2::Why on earth were Blue Lamp and Sleeping Angel not released as singles?! Much less put on an album?
I've been wondering this for years. Both songs were done, and released for movies so I guess that's why they were never put on albums and released as singles, but they are two fabulous songs that should have gotten more attention than being hidden on soundtracks.

...of Stevie's career.
The other day I was just musing about things I would have advised Stevie to do differently...kind of a big list.
2::Why on earth were Blue Lamp and Sleeping Angel not released as singles?! Much less put on an album? SA should have replaced B&TB.
HAWAFY as a single? How about Imperial Hotel! Battle of the Dragon & RTTG - should've been on Rock A Little.
7::Nightbird is a good song, but not single material. Should've went for Nothing Ever Changes or Enchanted.I've heard that, often, the record company execs are the ones who pick the singles. The artist can just stand by helplessly (or complain) & watch an inappropriate single be released.
In the case of "Nightbird," there had been a couple of reviews of the "Wild Heart" album that referred to the Fleetwood Mac-like sound of "Nightbird," & that was probably all it took for Modern execs to rush to release it (obviously in the hopes that a Fleetwood Mac-like sound would prove successful). I myself don't hear much Fleetwood Mac in "Nightbird" (a very mechanized drum beat & Waddy Wachtel's countryish guitar), but I think "Sable on Blonde" is very FM'ish.

I always thought "Listen to the Rain" would have made a great single, much better than "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind."

4::Alice, and also: Two Kinds of Love.

I love these the way they are. I am so happy she did them live and they are great songs. I would take these two over a lot of popular songs. Doing these 2 live for the OSOTM tour made me very happy.
I also enjoy these on the album. Lets pray she does one for her new tour!

Things I Would Have Advised Her To Do
1. Burn the Street Angel masters and release the ashes into the Santa Ana winds.
2. Put "Blue Lamp" on Bella Donna instead of "After the Glitter Fades," release that as a single in lieu of "Leather and Lace."
3. Trash "Too Far From Texas" and "That Made Me Sicker" for "Space Needle" and a funky Dallas Austin track. Also, let Lindsey play guitar on Planets.
4. Fire Margi from '89-'94. Hire Steven Sprouse.
5. Burn the Street Angel masters and release the ashes into the Santa Ana winds.
6. Retire Rhiannon, GDW, Dreams, and Landslid after the reunion.
7. Wear leather pants and the pink boa more often.
8. Shorten the album version of "Alice" and recruit Christine to sing it with you in the studio.
9. Not to comment on Jackson Browne.
10. Burn the Street Angel masters and release the ashes into the Santa Ana winds.

1. I like Street Angel. Sure, it wasn't a great album in comparison to her others, but it was heartfelt, and that's why I listen to her music anyway. I would have stuck with the demo version of "Listen to the Rain" though and released it as a single. And I would have raised hell until they released "Rose Garden" to the country stations.
2. I wish "If I Were You" had been released, with HAEWAFY as the b-side. Not that it's the greatest song on Rock A Little, but it would have sounded great on the radio, and imagine the cute video she could have made. True blockbuster albums are usually determined by how well the THIRD single does, not the first two, which is why Bella Donna sold more than The Wild Heart and Rock a Little combined (despite what the "quality" may be). The customers were there, believe me, they were just improperly marketed to. And hello, Christopher -- I know you're reading this -- you f*cked up big-time with the fan club and tour marketing and cost your sister (and you, by proxy) millions upon millions of dollars!!!
3. I was friends with a local DJ (from the now defunct 97 Rock in Houston), and she got "Nothing Ever Changes" and "Enchanted" on the local playlist for me, and then "Violet and Blue" when Against All Odds came out. Rock stations were desperate for some rockin' Stevie tunes after wearing out "Edge of Seventeen" for 2 years. I don't know what the record company was thinking with "Nightbird" after "If Anyone Falls" kinda petered out in comparison to "Stand Back" -- again, THIRD single, people.
4. I still can't believe we don't have a Live album, even if it's one or two best performances from each tour as a retrospective.
5. I want a complete video collection, the HBO concert on DVD, and a 4 or 5 or 6-disc demo boxed set. I don't need packaging or anything fancy, just liner and production notes and maybe stories about the songs and why they weren't finished or included -- these can even be posted on an accompanying website if it costs too much to print. It can be white-label with no pictures and sold directly to the fans through The Nicks Fix to get around the record label. She has enough unfinished songs for 20 more albums, and we all know she'll never release that many, not to mention that she writes new stuff every day!

