View Full Version : "Beauty and the Beast"...put it in the next setlist
Since Stevie has warmed up to bringing older less-frequently performed songs
back in the setlist, i think it's time to bring this one out of retirement.

I could care less if they sucked teabags, they'd still be better than tired and stale stuff like Dreams, Landslide, Rhiannon, Gypsy, Gold Dust Woman, etc. I love her, but if she ever goes back out on the road and the setlist isn't any different, I will not pay a dime to see her. We need to hear new things!! She had the right idea with the TISL tour, but she dropped almost all of them, eventually.

I'm with the Sisters crowd, and Bella Donna, Battle of the Dragon, yes! Beauty and the Beast would be okay since I've never seen it live, I don't think. I also love her demo where she tells the story of the John Cocteau film and how it affected her so much she had to write the song. Knowing what moved her brought more meaning to the song to me.

Sisters of the Moon HAS to be played, but in the next Fleetwood Mac tour. I don't want SOTM on a solo tour. I'd prefer she do solo songs on her solo tour, and Fleetwood Mac songs on a FM tour. And I'm counting Stand Back as an honorary Fleetwood Mac song, so I'd prefer she did SB with Fleetwood MAc and not on her solo tours, although that'll never happen.
The 3 songs I want to see in a Stevie set list are 1st and foremost HOW STILL MY LOVE. And then I really want Gold and Braid, Voilet and Blue, Kind Of Woman, and I'll go with you guys on Beauty and the Beast, that's be a great almost BC like song for her next solo tour.

that's probably what made me think it in the first place. i think she tends to do a better job nowadays with the slower acoustic songs. plus, i think she could do a better job than the RAL and OSOTM versions. although i do like some of the RAL versions, i don't think it was the right tour for that song. too whiskey voiced for it. Plus, she always seemed to crack up during the first two lines. OSOTOM was too sedated.
i'm really surprised at everyone's negative reaction...
oh well.

I agree that I'd like to see Stevie only do solo songs on her next tour. That would give her so much more time to devote to songs we'd otherwise never be able to see her do (Long Way to Run or Bella Donna  ).
Also, I was disappointed with Landslide during the Enchanted tour. It's not the same IMO without Lindsey. But....I'm ready for FM to retire that song from the next setlist anyway. Why not do Crystal instead, with a big smooch at the end?

I'd love to hear Long Way to Go, though. I was on the Nicks Fix looking at her solo tour set lists and realized that she only did 3 songs from TOSOTM on that tour. It's a shame she didn't do more, because some of them would've kicked ass, I think.

Beauty and the Beast pales in comparison to Sable On Blonde, it's incredibly melodramatic and schtick-heavy; plus, the "le Bette" at the end is incredibly cloying. Sable On Blonde is like a painting, you can just see the song; one of my all-time favorites.

Number one, your autobiography is sounding racier by the minute.
Number two, count me in as a BATB fan. Sure it is melodramatic. Anyone ever seen the friggin movie that inspired it ? Talk about over the top !
I think the strings are exquisite and her vocal is heartbreaking. It requires a certain taste, and I have to be in the right mood for it. But, it is among her finest performances and I consider it one of the best executed final products of her career.

how can you even compare sable on blond to beauty and the beast? how did that song even get into this thread? they're two completely different songs. she's never even done sable on blond live. and it's never going to happen either. i'm not saying she shouldn't....it's a good song but its significance, composition, arrangement, and meaning pales in comparison to beauty and the beast.
forget about the rock and roll for a minute and focus on the classical arrangment...maybe it's sappy to some of you but i think it's completely serious and beautiful - i don't recall the arranger off hand but he's the same guy that did many of elton john's earlier stuff.
i guess i'm a sucker for some of this "sappy" stuff. i just picture stevie doing this song with a big orchestra behind her.
maybe it's my age and a combination of many years of fm/sn concerts with the same performances over and over again but i'm craving stevie to do an intimate concert that is more acoustic and orchestra based. i think she could really pull it off. she's got the material for it. it doesn't have to be cheesy or anything. it could be really cool. AND it doesn't have to be a retirement type of send off or anything...just change the pace a little.
face it...it seems like some of you laugh at her melodramatics but that's what she does best and that's what drew ME into her 25 years ago.

I'm too with Livia about really enjoying the Enchanted shows...Hearing "Garbo" was a treat. I will
also agree that that same show's "Landslide" was a little dare I say it "lame":(
HOWEVER, lo and behold, when Stevie did it on the Timespace Tour, (Is that the one she called
Whole Lotta Trouble?), the entire crowd was reduced to a mass of mushy tears...When she was
done, everyone around me, perfect strangers, started hugging each other...My mother who is

I would also love to hear Stevie & Lindsey do Sorcerer live as well, and oh man, if they did Crystal together I could just flat-out die right then and there!!
Anyone remember back in 1990 (I think) when David Bowie toured and set up an 800 number where people could call in requests and the most requested ones were then performed for the tour? Also, the Stones did this in 1997, but it was just for folks on the internet to pick one song for the night. In Dallas, everyone voted for Star****er AND THEY DID IT LIVE AND IT WAS GREAT!!!

i do love that part too. her voice gets eerily deep. that whole part after "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii've changed baby.....or at least i'm TRYing to change."
then when she does that "ooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh" and drags the mic back a little, she almost loses her step. watch it.
there's also something about the Chicago 1986 (Cloaks and Daggers cd) performance that gets me. there's a part at the ending where it gets real quiet and then you hear her off mic bantering something and she's coming back to the mic that leads into "where is my beast baby, i need him..."
i loved that **** she used to do.

I think she needs to do something from Other Side of the Mirror. I mean the album did pretty well in sales and hit #10 (rock a little hit #12). Rooms on Fire was an international hit. Whole Lotta Trouble also did very well as a single and i think it would be awesome if she did ANYTHING from this album. Obviously you kno what I would like her to do from that album ;)
Ooh My Love, Alice, and Long Way to Go are the 3 i would want her to do most!

Long way to go would be cool. I like the music in that
