming when she gets it with the trowel is unforgetable.

Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things - a sort of cheesy, early '70s hippie ripoff of the above with an annoying lead character that makes you appreciate the living dead's revenge at the end. if anyone has seen it here, that gypsy lady kills me.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre - the original. i'm sorry, but would you have picked up that nasty hitchhiker?

Evil Dead - the first one. but what stupid girl, who hears "join us" voices from the woods, goes outside in her underwear in the woods to find out who it is????

When a Stranger Calls - The really best part is the beginning with the babysitter....however, i get chills when Jill and her husband are at the restaurant and she gets the call again.

that's it for now..... have a quick meeting. will post more later.....

Halloween 4 was okay, but 5 was pure ****. It made absolutely no sense, especially the ending. Halloween 6 is good, but only if you get the Producer's Cut bootleg. The version that they released to theaters was edited so much that it was unwatchable; the bootleg explains a lot of things.

I' m a coward with horror movies, when I try to watch them at home usually I finish keeping a pillow on my face and repeating no...no...no.. (fascinating, I know :D ).

So based on my very scarce experience:

Tesis- great movie, but it scared me only in the first part, then I was hooked by the plot

Society - (only 5 minutes... the wrong ones) Totally disgusting... and some people even paid to see it...

Ringu - Beautiful, the scariest film I've ever seen. My favorite in the genre

Profondo Rosso- Dario Argento's masterpiece.

The Call - full of clichés but with some good ghost scenes.

Les Rivières pourpres - Small French colleges can be terrifying places as well

The Fury - Poor Kirk Douglas...

The Hitcher - The scene where the girl dies every now and then returns in my nightmares...

Im with you TRACKAGHOST- Halloweens kick ass. Even though the original is good, i suggest Halloweens 4 and 5. I find them to be the best of the series.

I wanna see when a stranger calls. Ive seen it around but never took interest. I must look into that one!

Wait, i'm confused, which part in that post is you getting your head bitten off? Is it when he says Exorcist sucks? Cause he/she wasn't really talking directly to you, and I didn't see he/she blame YOU for the actual quality of the exorcist unless, you are in fact secretely the director or the scriptwriter, which i sort of doubt...