I know, I can't believe it either. The Jones Beach and Boston Street Angel shows are worthy of an official release.

1) don't listen to the well meaning, but mis-guided psychiatrists....don't fill that script for klonapin!!!!!!!!
2)fire your brother from handling merch/art decisions. this has been an unholy mess since 1983. release more merch!
3)CATER TO THE DIAMOND_HARD_CORE FANS!!!!! this is a strategy employed by the Grateful Dead, they are releasing music long after they have ceased to exist because they market to the most loyal....never mind catering to fringe fans with best of's like timespace and two discs from enchanted...release the gems that we already have listed, ex. Space Needle and such.
4) whatever the magic potion was for TISL, whatever decisions, stay on that track.
5) A box , say 1000 discs set (ok, mabye i went a bit far, but I would buy it) of early recordings, demos, conversations, etc with accompanying book explaining it all....reach out and touch us....see item number 3 again. We want it ALL.
6) live albums----even make it so we can download any show from a tour........ again, see item 3
7) Extended releases ala the FM albums (item 3 once more).
8) dreamy, surrealistic, dark videos....and for heaven sakes...release them on DVD....I can understand her fear of looking like she is exploiting her fans and being slow to release things, but sheesh, it gets so tight it almost feels as if we are being ignored.....also see item number 2....exploit us....we don't mind....just make sure its Stevie decisions, not record suit-men decisions
9) i am sure there is more, that's all i have now, i may edit this later

So true! If I Were You would have made a great single...I've become very attached to that song lately. Hopefully, the video would have turned out better than Talk to Me and I Can't Wait :)

Stevie shoulda......
1) Sang lead on the white album version of "Crystal"
2) Insisted on one or two more songs on Tusk.
3) Performed "Storms" on the Tusk tour instead of "Landslide"
4) Ditched "After the Glitter Fades" and "How Still My Love" for "The Dealer", "Julia" and "Blue Lamp" on Bella Donna. (Eleven songs would have been better than ten)
5) Performed "That's Alright" on the Mirage tour in favor of "Dreams".
6) Made the smart decision to not pick up smoking three packs of Kools a day. Just think how great her voice would have stayed to this day.
6) "Sleeping Angel", "Violet and Blue" and a forced-to-rework "Sanctuary" should have been on The Wild Heart instead of "If Anything Falls" and "Beauty and the Beast".
7) Kept Jimmy Iovine on as producer for Rock A Little and made an album that wasn't a synth-based piece of crap. Hello!!! "Reconsider Me" should have been there! Ditch the synthesizers and bring back the guitars.
8) Told Fleetwood Mac to go their own way for Tango in the Night.
9) Performed "Ooh My Love" on the OSOTM tour rather than "Alice".
10) Told that Klonopin doctor to f*ck off.
11) '90 through '96 would have had two or three GREAT Stevie solo albums without the tranquilizers.
12) The Dance would have been more about Stevie coming back than Lindsey coming back.
13) Performed "Sara" and "Sisters of the Moon" on The Dance tour in favor of "Dreams" and "Rhiannon"
13) Eliminated David Kahne, "It's Only Love", "That Made Me Stronger" and "Too Far From Texas" from TISL in favor of "Space Needle" and other, better material.
14) Opened the TISL with "Bella Donna" !!!!!!!!!
14) Performed "Everybody Finds Out" and "Smile at You" (with a rock-out arrangement on the half-end) on the ENTIRE Say You Will tour.
15) "Landslide" would have been retired from live performances after 1980, only to come back with much poignancy for The Dance tour..
I could go on for hours........

