Will Pigs Fly?

British music magazine Q said in its October issue that there's another band that's ready to follow The Pixies' return to the stage: the classic lineup of Pink Floyd. So far though, a rumor is all there is to the story.

Q is the only print source that's even hinting at something in the air. According to the magazine, Floyd, with bassist/lyricist Roger Waters, will play a "series of lucrative shows next year."

To do so, the members would have to set aside 20 years of differences. That includes acrimony left over following Waters' 1986 legal action against his former bandmates. He sued guitarist David Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason to keep them from using the band's name without him. Waters lost.

A reunion tour of any significance could generate more than $100 million in gross revenues.

This isn't the first time Pollstar has heard rumblings of Floyd's return but in the past, the rumors all went south. During the last go-around, one reliable source told Pollstar it was false, adding one that Gilmour "didn't need any more houses." This time, the same source laughed out loud before putting the kibosh on the report.

One major promoter who would likely have involvement with a potential tour told Pollstar there was no information. Barbara Skydel of William Morris Agency, who has had longtime ties to Waters, responded to our inquiry by saying it was the first she had heard of the rumor.

Still, she contacted Waters' manager for verification, then passed along to Pollstar that there was no truth to the rumor "at this time."

According to fan Web site www.rogerwatersonline.com Q recently published a special edition magazine devoted to Pink Floyd that included interviews with Waters and Mason. The Web site speculated the magazine may have used at least one of the two musicians as a source.

There is no way this is true, and Pink Floyd's management today explicitly stated that there was absolutely no way there would be a reunion of any kind next year.

It makes no sense anyway, as next year Roger Waters will be heavily involved in promotion for both his opera project "Ca Ira" and also his "forthcoming rock album". David Gilmour is working on a solo project (and tour) which he says may be ready by next year.

Aside from that, I saw David Gilmour live 2 weeks ago at the Fender Strat 50th Anniversary concert. He played Marooned, Coming Back To Life, and Sorrow. An incredible and unforgettable performance, but one which very obviously included absolutely nothing to do with Waters - i.e. no Shine On, Comfortably Numb etc (both MAJOR "strat" songs). So if anything, their relationship seems to have got even worse.

By the way...I'm meeting Nick Mason tomorrow.:D

will happen first, Pink Floyd reunion or a new Guns N Roses studio release

I do know from another website I frequent the rumors about a Led Zeppelin reunion tour are false, Matter-of-fact a person who is very close to all the members (Including his father who was a LZ member...Kinda of an easy hint isnt it?) stated it will never happen now (Though it almost did a year ago).

I just bought a ticket yesterday for the Austin VR show! I think it's meant to be - the first show was scheduled for the same night FM was in Houston - then it got postponed to Oct. 29th 'cause Weiland got arrested or went back to rehab or something. It sold out before I got around to buying a ticket. Yesterday, they announced another postponement to Nov. 1st, to a larger venue, and they released 600 more tickets. The show here is surrounded by drama - Weiland had a feud with a local music critic.

Ah yes. Just what the concert industry needs to bring it out of the doldrums. The tickets will probably be like $350.

You're what? I want to come. So..........

He was doing a signing for his new book "Inside Out - A Personal History Of Pink Floyd". He signed my copy (and personalised it which was awesome!), and I got my photo taken with him. He's such a cool guy.

Seeing Dave Gilmour last week and then meeting Nick Mason this week.... :D :blob2:

I asked him about the rumours of the tour and he said there is "absolutely no chance...". :(