I agree with some of your listing- although you know what they say about Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda....
Doesn't really matter cuz you have landed where you are; by taking and chosing whichever path you needed to take, at the time...isn't that poignent?
Anyway,some of my Stevies' Shoulda's...
-kept up with the glamor photo shoots, HH Worthington? something like that-captured the essense of Stevie in photo's
-Re-thought the rebok's, and the less than genuine bow to Lindsey on the Live in Boston DVD
-written more of her own newer material for TISL, and lost a lot of the guests she didn't need to back her up-Too far from Texas- who cares? and Bombay Saphires, it's a drink not a duet with Macy Grey (and personnaly I don't even think she liked her), I mean Sheryl Crowe is cool and adds something...the rest-No need
-Newer songs too for SYW- the Tower and Smile at You....already done
-re-though the whole "I want to be a star-I don't want to be a cleaning lady" intro to Sara...taints the whole song for me
-finally, and I am sure I can think of more...
not gone out with Mick!
Just not the fair thing to do to Lindsey-He may have been crazy but he did really love her and that was SUCH a slap in the face to him...worse than Don Henly or any other guy she hooked up with... and never never ever tell a heatbroken man that you have been sleeping with a man he respects-It's worse than the break-up!!
Hey just my opinion
1 more....Stevie shoulda sang more vocals with Christine when the band was still together (just the two of them). Any one heard "You make Lovin fun"? on the re-release with Christine singing lead and Stevie backing her up? Excellent!! Better than Lindsey/Christine version-
Again ....just my humble opinions :]
Let me know what you think

Here's what I think - I'm glad she went out with Mick, and from what I can tell, Lindsey was being a major A** to her, and she usually did try to spare his feelings, while he didn't put to much effort in sparing his...he's the one who brought around girlfriends and stuff, which she said she never did to him.
TFFT? Who cares? Me, I love that song.
agree about Macy Gray, but don't like Bombay Saphire too much anywhoo
Agree on singing more with Christine
Could care less if Stevie weares 'boks' although what i want for her is to be more mobile on stage, instead of just shaking her arms really fast, and the 'boks didn't make her too much more mobile, as far as I can tell.
What I want for her is to wear a nice, slimming pantsuit thingy, like she was wearing in Destiny Rules...looks soooooo much better, and the boks go better with it...

Stevie should never EVER wear those Frankenbocks on stage again. Period. Find something more stylish to wear with dresses if your feet hurt. The only time athletic shoes should be worn with a skirt is on a tennis court or if you're a cheerleader.
6) Made the smart decision to not pick up smoking three packs of Kools a day. Just think how great her voice would have stayed to this day.
You can tell Ann Wilson (Heart) has either never smoked, or gave it up as a teenager. Her voice hasn't changed one bit since the 70's!

2) Insisted on one or two more songs on Tusk.I don't think the band gave in much to her demands in those days. I can visualize all of them lounging around Studio D, Village Recorder, & Stevie "insisting" she wants to add a song. The rest of them just chuckle, & go back to what they were doing.
5) Performed "That's Alright" on the Mirage tour in favor of "Dreams".Oooh, now THAT would have been fantastic.
6) "Sleeping Angel", "Violet and Blue" and a forced-to-rework "Sanctuary" should have been on The Wild Heart instead of "If Anything Falls" and "Beauty and the Beast".Bite your tongue -- "If Anyone Falls" was one of the highlights of the tour.
8) Told Fleetwood Mac to go their own way for Tango in the Night. The album? The tour? Both?
10) Told that Klonopin doctor to f*ck off.Likewise to the doc who's currently giving her pain pills.
12) The Dance would have been more about Stevie coming back than Lindsey coming back. She was "back" already. Rolling Stone was running Q&As with Stevie, fashion magazines were profiling Stevie's older clothes, rock stars were coming out of the woodwork saying how much they liked Stevie, & Stevie herself was already back from her despondency after the '94 tour & doing charity shows on her own.
15) "Landslide" would have been retired from live performances after 1980, only to come back with much poignancy for The Dance tour..You don't like "Landslide" much, do you? You already said you wanted it dropped from the '80 tour in favor of "Storms" (an unusual notion to begin with). I couldn't drop "Landslide" at that point because my favorite "Landslide" performances were on the '82 tour.

-re-though the whole "I want to be a star-I don't want to be a cleaning lady" intro to Sara...taints the whole song for meI'm not sure there was much there to rethink. It was probably nothing more than jabbering a little before the vocal began -- akin to clearing your throat at the mic.
Maybe she was having a conversation with her friends or the engineers about her days cleaning Keith Olsen's house.
